Episode 180 - On September 22, 2015, in Renfrew County, Ontario, 66-year-old Carol Culleton was murdered in her home by her one-time handyman. The man, who'd become obsessed with the recent widow before killing her, then stole Culleton's car and drove to the home of an ex-girlfriend, Anastasia Kuzyk, 36, and shot Anastasia there with a shotgun as her sister fled the home. However, the killer was not done settling the scores he had cooked up in his head and then drove to the home of another ex-girlfriend, Nathalie Warmerdam, 48. As Nathalie's son ran from their home, in fear of his life, he heard the gunshot that ended his mother's life. The killer, Basil Borutski, 58, a former millwright, then fled, and a brief search ensued that ended in Borutski being taken into police custody. Later on, in a 5-hour long taped police interview, the killer admitted to what he'd done, laying the blame for his spree squarely on his victims. This week we discuss the greatest game ever invented that you can play with a group of people. As a special treat we’ve invited our friends and adventuring companions Luke Pilgrim and Ellis Treece (Sozo Bear Films) from our Dungeons and Dragons group...to share the epic, the hilarious, the tragic, and the legendary moments from our mini campaign that we completed a few weeks ago. Even if you’ve never played Dungeons and Dragons or have little to no interest in the game - WE KNOW you’re going to love this episode and by the end...might even be thinking about joining a campaign of your own. So, come laugh along with us as we describe how a grumpy old dwarf cleric, a fragile but powerful bladesinger elf, and an extremely strong but hardly intelligent half-orc barbarian became unlikely heroes. Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. It was first published in 1974 by Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. It has been published by Wizards of the Coast since 1997. The core of D&D is storytelling. You and your friends tell a story together, guiding your heroes through quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, daring rescues, courtly intrigue, and much more. In Peter Galison’s thoroughly entertaining and informative new documentary, Black Hole: The Edge of We Know poses and answers an intriguing question, What can black holes teach us about the boundaries of knowledge? These holes in spacetime are the darkest objects and the brightest—the simplest and the most complex. With unprecedented access, Black Hole: The Edge of All We Know follows two powerhouse collaborations. Stephen Hawking anchors one, striving to show that black holes do not annihilate the past. Another group, working in the world’s highest-altitude observatories, creates an earth-sized telescope to capture the first-ever image of a black hole. Interwoven with other dimensions of exploring black holes, these stories bring us to the pinnacle of humanity’s quest to understand the universe. Director Peter Galison (Secrecy) joins us to talk about the world-wide effort of scientists, mathematicians, engineers, students, teachers and physicists to reach new heights of understanding our universe and the opportunity to showcase the more personal and life-affirming side of the late physicist and deep-thinker Stephen Hawking. Ok - kind of a baiting title - but I don't think that I am the only one who questions when things go bad... What could I have done differently, what was God trying to teach me, is the enemy attacking? But, one thing that I have been learning more and more is... the story is just unfinished... I actually try to avoid that for some reason - always teaching from something that I have done wrong, As if that is a better qualifier When its really just my battle with not wanting to be prideful Ha - so backward we can be! So in this podcast today I want to teach a quick point about how w approach situations Growing up charismatic in my faith, seeing all the name it and claim, prosperity messages, tongue talking the way of listening to the Holy Spirit - I've had to do some unlearning these past 2 years Not that any of those things are wrong - and I know some that hear me say that may disagree with me… But the unlearning that I am talking about is the fact that I had determined so much of my WALK by what I see… While I believe that God wants us to be with instead of without (like I would my own kids) And that God wants us to walk in the spirit and putting the right emphasis on the power of the Holy Spirit - the gift given to us by God himself on the departure of Jesus.. something to be celebrat3ed whether you believe in praying in tongues, prophecy or not… just simple the gift of the Holy Spirit But too often in my charismatic background, I made these things the evidence of God in our lives Not the tools that God gives us to live our lives In other words, when I wasn't walking in prosperity - that meant that I messed up, or that it was an attack of the enemy… and instead of battling my discontentment, I was battling the wrong battle Instead of walking the situation OUT and trusting the Lord I would trust in my faith and my ability Dangerous territory What am I saying I think that as believers we have this NEED to know the value of what we are going through RIGHT NOW We have to have an explanation RIGHT NOW and what happens is that we go to our reserves when we are depleted or challenged We start pulling from what WE KNOW, instead of leaning in and trusting God We NEED to know right now I need to explain this RIGHT NOW I need answers RIGHT NOW Maybe this is a process/ Maybe this is so multifaceted in what it is doing in me that there is NO WAY for me to know what this is doing RIGHT NOW Why am I suffering? Why did I make that decision? Was it a bad decision or a good one? Why when I listened to God is this HARD? Did miss God when I took that job? Cause this is hard, the house has flooded, the business isn't growing I'm stressed out I'm losing my peace! Is this YOU GOD? WHERE AM I? And I feel like we take those moments and we turn to ourselves to explain.. At least I do! I look at Ephesians 1:7 a little differently since I have been thinking through this 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; We focus on forgiveness and grace… but what about redemption through the blood? Jesus went through SOOOO much pain, torture, and being ridiculed and even questioned God… Matthew 20:18 - Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, Jesus is letting them know - hey so, here is how it's going to go with me I am about to be delivered to the people and they are going to beat me till my last breath, mock me in front of everyone, stripped naked, then - they are going to give me a chunk of wood to walk and carry it to the place where I am going to be nailed to it and killed in front of the whole world All because I am doing what I am supposed to do All because this is part of God's plan for me and for you… Can we think about that? We just pass over that HE went through JUNK on this earth But I find hope in this that in Luke we hear Jesus talking to God about this situation Luke 22:42 - saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” So, is Jesus saying Hey God, is this you? Is he saying, Hey God, can we make this easier? I think what we are learning in this Eason of our life is this And please hear me - you have heard all of this before - but when do we LIVE IT??? 1 - Not everything I think is bad, is bad… Here is my story of what we got right We have been remodeling the camp for our opening dates. Let me stop and give a plug - if you have never invested in the goals, dreams, and God's plan for your family - you need to really consider coming to our camp. We are literally walking families through the experience of hearing from God for the reason why they are together as a family. There is nothing more powerful than having a FULLY GOD CENTERED Family Not that you will achieve perfection - we still argue, have strife moments in our family, but the expectation is in GODs plan and what each of us bring to the family PLEASE _ PLEASE consider coming to ur camp for your family We do this AT cost And if you don't like what you got - we will give you your money back Pray about Ok - back to the story we have been remodeling up here and decided to find a furniture piece that would go into the cafeteria for books and supplies… well, I found the one and was pretty excited as it was “PERFECT” for what we needed. So we Hooke dup the trailer, grabbed a few kids, and drove 45 minutes to the house where we oddly purchase Pulled up, went, and looked at it - hmmm looks a little darker than what I thought And it is a little larger than I thought… But hey let's consider I called Nili and we both felt like it was worth a shot And I pray3ed about it - felt like it was a yes We loaded it all up (5 pieces ) and drove back home Sper excited I get it all unloaded and set up and then Nili is looking at it And… she's like, so, this is not going to work Now pause - in the past where we got this wrong was pride Nili would feel pressure because I took the time and money to get something I would feel pressure because I don't like wasting time or money We would both feel pressure because we would get frustrated that either of us either missed what God was saying, or we were making our own decision In th3 past 0- this was huge potential to walk in bad thoughts and relationships To get offended at each other To be disappointed in me Lots of options Inst3ead, there was this easy place of just trusting God I was like - hey I'll post it for sale online and let's just sell it And Nili was like, it's all good - let's just see what happens Wow - this was amazing We were handling this like adults and TRUSTING GOD Not sure God how this was good for us, but I know that I can learn Am I to learn that I need to hear you better Am I to learn that we can have bad decisions and we can get along through it? Work the money spent… But rather than feeling the need to ASSIGN what God was doing - I felt this peace and unction to just be in the moment and not try to define God and his plan for this entertainment center. This leads me to point number 2 Point number 1 is Not everything I think is BADS, is BAD Number 2 2 - Not everything I see NOW is everything to be seen Sometimes I think we rush to make judgment So that WE have peace or direction - instead of relying on GOD Jesus dealt with the NOW as if it was part of his journey Yep - I think we can do that a LOT BETTER! There is peace there - you know? There is joy there - you know? That place of confidently relying on God and not looking at what you see as the end of what God is doing… So we put the entertainment back on the Facebook marketplace and just trusted God The next day someone comes out to see it and loves it for their remodeled Asked if I could deliver it Sure - I can deliver it - no problem… Again, normally I would not even consider delivering, but I felt like that is what we were supposed to put up this time (I'm a non - delivery guy - I'm like, you want it, come get it) Yep _ I am that guy So, instead of thinking that there is a loss I just leave it to the Lords's hands We sell it to the person and the next day I load all of it up and we drive the 20 minutes to deliver the furniture We get there and we unload it They are so thankful, and appreciative (and my super strong 16-year-old daughter is showing up these construction guys)… And we unload it all AND we make 20% on the sale BUT it doesn't stop there My daughter and son get paid by the lady for working (an unexpected blessing for them) And then she asked me Do you need kitchen cabinets we are remodeling and I don't need these particular cabinets? You can use them for your camp Well - what she didn't know is that we are putting a mini kitchen in one of the large rooms at the top of the mountain. So we were blessed And when I look back at the entire situation We purchased a $275 entrainment center that we couldn't use That we sold for $370 with Talia and Zion getting $10 each to help Plus about $1500 in kitchen cabinets and stainless sink for a project that we hadn't even asked God for provision for…. Say what? Brings me to point three 3 - I need to look more to Code than what I am seeing I believe that in this situati0on - God was leading us the entire time Does it makes sense to make a bad purchase and it be God> Not in the natural mind But to ask HIM, get the, yes, and then immediately have the disappointment of it is the wrong item, to then selling it for a profit, and then to have my kids get blessed and complimented on their attitude of helping, and then to get blessed in an area that we aren't even ready to do… Looking to God instead of relying on what I am seeing… That is the win! But why do I share all of this? Lets recap There are going to be times in your leading life Putting yourself out there to lead others That you are going to make decisions that look like a failure But the story is still unwritten Could it have been a wrong decision, yes or maybe no But that isn't what the end is about - It is about the journey and how amazingly God works for our good Not just ou financial good But our health, spiritual growth, relationships, finances, peace, the fruit of the spirit EVERYTHING And when we stop thinking everything that goes wrong is Bad, or that we have all the information of the situation, or that we should be looking to what it LOOKS like right now as a determiner of our emotions or strength… We are likely, missing God's best And.. if Jesus needed to go to God… well, you probably need to also! Because that what leade3rship is about It is about being one step ahead
Today we are rating and reviewing the 3 worst diets disguised as intuitive eating in 2021. Lets dive right in because we have lots to discuss: Coming in third place: 2B Mindset This is a diet (yes a diet) from Beachbody. The creator has her own weight loss story and uses this to sell the program. A lot of the messaging does sound so appealing – never be hungry and still lose weight, live your life and still lose weight, it sounds so good. Honestly even when I read it I have a moment of hope. But then the truth comes crashing in. Here are some other things that it says: What to eat first at every meal to lose weight What to order first at a restaurant to lose weight “Dozens of my proven weight loss secrets” , if anyone ever promotes their weight loss program or tips as secrets – they lying. Anything that actually worked would be such big news it would not be a secret. Then it says “results may vary based on starting point, effort and following Beachbody’s exercise and healthy eating plan” – okay soooo a diet. Then it says it again – get my secrets to results that last a lifetime. If its a secret its a lie. Then as we go into the website you see that she also has packages that include the beachbody shakes – it gets more diety the deeper you dig. And this is all to say: WE KNOW this sounds appealing for many, this is the problem. Diets disguise themselves as not diets, as something different and this is what leads people down the road an extra 5 years thinking – oh maybe this ones the answer, maybe this one…. It’s really harmful. We want to confirm that this is a diet and pursuing weight loss leads to the same results no matter the name of it. Runner up is: Intuitive Fasting It is advertised as: “A clear but flexible, four week plan combining intuitive eating with intermittent fasting and Ketotarian foods. It’s designed to optimize our wellbeing and set us up to feel our best for all the other weeks to come. This is not a book of dogma. It will not punish you or restrict you. “ You’ll notice these are ALL buzz words and this description doesn’t really say anything. Dr. Will Cole, the author of this book (who is not a medical doctor by the way, he is a quote “leader in functional medicine – his bio on instagram says intuitive fasting + ketotarian + inflammation spectrum (the buzz words that mean nothing.. honestly). The contradictions here are astounding: Dr. Will Cole says – Not everyone is created equal- The realization that everyone is created differently. There is not a one-size-fits-all approach to getting well. What works for one person can flare other’s triggers. To treat symptoms and ailments, functional medicine uses herbal botanical medicine, lifestyle modifications, supplements and medications when needed to regain health. Yet I have written a 4 week plan that you should all BUY! There is no such thing as intuitive fasting. This is like saying be a vegetarian and eat meat – nope not possible. No matter how hard you sell it. The word intuitive is used here because they know that intuitive eating is on the rise in popularity and strict diets are on the outs. What it actually is: This program is actually just 3 of the more popular ways of eating right now, intermittent fasting, intuitive eating and keto (obviously one of these things is not like the other) – and smashing them together to sell something. This program is nothing new, there is nothing intuitive about it and it’s in fact very harmful. Diets suck. We know that. AND the reason these specific diets are the most harmful is because they are a wolf in sheep’s clothing. People who are embarking on the journey to become an intuitive eater often still want to lose weight – so someone coming along and saying Hey, don’t worry you can be intuitive-ish and still fast and eat keto, don’t worry. You can be intuitive AND lose weight. This is predatory and honestly really scary. The key issue here is knowing how to determine if something is legitimately IE or not – ANYTHING with any food rules (including when you can eat) it is not authentic to this work. I think sometimes we almost WISH that it was real – I can find food freedom AND embark on a quest to manipulate my food intake and my body? It’s safe, it’s what we know, but it just won’t get you to where you want to go. The winner of the worst diet disguising itself as intuitive eating is … Noom Why is this the winner? It’s the sneakiest one AND the most successful. Noom is a HUGE company at this point. Founded in 2008 by two engineers (yes, engineers, not psychologists like its advertised) , Saeju Jeong and Artem Petakov, Noom is a personalized health coaching company with its own app. Noom has over 50 million members and has raised over $114 million in investment capitol. And what’s so great about it? Why is it so successful? The reason Noom has done so well is because of it’s marketing, it claims to be a psychology based approach to losing weight for good and don’t forget its not a diet (WINK). One of their slogans is “Don’t go on a diet, go on Noom.” The app claims to help you to learn to eat mindfully and that using psychology you will lose the weight once and for all. There are 2 options you can take when starting Noom – they are, lose weight for good and Get fit for good, note that for the Get fit for good option you still have to choose a weight loss goal soooo not sure how these are different. Luckily you cannot enter a goal weight that when calculated with your height is not considered underweight however for many people the lowest weight they can reach while still being considered in the “healthy weight” range according to BMI can still be a weight that is unhealthy for that person so although these parameters are in place it just isn’t enough to keep people safe. They claim to not be a restrictive diet but once you enter the program you are allotted a certain amount of calories based on how much weight you want to lose and how fast you want to lose it. They also market themselves as being something you only have to do for 10 minutes a day…. Okay maybe you’re only on the app for 10 minutes a day but when you count up all the meals you make, the meals you track, the workouts you do, the workouts you track and then on top of that dealing with food preoccupation and always thinking about the weight loss, what is the actual time this takes? If you are a dieter or used to be a dieter you know it’s not that simple. Again the danger in this program is that IT DOES look so good. As you go through the process of signing up and answering questions it has a graphic that shows your goal weight getting closer and closer (it did this no matter how I answered the questions). It makes it seem like, it’s so close, this is so possible for me. Here is some conflicting messaging that shows that this whole “not a diet” thing is just very smart marketing. “We all fall off the wagon sometimes. We’ll help you get back on track” – if this isn’t a diet, how can there be a wagon? They share some great information on why restrictive dieting is bad: Why restrictive diets fail – (the “Yo-Yo” effect) Columbia University reports that 73% of dieters experience at least one weight cycling episode The Mayo Clinic reports more “Yo-Yo” cycles increases diabetes risk and amounts of belly fat But then THEY are a restrictive diet – with calorie allotments, meal tracking and red, green and yellow foods, saying which foods are good, ok and bad BUT since they ALLOW all the foods it’s not restrictive. But if you put a bad label on a food and limit the calories how are you meant to include these foods into this program? This is restriction- both mental and physical. This information was provided by someone who has done the program: (No we were not going to do this program or pay Noom for this episode, that would be self harm and would also fund a company that we do not believe in). Here are the things that show that this is just another diet: SEE images HERE They also have articles and discussions about mindset which is great (and the thing that they say makes this program about psychology and not restriction) but they really miss the mark on these things.- for instance they say to work on all or nothing thinking, amazing! We say this too but their version looks like this. They say progress can come in all forms not just weight loss. These so called markers of progress are so steeped in diet culture it’s astounding. THIS IS NOT psychology – this is a twist on diet culture and calling it something else. And that is the thing to be aware of in today’s diet market. It’s not the obvious diets, those are out there and you can find one on every corner of the internet – we don’t take any time to talk about those because for people who are at all aware of this work, they are not as dangerous. What’s dangerous are the diets disguising themselves as IE, as wellness and as something different. These things are powerful though, even me being on this website – I had a couple moments of ugh I remember that fun feeling of starting a new plan and thinking this was the first day of the rest of my life. It’s a high. It’s fun, it’s hopeful, it’s exciting. How do we NOT get sucked back into this crap all the time? So please, do not feel bad if these programs have roped you in before? It’s human nature BUT we can learn from this. We can learn to not walk through the door, we can learn to identify diets quickly and move along. How to identify a diet: 1. Weight loss is a focus. No matter what they say after this, if the point is to lose weight, it’s a diet. Yes, everytime. 2. There are ANY restrictions or classifications of foods. For instance labeling foods red, yellow and green. 3. There are restrictions on why or how you should eat – for instance, fasting windows. Pretty much, if it isn’t IE or someone teaching you how to trust your own body, it’s a diet. Much love and if you have found this podcast helpful on your journey please rate and review, it helps the movement and helps new people find this work. Thank you so much.

Have you ever felt that tug to do something more? But then you just… don’t do it. Come on. Be honest. We KNOW you know what we’re talking about. At first, it’s a small nudge that’s easy to push away. You wonder if it’s just your old friend self-sabotage popping in to distract you from your current path (theeee worst). It’s safer to just keep chugging along, right? HA. Wrong. Because here’s the truth: you can’t ignore that nudge forever. When your soul knows it’s time to level up in your life and business, it’s as impatient AF. So what do you do when it’s go-time, but your brain keeps making excuses to stay put? Well, aren’t you the lucky one… that’s exactly what we’re unpacking in this episode. Our 110th episode starts off with a rather disrespectful intro on behalf of Gatrey. Once he comes to his senses, the fellas get into a spirited discussion regarding Danileigh's recent song "Yellabone". Walker expresses his displeasure for the song, but then ushers in a compelling series of thoughts regarding colorism. Why are light-skinned black women so often portrayed as the standard of beauty in society as well as the Black community? What about our dark-skinned sisters? But most importantly, why don't Black men have the same standards placed on them? Other topics discussed include Gamestop, Robinhood, investing, portfolio management, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and the upcoming Super Bowl. Make sure to stick around for Shoutouts where we acknowledge dope things going on in our community, and Player of the Week where we shame those who may have not been positive standards in our community. We KNOW that you can share this podcast with at least one person. Do us a big favor and do that for us. As always, thanks for listening!

Addiction Unlimited Podcast | Alcoholism | Life Coach | Living Sober | 12 Steps
It takes some energy and planning. But it's not impossible to stop the yo-yo sobriety. In this episode I'll tell you 11 reasons people continue to relapse, and some of them you've probably never heard before. A lot of people love the drinking culture, and some have done it so long they don't know any other way. The more they think about not drinking, the more overwhelming it starts to feel. What will you do, what will people think, how will people treat you... But it's all fake. Those are the stories they tell themselves to avoid taking action and being uncomfortable. I did it, too. Our culture has twisted the meaning of fun and what it looks like to have fun. Society screams you have to drink to have fun, you have to drink to relax, you have to drink to cope, you have to drink to connect with people. This is a short road to wasted time and more years of regret. The reality is, we know when our relationship with alcohol is toxic. WE KNOW. I knew for a long time that I needed to give up alcohol once and for all, but I didn't have the strength or the courage to commit to that decision. I also didn't have all the resources the sober world has to offer today. When you feel overwhelmed and scared it's easy to get stuck and freeze. Too scared to make any move at all. But remember, millions of people quit drinking every day. So can you. Join the FB group for support and accountability: https://www.facebook.com/groups/addictionunlimited/

2020 has been INSANE! Honestly, as a Bible believing Christian it just makes me SO much more excited for Christ's return! But at the same time, there are some devastating things happening in this world and it can be hard to hang on to hope and easily get discouraged. Ephesians lets us know that we are NOT in a battle of flesh and blood right now! This is a SPIRITUAL battle!!! Have you been feeling attacked lately? I know I have in certain areas of my life, but let me assure you it is not a worldly attack. HANG IN THERE GIRL! In this episode, I'm gonna touch base a little bit with the End of Times. While, I'm not qualified or know every single detail of these events, I'm going to share with you what I DO know. As Christians it's SO important that we know these things so that we can be PREPARED for what is to come. And trust me girl, the end is near. I don't know WHEN the end is gonna be here or when Jesus is going to come take up His church, but I DO know that things are unfolding exactly how the bible said they were going to! Not only that, but I'm going to give you THE most important tools you need in order to ARMOR up with the ARMOR OF GOD and go into battle. Battle and warfare sound SUPER scary. Don't worry, when you're on the RIGHT side of the battle, you have absolutely NOTHING to worry about. We KNOW how this war ends.... GOD BEING TRIUMPHANT. This episode is NOT about ways to sell to your list. We’ve all heard the stats about how every $1 spent on email marketing, about $44 is made in return. We KNOW that email marketing is the way to sell and see big profits, and I have tons of content that covers how to do that well. But one of the keys to success in selling to your email list actually has nothing to do with selling or introducing your offer.
