Craig shares what it was like working with director Mark Schwahn and the control that Schwahn tried to maintain over the cast. We also discuss what Craig has been up to since the show and he reveals some of his own mental health challenges and how he managed a long depressive period. We wrap up with Al P's Three as always and pick three songs that remind us of One Tree Hill. Also available as a video podcast on YouTube. Actress and TikTok star Ana Sofia Fehn has been doing amazing things ever since I met her. This week on Trying To Figure It Out, Sofia and I reflect on the culture shock we experienced freshman year at USC and the toll that Greek life had on our mental health. Sofia moved from Cleveland, Ohio, to Los Angeles and jumped right into the modeling and entertainment industries; she shares the anxiety and depression that followed and how the culture at USC contributed to an eating disorder as well. Sofia is now in recovery and cooks amazing meals on TikTok nearly every day. We talk about how comments on social media often focus on her appearance and what happened when a video went viral on the dark side of Twitter. This conversation was so fun and Sofia is such a joy, I know you'll love this episode. Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time. This week on Trying To Figure It Out, Max Moinian, co-founder of Future Earth, joins us to talk all about climate activism and sustainability. Future Earth is a community and online platform that shares crucial information about climate changes and seeks to engage followers beyond their phone screens. Max and I talk about how anxiety around climate change can affect our mental health and how to maintain hope for the future. Climate change can be tough to talk about for fear of saying the wrong thing, and Max explains how everyone still has a role in the fight and the importance of staying active while you're still learning. (Spoiler alert: she's still learning too!) We wrap up with three recent climate wins and some tips on where to shop sustainably. Enjoy! World-renowned OB-GYN Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi joins me this week on TTFIO to talk all about women's health. Dr. Aliabadi has delivered babies for royal families and celebrities like the Kardashians, Halsey, and Chrissy Teigen, and she also specializes in PCOS and endometriosis. Today she is here to teach us all about what these conditions are, what their symptoms are like, and how they're typically treated. We also discuss the continual dismissal of women's health and the importance of having women in positions of power to help effect change. From growing up during the Iranian Revolution, to starting out at Cedars Sinai, to adopting one of her patients' daughters, to beating breast cancer, Dr. A shares her own story throughout the episode; trust me, you'll want to tune in. All season on TTFIO, I have been repeatedly amazed by my guests; I can't express how grateful I am for their transparency and willingness to share their stories. Over the past nine months, I have shared pieces of my own story and now, inspired by my guests, I am ready to really open up. On today's episode, I reflect on where I was at this time last year and I tell the story of how I got to that point. A year ago I was at the absolute rock bottom of my mental health because of the employment situation I was in. I share what/the abuse that I experienced and how this past year has been a rollercoaster of healing for me. I wrap up the episode looking ahead to 2023 and how I hope to continue to show myself love and patience. Thank you to everyone who tuned in at any point during this first season of Trying To Figure It Out, and special thanks to my guests throughout these first 27 episodes. We are only just getting started and I can't wait to continue to learn and grow with you all. Content warning: This episode discusses my experience with sexual, physical, mental, and emotional abuse. Abuse of any nature is a sensitive subject, and I want to give my listeners the opportunity to decide whether this is something they can, and want, to listen to. Healing is a personal journey, and while I share my story in an attempt to help others, I understand that it ma not be the right time for everyone to listen. This week on TTFIO I sit down with my dog-walker-turned-little sister, Georgia Goodman. Georgia is a 16-year-old bursting with energy and we met under very random circumstances, which we get into and reflect on how much our friendship has grown since then. Georgia and I always find ourselves talking about conspiracy theories, so on today's episode we go over some of our favorites. Is Avril Lavigne still alive? Do The Simpsons predict the future? Does Chuck E. Cheese recycle and repackage uneaten pizza? Tune in and let us know what you think! On this week's episode of TTFIO, Thomas Pham joins me to talk about the success he has found at only 19 years old, growing up in an immigrant family, his mental health journey, and more. Thomas is a co-host of “Teenager Therapy,” a podcast that explores the struggles of teenage life from a lens that only a group of teenage friends can provide. They have interviewed guests like TikTok star James Wright, the CEO of Instagram, and even Prince Harry and Meghan, the duke & duchess of Sussex–which, believe me, I made sure to get all the details on. Thomas opens up about what it's like hosting a show with his ex and how he's navigated exactly what he's comfortable sharing on a podcast with over 255,000 followers on TikTok. As always, we wrap up the episode with another edition of Al P's Three and you'll get to hear what college students at USC are listening to these days at parties; I think you'll be surprised at what a throwback he picks. This week I'm joined by a very close friend of mine for one of my favorite conversations on TTFIO so far. From his childhood as a queer kid in LA raised by devout Catholics to his life now as a venture capitalist with a *very* active sex life, we really cover it all in this episode. He opens up and shares the experience of losing his mom as he was on the cusp of coming out and how much his life has changed since that time. He has so many amazing stories and his energy is amazing, so I hope you enjoy! This week on TTFIO I am celebrating spooky season with none other than my best friend Beau. We talk all things Halloween while having a bit of a pumpkin painting contest; you'll hear about the costumes we wore this year and I recap my night at Halloween Horror Nights. Beau then shares the details of his solo trip to Paris and how he's been feeling since the release of his last episode on TTFIO when he talked about a falling out he had with a friend. After a Halloween-themed Al P's Three we reveal our completed pumpkins. Whose pumpkin do you think is better? After going through her own divorce and feeling frustrated with the lack of resources to help her move forward, Wendy Sterling became a divorce coach and now offers her 5-Step Divorce REHAB Program to women figuring out this new chapter of their lives. She teaches that divorce can be an empowering experience and helps women reconnect with their values and themselves. TTFIO's Divorce Miniseries continues this week with an incredible guest who has gone through two divorces. Jacqueline Dadanian is a very successful entrepreneur, a devoted mother to four children, and she has managed to rebuild her life twice after both her marriages ended under traumatic circumstances. On today's episode, she walks us through the two relationships – from an arranged marriage that ended in abuse to a speedy Vegas wedding that ended in deceit, you'll hear how she has survived and even thrived after leaving with nothing but her children. How does she feel about dating now and what is her advice for someone going through a divorce? You'll have to listen to find out! Welcome to our Divorce Miniseries here on TTFIO! Over the next few episodes I will be exploring how divorce affects the couple involved, as well as the people close to them. I'll have guests on who have been touched by divorce in different ways, but I'm starting the series off with a solo episode to dive deeper into my experience as a child of divorce. I expand on what I've previously shared on TTFIO and tell a story about the period in my childhood when I refused to spend any time at my dad's house. I've grown so much since my parents divorced and I can't wait to learn even more over this miniseries. Enjoy! How many first dates have you been on? Fifteen? Thirty? Maybe fifty? Today's guest on TTFIO has been on over 100 first dates and he is joining me to give us all his tips on how to nail a first date. Matt Wurnig of 50 Dates 50 States talks all about his experience going on 50 states in 50 states (twice!!) and takes the heat when I ask him the hard questions too. Is he looking for love? Does he have a type? What are his red flags? And most importantly…which state has the best pizza? Enjoy!
Summer is officially over and this week on TTFIO I recap my last few months before diving into how to get back into healthy routines after summer and how to actually stick to the goals you set for yourself. My life coach/trauma coach Charles Cook joins me for the second half of the episode to share his expertise on staying grounded, finding routine, and holding yourself accountable while being kind and gentle to yourself at the same time. Enjoy!
The party continues in Houston this week on TTFIO with another episode featuring cast members of The Ultimatum. Colby and Madlyn Kissinger and April Marie join me to break down their experience both on the show and after. You'll hear how April and Madlyn became friends even after April spent half the show sleeping next to Colby and you'll learn April go-to drink while filming. The cast shares how they feel about how they were portrayed on the show and if they would go on the show again knowing what they know now. I test how well the trio really knows each other before an Al P's Three where we dive into Colby's wild playlist. Enjoy!
TTFIO hits the road this week to meet with two of the biggest stars from The Ultimatum, Colby and Madlyn Kissinger. Colby is a Texas man through and through, and we discuss what's kept him here his whole life as well as his best tips for a trip to Houston. Nothing is more important to Colby than family, and he opens up about how his mental health took a toll when his family went through some difficult changes. We dive into how Colby and his then-girlfriend wound up on one of Netflix's biggest reality shows and what it was like watching the show back afterwards with his wife and co-star, Madlyn. Madlyn joins us to discuss what they've been up to since the show and what life has been like as new parents. We wrap up with a relationship Q&A to really get to know the happy couple – who's always on their phone and who changes more diapers? You'll have to listen to find out! And stay tuned for next week, when we'll bring on another surprise guest from The Ultimatum!
After a week off, I am back on the pod bringing you a solo episode with all my life updates. A lot has changed in my life recently, and today I cover why I took last week off from the podcast, how I quit my job, and a bit about what's next for me and Trying To Figure It Out. The TTFIO team went on the road for the first time this past weekend, so today you also get a tease about what our trip to Houston was like and who we interviewed. I hope you enjoy and for more Houston content, head over to the Trying To Figure It Out YouTube page for my weekend vlog.
This week, Goodboy Noah joins TTFIO to chat about his rise to TikTok fame. Despite childhood dreams to hoop in the NBA, Noah has recently found himself more often in the recording studio than on the court. With strong R&B influences, Noah and his sidekick, Cheetah, are all over TikTok singing and cooking together. We also dive into Noah's childhood and realize that, like me, Noah began to experience more mental health challenges in the wake of his parents divorce. He talks about how he learned to manage his OCD and shares advice for other men who may be struggling with their mental health. Noah is a true comedian, so I hope you enjoy! Disclaimer: In this episode, Noah and I discuss OCD and mental health struggles that we both experience. We have found humor to be helpful at times to cope with the challenges we face; however, this is not meant to make light of the matter in any way and we both take mental health very seriously, as everyone should. For more resources on OCD, check out iocdf.org.
Beau is back on TTFIO this week to help me wrap up Toxic Friendship Awareness Month. Beau is the furthest thing from a toxic friend, and this episode we share more of our adventures together. You'll hear about the highlights and struggles from a sushi dinner date, my alter ego that comes out at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, and Beau's botched attempt at remembering the characters in Stranger Things. There was no better way to wrap up this mini-series on friendship than with my best friend, so I hope you enjoy!
Toxic Friendship Awareness Month continues this week with a friend group that can teach us a thing or two about healthy friendships. TTFIO welcomes Miles, Jutes, Julian, and Anthony, a friend group that spans countries and ages but is one of the most close-knit groups I've ever seen. This episode they spill stories about each other, like how Anthony used to spend Jutes' sound checks throwing up and how Miles is always blowing up the group chat. They also dig deeper and speak on what they appreciate most in one another. I love spending time with this group and I think you'll understand why. Enjoy!
