The change we’ve been seeking for America’s criminal (in)justice system is coming to a judge’s bench near you. That change is Black women. On today’s episode we’ve got a special conversation with Judge Shamieka Rhinehart of North Carolina’s 14th Judicial District. Judge Rhinehart breaks down how important Black women are to the American legal system and how crucial it is to see the face behind each case that comes before her. Eboni and Dustin discuss the Black women who are moving and shaking in law including Suzette Malveaux, who could become the first Black woman appointed to the 10th Circuit Federal Court; Bruce Beach, the Black-owned beach that is being returned to its rightful owners 100 years after being stolen by the state; and the tragic and angering death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, not far from where George Floyd was murdered. Eboni and Dustin also dig into what they’re loving about Virginia - ( It’s the 16th state to legalize recreational cannabis!) and what they hate about Virginia (The vicious VA police officer who pepper sprayed and assaulted 2nd lieutenant Caron Nazario after taunting him for being afraid); and Utah’s new bill mandating that biological fathers pay up for pregnancy costs. Eboni also pays a beautiful tribute to Midwin Charles one of the great Black legal minds of a generation. Follow Eboni K. Williams on IG or TW, and Dustin Ross on IG or TW  Holding Court with Eboni K. Loved all 3 of the casual chats I had with this episode's guests. Each taught me things and each were honest, thoughtful and vulnerable exchanges that I thoroughly enjoyed. John Donvan is a very respected and experiences journalist who has reported mostly for ABC news from all over the world. He has won 2 emmys, done conflict reporting and all the rest as well. He is also the best debate moderator in the country. If you haven't checked out Intelligence Squared Debates then do it now.  Midwin Charles is a very accomplished lawyer and legal commentator who I wanted to get to know a little better in hopes of having her on the show more regularly for all of thoughtful takes on the most important issues we talk about her. Follow her on Twitter Bill Boyle is a listener who like many others has become a trusted friend and amazing supporter. I we talk and text quite a but and I love to get this educated and intelligent take on pretty much everything. I don't always agree with Bill but I do most of the listening when we talk. He has been a great source of thought for me over the years and I know you love when he's on. Follow him on twitter    Please consider a paid subscription to the show
