Mike encourages us to pay attention, match children's physical actions and use fewer words. He has found this approach to be especially supportive of children who tend to be very quiet and those who are loud and boisterous. It might require us to slow down a little, which can feel hard in the midst of a busy day. Ross reminds us that it's OK because children are not volcano birds.

Text: Prov 21:23-24 ESV23 Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.24 “Scoffer” is the name of the arrogant, haughty man who acts with arrogant pride.-Prov 21:23-24 ESVLESS TALK, LESS TROUBLEThere is great danger of unrestrained speech. Some people talk too much, to their own detriment. If Solomon recognized this in an era without internet, how much more today. In an era where every word can be recorded, broadcast, and criticized, Solomon's counsel is as appropriate today as when he gave it. He who guards his mouth and his tongue spares himself a lot of trouble. A life indulged in empty talk, gossip, slander, and cursing have ruined many who would have stayed out of trouble if they had kept their mouths shut. “Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.”[Prov 17:28] Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.[A, Lincoln]This is not easy as the tongue is difficult to control. The apostle James writes, "If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man" (Jas 3:2). He describes the tongue as a "a small member, yet it boasts of great things" (Jas 3:5), "a fire, a world of unrighteousness" (James 3:6), and "a restless evil" (James 3:8). Basically, these people who talk so much are filled with pride. “Scoffer” is the name of the arrogant, haughty man who acts with arrogant pride. [v.24] Asaph describes wicked men as scoffers who "set their mouths against the heavens" (Psa 73:9). These people have a high opinion of themselves, presuming themselves more important than others, including God. God won't be mocked. “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”[Prov 16:18]. Nimrod led the world to build a tower to contest God in their arrogance, but God judge them by confusing and dispersing them. King Nebuchadnezzar and Herod did the same but God brought them to humiliation.-------------------------Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

Send us a textDavid Griffith takes us on a fascinating journey through his multi-faceted career, revealing timeless leadership principles that transcend industries and decades. Starting as IBM's top salesman in the late 1970s, Griffith rose through corporate ranks before pivoting to lead a material handling company and later transforming a historic nonprofit addressing poverty in Philadelphia. What stands out in Griffith's approach is his refreshing humility and focus on developing others. "My goal was always to try and be the dumbest guy in an organization," he explains, highlighting his belief that great leaders are primarily "curators of talent" who assemble exceptional teams and give them space to excel. This philosophy proved particularly valuable during the 2008 financial crisis when his implementation of employee ownership through an ESOP created a culture where workers volunteered for reduced hours rather than seeing colleagues laid off.Griffith's secret weapon throughout his career has been genuinely listening—to customers, employees, and the marketplace. His practical advice on conducting "muddy boots" management by getting into the field and asking simple questions ("How are we doing?" and "What can we do better?") demonstrates how leaders can stay connected to reality. This approach led to breakthrough moments, like when he transformed a customer relationship by noticing bent forklift forks and connecting them to workers' compensation issues, solving a pain point his competitors had missed entirely. The conversation serves as both business history and masterclass in adaptability. As Griffith notes, "Those who are closest to the customer will win," a principle that remains true despite technological revolutions and market shifts. For leaders navigating today's complex challenges, his example of continuous learning, strategic foresight, and people-centered management offers a timeless blueprint for sustainable success. In 1934, Upton Sinclair ran for governor of California. During the campaign, he wrote a book, in the past tense, talking about all he accomplished as governor. The problem? He got crushed in the election bid. His talk and hype outpaced the work he needed to do to actually win the race. Like Sinclair, many of us can get ahead of ourselves with talk—about what we have or hope to accomplish. In the process, our hype game outpaces our actual accomplishments. In this episode, we'll talk about practical ways to make war with ego, or pride, which starts with the words we use. Who do we blame when things go wrong? Who do we give credit to when things go right? How does seeing ourselves as a student help us tame the beast of overgrown pride? More Talk, Less Action Could Be Good for Credit Markets

Our Head of Corporate Credit Research lists realistic scenarios for why credit could outperform expectations in 2025, despite some risks posed by policy changes from the incoming administration.----- Transcript -----Welcome to Thoughts on the Market. I'm Andrew Sheets, head of Corporate Credit Research at Morgan Stanley. Today I'll be discussing realistic scenarios where things could be better than we expect. It's Friday December 20th at 2pm in London.Credit is an asset class that always faces more limited upside, and the low starting point for spreads as we enter 2025 further limits potential gains. Nevertheless, there are still a number of ways where this market could do better than expected, with spreads tighter than expected, into next year.An obvious place to start is U.S. policy. Morgan Stanley's public policy strategy team thinks the incoming administration will be a story of “fast announcement, slow implementation”, with the growth and inflation impact of tariffs and immigration falling more in 2026 (rather than say earlier). And so if one looks at Morgan Stanley's forecasts, our growth numbers for 2025 are good, our 2026 numbers are weaker. The bull case could be that we see more talk but less ultimate action. Scenarios where tariffs are more of a negotiating tool than a sustained policy would likely mean less change to the current (credit friendly) status quo, and also increase the likelihood that the Federal Reserve will be able to lower interest rates even as growth holds up. Rate cuts with good growth is a rare occurrence, but when you do get it, it can be extremely good. If one thinks of the mid-1990s, another time where we had this combination, credit spreads were even tighter than current levels. Another path to the bull case is better funding conditions in the market. Some loosening of bank capital requirements or stronger demand for collateralized loan obligations could both flow through to tighter spreads for the assets that these fund, especially things like leveraged loans. If we think back to periods where credit spreads were tighter than today, easier funding was often a part of the story. Now, a more aggressive phase of corporate activity could be a risk to credit, but M&A can also be a positive event, especially on a name by name basis. If merger and acquisition activity becomes a story of, say, larger companies buying smaller ones, that could mean that weaker, high yield credits get absorbed by larger, stronger, investment grade balance sheets. And so for those high yield bonds or loans, this can be an outstanding outcome. Another way things could be better than expected for credit is that growth in Europe and China is better than expected. In speaking with investors over the last few weeks, I think it's safe to say that expectations for both regions are pretty low. And so if things are better than these low expectations, spreads, especially in Europe, which are not as tight as those in the U.S., could go tighter. But the most powerful form of the credit bull case might be the simplest. Morgan Stanley expects the Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, and the European Central Bank to all lower interest rates much more than markets expect next year, even as, for the most part, growth in 2025 holds up. Due in a large part to those expected rate cuts, we also think the yields fall more than expected. If that's right, credit could quietly have an outstanding year for total return, which is boosted as yields fall. Indeed, on our forecast, U.S. investment grade credit, a relatively sleepy asset class, would see a total return of roughly 10%, higher than our expected total return for the mighty S&P 500. Not all credit investors care about total return. But for those that do, that outcome could feel very bullish. Thanks for listening. If you enjoy the show, leave us a review wherever you listen, and share Thoughts on the Market with a friend or colleague today.

God's Word for Today24 Oct, 202412 Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.13 Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.- Prov 11:12-13 ESV TALK LESS, LISTEN MOREThe act of belittling others is a foolish idea. ‘Belittling' implies contempt or a sneering form of spite. A derogatory attitude towards other people causes friction and hard feelings. A good response is to remain silent instead of deriding others. ‘Whoever restrains his lips is prudent.'[Prov 10:19] “Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.”[Prov 29:20] A hasty word is the result of poor listening attitude. We should develop an attitude of loving listening. The purpose is to understand and minister the other person in love. As James says, “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”[Jas 1:19,20] God gives us one mouth to speak less and two ears to listen more. Moreover, slandering others is a show of how wicked a person's heart is. A slanderer couldn't keep the secrets of others he knows. Instead, he would weaponize these secrets to destroy them. He is not trustworthy and unloving. The godly, however, is motivated by love. He is dependable not disparage others and violate their trust. He will keep the sensitive information he knows realizing that spreading it would not be edifying. Their heart is pure so that their tongue is kept in check. As Peter says, “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins” This is not condoning the sin but dealing it wisely in love, seeking for the person's best welfare.Let's reflect for a moment. Have you developed the art of loving listening? Have we been listening more and talking less toward our kids and colleagues? Indeed, silence is golden. It's wise oftentimes to say nothing. Even the fish is safe when she keeps her mouth shut. More words, more mistakes; less words, less mistakes. There is wisdom in silence. Messages from the Universe with Laurie Wondra

Edward Hersey Richards wrote the following poem:  A wise old owl lived in an oak the more he saw the less he spoke. The less he spoke the more he heard now wasn't he a wise old bird. Are you like that wise old bird, listening more and speaking less?   Sometimes it feels as if we've become a society of answers - We have this need to KNOW, or to HAVE all the answers.  In the age of information, we become unable to just be without knowing, and we've grown an expectation for immediate response.  The universe is always listening to us and answering.  We are always in conversation with the energy of the universe.  It is responding to our questions, our wishes our dreams. There is no void in the universe.  In conversation some people are uncomfortable with silences and may feel the need to fill in with words.  Fill the space. But we forget that the universe is space, and the universe also can fill in that place of silence and void.  What if we talk less and listen more?Support the showThanks for listening - For questions or comments email Laurie at Laurie@yourlifecore.comInstagram @yourlifecore or Twitter @yourlifecore Facebook https://www.facebook.com/YourLifecoreWebsite www.yourlifecore.com

We are pleased to share with you a very unique and special COBT episode that provides a glimpse into America's proud energy past and highlights some of the great life lessons the American West and the oil patch can impart. Today we had the great pleasure of visiting with Hank True and Dave True of the True Companies. The True family is celebrating the 75th anniversary of True Companies, which was founded by Dave and Hank's father, Dave True, Jr. in 1948. True Companies includes the following businesses: True Oil, True Drilling, True Ranches, Toolpushers Supply Company, Black Hills Trucking, Measurement Services LLC, Bridger Pipeline LLC, Eighty-Eight Oil LLC, Equitable Oil Purchasing Company, Hilltop Bank, Flowstate, and Brick and Bond, in addition to numerous other ranches and properties. The 75th anniversary celebrations are being held in Houston, Oklahoma City, and the Company's headquarters city of Casper, Wyoming. The significance of the Company to the state of Wyoming and to energy can clearly be seen in the description of the Company's anniversary from this summer's Congressional Record, linked here.   You'll hear many interesting points in our discussion. True Companies is an extremely large and complex organization, with approximately 1,150 employees in eleven states. Their business includes several aspects of energy including pipelines, oil and gas, oilfield services, technology, as well as agriculture and banking. What drew us to the Trues was not just the 75th anniversary but their reputation for leadership, involvement in the community, and their extensive and rich history. Large family-owned companies are becoming more rare in today's modern world and it is refreshing to see the mindset of a private enterprise as they face challenges and take advantage of opportunities. Hank and Dave's brotherhood/partnership is fascinating to watch as they reflect on the love and respect they have for their parents, how their parents raised them, lessons from summers spent in a modest cabin, and as they share wisdom learned from now three generations of an energy company and the ruggedness and toughness that was instilled in them. Their family's story is a reminder of the American dream, building something from nothing, and of the energy industry's grit and determination. It was a fantastic conversation and we are most honored the True brothers would share their reflections with us.   Mike Bradley kicked us off by sharing concern over global markets as they remain remarkably calm despite the Israeli-Hamas war. He highlighted that 10-year bond yields have surged from Friday's close of 4.6% due to strong retail sales stats and are pushing towards trading highs of 4.9%. While bond traders expect the FED will pause rate hikes at the upcoming November 1st FOMC meeting, hotter than expected economic stats could change their calculus. He noted WTI crude oil prices have seen a modest increase over the past five trading days, reaching around $87/bbl., and that crude oil price volatility seems to be influenced weekly by demand or supply concerns, with this week's supply concerns dominating including Cushing and SPR crude oil storage levels. He flagged the Biden Administration surprised the market by announcing an easing of Venezuelan oil sanctions and further noted crude oil traders are much more concerned with what direction the Biden Administration might take on Iranian crude oil sanctions. He wrapped by highlighting Oil Services Q3 reporting begins this week with Liberty Energy and Schlumberger reporting this week. Jeff Tillery also joined and added his perspective and questions in our discussion.   We were delighted and very thankful to visit with Hank and Dave. As we shared at the end, everyone we've come across that knows the True family holds them in high re
