The long-awaited Hellfire Gala is upon us, and it's such a big party, it's taking us two episodes to discuss it. This time, we're looking at the first six issues, with special attention paid to the gigantic, world-shattering (or in this case, world-building) events of Gerry Duggan's "Planet-Size X-Men #1." The mutants of Krakoa have just taken another huge step in showing how powerful they are now, in a move that is sure to have big ramifications for the entire Marvel universe, and we're ready to talk about what it all means. But first, a discussion about the end of Conan O'Brien's Late Night career sparks speculation on which X-Men member would make the best talk show host. Plus, our thoughts on the first few episodes of Disney+'s LOKI. All this, and more! facebook.com/daysoffuturepodcast Twitter & Instagram: @dofpodcast

Welcome to The Hellfire Gala -- a planet-size event destiny to change the course of mutant history forever. First up, the rest of the team weighs in on the universe redefining Planet-Size X-Men, and all of its intergalactic ramifications. From there, the team turns their attention to the title the most fraught for the X-Kids these days -- New Mutants! Last, join the X-Pack as they take a look at the most recent issue of X-Corps, as it interacts with the Hellfire Gala!
Welcome to The Hellfire Gala -- a planet-size event destiny to change the course of mutant history forever. First up, Hickman's X-Men marches towards the conclusion of its volume with an incredible team change issue that had been months in the making, including the famed X-Vote. Then, Children Of The Atom makes some significant changes to the core of the title -- and finds itself sort of Gala-bound! Then, lastly but not least, join the team for the beginning of the multi-part coverage of Planet-Size X-Men that will change EVERYTHING.
Marvel Comics and Jason Aaron debuted images of their latest creating “Winter Hulk” from Aaron's upcoming AVENGERS story ‘World War She-Hulk'. If the constant retreading up old stories isn't enough, Marvel are obsessed with regressing Jennifer Walters She-Hulk to the point everyone hates the character. (00:11:35) Marvel announced not one but five writers are replacing Nick Spencer on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Kelly Thompson, Zeb Wells, Patrick Gleason and Cody Ziglar are replacing Peter Parker with Ben Reilly for their upcoming Spider-Man Beyond story. (00:33:09) Valiant Comics Upcoming NINJAK features some of the worst on in modern superhero comics. Many customers criticized the work, you won't believe what Big Bang Comics in Dublin had to say about it. (00:46:19) Why are certain corners of the fandom obsessed with the sexual orientation and proclivities of fictional superheroes? Wes and Eric Breen have a thing or two to say about it. (01:02:30) Back in the day the belief was the customer was always right, meaning it was the responsibility of the service provider to ensure their customers were happy with their product or service. Does this rule still apply to the modern comic book industry? (01:19:04) Last weeks PLANET-SIZE X-MEN had an enormous reveal. Can one cool reveal save the Hellfire Gala Event from going down as one of the worst events in modern comic book history? (01:41:13) Disney+ LOKI is halfway complete, and its felt pretty underwhelming. Episode 3 is certainly the most exciting of the series thus far, but they have plenty of work to do to end this on a high note. (02:04:19) Support Thinking Critical at Ko-fi. It's part two of This Week in X for 16 June, 2021 - the third week of The Hellfire Gala! Join Peter, Tyler, & Harry as we discuss New Mutants (2019) #19 and X-Corp (2021) #2. (We discussed the epic Planet-Size X-Men in the previous episode.) In New Mutants #19, we cover the highs and lows of this cast who can so easily undress each other (figuratively & literally) from platonic love triangles to sincere apologies to that shocking finale. And, was X-Corp #2 the sleeper hit of the Gala or a business-as-usual snooze? The panel is split on our reaction. We run through Monet's agenda, discuss potential pitfalls of coloring a diverse cast, and opine on the potential picks for Mutant CXO. Spoiler warning - we discuss everything about X-Men up to and including comics from this week, as well as other current events in the Marvel Universe.
Happy Friday to you all! As Loki episode 2 premiered on Wednesday, this "A" episode starts with my discussion of it! There are some interesting theories to unpack, so check it out! Then there's the comic book pick list, going over my favorite things from this week's comics! The list this week includes The Mighty Valkyries, the Many Deaths of Laila Starr, Luna, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Sonjaversal, Planet Size X-Men, and of course, Demon Days: Mariko. I love how female-forward this weeks reads were! I only have a few comments to make on the latest episode of Superman and Lois, unfortunately, which is followed by the news of an additional Castlevania series, the Marvel Dark Ages AU finally being re-announced, and finally, my statement on if superheroes do or don't (they do). I wrap up the episode with a brief explanation of Juneteenth, since the holiday is tomorrow, and it is the first time the government officially recognizes the holiday. If you're unsure of how to feel about the holiday or it's name, I do my best to explain it in understandable terms. I'll be back this coming Monday, June 21st, to discuss the coming comics pull list, tonight's episode of the Bad Batch, and whatever other news or speculation shows up between now and then! We cover the events that lead to these cosmic fireworks, the most memorable moments of art and story, and the ramifications of the mutants' major move both from our real world perspective and within the Reign of X. Get ready, y'all - we were in an intense, occasionally hot-headed, and thoroughly silly mood for this one. Spoiler warning - we discuss everything about X-Men up to and including comics from this week, as well as other current events in the Marvel Universe.
The boys have a quick shout-out for Juneteenth; they make superhero franchises a little gayer with a game of Fix-It!; Loki (S1E2) gets even more interesting; there are the issues: Planet-Size X-Men #1, New Mutants #19, X-Corp #2, Venom #35/#200; Batman is forbidden from certain sexual activity, Kamala Khan is back, Castlevania gets a spin-off, Star Wars gets an anthology series; and they visit the Trailer Park for a Titans (S3) teaser and Masters of the Universe: Revelation (S1) trailer. Brent does *not* like Warlock.

One of the hardest questions to answer with comics is a very basic one, "Where do I begin?" Each week Starting Points helps answer that by going over this week's new comics to point out ongoing series starting new arcs, notable new series, and trades and graphic novels coming out.#Comics #NCBD #ComicStartingPoints Time Stamps:New Series00:30 - Planet-Size X-Men #102:10 - Static: Season One #103:27 - Jupiter's Legacy: Requiem #104:30 - Compass #106:21 - Seven Swords #107:58 - Save Yourself #1New Arcs09:31 - Justice League #6311:19 - The Silver Coin #313:27 - Superman: Red and Blue #415:09 - Usagi Yojimbo #2017:26 - Norse Mythology #1Trades/OGS19:22 - Locke & Key Keyhouse Compendium21:14 - Jim Lives OGN22:27 - DCeased: Hope At World's End HC 23:38 - Resistance25:37 - Factory Summers27:02 - Pick of the Week (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1)
It's a new week, and a new Monday "A" episode! Today's podcast starts off with my discussion of the Bad Batch episode seven, which covered a fair amount of ground, including the introduction of Rex to Omega! Gotta love it when worlds collide, even if they're just the same universe. My weekly comic book pull list is a beast this week! It includes popular gems such as Demon Days: Mariko #1, Planet-Size X-Men #1, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, and more for the Hellfire Gala, but also indie treasures like the final issue of Maria Llovet's Luna, Ram V and Filipe Andrade's the Many Deaths of Laila Star #3, the ridiculously pleasing Sonjaversal #5, and so much more! Specifically, I talk about a whopping 21 different comics that are releasing this week! Finally, to end on a happ(iest place on earth)y note, I talk a little about Avengers Campus at Disney's California Adventure! I had previously gone through announced expectations, but now that the park is open to visitors, I have a little more information on hos things are, what the expect, and what you'll see and eat! I haven't been myself, but I's so love to! I'll be back this Friday, June 18th for episode 22B, which will cover the best things out of this new comic book week, this Wednesday's second episode of Loki, and whatever news and theories break in nerd culture between now and then! Until then, stay cool, but get sweaty :) website: www.sensationalshegeek.weebly.com Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sensational-she-geek-live-from-yancy-street/id1550410718 PodBean: sensationalshegeek.podbean.com Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/45qGcYnP147aZBVIHC09lI Instagram: @annawiththecomics twitter: @savageshegeek
Wes is joined by Comics Aficionados co-host Dok, YouTuber Comics, by Perch, former editor Gevian Dargan and comic book retailers Uel Carter and Pele. The Comics Aficionados break down all the latest comic book industry news and rumors. Marvel writer Dan Slott recently tweeted there's no reason not to race or gender-swap classic characters. Writer Eddie Robson later backed Dan Slott up claiming it's hard for new diverse characters “to compete with famous, iconic characters with decades of history behind them.” (00:04:25) Marvel Comics are promoting Planet-Size X-Men #1 will have a bigger impact than 1975's Giant-Size X-Men #1. GSX #1 introduced the second genesis team that launched X-Men into comic book superstardom leading to best-selling video games, cartoons and a very lucrative movie franchise. (01:09:42) John Romita Jr.'s first work retiring to Marvel will be on Dan Slott's Fantastic Four 60th Anniversary special. (01:27:10) Marvel's Superman knockoff Hyperion killed Hulk and Galactus in Heroes Reborn #2. Perhaps Hyperion is a little too overpowered. (01:32:46) Rob Liefeld announced he's leaving Archie Comics superhero team-up The Mighty Crusaders after retailers spoiled a major series event. (01:42:49) Finally, there are some astounding comic book sales numbers being reported from creators these days. Unfortunately, they can't be verified by the publisher or distributor. How reliable are these numbers? (02:00:19) The Comics Aficionados break down all the latest comic book industry news and rumors. Comic book artist Eric Canete, Jimmy from Comic Quirks YouTube, Drew from Comics Elite, Larry's Comics, comic retailer Pele and X-Men historian Dok join Wes for the Comics Aficionados podcast. Spider-Man debuted a new costume this week (01:45:35). The panel breaks down into complete mayhem debating the sales of Jason Aaron's THOR run staring Jane Foster as the titular God of Thunder (02:01:15). This Friday, we're talking our usual New Comic Book Day discussions, which includes a great variety of comics! Maria Llovet's Luna #2, Guillem March's Karmen #1, Harley and Ivy finally being confirmed together in the DCU, the ever-phenomenal Daredevil run, two different versions of Wonder Woman, and more are part of this week's reviews! On the news side of things, there's an unfortunate continuance of negativity towards and surrounding Disney, their ownership of Star Wars, and the people they keep, or don't keep, around. But, then we have two Marvel comics announcements, including the new Planet Size X-Men one-shot and the upcoming Infinite Destinies event, and theories regarding both. It all wraps up with breaking news from AT&T Investor Day, including news on Batgirl and Zatanna! I'll be back with a new episode Monday, March 15th, discussing the Making of WandaVision, Superman and Lois ep. 3, and spotlighting representation in the coming week's comics! Stay Sweaty!
