Welcome to Episode 1510 on another episode of “On The Road Edition”, hosted by Stevie Kim. Today we are bringing you a throwback (the first of several to come) to Stevie's conversation series “Wonderful Women in Wine” recorded on instalive during the pandemic. In this episode Stevie sits down with Dorli Muhr. More about today's guest Dorli Muhr – who discovered her enthusiasm for wine during university studies training as an interpreter (French & Spanish) – founded an agency for marketing and PR work in 1991 called Wine&Partners and developed a highly specialised business for communications involving wine, gourmet products and the culinary world. The desire to have her own wine production – which burned in the blood of farmers' daughter Dorli – led ultimately to her replanting the fallow parcels on the Spitzerberg in 1995. Together with her then-husband Dirk van der Niepoort, Dorli Muhr recommenced wine production in 2002. Seeking perfection and maximum finesse, she began to acquire other parcels of vines to complement the family patch, so that the Weingut Muhr-van der Niepoort grew continually each year, in both quantity and quality. Ten years after Muhr and Niepoort ended their marriage, they finally concluded their business relationship. Dorli Muhr took over Dirk Niepoort's holdings, and is carrying on with the estate under her name alone. At the same time, she was able to acquire a small, old house in Prellenkirchen and move her business headquarters there. Together with her daughter Anna, she is returning to the same village where Anna's great-grandmother spent her childhood and teenage years. Connect: Website: https://dorlimuhr.at/ More about the host Stevie Kim: Stevie Kim hosts Clubhouse sessions each week (visit Italian Wine Club & Wine Business on Clubhouse), these recorded sessions are then released on the podcast to immortalize them! She often also joins Professor Scienza in his shows to lend a hand keeping our Professor in check! You can also find her taking a hit for the team when she goes “On the Road”, all over the Italian countryside, visiting wineries and interviewing producers, enjoying their best food and wine – all in the name of bringing us great Pods! Working in the public space creates an interesting dichotomy for an artist. It is both a highly personal relationship to an audience and the wall itself, but the brief moment in time in which a street artist or muralist is in the location while they paint can create a separation from the artwork. In many cases, you leave just as the town begins to embrace your art. For Danish painter, Jacoba Niepoort, an artist who literally creates some of the most intimate works in the public space we have ever seen, there is both a tenderness and strength in how she approaches a wall. And, there is something about materiality, the surfaces she works on, that is a unique. Creating murals and works on paper, Jacoba is working within time with surfaces that can be both enduring and fragile. A wall could crumble or the weather could wear down the colors. Working on paper, the art may fade with time. We love that sort of balance, and so does Jacoba. In this episode of the Radio Juxtapoz podcast, we speak with Jacoba in the middle of painting a mural at Nuart Aberdeen, a wall that proved difficult with the changing weather patterns. She spoke to us about how the pandemic changed her practice, how she always wanted to change the world and pivoted to a new career and how she paints the bold poses of woman in unison. The Radio Juxtapoz podcast is hosted by FIFTH WALL TV's Doug Gillen and Juxtapoz editor, Evan Pricco. Episode 090 was recorded on June 8, 2022 in Aberdeen, Scotland for the Nuart Festival. As a worldwide traveling parent, sometimes I get a lot of strange or weird looks when traveling with my daughter. Especially when I am visiting more luxury locations. I share about my struggles and how I overcome those struggles. We traveled to the Duoro Valley and stayed at the "Wine Barrel Hotel" at Quinta Da Pacheca https://quintadapacheca.com/ (https://quintadapacheca.com) The wine I am highlighting is a 2018 White Blend from the Duoro Valley from the producer, Niepoort. The White Dialogue 2019 is a good example of the Niepoort profile, austere and very mineral. A fresh white, with herbaceous and citrus notes on the nose, young but showing all its aging potential, very fine and elegant, with an electric aftertaste that makes you want to repeat. Dirk van der Niepoort is one of the most iconic figures in port wine production today. In this interview with Heine Johansen, he talks about how his father did not support him in starting what became the table wine revolution of the Douro valley, about the traditions of port wine production and how he differs from other producers in the area. He explains some of the qualities of the different facing vineyards and also a bit about some of his other projects: riesling in Mosel and tea production! It is also interesting to hear him talk about what he thinks about the climate changes in Europe and how it affects the Douro. Words used: A pipe - English measure for a barrel between 350 and 600 litres. Now the average port wine pipe is 550 litres. Lagares - wide, shallow barrels for foot threadingCamelia Sinensis - the tea plant Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

During my recent trip to Douro with the Douro Boys Auction, we also took the time to visit each of the members. Arriving at Niepoort after a great visit we had the chance to do a delightful and precise masterclass tasting of port wines with Dirk Niepoort and Nick Delaforce - we tasted the 2015 vintage, the 2005 vintage, 2003 vintage, 1982 vintage (bottled in 1984) and the 1970 vintage - on top we had the opportunity to taste and discover the Bioma 2017 which is definitely a rich, fresh and mind-blowing port, so much that it would be hard to choose between the 2017 vintage port and Bioma 2017 vintage https://www.creativefabien.com/tasting-old-port-wines-with-dirk-niepoort-and-nick-delaforce/

Luis Seabra is the proprietor and winemaker at Luis Seabra Vinhos, producing dry wines from the Douro Valley and the Vinho Verde regions of Portugal. Luis discusses his beginnings working as a plant specialist at an university, his work doing vineyard trials for the Portuguese government, the nine years that he made dry wines at the house of Niepoort, and on to the founding of his own winery. Over the course of the interview Luis takes up all kinds of topics relating to Portuguese wine, such as vine material, grape varieties, the soil types in different areas, historical wine blending practices, and the winemaking norms in differnet parts of the country, as well as how those have changed over time. He explains the evolution in his own thinking concerning both winemaking and vineyard practices. Luis clearly illustrates what he means by contrasting his own thoughts and techniques with the dominant thinking in the surrounding area. Those wanting a deep dive into topics like whole cluster, skin maceration, pressing, and élevage, will find Luis a capable guide. He also discusses the different character of recent vintages for his own wines. This episode is sponsored by: NY Drinks NY Grand Tasting in Manhattan Vknow Wine App La Tablée New York

This week on In the Drink, Dorli Muhr will discuss her wines at Muhr-van der Niepoort and the state of the Austrian wine industry. She will also discuss Orange wines. Carnuntum is a lesser-known Austrian wine region, east of Vienna, and this is where the Muhr-van der Niepoort winery is based. Dorli resuscitated her family vineyards here, taking advantage of the Spitzerberg’s distinctive terroir, together with the old Blaufränkisch vines and their tiny yields. The result are wines that reflect the tastes of the wine producers themselves: elegant and refined, with structure, length and plenty of floral freshness. Also in the studio is Stetson Robbins of Blue Danube Wine, which is collaborating with Anfora to produce the event series Week of Orange Wine.
