Gang Busters was an American dramatic radio program aired from January 15, 1936 to November 27, 1957 on NBC. The show, one of the earliest crime shows on radio, was created by actor-producer Phillips Lord. Each episode began with loud sound effects like gun fires and tire screeches, which led to the catch phrase "come on like Gang Busters." And then, at the end of each episode were the description of each criminal captured and some information on those who were still on the loose. During its entire run, hundreds of criminals were brought to justice, courtesy of the Gang Busters. On December 7th, 1971, police were called to the List family mansion in Westfield, New Jersey. Neighbors had seen the home's lights, which had been on day and night, slowly blinking out and no one had seen anything or anyone for almost a month. Officers made their way into the mansion through an unlocked window that lead to the basement. Something horrific was waiting for them inside. The bodies of 84-year-old Alma, 46-year-old Helen, 16-year-old Patricia, 15-year-old John Frederick, and 13-year-old Frederick were found, all with gunshot wounds. In this seventh season, we are reading six poems about romantic love. Love may seem to be the most fundamental subject for poetry, but interestingly, it is not. When we consider the great poetic traditions of almost any people, we find that love is by no means the first matter that has inspired their poets. The poems we will read together come from several different periods in time, and I would like to examine, among other things, how the language of romance has changed in the English-speaking world over the centuries. Today's piece is "Love Poem" by John Frederick Nims. Poem begins at timestamp 5:52. Love Poem by John Frederick Nims My clumsiest dear, whose hands shipwreck vases, At whose quick touch all glasses chip and ring, Whose palms are bulls in china, burs in linen, And have no cunning with any soft thing Except all ill-at-ease fidgeting people: The refugee uncertain at the door You make at home; deftly you steady The drunk clambering on his undulant floor. Unpredictable dear, the taxi drivers' terror, Shrinking from far headlights pale as a dime Yet leaping before apopleptic streetcars— Misfit in any space. And never on time. A wrench in clocks and the solar system. Only With words and people and love you move at ease; In traffic of wit expertly maneuver And keep us, all devotion, at your knees. Forgetting your coffee spreading on our flannel, Your lipstick grinning on our coat, So gaily in love's unbreakable heaven Our souls on glory of spilt bourbon float. Be with me, darling, early and late. Smash glasses— I will study wry music for your sake. For should your hands drop white and empty All the toys of the world would break.

Episode 183 - Spiritual Formation For The Global Church With John Frederick and Ryan Brandt Episode sponsored by DiverseChurchJobs.com The church is called to grow in Christ. Yet too often, it ignores the practical dimensions of the faith. The church is one in Christ. Yet too often, it is divided by national, denominational, theological, and racial or ethnic boundaries. The church is a global body of believers. Yet too often, it privileges a few voices and fails to recognize its own diversity. In response to this and this conversation our host welcomes authors John Frederick and Ryan Brandt to the podcast to discuss and dialogue about their recent book, Spiritual Formation For the Global Church: A Multi-Denominational, Multi-Ethnic Approach. This edited volume offers a multi-denominational, multi-ethnic vision in which biblical scholars, theologians, and practitioners from around the world join together to pursue a cohesive yet diverse theology and praxis of spiritual formation for the global church. On June 20, 2021, we lost a true leader and legend in the field of addiction treatment - Dr.Joe Pursch. He played a pivotal role in the treatment of former First Lady Betty Ford, astronaut Buzz Aldrin (the second man to walk on the moon), Billy Carter (brother of former President Jimmy Carter), country singer Larry Gatlin, and many others. Dr. Pursch changed the face of understanding, about alcoholism as a treatable disease. RC2C host Neil Scott pays tribute to Dr. Pursch, with clips from his films; along with an interview Neil did with him a few years ago; , plus comments from Thomas 'Hollywood' Henderson, Grammy-winning country superstar Larry Gatlin, and Susan Bales Ford, daughter of former First Lady Betty Ford. , Plus friends and colleagues John Frederick and Len Baltzer share memories, as well. And we also will hear from Joe Pursch, Jr., Doctor Pursch's oldest son.

Our eighteenth episode of the Creative Flow: Thinkers and Change Agents Podcast Series features John Frederick, a lifelong educator who created the Center for Executive Leadership at Daemen College (Buffalo, NY). His journey to Creativity started when he received a postcard that changed his life. This postcard was an invitation he accepted to join a research study called the Creativity Project which involved taking a sequence of four courses as a College Freshman at the State University of NY Buffalo State. Two giants in the Science of Creativity, Sid Parnes and Ruth Noller, were just starting a groundbreaking study that ultimately was the first to prove that creativity can be taught and improved using deliberate creativity methods. John has been an active part of the history of Creative Studies as an educator and instrumental in the field of Leadership. He shares his beliefs about the importance of Creativity as a mindset and that all people can be creative. He teaches his students the importance of different styles of Creativity and how to recognize and honor differences within yourself and others. As he was developing the Executive Leadership and Innovation program at Daemen, John used Creative Problem Solving (CPS) as a foundational approach. His work reflects a belief that we are all leaders, not just ones with a specific title. By incorporating mindfulness and coining the term 3EO (Keeping Three Eyes Open), he encourages leaders to pay attention with a heightened sense of awareness to what is happening within themselves, others, and the context. John incorporates contemplative education in his work and is a founding member of The Mindfulness Alliance. He sees mindfulness as part of deferring judgment, a central tenant to CPS and uses a moment of mindfulness before starting a class. John has attended and led sessions at the Creative Problem Solving Institute (CPSI) for over 38 years, including working in their Youthwise program. While most podcast guests have one Creative Flow, John has four: When he attends CPSI, he describes seeing, hearing, and even dancing differently and feeling “feels so alive in every aspect” When participating in a well-facilitated CPS session Educator Flow when teaching and getting into deep discussion Heartfelt Flow is spending time with the grandkids and being totally engaged with them Don't miss the fascinating discussion in the episode from a man who has lived the evolution of Creativity and continues to take it to new places in the field of Leadership.
It's all about the salt. Last week Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill that calls for a “salt reduction task force” to analyze the state's aggressive practices of salting roads. The study comes in response to new data that links road salting to troubling rises in sodium and chloride in Adirondack Park water wells. Believe it or not, though, road salt is oddly political. The task force will measure salt contamination in drinking water and estimate the cost of property damage due to salt-induced corrosion. Anecdotal evidence of road salt contamination have surfaced around New York State. Earlier this year, a Court of Claims in Rochester heard arguments from a couple in Phelps that alleged that road salt from the New York State Thruway, which abuts their farm, had contributed to the deaths of 88 cows over four years. “They salt the Thruway — I mean heavy,” said John Frederick, who said he was forced to switch to piped-in water. “Sometimes when you look out there in a windstorm it looks like a white cloud of dust.” READ: What impact does salting roads have on the environment? That said, salt is a major business in Upstate New York and the Finger Lakes region. The news that New York would study the effects of road salt on the environment came within days of a mine collapse at a Cargill facility. Now, there are new calls for Cargill to cease mining under Cayuga Lake. Cargill employs 200 people in Lansing, and for its own stake is one of the two largest, privately held companies in the U.S. READ: Cargill mine collapse in Louisiana sparks new concerns about unsafe Cayuga Lake mines Today a conversation with Peter Mantius, of The Water Front Online, which focuses on environmental reporting in Upstate New York.
In the THIRTY-SIXTH episode of our Wingin' It series on the Life of Luther, Wade and Mike highlight the life and work of John the Steadfast. Although not as famous as his brother, Frederick the Wise, or as large a personality as his son, John Frederick the Magnanimous, John is an important figure of the Reformation. As Elector of Saxony, John was instrumental in the formation of the Schmalkaldic League, “protested at the Second Diet of Speyer, and was a signer of the Augsburg Confession. We hope that you will enjoy this brief biography of John the Steadfast, Elector of Saxony. Let the Bird Fly! is supported by the 1517 Podcast Network, which is part of 1517.org. Yes, John Lennon was a spectacularly gifted artist. But the gospel he preached was false. And therefore bankrupt. Now that a mashup of Lennon's Imagine is trending on social media, we thought we'd make available our track of the same name, yet with a strikingly different vision. We wrote this in the early days of Seven Mile Road. John speaks with Frederick Crews, an American essayist and literary critic. Professor emeritus of English at the University of California, Berkeley, Crews is the author of numerous books. Frederick discusses his beliefs that Jerry Sandusky is innocent of the child molestation charges and discuss Joe Paterno and The Penn State sexual abuse scandal facts. John then updates the latest happenings with Leaving Neverland the HBO documentary.
In today's Chapel message Dr John Frederick unpacks Mark 6:14-29 which details the execution of John the Baptist by King Herod. The text invites us to consider how Herod through his cowardice, faithlessness and political posturing shows that, paradoxically, the "powerful" political leader has less staying power than the beheaded prophet. Join us in considering how the Gospel invites us to be faithful fools who follow the crucified King Jesus rather than faithless cultural-chameleons who follow the coward King Herod.
Dr John Frederick unpacks 2 Peter 3 and argues that Peter’s language about fire is not a reference to the literal destruction of the earth by God but about the exposure of our works on the last day for judgment. Join us as we discover how God’s holy love and justice is a consuming fire that reveals the hidden depths of our hearts and invites us to pursue another kind of fire: the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit as it conforms us into the image of Jesus Christ, in both our confession of faith and transformation of character.
In this episode of the podcast John Frederick deals with 2 Corinthians: 5-6, and shows how the apostle Paul envisions the church to be a community that embodies the suffering love of God. Basing his argument on the Old Testament text of Isaiah 49, this New Testament text shows that affliction is not a waste, it is as way—the transformative way of the cross for the sake of others, and suffering is not futile; it is formative. Join us and learn how the afflicted church is the authentic church. Learn what it means to be disciples and leaders who embody the love of Christ and thereby participate in the very triune life of God.

Everyone has felt the sting of failure at some point. In this week’s Principal’s Hour, John Frederick explores how God draws us out of our collusion with failure into a faith-filled and faithful life in Christ.
Sometimes two people can be viewing the exact same scene, or reading the exact same text and end up coming away with completely different understandings. This can occur as a result of a confusing or difficult biblical text. Or, it can happen when we are unaware of some of the central underlying theological and grammatical elements of a text. In this sermon, Dr John Frederick, Lecturer in New Testament at Trinity College Queensland, shows how Colossians 3 is not aimed at the individual sanctification of believers as salvation solo-projects. Rather, the text invites us to reimagine our own path to holy living as one which is necessarily communal. Colossians 3 is not the story of how I maintain my own, individualistic "personal relationship with Jesus". It is the story of how the many become one in Christ.
Ep #65 - Today is the 5 year anniversary of my brother John’s passing, and I wanted to share his story in long form. This is a bonus episode, so bear with me as I take my time, and talk about some funny stories growing up, share his never quit attitude, and why his life was a gift. John was my older brother by 3 years, and passed away at 36 from stage 4 colon cancer. I wanted a place to share his story and legacy so anyone could get to know him. I’m also sharing this for anyone who has walked through hard things like: Tragic Car AccidentsTraumatic Brain InjuryStrokeLosing a Child, Sibling, or ParentBeing a Caretaker I talk about being teased as a kid, the crazy dares he used to make me do, how he persevered and obtained a masters degree with a brain injury, and even finding the love of his life, his wife Bonnie. This is the story, from my perspective, of John Frederick Brauning V. Thanks for listening. In our contemporary culture Church can sometimes appear as a religious box to tick. And probably—if we’re honest—a box we’d rather leave unticked . . . or one that we sometimes secretly hope might disappear altogether. This is actually a reasonable and rational position. Yet, we must also ask: what if the Scriptures are calling us to something deeper, something more authentic, compelling, and radical than status quo Churchianity? What if we are called not to run from the brokenness of the Church, but to run toward it? What if we’re called not called to reject the Church but to reinvigorate, refresh, and reimagine who we are together? Join us as Dr John Frederick, Lecturer in New Testament at Trinity College Queensland, explores these questions and argues for a revolution in our conception of the church from the writings of the New Testament.

Absorption of incoming solar energy acts to heat a planet and its atmosphere. For the planet to maintain a constant temperature, this heating must be offset by an equal amount of cooling. This is accomplished by the emission of thermal radiation by the planet and the loss of this energy into outer space. The exchange of energy between the atmosphere and the planet’s surface is a complicating factor that leads to temperatures warmer than would otherwise exist. In this talk, John Frederick explains how emissions affect this process and what it means for the earth’s climate in the future.
