Batman Critic Josh McDonald and X-Men Historian Dok join Wes to talk about all the latest developments and comics in Batman and X-Men. First Josh joins Wes to talk about the continued confusion that is Batman: Fear State. A week after the event concluded DC are releasing stories in Detective Comics and Catwoman that tie into events that occurred months before. Thankfully Robin is a standalone book and is finishing up the Lazarus Tournament. Batman: Reptilian is so strange it has to be read to be believed. (00:00) Dok and Wes talk about Marvel Comics teasing a future X-Men event “Destiny of X” before Inferno is complete or X Lives/Deaths of Wolverine has even started. Dok and Wes also review the latest installments of X-Men and Wolverine. Both of which are very lackluster. (27:33) Support Thinking Critical at Ko-fi. Despite technical issues Drew from Comics Elite and comic shop and later Kiel preview the best and worst releases of the new comic book week. DC and Marvel Comics are debuting several new titles during new comic week November 24th including Black Panther, Hulk and Hawkeye: Kate Bishop. Drew lays out this weeks new releases you shouldn't expect much from or can outright skip. (00:00) Drew and Kiel then name his Top 10 must read new comics for the week. (18:31) Must listen for readers looking for the best bang for their new comic buck. Marvel Comics feature new series Hulk, Black Panther and Hawkeye: Kate Bishop. Marvel Comics also release new issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Death of Doctor Strange, X-Men, Wolverine and Thor. DC Comics feature new issues of Batman: Reptilian, Detective Comics, Robin, Flash and Superman '78. Image Comics feature new issues of Decorum, Gunslinger Spawn, Radiant Black and That Texas Blood. Other indie comics of note include; House of Slaughter, Hellboy, Barbarella, Transformers and Harbinger. Jace and Rocky checkout all the DC title for the week of November 23, 2021. It's a great week with every title being a good to great one. We get the end of Checkmate and Batman Reptilian as well the end of Fear State in three different Batman related books.
Talking everything comics! This episode: Dark Knights of Steel, Star Wars Captain Phasma, The Human Target, Batman: Reptilian, Gunslinger Spawn, Batman Detective Comics, Superman for All Seasons, and Superman: Birthright. We also discuss our favorite opening scenes in Superhero films. On this episode: Alex, Vic, and Mel.
We are here and bringing your thoughts on all the comics we can. Champ had a HUGE week so it's a bit long, but you'll love every moment. This week we get into: Newburn, The Rush, Me You Love in The Dark, Batman, Batman Reptilian and much more! Spoilers abound this week so watch out!
Batman Critic Josh McDonald and X-Men Historian Dok join Wes to talk about all the latest developments and comics in Batman and X-Men. First Josh joins Wes to talk about four new Batman comics including The Dark Knights of Steel, Batman, Batman: Reptilian and Arkham City: The Order of the World. Tom Taylor has drawn plenty of criticism for his recent Superman work but proves once again he's the king of Elseworlds genre comics at DC. Dark Knights of Steel sets up an intriguing blend of DC Comics characters in a Game of Thrones style fantasy setting. Unfortunately, James Tynion's Batman continues limping to the finish line as he wraps up his Fear State event. Garth Ennis takes weird to a new level with his Batman: Reptilian miniseries. (00:00) Dok and Wes talk about X-Men group editor Jordan White's recent interview with AIPT. White is confronted with multiple story events that don't lineup in Jonathan Hickman's Inferno. Rather than own tip to the mistakes, Jordan White called fans credulous and told them to stop thinking too much about the stories. Just another in a long line of gaffes for the weakest link in the X-Men office. They also review the latest issue of X-Men: Legends. Larry Hama continues boring readers with a halfcocked Wolverine story that serves no purpose within the greater X-Men history and lore. (26:46) Support Thinking Critical at Ko-fi. It's Monday, so here's an "A" episode! It's a big'un! We kick off by discussing Creator rights and payment when a project is picked up for film or TV from the "Big 2" before getting into... The News @ 0:13:17, starting off with an overview of what premiering media (TV and Movies) we'll be discussing this month on the podcast, totaling seven different projects across the MCU, DCEU, Star Wars, and other geeky pop-culture topics; before going into.... Ms Marvel @ 0:17:03 discussing drama and curiosity over an initial promo poster and a leaked behind-the-scenes pic; Spiderman: No Way Home @ 0:22:32, we have not only official images, but a plethora of leaked behind-the-scenes pics, and a rumor about Ned Leeds--where I cover his comic history, too; Batgirl @ 0:33:13, with the news Brendan Fraser has reportedly been cast as Firefly. Discussion includes character comic history and various theories; Ant-Man and the Wasp @ 0:38:04 talking the somewhat hilarious Quantumania title leak, what it could indicate, and news and theories on a surprise guest star/cameo; Book of Boba Fett @ 0:41:12, doing a total trailer breakdown, celebrating the lead actors, and being generally excited; Val-Zod HBOMax @ 0:57:34 covering the news of the new writers on this Michael B. Jordan project, as well as the comic history of the character himself; Then a reminder @ 1:03:16 of the Morbius Trailer coming out tomorrow (and why I'm...hesitant...), which I'll cover on the next episode alongside the comic history of Morbius, and what extremely theoretical connections Leto's version could have with the MCU/D+ shows. Then we get into Last Week In Comics @ 1:5:15 for comics out Oct. 27th, mostly talking about Hickman's Inferno #2; This week's New Comic Pull List @ 1:18:17, with a bunch of #1's and a spoiler recap of Batman: Reptilian's wild events; and finally, Young Justice season 4 @ 1:29:20, recapping episodes 1-4, which encompasses the first arc of this season. The next episodes surround Artemis and Cheshire! I'll be back for a "B" episode this Friday, the fifth of November, talking the weekly comics pick list, Doom Patrol on HBO Max, the Morbius trailer breakdown, and anything relevant in the news! Keep warm, happy November! What a title, huh? Probably wondering how that line came up in the episode. Well you have to listen to the show to learn that answer but I'll let you in on a little secret. I got stepped on today. Now I know that that sounds kinda hot and I won't lie it was quite warm out but it wasn't too fun. But you know what is fun? Talking with friends and that's what happened on this episode. That and some comics, including Batman: Reptilian #3, Harley Quinn #6, Robin #5, Echolands #1, Die #19, Made In Korea #4, Department of Truth #12, Vinyl #3, and That Texas Blood #9! My hand hurts.
DC Comics announced veteran writer Joshua Williamson is replacing James Tynion on the the flagship series following his departure in December. Josh McDonald from Batman-News.com joins Wes to discuss the fit and future of the Dark Knight. (00:00) MAriko Tamaki's Jury story in Detective Comics ended this week. The story was average but the art from Viktor Bogdonavic was anything but. (14:25) Garth Ennis and Liam Sharp are a comic readers dream pairing. They continue their strong pairing in another exciting issue of Batman: Reptilian (19:55) Joshua Williamson is already writing the best Batman released comic on the market today, Robin! This week Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake and Stephanie Brown track Damian down to Lazarus Island (26:00) Gene Yang's Batman/Superman is winding down it's short run. It feels like Ivan Reis is wasted on a book with virtually no importance. (30:51) Dok joins Wes to talk about all things X-Men. Marvel released their Death of Dr. Strange trailer this week, which heavily features Magik. Could she be the next Sorcerer Supreme or perhaps the one who puts Stephen Strange down? (37:53) Al Ewing's Cable: Reloaded is a Last Annihilation tie-in. It's mostly a side quest but seeing Old Man Cable return is very entertaining. (43:39) Ben Percy delivers a lot of back story information for Solem in this weeks Wolverine. The problem is, that's pretty much all it delivered. (53:22) Support Thinking Critical at Ko-fi. It's Friday, everyone! This week's "B" episode is a little shorter than what I've been putting out recently because there was no Wednesday media to dissect, and the news was a bit quiet. Still, I have a long list of new comics from this week to discuss, including Mirka Andolfo's Sweet Paprika #1, Barbaric and Batman Reptilian #2, and the final issues of Cable, Beta Ray Bill, and Eternals. Since comics talk makes up the bulk of this episode, I didn't list any time stamps to follow, but the news and rumors segments is at the end! Covering Mirka Andolfo's Red Sonja, Shang Chi marketing, Michael B Jordan's Superman movie, and some more MCU rumors! I'll be back on Monday, AUGUST 2nd for another episode covering the weekly comic book pull list, tonight's episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and whatever other relevant news hits the internet between now and then! Till that time, stay safe, stay hungry, and keep it sweaty. Hiya, folks! This Monday brings us a HUGE comic book pull list for the week, including a total of 21 comics discussed! Highlights include the Mighty Valkyries, Batman Reptilian, Sonjaversal, Strange Adventures, and the return of Amazing Fantasy! These comics will come out Wednesday the 28th, or Tuesday the 27th for DC comics. After a short blurb on the 13th episode of the Bad Batch, I'm covering Marvel's October solicitations! We did DC last week, so it's only fair. There are a ton of exciting things coming out in October, and I've picked out a bunch of ones I'm looking forward to! I had to stop the normal podcast, at this point, to talk about something important I forgot to mention last Friday: Marauders #22, which undid a long-ago wrong to a strong female character who always deserved better. Not only did they undo the wrong, they made it so she never went through the worsts of it in the first place. Now that's a retcon I can completely get on board with, and I talk about the meaningful details here. After a little MCU and Pokemon project news, the podcast today wraps up with a list of Eisner Award winners! The awards were granted over the weekend when Comic Con San Diego would normally be happening, and I'm thrilled to recognize a number of the titles and creators. I'll be back this coming Friday, July 30th for our last July episode, covering the new comics Pick list, breaking news and speculation, and whatever else becomes relevant between now and then! Till then, have an excellent week, and stay sweaty.
Jace and Rocky from Comic Boom! talk about 9 of the 18 titles DC is putting out for the week of July 27, 2021. That's right 18 titles! So many books they had to break this week up into two episodes. Action Comics #1033 - Superman gets more political than we have seen him in a long time as he tries to stop Atlantis and the surface world from going to war. Also there may be much more to Thao-la that meets the eye. Could she actually be working for Mongul? Writer - Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Artist - Daniel Sampere, Color Artist - Adriano Lucas. Letterer - Dave Sharpe Batman Secret Files: Huntress #1 - Helena survived the infection of parasites by Hue Vile, but has the sickness changed her forever? If so, can she use these new found abilities to turn the tables in Vile. Even if she does it may not be in time to save the hero we learn is infected in the cliffhanger ending. Writer - Mariko Tamaki, Artist - David Lapham, Color Artist - Trish Mulvihill, Letterer - Rob Leigh Detective Comics #1040 - Bruce Wayne turns himself into Gotham PD to clear his name While he is sitting behind bars he encounters someone in jail along with him who may, or may not know his secret identity. Meanwhile, the Penguin is definitely returning to his criminally malevolent roots as he attempts to once again prove to be a bigger threat to Batman than just a crooked casino owner. In the backup story we get an incredibly impactful Man-Bat story that feels very consequential. Writers - Mariko Tamaki & Dan Watters, Artists - Dan Mora & Max Raynor, Color Artists - Jordie Bellaire & Arif Priatno, Letterers - Aditya Bidikar & Rob Leigh Checkmate #2 - As we jump around various times of the recent past, we try to piece together just what Leviathan's end game is. At the same time Lois Lane continues to search for clues to understand the cryptic message her father told her before he died. Writer - Brian Michael Bendis, Artist - Alex Maleev, Color Artist - Dave Stewart, Letterer - Josh Reed Batman Superman #20 - Auter.io continues his quest to create a perfect world and for him that means destroying the versions of Superman, Batman and Robin that are currently trying to thwart him. When all else falls, he chooses to splice the hellish world of the Demon with Superman's World of Tomorrow to allow the Demon Horde of the Apocalypse to tear Superman's world apart. Can the Man of Steel and his allies stop the horde in time? Writer - Gene Luen Yang, Artist - Ivan Reis, Inker - Danny Miki, Color Artist - Sabine Rich, Letterer - Saida Temofonte Harley Quinn #5 - Harley manages to successfully infiltrate Hugo Strange's HQ to rescue her new sidekick Kevin, but it takes some bathroom hijinks for her plan to take off. Ultimately she may be successful, but has she actually just played into the plan Strange was hoping for all along? Writer - Stephanie Phillips, Artist - Riley Rossmo, Color Artist - Ivan Plascencia, Letterer - Andworld Design Batman Reptilian #2 - Batman is on the trail of the mysterious monster that is wreaking havoc on the Gotham underworld. He doesn't seem to concerned with the injuries that the criminals are suffering though. This is clearly a Bruce Wayne with a harder edge than we have seen before as he wonders what the monster may have in common with a great white shark. Writer - Garth Ennis, Artist - Liam Sharp, Letterer - Rob Steen Mister Miracle: The Source of Freedom #3 - Shilo Norman just starts to use his newfound powers and gain an understanding of what N'ver Free wants and where she comes from when disaster strikes. Norman is left broken and hurting, can his agent Vito with the help of Oberon get Shilo back in the fight? Writer - Brandon Easton, Artist - Fico Ossio, Color Artist - Rico Renzi, Letterer - Rob Leigh Robin #4 - Damian spends some quality time with his grandfather, but are there lessons he can actually learn and talk to heart from Ra's Al Ghul? Meanwhile back on Lazarus island with the death of Ravager the Lazarus tournament is officially ready to get underway. Writer - Joshua Williamson, Artist - Jorge Corona, Color Artist - Luis Guerrero, Letterer - Troy Peteri

The Nice House on the Lake. So sit down and listen to more unscripted nonsense from J&K and they talk comics, television, and video games. Welcome to House of Comics #47! We know that we have been pretty abstract with the topics this season. After comic book/wine pairings (see HoC #43) and 5-on-5 X-Men pickup games (see HoC #45), we figured it would be nice to do an episode for newer readers and new listeners of the pod. Since most people are more familiar with film than graphic novels, we decided to go through some classic movie genres and talk about some comic books that would fall into those genres. We get into our personal opinions and philosophies around the genres and why we choice the books that we did. Accessibility was a key factor, but we also made sure to provide you with books that we could recommend to just about anyone looking for the goods in this medium. If you've seen every Mission Impossible movie or every A24 film, this is the one for you. Happy Friday! This Friday episode starts with the usual weekly comic book pick list, and boy did we have some great picks! I mostly discuss Homesick Pilot #6, Harley Quinn #4, and Batman: Reptilian #1, but also touch on Silk, Captain Marvel, Marvel Voices Pride, and some others! After the picks, we go straight into this week's third episode of Loki. It was a very different watching experience than the previous two, and not necessarily in good ways. But we did learn some integral information about the TVA and our cast of characters, and I discuss all the speculation as well! After a brief mention of Superman and Lois, I discuss the new trailers for The Suicide Squad and Shang Chi! I'm excited for both movies, for totally different reasons. And since Shang-Chi has such an involved world it's tying into, there are a lot of Easter eggs to be on the lookout for! Finally, this week's podcasts wrap up with the news of a new era for the Amazing Spider-Man, complete with some major switch-ups, including the return of Ben Reilly! There's a whole new set of creatives on these new projects, so if you're a fan of Spider-Man, you'll want to stay in the loop! I'll be back for a new episode this coming Monday, June 28th, where I'll discuss the coming week's comic book pull list, tonight's episode of the Bad Batch, and whatever other news or speculation rears it's head between now and then! In the meantime, stay cool this hot summer; hydrate, hippies; practice empathy; get sweaty about comics! Detective Comics #1038 has a big brawl between Batman & Roland Worth with what we expect is the Magistrate pulling the strings, while the back-up shows that the Penguin may want to return to some former glory. Checkmate #1 brings back all the familiar players from the previous Leviathan events, but can Mark Shaw truly maintain control of all the intelligence assets of the DC Universe? Wonder Woman Black & Gold #1 has some truly astounding art with some great stories that provide wonderful insight into who Diana is. We get more Wonder Woman in #774 as Diana finds the gods of Olympus have been killed, but she is not about to let them remain in the Graveyard of the Gods without trying to rescue them. Harley Quinn #4 shows Harley bouncing back from the events of #3 and choosing to bring the fight to Hugo Strange and rescue her new sidekick Kevin. Mister Miracle #2 continues this excellent series as Shilo Norman's identity may be compromised and the fallout from that may be tremendous. How will he deal with this possible disaster while being attacked by N'ver Free, who claims to be the true child of Scott & Barda? Teen Titans Academy #4 is a Bat Pack investigation into the identity of Red X, but are the kids on the right track? Superman #32 finishes up the series as Superman and Jon are able to rescue the Thakkramites from the Shadowbreed. On the heels of that rescue it's clear the Kal-El is very proud of his son. Robin #3 shows us the first interaction between Damian and Connor Hawke, but it is the surprise guest appearance at the end of the issue that may be even more important. Action Comics #1032 reveals that the suspected Kryptonians imprisoned on War World may be a group that fled Krypton thousands of years before the planet exploded. One thing is for sure, whether these prisoners are Kryptonian or not, Superman will not let them remain enslaved. Batman Superman #19 gives us some really fun version of Superman Batman and Robin in different time periods. Each of the era's is illustrated by a different artist and it really helps to bring the comic to life. This comic is so much fun, we hate that it is ended with #22. Batman Reptilian has amazing art that brings to life this great version of Batman who has a little more of an edge than readers of the conventional version of the Caped Crusader may be used to. Infinite Frontier #1 has some interesting threads but it isn't 100% clear yet how things may all fit together, but the Psycho Pirate and last page reveal were favorite moments for the guys.

Jace chats with superstar artist Liam Sharp about his wildly successful Kickstarter for the first of three planned artbooks. It's always a blast when these guys get together and this time is no exception. They kick off the episode with the news that just as they started recording the campaign hit it's first stretch goal which means an original 24 page comic from Liam with his character Lib Laroche. Liam also shares some details about plans for future stories with Lib. The guys also discuss Liam's love of the artbook as a medium and how it offers a chance at carrying on the legacy of the artist who influenced him. When the talk turns to Liam's current project Batman: Reptilian with Garth Ennis that leads to a discussion of the evolution of art that an artist can go through in their career and Liam shares how he hopes to show some of that change in the pages of Encore. Also the Easter eggs a few other secrets are mentioned as well as plenty of talk about the community of Kickstarter and a quick update on the Jack Katz campaign Liam ran as well. Plenty to enjoy in this episode so give it a listen and be sure and go check out the Kickstarter Campaign!
