Honus Wagner has the most in MLB history with five.September 2, 1990, Dave Stieb, who had lost three no-hit bids with one out to go in the previous two seasons, finally pitched one as the Toronto Blue Jays beat Cleveland 3-0. It was the record ninth no-hitter of the 1990 season and the only one in Blue Jays history.September2, 1996, Mike “Gator” Greenwell set a major league record by driving in all nine Boston runs, the final one on a 10th-inning single to give the Red Sox a 9-8 victory over Seattle.September 2, 1999, Cal Ripken hit his 400th career home run joining an exclusive circle of sluggers. Ripken connected off right-hander Rolando Arrojo in the third inning of the Baltimore Orioles' game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.September 2, 2003 Eric Gagne set a major league single season record with his 55th consecutive save in Los Angeles's 4-1 victory over Houston. When added to the eight consecutive saves he made at the end of the 2002 season, Gagne had sixty-three consecutive saves, a new Major League record.

A correction from Jesse: The rainout in Baltimore was on September 29, 1999, bumping Mike Mussina's last start of that season, not his final start as an Oriole, which would be the following year. Mussina and Scott Kamieniecki combined to shut out the Yankees in the opener of the following day's doubleheader.Everything else in this episode is, of course, completely factual and based in reality, including the invitation to Shaquille O'Neal to come on the show and talk soda and the Yankees' former use of a bullpen Cadillac. Author John Vampatella joins us to talk about his new book, The Forgotten Game, which chronicles Game 5 of the 2004 ALCS. Sandwiched between Big Papi's 12th inning walk to keep the Red Sox in the Series and the infamous Bloody Sock Game, Game 5 was a marathon with two Hall of Fame pitchers on the mound (Mussina v Martinez). John was a blast to talk to about 80's, 90's & 2000's MLB. Ofcourse there's a Lars Nootbaar update, golf & baseball & which team has suffered the most ruptured um, man nether-regions? And why is anybody keeping track? Plus John sticks around for a round of Wax Pack Heroes. The evidence for genetic drivers in kidney diseases is substantial, but much larger data sets will be needed to untangle the complex interactions that lead to kidney injury. Kurt Mussina, President of Frenova Renal Research, talks about Frenova's efforts to develop the largest renal-focused genomic registry in the world. Containing genetic sequencing data from chronic kidney disease patients around the globe, data from the registry will be used by researchers to improve understanding of kidney disease.

Monday, December 28: A Special Holiday Message from Diana Mussina by BarnBurner Radio Network
Today went...a little off the rails. We started out by discussing the Marcus Peters/Jarvis Landry video. Is there anything more that needs to be said? Should anything happen? At some point in Hour 1, our friend Mark Mussina finally joined us. He has a really wonderful new book "A Mile In Her Shoes" out now. We talked about that-why did he want to write a novel about high school girls' track and field? We made an effort at a #DefinitivePowerRankings of "Actually Good Christmas Songs" but the list was too broad. And we had a very random surprise mystery guest check in-actor/comedian Pauly Shore. At the bottom of Hour 2, Terps legend Len Elmore joined us to discuss his work with the Knight Commission, who recommend FBS football programs break away from the NCAA. What would that mean? What do we need to know about the Alston Case in front of the Supreme Court? And is playing sports right now worth the risk? And we wrapped the show with our weekly visit with "The Edge" from Big Fat Winners trying to help us make some money betting football this weekend.

To be an impresario takes guts. You are a fan sometimes rapid fan and need to find a way to turn a profit. In today's touring circuit it's Tom Waits warmed over covered in corporate sponsors in a sea of digital music that has been forces into peoples ears do the last two decades. My guest today was a chance taker before full interconnection. He came up when college universities had resources to fund the arts and the brainchild of the touring circuit began. My guest is a passionate music lover. He leans Rock and rolls with reggae and Soul to sooth the inner angst of relationships young and old. Springsteen, Mussina, Zappa, Leon Russell, Willie Nelson John McLaughlin, Kenny Gradney. Some were Jersey natives and others were barnstorming the country when hotbeds of regional radio and regional music created an elasticity within people ears. Broader palates in Lawerenceville, and Kean College and Caldwell College. My guest saw opportunity and inner faith and wisdom and a young age and invested in the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ. A smut house by day in the buccholic city the same as the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, and The Stanley Theatre and the old Uptown Theatre in Chicago. These vaudeville houses had a warm cozy feel where mushroom addled audiences listened to my guest introduce Jorma Kaukonen, little feat, hot tuna, the burrito brothers Vassar Clements, Billy Cobham and Steve Miller. In the early eighties my guest became the go to impresario and the newly Christened Brendan Byrne Arena where huge bombs from Phil Lesh tested the structural integrity of a building that had great acoustics prior and after MIDI- Technology. As I continue to wade deeper into how real music is made I have stumbled across cats who were masters of all trades and helped the music grow both sonically and substantively. By this I mean they had the chops to play across the entire musical spectrum, they had gods gifts of love to feel the music. To swing from Rock to Bach to Soul. My guest is one of the cats with huge chops and great feel. Except my guest today is different in that his trades expand far beyond the keyboards. He is one of the most prolific arrangers of strings, of horns of voices. He was one of the early pioneers of The Arp Synthesizer and played those emblematic funky fender Rhodes on so many iconic albums. Coming from the Midwest my guest came to Southern California after crusading on Campus for Christ and became the go to studio keyboardist for any artist no matter how accomplished. Katy Lied, I was half way crucified, on the other side with The Four Tops or knowing a Woman's Work is never done with Edie Sands. He helped create We Are The World with compadre Quincy Jones when this host was just 7 years old. His melodic groove was so conducive to music it stretched from Christian Rock to Boz Scaggs to Loggins and Mussina or driving It was during this time as an in demand studio musician that he joined the stealth Christian label Myrrh and made several albums that features a stormy mix of ballads and blues with David Kemper galloping in on a White Horse. These albums had a rhythm heritage of Ed Greene and Wilton Felder so the grooves were pulsating with funk and soul holding it down while the messages of a inclusivity was being promoted. My guest was busy making music history and trying to balance the gross excesses of human desire. Desires that our creator could never give us. That's not life. Life is taking your gifts and cultivating them and ultimately actualizing them which is what this host is doing right now. The Orioles lost and it was weird and it was a bummer. But it was nowhere near as stupid as what we saw from the Rangers against the Padres last night. Holy hell does baseball ever prove how childish and embarrassing the sport is capable of being at times. At the bottom of Hour 1, ESPN & Blue Jays play by play voice Dan Shulman joined us to discuss the Fernando Tatis "controversy," the weird nature of the Blue Jays' season, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s struggles and more. Early in Hour 2, our old friend Mark Mussina joined the show to discuss the Tatis thing but far more importantly to debate whether "Africa" or "Rosanna" was the greater Toto song. We do the important stuff on this show. And at the bottom of Hour 2, FOX Sports analyst/former Broncos Super Bowl champ Mark Schlereth joined us to discuss why the Ravens have the best defense in the AFC and his thoughts on Dez Bryant (and the Antonio Brown conversation not going away).
Howie is joined by, former broadcast partner, Hockey Hall of Famer Sal Mussina to take a walk down memory lane and look at the current state of the game in 2020.

You already know everything you need to know about him.) Indeed, Pesach and Scott offer new ways of looking at Halladay, Mariano, Edgar, Mussina, and Lee that demonstrate why they made it in. Also: Josh Hader's amazing and weird pitching, and why Christian Yelich might be even better than you thought.

Former Yankees and Orioles pitcher Mike Mussina enters the Baseball Hall of Fame next weekend. This week Sweeny sits down with Mussina in a special two-part look at his career and outlook on the game. Here is part one of “30 With Murti” with Mike Mussina.
Derek Jeter will highlight the Hall of Fame Class of 2020, but he has obvious deep ties to members of this years class as well. In this episode of “30 With Murti,” WFAN's Sweeny Murti talks to the former Yankees captain about his long career playing with Mariano Rivera, the ups and downs of the early part of their journey and their rise to the championship years. Jeter, now the CEO of the Miami Marlins, also talks about other members of this year’s Hall of Fame class. On Mike Mussina: "Moose was a great teammate because Moose went out, did his job, did his job very well. ... You didn’t have to sit and wonder if he was going to be prepared to do his job.” On Roy Halladay: "Roy Halladay was by far the toughest pitcher for me to face. I just couldn’t figure him out.” On Edgar Martinez: “I would get on Mo. ... He just owned Mo.” And on his own Hall of Fame chances next year: “I try not to think a lot about it. I mean, I have my hands full down here in Miami right now.”

:17 - Since the weekend’s massive snowfall, the side streets (and even some main streets) in Akron appear to be untouched by snow plows. Mayor Dan Horrigan joined the show to explain what is happening, and has said he wants the streets to be cleared before the temperatures drop again. 6:08 - The University of Notre Dame, the Catholic college in South Bend, Indiana, has decided to cover up some Christopher Columbus murals due to protests from social activists. The morning show panel understands the sensitivity of this measure, but stress not to erase history, which isn’t always kind. 16:28 - The Baseball Hall of Fame announced its newest inductees to Cooperstown: Mariano Rivera, Roy Halladay, Mike Mussina, and Edgar Martinez. Ray and Tony agree with Rivera and Halladay, but question Mussina and Martinez, who statistically never dominated their respective eras. What about Al Oliver? Tommy John? Jim Kaat? 24:56 - Have you tried online dating, either using a website or an app like Tinder or Bumble? Some single folks are finding out the online dating may not be all sunshine and roses, and the old fashioned way of meeting on the town or through friends can be more successful.
Rivera, Martinez, Halladay y Mussina al salón de la fama. Machado y Harper aun sin firmar. Realmuto posiblemente a los Dodgers. El Mundo de las Grandes Ligas con Kevin Cabral y Felix DeJesus.

Nothing has happened with the Yankees, or with pretty much anyone else in baseball, over the holidays, but while there is not a lot of new ground to cover, there is the delight of welcoming Steven Goldman to not just a segment, but a full episode of Locked On Yankees. The host of The Infinite Inning podcast, formerly of The Pinstriped Bible and Baseball Prospectus, Goldman shares some thoughts about the Yankees' third base situation, weighing the possibilities of Miguel Andujar, Mike Moustakas, and other options for New York at the hot corner. Then, a topic that Yankees fans surely don't want to think about, but should: what if Aaron Judge regresses after his Rookie of the Year campaign? Finally, but not for the last time, it's time to talk about Mike Mussina's case for the Hall of Fame. Does Jack Morris' upcoming induction change anything? Is it fair to hold intangibles against a pitcher whose numbers point rather strongly toward Cooperstown? Is it hypocritical to argue against Mussina based on subjective criteria, but not be swayed by similar arguments in favor of a candidate like Omar Vizquel? It's a longer than usual episode, but well worth the price of admission. Former Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina pitched eight shutouts throughout his eight-year career in New York. MLB.com Richard Justice shares why Mussina has the credentials to find his place in history.
Inside this edition of 201CWithout a Curse,201D Alex reins in the New Year by discussing the latest news surrounding the Red Sox. Numerous outlets are reporting the Red Sox are not going to bid on star Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka2019s services. Though it would2019ve been surprising if the Red Sox signed Tanaka, it2019s relatively surprising that the Red Sox are seemingly out of the sweepstakes this early. The Red Sox, as an organization, almost always negotiate with every major free agent. Except, evidently, Tanaka. Stephen Drew remains unsigned, as many teams are reluctant to part with the first round draft pick it would take to sign him. Alex says draft picks have become overvalued in baseball, as it2019s not a guarantee that a first round pick will be as good of a major league player as Drew is. The Red Sox have one of the best farm systems in baseball, as evidenced by John Sickel2019s prospect ratings last season. They2019ve signed numerous free agents, and surrendered several draft picks over the years. The Red Sox are proof that it2019s possible to build an elite farm system even while surrendering picks. Former Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon participated in a radio interview with WEEI last week, in which he said chemistry was the main reason the Red Sox won last season. Alex says Papelbon is one of many people who continually sell last year2019s team short. They won because of talent, not an intangible factor like team chemistry or character. In the 201CAround the League201D segment, Alex analyzes how the Phillies2019 new 25-year, $2.5 billion television contract will effect their spending and the competitive balance of baseball. Though Hall of Fame voting results haven2019t been released yet, many sportswriters have published their ballots. It2019s clear that a significant percentage of voters opted to vote for Jack Morris and not Mike Mussina. There2019s little argument for selecting Morris over Mussina, especially when one looks at the numbers. Email Alex at areimer@bu.edu, and follow him on Twitter @AlexReimer1.
