In between a harsh word and hollow points we need a stepping stone of some kind; training or a tool for situations which lethal force isn't called for. Mike and Jim talk advantages and disadvantages of OC Spray, Taser, and other less lethal tools. Like what we're doing? Head over to Patreon and give us a buck for each new episode. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating a deadly-officer involved shooting Thursday afternoon on Interstate 65 in South Nashville. The shooting happened around 2 p.m. on I-65 between Harding Place and Old Hickory Boulevard. Metro Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron said a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper responded to a man sitting on a guardrail on the side of the interstate and offered him a ride home. The 37-year-old man, later identified as Landon Eastep, pushed away from the THP trooper and was observed to be armed with the box cutter. An off-duty Mt. Juliet Police officer driving by the scene stopped to help and talk to Eastep.
The killing of Daunte Wright, 20, is at least the third high-profile death of a Black man during a police encounter in the Minneapolis area since 2016, after the shooting of Philando Castile in Falcon Heights in 2016 and the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last year.Wright's death and the release of video from the officer's body camera, have triggered raw emotion in Brooklyn Center, just 10 miles from where the trial of Derek Chauvin -- the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing Floyd last year -- is taking place. The city's police chief has said the officer who shot Wright -- identified by other authorities as Kim Potter -- appeared to mistake her gun for her Taser and is on administrative leave.

Hey-o friendos! Is this it? Is it the end for our party or their rivals? Maybe! ... but... maybe not?
We may never know whether Cuba attacked American diplomats with microwave weapons—but we do know similar devices exist. The US Department of Defense's Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, along with a host of private arms companies, has spent decades testing everything from long-range wireless Taser bullets to sonic guns that can disable a car engine from 150 feet away.

www.communitysolutionsmn.com- When we are talking about non-partisan races, we usually think about city councils, county commissions, and school boards. We often forget about the offices of sheriff, county attorney, and soil and water conservation boards. These seats are also important, because they wield great power. Yet, as little attention as we give city, county, and school elections, these races get even less. In this episode we interview Stacy Braun, who is running for Wright County Sheriff. We discuss what all is involved in running a sheriff's department (you may be surprised), and what are the biggest issues for the sheriff's department in Wright County. Most cities in Wright County don't have local police departments, so the sheriff's department is all that more vital. He talks about personal responsibility, and being innocent until proven guilty. The primary is on August 14th, 2018. Make sure you do your due diligence and vote all the way down the ticket. These races are no less important. In the Local Lowdown, we discuss Golden Valley's attempts to to create a city-wide gun safety program. They want to follow in the footsteps of St. Louis Park and Excelsior. They would like to authorize putting their Human Rights commission on this (that's why it's imperative for you to get on local advisory commissions, including the human rights commission), but not everyone on the council agrees. It's currently 3-2, and Mayor Shep Harris is using the power of the local press to put pressure on bringing the rest of his city council into line. Things are getting a little heated down in Golden Valley. You can hear the council clips here: 6/12/18- about 1hour 02 minutes in 7/10/18- about 1 hour and 53 minutes in 7/17/18- at 1:45:30 Also in the Local Lowdown, Democrat candidates like Keith Ellison (running for MN Attorney General) and Margaret Anderson Kelliher (Congressional District 5) are busy gathering a lot of endorsements. The strange thing is the number of local office holders that are stepping up and putting their name on that list. I thought that that city, county, and school board offices were "nonpartisan"? Yeah... not so much. Unfortunately, many democrats at the local level tend to put party first. Have you checked out our Spotify playlist? News Item: A new cyber-threat warning issued by the United States National Cyber-Alert System in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security. Unspecified vulnerability in Medtronic Paradigm wireless insulin pump 512, 522, 712, and 722 allows remote attackers to modify the delivery of an insulin bolus dose and cause a denial of service (adverse human health effects) via unspecified vectors involving wireless communications and knowledge of the device's serial number, as demonstrated by Jerome Radcliffe at the Black Hat USA conference in August 2011. NOTE: the vendor has disputed the severity of this issue, saying "we believe the risk of deliberate, malicious, or unauthorized manipulation of medical devices is extremely low... we strongly believe it would be extremely difficult for a third-party to wirelessly tamper with your insulin pump... you would be able to detect tones on the insulin pump that weren't intentionally programmed and could intervene accordingly." Special thanks go to Randal L. Schwartz for emailing me this news item. (Randal is a widely known author of programming books and articles. He is co-host of FLOSS Weekly, and has been a guest on The Future And You six times in the last five years.)
