With the Open Championship golf underway, it's about time Barry led us through the biography of the so-called Phantom Of The Open, aka Maurice Flitcroft. Immortalised in the film starring Mark Rylance, Flitcroft tried to fool the powers-that-be by entering the Open in 1976, a mere two years after taking up the game. In doing so, he set a record for the worst ever score posted in the event and entered many more times under various aliases to avoid being detected. His story is funny, heartwarming and VERY Worst Foot Forward. Today, we are bringing back our Choice Overload show with 4 feature films! For those who are unfamiliar with our Choice Overload format, here's a quick refresher.  Back in early 2020, streamer sites were loading up hundreds of movies to satisfy the millions of folks stuck in their homes.  We decided to binge watch movies and let our listeners know if those movies were worth watching.   To make it fun, we decided that we would have to choose movies that none of us had seen before.  Also, to add some risk to our game, once we chose a movie, we had to watch it and review it regardless of how horrible it might be.  And of course, the point of Choice Overload is to let our listeners know if a lesser known movie is worth watching or not and why.  Kenny and Del chose 2 movies each and will quickly review them before giving their 3P rating. In this show, we do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself.  Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam packed with entertaining and interesting discussions.  If that sounds like your sort of bag, hang out with Kenny and Del as they get into Choice Overload.  As always, chapter tags are available in Buzzsprout to help you skip directly to a particular movie.  Below are the timestamps to help you navigate in other podcast apps.  (00:06:21) -  VENGEANCE available on Peacock(00:22:45)  - KILLERS ANONYMOUS   available on Hulu(00:36:21) -  MEET CUTE   available on Peacock(00:53:44) -  PHANTOM OF THE OPEN available on VOD(01:08:45) - THE REHASHThanks for listening and be sure to subscribe to get instant notifications of our next show!https://linktr.ee/BiAPodcastTheme song "Loli'ana" written and performed by award winning musician Kamuela Kahoano.   Listen to more of Kamuela's music on iTunes and https://kamuelamusic.com/.  Also, "Loli'ana" performed live at The Ko'olau Banquet Hall can bee see here https://youtu.be/YDJ1NNJgEiA  Thanks for listening!  Don't forget our next bi-weekly Pod and keep an eye out for our specials, series, request line, and news episodes!  And please subscribe and review!

"The Phantom Of The Open" tells the unlikely true story of Maurice Flitcroft, a British golfer who, with no prior experience, managed to sneak his way into the pros and received the worst score ever recorded at the Open Championship. His determination to keep on playing and improve made him an inspiring figure for many to this day. Director Craig Roberts ("Tolkien") and screenwriter Simon Farnaby ("Paddington 2") came together to tell his story, and they do it with precision, liveliness, and delight. Both of them were kind enough to spend time talking about how they came across the project, working with Mark Rylance and Sally Hawkins, what they hope audiences will take away from Maurice's story, and more. It must be Summer because there's a golf movie of all things. "The Phantom of the Opera" is based on a true story and stars Oscar winner Mark Rylance as Maurice Flitcroft, a dreamer and unrelenting optimist, managed to gain entry to The British Open Golf Championship Qualifying in 1976 and subsequently shot the worst round in Open history, becoming a folk hero in the process. Neil Rosen saw it and tells us all about it. Then, for some reason we talk about the oh so tawdry Amber Heard and Johnnie Depp trial outcome and whether either one of them will ever work again. Bill Bregoli tells us about the new Ricky Gervais Netflis comedy special and Bill McCuddy tells us about going to see "Top Gun: Maverick" after Bill Bregoli saw it two weeks ago. Neil's turn is next so stay tuned for that one. We also talk about "The Valet" in which a movie star enlists a parking valet at a Beverly Hills restaurant to pose as her lover to cover for her relationship with a married man. Hey, it could happen. And for you TV series fans we've got season two of "Hacks" and "The Lincoln Lawyer. So listen in!

Imagine, if you will, a time before Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, and 'The Flash Enters Speed Force' was declared the 'Best Moment in the History of All Time Ever'? Well back in those halcyon days we recorded the first half of a podcast about Peacemaker (9:24) and - the Netflix event that literally no-one is talking about - Charlie Brooker's Cat Burglar (2:27). Then life got in the way, and we had to wait to wait a week for our movie reviews, first of all a pair of British films targeting the 'grey pound', The Duke (18:18) and The Phantom of the Open (25:49), then Disney+'s genre-bending thriller Fresh (31:12), and finally a catch up on Death on the Nile (39:10), just as it arrives on Disney+ in the UK. One quick note, we might have angered the Gods during our podcast as we were hit with a massive hail-storm during the movie segment. Hope it adds a bit of atmosphere! Enjoy! Hit by better weather and worries about the cost of living, cinema takings are down by 40%, says James Cameron-Wilson. New British box office entries are Catherine Tate's 'Nan' and real-life sporting drama Phantom of the Open, with Mark Rylance, which James found less than believable. Away from the sparsely-attended cinemas however, he was impressed by Fresh on Disney+, a beautifully-made genre piece about the dating scene and by Deep Water, Adrian (Fatal Attraction) Lyne's first movie in 20 years, out on Amazon Prime. This week's Empire Podcast sees Sophie Butcher interview Sebastian Stan, while trying not to say the words 'homecoming', 'fahrenheit' and 'boxcar'. Otherwise, bad things might happen. Not that they could be much worse than the bad things that happen in Stan's new movie, Fresh, in which he stars alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones as a new couple whose relationship turns very dark, very quick. Sophie talks to Stan and Edgar-Jones about that, their musical tastes, and more in a fun interview. Also fun, and interviewy, is Chris Hewitt's chat with old podchum Simon Farnaby, writer of this week's whimsical true-life golf comedy, The Phantom Of The Open. The two natter about golf, about Farnaby's output as a writer, and about being yelled at. Then, in the virtual podbooth this week, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara and Amon Warmann for another fun episode in which they discuss movies that deserve a third instalment, get to grips with the week's movie news, including Dune 2, Deadpool 3 and Ms Marvel revelations and, in a top week for movie rumpy-pumpy, review Fresh, Deep Water, Paris, 13th District and The Phantom Of The Open. With the enduring support of his loving wife (Sally Hawkins) and sons, Maurice gets hold of a set of clubs and decides golf is his new calling. The budding sportsman sets his sights on mastering the game – and somehow stumbles into a coveted spot in the qualifying round of the 1976 British Open. And we didn't want to leave it there, so in this special episode Chris Hewitt catches up on Zoom (just a few hours ahead of the premiere, in fact) with Roberts and Simon Farnaby, who adapted the screenplay from a book he co-wrote with Scott Murray, for a rip-roaring chat about golf, movies, life, Wonka, and everything else.
