Tačiau labiausiai kompozicijas suartina styginių orkestras „A Far Cry“, įrašytas tarsi elektroninių semplerių ansamblis.Laidos autoriai Mindaugas Urbaitis ir Šarūnas Nakas

Rachel's was a very important band from my formative years, I would even go out on a limb and say, they were one of the first American instrumental pop bands to make an indelible mark on the 90's indie scene, using strings and piano as their prominent vehicle to make their artistic statement. Rachel Grimes was the founding keyboardist/pianist of the group and still composes incredible music to this day, the latest being the October 2022 release of the album, Blue Hour, where she was one of the five composers writing for the project. Her humble roots growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, where she came from a strikingly musical household, to the chance beginnings of playing in her first band at the age of 15 and then going on to enroll at the University of Louisville to learn composition and piano. Rachel is an artist of the utmost empathy and integrity, as her love for animals and nature grounds her differently than those of us city dwellers, listen to how Rachel's got started, her intuitive take on Beethoven's dyslexia and her refreshing responses to the segment, The Magnificent Seven Questions! Attack of the Killer Soundtrack - Episode 52 This week we are joined by composer, pianist and old school rock star - Rachel Grimes. Rachel has recently composed the score for Jeremy Frindel's film The Doctor from India, so we eventually discuss that... but not before we delve into her youthful interests, her formative years in the middle of a world-renowned punk rock scene and just how she got involved with the coolest field hockey team ever formed.   And while we confirm that Rachel's is the best part of Will Smith's Hancock, we also mention... Rodan, The City of Lost Children, Jacob Duncan, Lemonade Hayride, The Vogue Theater, every moment can be different, Vincent Guaraldi, Matmos, scenes were overlapping, concurrent streams, very gothy, oh my god... they just made the movie we wish we had made, Jason Noble, Zeppelin, don't go together with this rubber stamp ensemble, Peter Greenaway, viola, two cellos and bass, Nyman-esque, there wasn't the technical ability to put the show on in that room, 900 degrees, Scott Moore, June of '44, The Muppets, we went in two vehicles... a van and a car, Rachel's Halo, 8-tracks, a very urgent Summertime decision, Christian Fredericksen, 37 pieces of music that don't sound anything like each other, it's all about Scott, monomaniacs, Blade Runner, a mixed bag of painful truths, hardcore and straight edge, Fugazi, the grittiness of the plot, I've nearly lost my mind and soul many times over it, Hula Hoop, it's an all-in experience... and that, to me, is the great potential of film, integral to my growing up, Todd Cook, there was a filtration system, the rise of the cultivator of the soundtrack that is not a score, Gwar, a midi performance, the Wheelers were in Return to Oz not The Wiz, hearing live music, their incredibly snarky focused press, thank you Warner Brothers, My Morning Jacket, I've gotta get my Brahms ready, post-punk, the urgency of the moment was more relevant, it make almost a rite of passage, creative power here, every night we're in a cloud of smoke, Samuel L. Jackson, Chopin, instant cinematic quality, do you have a temp score, Philip Glass, start things at the piano, both the music and film industry have been through pretty cataclysmic change... since the 90's, good inspirational stories, it's very mellow, clarinet clusters, it was baffling and it was a great challenge from a young age... to figure that out, well-rounded interests, Edward Grimes, interacting with and supporting what is happening in the film, it really is sort of a journey, truly experimental art noise, they don't want to pay their money to an outside source, serving a support role, the Slamdek Field Hockey Rockers, we had a lot of different musical influences... that were all just sittin' in the same basket, it was a source of contention in the band, it's kind of more just like you're leaping lily pad to lily pad... through a soundtrack, Star Maps and it's all just become sort of a blur... of movies and music. "I do have distinct memories, of sitting on the bench and watching my dad play... and just being completely flummoxed. How does that work?!" Rachel Grimes composes music for solo piano, large ensembles, and chamber groups.  A founding member of Rachel's, she was an integral part of a musical movement that helped marry the seemingly disparate worlds of neoclassical music and indie rock. She is a vital part of the Louisville arts scene and works tirelessly to preserve and present the rich culture and history of Louisville and Kentucky. Oh, and she knows her beer, too! She sat down with JC to talk about the evolution of her compositional processes, the challenging nature of collaboration, and how music can be used to teach historical lessons. This episode is brought to you by Heine Bros. Coffee and Dauntless Distributing.

RECORDED AS POP CULTURE CLUB:  Expressing love for music is often very difficult to put into words.  And some of the most powerful songs that have changed my life may not even have lyrics. Rachel Grimes is responsible for many of these songs, being a "key" player in one of my all-time favorite bands, The Rachel's.  They also recorded my favorite instrumental of all time, featured on one of my top ten favorite records, Music For Egon Schiele.  So you can say that yes, I am quite the fan of her work. Rachel's latest record, The Clearing, is a truly moving piece of work that demands to be heard and has made AV Club's list of the best records of the year so far.  Included are songs with full arrangements as well as the song that closes the record which is mainly just Rachel with her instrument of choice: the piano. Included in this episode is a brief introduction, my interview with Rachel, and some excerpts from her latest record.  This was a tremendous honor and I am eternally grateful to have spoken with one of my favorite songwriters of all time. Maestro Classical Podcast 015: Composers in 2010 pt. 2 featuring Max Richter, Rachel Grimes and Quartet San Francisco Max Richter "infra 4" (mp3) from "Infra" (Fat Cat Records) More On This AlbumOriginally conceived as a Royal Ballet-commissioned collaboration between composer Max Richter, choreographer Wayne McGregor and artist Julian Opie, Max Richter's gorgeous score to 'infra' is deservedly given life of its own in this album-length release from FatCat's instrumental/orchestral imprint 130701 Records. The initial setting for 'infra' was as a ballet - written in autumn 2008 and premiered in November of the same year at The Royal Opera House in London – although here Richter’s score is given the full scope of a standalone new album. Expanded and extended from the original piece, 'infra' comprises music written for piano, electronics and string quintet, including the full performance score as well as material that has subsequently developed from the construction of the album – more a continued reference to the ballet than as a "studio album" in the strictest sense. The composition resonates with Max's characteristic musical voice – majestic, involved textures; fluent and sweeping melodies; an enigmatic and inherently intellectual understanding of harmonic complexities that compels and mesmerizes. Richter's work on the ballet came initially from McGregor's invitation, a request for 25 minutes of music for his piece, inspired by T.S. Elliot's 'The Wasteland' and named after the Latin term for 'below'. This eventually became more collaborative as the project developed – Wayne would ask for Max to extend or alter certain passages of music in accordance with his own amendments to his choreography and concept, whilst logging the whole process for a BBC documentary (broadcast, along with the ballet in full, on BBC2 in November 2008). The dance performance was backed with digital images created by Julian Opie – observational scenes of street life, haunting and curiously balletic despite being of the everyday – and Max's score is an appropriately close reference to the traveling theme: "I started thinking about making a piece on the theme of journeys. Like a road movie. Or a traveler's notebook. Or like the second unit in a film - when the scene has been played, and the image cuts away to the landscape going by. This started me thinking about Schubert's devastating and haunting "Winterreise" (Winter Journey), so I used some melodic material from Schubert as a found object in parts of my new piece." Rachel Grimes"Every Morning" from "Books of Leaves for Solo Piano" (Violinjazz Recordings) Buy at Amazon MP3 More On This Album BBC Pioneering Neo-Classicist reveals her solo debut by Spencer Grady, October 13, 2009: "We owe Rachel Grimes big." "..with Music for Egon Schiele …found the conviction and confidence to match her voice.." "Her most wondrous gift was always her ability to paint the most evocative pictures in purest ivory and her lightness of touch allows majestic statements such as the Corner Room and Long Before Us to ring out, echoing with sensuousness and sentiment before drawing the listener back in." New York Times – Live Review by Allan Kozinn, October 14, 2009: "..offered glimpses of an alternate universe in which expansive, unified projects are everything." "..overall serenity.." "..her evident fascination with French music: Ravel and Debussy hover nearby (in the watery imagery and modal harmonies of "Bloodroot" for example)" Quartet San Francisco "Crowdambo" (mp3) from "Látigo" (Violinjazz Recordings) Buy at Napster Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at Amazon MP3 More On This Album Description of "Crawdambo" from Quartet San Francisco violinist, Jeremy Cohen: "I wrote this piece as an homage to my teacher and mentor, Anne Crowden, who passed away in 2004. Anne instilled in me a dedication to musical expression that truly became the basis of my violin-playing. She communicated to me how important it is that the joy of music-making be evident in my playing at every moment. In this little musical “thank you” to Anne I found myself cooking up a musical soup of favorite sounds, techniques, and rock and classical-infused ideas held together by a mambo rhythm."
