The electoral commission of Namibia has extended voting in areas where challenges persisted on election day. The announcement follows concerns raised by political parties, that party agents may continue to experience logistical challenges. In response to the announcement, the National General Secretary of the Independent Patriots for Change says it can not rule out the possibility of approaching the electoral court in seeking intervention. Over one-million Namibians cast their vote earlier this week to elect the country elected new leaders. Jon Gericke spoke to SABC correspondent, Nixon Katembo
The Global Gag Rule (GGR) prevents foreign non-governmental organizations that receive U.S. foreign assistance funds from providing, advocating for, counseling on, or referring for abortion services—and has successfully done so for 40 years. Beirne Roose-Snyder, Senior Director at the Preclusion Project, and Bergen Cooper, Senior Research Advisor at the Preclusion Project and Chief Operating Officer with the Torchlight Collective, sit down to talk with us about the history of this destructive policy, its long and heart-wrenching impacts, and what the future of the GGR might look like. The GGR, introduced in 1984 by President Ronald Raegan, is a presidential memorandum that is either reinstated or revoked depending on which political party is in the Oval Office. In 2017, the rule was expanded by the Trump administration to apply to all global heath assistance funding. The GGR has, and continues to, affect LGBTQI populations, people living in rural areas, people living with disabilities, sex workers, and healthcare providers, when accessing or providing abortion, contraception, gender-based violence care, HIV /AIDS care, STI care, and more. With the possibility of a change in administration coming soon, the GGR under Project 2025 may extend its reach farther and worsen outcomes.Support the showFollow Us on Social: Twitter: @rePROsFightBack Instagram: @reprosfbFacebook: rePROs Fight Back Email us: jennie@reprosfightback.comRate and Review on Apple PodcastThanks for listening & keep fighting back!

We are so excited to talk to Krystyna Faroe today! Not only is she one of our amazing facilitators, she is also an extraordinary human who has overcome many trials and tribulations and come out of it all with a positive attitude and a smile that could light up any room. Her story is not short or without hardships, as most stories of triumph. Krystyna's parents were Polish refugees in a country that didn't readily welcome them, leading to significant struggles during her upbringing. Her mother's health was fragile, while her father worked night shifts to provide for the family. Krystyna's family history was marked by hardship, with her mother surviving the horrors of a gulag salt mine, where siblings perished due to starvation. Her father, a veteran of the Battle of Monte Casino in Italy, was part of a storied unit that raised the first flag on the hill during the conflict. Their troop's story, including the adoption of Wojtek, a bear enlisted as a private, garnered attention and was immortalized in films. Wojtek, beloved by all, spent his final days at Edinburgh Zoo. The experiences of her parents and grandparents deeply influenced Krystyna's DNA, akin to salmon instinctively knowing their spawning grounds. Raised in an environment shadowed by parental PTSD and financial strain, she faced constant discouragement and belittlement of her aspirations. Despite the odds, Krystyna persisted, embarking on a journey that led her to immigrate to Canada, leaving behind her family and friends. Her path was marked by challenges, including the loss of four horses and personal injuries, yet she remained resilient, replacing her losses and pursuing her passion for Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) despite limited resources. While her husband initially opposed her horse purchases, she pressed forward with determination, using her own funds to pursue her dreams. The move to a new area, despite the distance from her sons and family, provided opportunities to offer support and expertise to those lacking access to urban amenities. Throughout her life, Krystyna confronted fear and adversity head-on, forging ahead with unwavering determination and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. Krystyna has written children's books and articles for informational websites. Her articles have been printed on sites in the United Kingdom and the United States. Her New Adult Science Fiction/Fantasy series of "Elanclose", "Aqueous Passage" and "Travertine" introduce her parviscient protagonist characters, and Kisin the antagonist who not unlike the Kisin god displays anger and ruthlessness. www.harmonyfarmequineimity.com FB: Krystyna Faroe Elanclose Harmony Farm Equineimity Instagram: Harmony Farm Equineimity Elanclose Goodreads: Krystyna Faroe Amazon: Krystyna Faroe Barnes & Noble: Krystyna Faroe Draft2Digital: Krystyna Faroe Smashwords: Krystyna Faroe HubPages: Krystyna Faroe www.krystynafaroe.ca https://www.hostingauthors.com/books/Elanclose
On today's show we chat to an author who persisted in a manuscript he believed in, rode the rejections, and now looks like being a big success. We'll discover what the book is, why it was rejected, how it got published, and watch it burst into the world. Today's guests are an author and illustrator of children's books. The author is a regular and favourite amongst our listeners, and the kid lit community in general, with his encouraging nature and social presence. The illustrator has a whopping 30 books here and internationally, ranging from picture, baby board, Non-fictions, and chapter books. Her Picture book with author Lisa Shanahan received a short list medal for the Prime Ministers literary awards. 65000 copies were then distributed to the children of Victoria for their prep bags. Everybody please welcome Rory H Mather and Binny Talib.

This week's guest is Anne. Anne grew up in an English family whose Christian history goes back generations. As a young child, Anne and her twin took their beliefs seriously, even the damaging ones. Her parents' divorce shook her up. Her family had been “that Christian family,” and it felt like her parents had become strangers. Still, she clung to her faith throughout her teens and twenties. Anne married young, meeting an American missionary while in Scotland, but it seemed her partner wasn't as devout as she'd hoped. His was on his own journey through deconstruction but she didn't want to see it.In her thirties, Anne began to acknowledge the questions and psychological distress she'd had for years. “It's almost like this pressure had been building and building and building and finally it broke through, and I just thought, What if it's not real? I had not allowed myself to ask that question.”It took a little googling, excellent therapy and other people's deconstruction stories for Anne to see that she no longer believed. It's been freeing for her to see the world as it really is. No more “magical thinking.”She and her partner are asking whole new questions, and it's growing them and changing them in ways they never could have imagined. We have a special treat for you today! Today we have two guests on a very similar topic. The first is Margaret L. Freeman, author of “Women of Discriminating Taste: White Sororities and the Marking of American Ladyhood”, which examines the role of historically white sororities in the shaping of white womanhood in the twentieth century. We did a whole show a while back on the book, episode 104. We also have with us Elizabeth Boyd, author of the brand new book called “Southern Beauty: Race, Ritual, and Memory in the Modern South”, which explains a curiosity: why a feminine ideal rooted in the nineteenth century continues to enjoy currency well into the twenty-first. Elizabeth Boyd examines how the continuation of certain gender rituals in the American South has served to perpetuate racism, sexism, and classism. Special discount code 08AUEV on the brand new book called "Southern Beauty". It'll provide our listeners with a 30% discount on the new book when you purchase it on the UGA Press website. In episode 285 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out why Southern Studies has been such a focus for Elizabeth Boyd, why we see racist themes recurring over history - especially in the South, why white southern womanhood has remained a valued performance, what changes are being made to prevent discriminatory behavior, why southern beauty has persisted above all other symbols of power and privilege, how we need leadership to take a stance in order to protect marginalized communities, how we can acknowledge our history and then make meaningful change going forward, and how big a role sororities have played in the grassroots conservative movement of the twentieth century. One of the most beloved figures in modern burlesque, the leader of Ellington Academy, Lottie Ellington is extraordinarily candid with Viktor Devonne as she discusses her now famous media attention in 2015 due to being a teacher who dared have a separate professional life that included loving your body, her friendship and mutual mentorship with burlesque legend Toni Elling and the departed Lottie the Body, and taking space in the gap between educating newcomers and honoring the elders. Meet Today's Guest: Regina YoungRegina Young has always charted her own journey in life and believed standing in your own power makes you unstoppable. Regina has a degree from the Art and Fashion Institute of Philadelphia in Fashion. She is a podcaster, plus-size model, personal branding image consultant, and speaker. She can be heard on Teatime Midlife Edition podcast, a weekly teacup conversation about midlife victories, struggles, and how you're going to live your best life now in the community. Please Tell Our Audience About Your JourneyAt one point, I had to make a bunch of choices. I could do the nine to five, or I could live my dream and just take chances. I chose to do both. I didn't even choose to do one or the other. I said I can have it all, why not? I started modeling or going on the journey for modeling. That was one thing. And then at one point, I became a Ford Model. That was one of the journeys that I took. Another journey that I took was around podcasting. I got to the place in mid-life where I was like, is this all there is? Is there anything else? Or can I create something? The pandemic opened up an opportunity to be heard and seen in mid-life. And that's how I started with the podcast, Teatime Midlife Edition. Can You Tell Us What Teatime Midlife Edition Podcast Is All About? It is for women in midlife. Sometimes women can be alone in midlife. It shouldn't be that way. Women should be in a community in mid-life, and it is a teacup conversation. It takes about 20 minutes, once a week, for the first season. The second season may look a little different, but we talk about the struggles, the victories, all kinds of things. In a community, supporting one another is a key to feeling fulfilled, and having a good sense of life. Feeling like life is working, because you have someone you can rely on and you could share your victories with. That's what it's about. How Do You Overcome the Challenges of Having Difficult Conversations Over the Airwaves? If I want to make a difference in the world, I have to be the example. If I'm going to be vulnerable, then I assert that other people will be vulnerable. I can't ask one to do more than what I'm willing to do. Unfortunately, my father just passed away, and I shared the different phases of grief. Being open and honest like that. I'm not under the illusion that I'm the only one going through it. I feel like if I make it okay, for me to share myself, maybe you'll be okay with sharing yourself. What Can You Say to the Mid-Lifers Listening Right Now to Pour Into Them?I do stand in the quote, if it's to be it's up to me. You're going to have to participate in your own rescue. That is the real deal. Believe that this too shall pass. Those are the three things that I use to move forward in any challenging situation. It's important to be in a community. You have someone who's the support that can help prop you up if necessary. Most of all, someone to hold your hand or comfort you when it's down and say it's going to be okay. In a community, you will get everything you need, because there's someone who's already been through it, going through it, or missed it. But the reality is you'll get everything you need in a community. I Heard You Have Some Great Things Coming up That You're Putting Together. Could You Tell Us a Little Bit About That?I am starting a curriculum for women in mid-life. It's helpful in midlife because there's a point where you get into a fashion rut. There's an opportunity to rebrand yourself or reinvent yourself in your image. And my course is called Model Perfect Woman. Every woman is model-perfect with style. I want to reach a lot of women, where they get to reinvent themselves and see their image newly. It's not about trying something old and making it new. It's about authentically being yourself. Having your image represent you from your core authentic self. You've always wanted to do it. You just couldn't see how. People get stuck in past images. They get into a fashion rut. They loved themselves 10 years ago, and they looked fabulous. Everything was perfect. And now look, it's mid-life and they don't know what's next and how to bridge from 10 years ago. If You Were to Describe Yourself With Three Different Words, What Would Those Three Words Be?Persisted. Fun. Loving. What Is Your All-Time Favorite Business Look?I love a simple blazer jacket and a simple dress. It could be zip up the back, knee-length. I do like a little black dress or a patterned dress with a jacket. That's a simple business look. What Is Your All-Time Favorite Business Book?"Who Moved My Cheese?"
