https://youtu.be/o9gH8_MeJuw Matt 9:14-17 Have you ever had someone try to get you to do something that you don't want to do? Some activity or hobby that they love that you just don't? “you'll love it” no, you love it. Sometimes people try to get people to do Christian disciplines without heart change1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.Serving Jesus shouldn't be a burden. It shouldn't feel like a punishment or a push and if it does, you might need to go back to the cross and be renewed. Be born again- find that first loveChristian disciplines are a natural response to a submitted life towards Christ. It's a response. Its not the way you find God- it's the response to him finding youToday what you're going to see is that Jesus is going to return, you need to be born again and you need to fast. Because “The days will come” We may not be in them right now, but they are coming soon.  Christ is going to return In this scripture, Jesus is questioned about the fasting of his disciples, and we'll get into the nut and bolts of this- but I think an important distinction is that Jesus prophesied that he would leave- and he did – he also prophesied that he will return and he willJesus was preparing his followers that he would leave- and when he did- they should fast But about his departure he said-  Mark 13:32 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.they eagerly wait his return- but fasting while he was there wasn't beneficial, because fasting prepares your heart to receive Christ- but if he was there- there's no spiritual benefit to itRevelation 22:12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.Make no mistake friend- Jesus is coming soon- people say when, soon.  He said he was leaving- he said he was coming back. You can't separate the two. We are in a in-between periodMatthew 24:37-39 But as the days of Noah were, READ- people think they have time. Just like the days of noah- they don't. any minute he could returnPeople say “My master delays his coming” and right now he does- but we need to be readyJohn 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.Heb 9:28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.Christs return will occur when we least expect it- at a time when we are the least preparedSummers as a kid- mom leave a list- didn't know when she was coming home- tried to time it1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 readWhat does it mean to youAre you expectantly awaiting Christs return and living as if he could return at any moment?I think many Christians exist and live in the here and now- not thinking of Christs returnWhenever I see people- Lord willing see you Sunday- 1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.Revelation 3:3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.I don't know if you've ever had your car or house broken into, but its unnervingWent on a walk with some church dudes, window smashed, wallet stole “if only I had” That's going to be some people spiritually- “If only I had planned” but no second chance2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be [a]burned up.So the only answer is to be prepared at all times for the return of our savior. It's all about the salt. Last week Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill that calls for a “salt reduction task force” to analyze the state's aggressive practices of salting roads. The study comes in response to new data that links road salting to troubling rises in sodium and chloride in Adirondack Park water wells. Believe it or not, though, road salt is oddly political. The task force will measure salt contamination in drinking water and estimate the cost of property damage due to salt-induced corrosion. Anecdotal evidence of road salt contamination have surfaced around New York State. Earlier this year, a Court of Claims in Rochester heard arguments from a couple in Phelps that alleged that road salt from the New York State Thruway, which abuts their farm, had contributed to the deaths of 88 cows over four years. “They salt the Thruway — I mean heavy,” said John Frederick, who said he was forced to switch to piped-in water. “Sometimes when you look out there in a windstorm it looks like a white cloud of dust.” READ: What impact does salting roads have on the environment? That said, salt is a major business in Upstate New York and the Finger Lakes region. The news that New York would study the effects of road salt on the environment came within days of a mine collapse at a Cargill facility. Now, there are new calls for Cargill to cease mining under Cayuga Lake. Cargill employs 200 people in Lansing, and for its own stake is one of the two largest, privately held companies in the U.S. READ: Cargill mine collapse in Louisiana sparks new concerns about unsafe Cayuga Lake mines Today a conversation with Peter Mantius, of The Water Front Online, which focuses on environmental reporting in Upstate New York.

In school, we are taught – well, some of us are taught – that there are 11 major organ systems in the human body. They include the circulatory, respiratory, urinary, reproductive, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, and digestive systems.   But did you know you also have an endocannabinoid system (ECS)? Unless you are a research scientist or work with medical cannabis, I'm guessing probably not. And yet, the ECS has been called “the most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health.”   So, what Is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?   Unlike many of the other systems in the human body, you can't point to one area or layer of the body and say “that's the Endocannabinoid system.” It's made up of receptors that are found throughout your body. The two primary receptors that we know about are CB1 and CB2, but we're still learning more about this system.   What exactly does the endocannabinoid system do?   Tyler Strauss, an activist for the benefits of cannabis and cannabinoids, wrote a  great article on this subject titled “7 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Endocannabinoid System.”   He writes, “ECS helps fine-tune most of our vital physiological functions. It promotes homeostasis affecting everything from sleep, appetite, pain, inflammation, memory, mood, and even reproduction. So, in basic terms, the ECS helps modulate the regulation of homeostasis across all major body systems ensuring that all systems work in concert with one another.”   Why is homeostasis this important?   Scientific American says, “Homeostasis, from the Greek words for "same" and "steady," refers to any process that living things use to actively maintain fairly stable conditions necessary for survival.   “The term was coined in 1930 by the physician Walter Cannon. His book, The Wisdom of the Body, describes how the human body maintains steady levels of temperature and other vital conditions such as the water, salt, sugar, protein, fat, calcium and oxygen contents of the blood. Similar processes dynamically maintain steady-state conditions in the Earth's environment.”   Which metabolic processes does the ECS help regulate?   Dr. Sunil Aggarwal pointed out during the Cannabis Health Summit that ECS plays a role in processes such as:   Mood regulation Appetite Memory Inflammation Pain perception Muscle tone and movement Extinction of traumatic memory Protection of nerves and rain tissue Bone growth Tumor regulation Baby breast-feeding reward Stress management Eye pressure Gastrointestinal motility Seizure activity   But there's one place in your body where you don't have CB receptors – your brain stem – which is why it's impossible to have a lethal overdose on cannabis.   --     Resources: Learn more at www.doctorselassie.com (& get a FREE 15-minute consultation!) Episode #202: Grow Your Digital Marketing Agency with Micky Mellen

WP Elevation WordPress Business Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 17, 2019 34:48

What does it take to build a successful digital marketing agency from the ground up? On this week’s episode we are joined by Mickey Mellen, who is a veteran WP developer and co-founder of GreenMellen Media. We talk about choosing your niche, hiring, vetting clients, making sales easy, and much more. This episode is a must-listen for anyone who dreams of going from freelancing to running a successful digital agency. Tune in to this week’s episode of the WP Elevation Podcast to learn how Mickey made it happen! Introducing Mickey Mellen Mickey Mellen is the co-founder and technical director of GreenMellen Media, an Atlanta-based WordPress and digital marketing agency that has 6 employees and over 150 clients. GreenMellen began by offering web design services and has since grown into a one-stop-shop for all things digital marketing. In addition to website development with WordPress, Mickey’s company handles other strategy components for clients like branding, email marketing and SEM. Mickey is also an organizer of the Atlanta WordCamp conference and a local WordPress Meetup group. Mickey Mellen has been developing with WordPress for over 14 years. He has worked with several platforms like Cafelog and Moveable Type before committing himself fully to WordPress. As a freelance web designer, he began by offering clients the option of custom-built sites or WordPress designs. Over time, he found WordPress to be a more reliable platform, whether he was using a custom design or ready-made template. Building A Team Mickey met his business partner Ali Green while they were both working on the Communications team for a large church in Atlanta. Ali was working as a graphic design intern, and eventually left to start her own company. Mickey and Ali contracted each other for their freelance projects until it made more sense to join together and create GreenMellen Media. Mickey and Ali found their first clients through personal connections and referrals. As their clientele expanded, they began to slowly hire staff. Their hiring strategy is to first work with someone as a contractor until the workload builds to that of an employee. In Mickey’s experience, some contractors prefer to continue working as freelancers to maintain their independence. However, others want to become employees in order to focus solely on their technical craft while someone else manages business operations. Before hiring new staff, Mickey takes a step back to “look from above” and decide what role needs to be filled. This is much more effective than hiring with the mindset that “we are super busy and need another body.” He takes a “hire character and coach skill” approach to find people that are aligned with the company culture. Learning at Meetups Mickey found that his area needed more WordPress Meetups, so he started his own. For Mickey, Meetups have several benefits. They get people out of the office and away from their computers to network with people who can become valuable partners. Meetups are also a great opportunity for ongoing education. Mickey says he always learns something new, even when the topic is one he knows well or he is the one leading the Meetup. Finding the Right Clients and Providing Value Mickey finds clients that are a good fit by seeking out specific qualities in a company rather than focusing on a niche industry. He looks for companies who have heart, are connected to the community, and are doing the right thing. He also makes sure that potential clients have a designated marketing person they can work with. A two-person company won’t have time to collaborate with Mickey and his team. The clients they match with tend to have 10-50 employees. Working in several industries keeps things interesting and ensures GreenMellen Media is only working with clients they can truly provide value for. Mickey has found it helpful to hire someone to manage and maintain clients. The company also uses Help Scout to respond quickly to customer support inquiries. They have an average response time of 46 minutes and are proud to share that metric when pitching clients. Help Scout also allows them to track how often tickets are submitted. Then the company can invoice clients if they have exceeded their customer support quota. When working with clients, Mickey is upfront in early discovery meetings about retainer fees. Clients are given several options for ongoing maintenance and support after their platform has been created. Mickey finds that many clients think they will be able to create their own content. However, once they get going they need help. Mickey has a copywriter on staff to create content for clients and the agency. Mickey’s Opinion on Gutenberg Mickey acknowledges that there are accessibility concerns with the new Gutenberg. His Meetup had an accessibility presenter join them recently to grow their knowledge in this area. However, Mickey thinks many of the concerns about Gutenberg have been overblown. His agency will teach clients how to edit with the new tool. He thinks that any issues will come from lack of user knowledge rather than sites “blowing up.” From Technician to Business Owner Mickey’s motivation to begin documenting company procedures came from a WordCamp conference. Mickey’s team uses Google Docs and TeamWork to create templates, document processes, and assign tasks to team members. If Mickey could go back and tell his younger self anything, he would advise him to study more business in school. When Mickey became a business owner, he just started doing what needed to be done and learning as he went. One area of business strategy that Mickey and his company are still challenged by is the ever-present question of where their next client will come from. GreenMellen Media has been getting more recurring revenue. However, for years the agency lived from one website to the next, and they are still doing that to some degree. Gold Nugget Takeaway - Make Sales Easy Don’t miss Mickey’s straightforward strategy for making sales easy at 27:30! Have potential clients compare you to yourself rather than to other companies. Give options by packaging together services for low, medium, and high price tags. Develop a one-pager for each option. Work with clients to create a custom package that meets their needs based on the options presented. This is far more effective than presenting one cookie-cutter package with no room for customization. Manage and forecast sales with a tool like Pipedrive. Wrap-Up What’s Next for GreenMellen Media? Mickey and his co-founder Ali are still working on project management with the goal of getting “out of the weeds” to truly be business owners. This will take one or two more hires in the next year. Mickey and Ali hope this will free them up for business development and spending more time with family. Reach Out You can reach out and thank Mickey Mellen on Twitter (@MickMel). https://youtu.be/iy6Ab1gsQJA Smile in the face of your enemies 1 Sam 2:1-11 Why are we even here today? Why did you set your alarm, rearrange your schedule and come here. We will find the answer in 1 Samuel 2 today. There are many reasons that people Go to ChurchSee people, be with people, talk with people, get the latest gossip, to get noticed, to be appreciated, to feel better about myself, get a better perspective on life, hear good music, serve, be a part of something bigger than myself, build business connections, improve my marriage, have my kids be more obedient, stop my addictions/bad behaviors, check in on facebook to make people think I’m good, to be in charge of something, to influence other people, to find a spouse, to find friends, to be a part of a hip church, to feel validated in your lifestyle, to serve the poor, to help people, to learn, to expand your mind, to check the box, to feel better, to feel God’s presence, to fall out, to receive a word, to advance your own ministry, to expand your influence, etc etc etc There are also many reasons people go to a sports eventTo be around people, talk with people, to get noticed, to be part of something bigger than themselves, to build business connections, do something with my spouse, kids, do something ‘positive’ instead of addictions, check in on facebook, find a spouse, find friends, be a part of winning team, to expand your mind, to feel different, to get caught up in the excitement, to wear the gear, feel like a winner, have something to argue about, to do my civic duty, to be around famous people, to hear good music,Sports events have a lot in common with churches, arriving together, high fives (hugs), sing special songs (worship songs) cheering for the team (clapping, amening), rituals- coin toss, intros, anthems. Exit the stadium, leave the church. Shared identity,Do you know why you go to a sporting event? TO WATCH THE GAMEDo you know why you go to church? TO WORSHIP GODJohn 4:23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.Sports are wrong worship to a wrong God- Many churches worship wrong God as wellWe want to worship the right God in the right way. What is worship? A decision to make everything about thanking God for everythingWe see that in 1 Sam 2:1-11 READWhat do we see from that? HANNAH WORSHIPPED GOD. We should worship GODWhat did we just see in the song of Hannah? A heart of worship!Now- don’t think that Hannah had an easy life. Remember she was barren. She was attacked for her barreness, and her husband was clueless. She was hurting. She was sad. She had a broken heart, anguish and resentment. She was at war with others, herself and GodYOU- Why do people attack me? Why do I hate myself? Why wont God give me what I want?Common story even today- But NOW her worship shows she has been transformed! She was THANKFUL for what God had done. She SAW God for who he was. She wad DEPENDENT on him. Here’s what Hannah had based on her worship: A heart that worships, knows protection, sees a Holy God, wants life change ,sees strength in God, sees God’s provision, sees God’s sovereignty, sees God’s dominion, sees God’s justice, sees God’s plan to install an eternal King- JesusHere’s the biggest thing- the response from Hannah for having God move in her life was to WORSHIP- To be THANKFUL. To have God be BIGGER than HER and HER ProblemsShe didn’t just take what she was given and go on her merry way- she WORSHIPPED GODThis is what AW Tozer said– “Sometimes I go to God and say ‘ God, if you never answer another prayer while I live on this earth, I will still worship you as long as I live and in the ages to come for what you have done already’ God’s already put me so far in debt, that if I were to live one million millenniums I couldn’t pay him for what he’s done for me” This is a heart of worship! How can we repay God?

Work is changing due to automation and artificial intelligence, but it’s not going away. How will we make a living when machines are cheaper, faster and smarter than we are — machines that don’t take breaks or vacations, don’t get sick and don’t care about chatting with their colleagues about last night’s game? In our second Ai Kenya podcast episode recorded in September 2018, we are joined by Mike Cook , Senior Manager, Center for the future of work at Cognizant Technology Solutions. We discuss Cognizant’s view on how artificial intelligence will affect the future of work as per their two publications: "What to do when machines do everything" & “21 jobs of the Future”. We also touch on regulation in artificial intelligence worldwide and penetration of artificial intelligence in Kenya and Africa as a whole. One of us is Lying by Karen M. McManus It has 4.4 stars on 141 reviews. It was published on May 30th of this year, 2017 by Random House. Here is the blurb: Pay close attention and you might solve this. On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention. Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule. Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess. Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing. Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher. And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app. Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose? Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them. The Book is broken into three parts, Simon Says, Hide and Seek, and Truth or Dare. Each part is divided into chapters and it looks as if they are named after the point of veiw character narrating that chapter. The preview has the first one and a half chapters, for 5% of the total book. I'm going to read you all the preview. You will understand why, after I read it... So, here it goes.... (Read) What do you think? Pretty intense, right? This is set up like a classic mystery with a dead body right off the bat, and a number of solidly potential murders. I'm going to read on to find out, "who dunnit". Honestly, I bought this ebook for $10.99 and I'm probably going to get this on audio for Lisa to listen to. I think she would love it, too. Thanks for listening. I hope you've found a new book to read or listen to, and I'f you'd like to help me buy some more books.....

In an election cycle full of surprises -- and unprecedented dissatisfaction with the major party candidates -- voters got a look at a couple of fresh faces Wednesday night in a town hall event live on CNN. Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson, flanked by his running mate Bill Weld, used the opportunity to introduce himself to voters and slam the existing Washington order. "The two-party system is a two-party dinosaur, and they're about to come in contact with the comet here," Johnson told CNN's Chris Cuomo. Weld, a former Massachusetts Republican governor who once worked in President Ronald Reagan's Justice Department and wanted to serve as an ambassador in the Clinton administration, said "that duopoly down there in Washington is not getting a lot done." "It's almost like the parties exist more for the purpose of slandering each other than they do for having constructive approaches to legislation," Weld said. "We like to think we're going to be the third way." READ: What is Libertarianism? Despite their contempt for the current state of 2016 politics, the libertarians showed positive indifference to the political battles being waged on the campaign trail. When it came to Hillary Clinton attacking Donald Trump's business record or Trump calling Clinton corrupt, Johnson said he would "leave that to others." "I don't think either of us are going to engage in any sort of name-calling," Johnson said. "We're going to keep this to the issues, and the issues are plenty." The two had cordial words for Clinton and President Barack Obama, but were quick to voice their differences with Trump. "Starting with immigration, starting with free trade, going on and on and on, killing the families of Muslim terrorists. Really, it's what's coming out of his mouth that I really have issues with," said Johnson, a former two-term governor of New Mexico, of Trump. Weld, who regularly condemns Trump, cast his rhetoric as dangerous.
