Joined today by the former Light Heavyweight Champion, Sergei "The Krusher" Kovalev. Sergei rants about his broken iPhone, what he was doing in NYC and the food he misses most from Russia. The Champ then talks about his love for hockey, starting his son playing at a young age, his son's talents and why he thinks his son is gravitating more towards soccer. We chat about why Sergei started boxing at the age of 11, what he loved about the sweet science, and what motivated him to turn pro after over 200 amateur fights. He tells us about his non-stop early boxing schedule, why he almost quit boxing after an opponent passed away after a fight with the Krusher, and that life-changing moment in Wales when he beat Nathan Cleverly to win the world title. We hear about the after party, how he made his fights look so easy and his training schedule. Sergei talks about unifying the titles in his epic fight with Bernard Hopkins, his rocket ship to stardom, being the Ring magazine fighter of the year and what drove him to stay hungry and motivated. Sergei opens up about his controversial loss to Andre Ward, how the second loss really opened his eyes to eating healthy and why he doesn't respect Ward for retiring instead of giving him what the fans wanted, a 3rd fight. We discuss him finally getting to fight in front of his home fans in Russia against Anthony Yarde, how emotional that fight was and the hurdles that went through booking it. I question the Champ about why he took the Canelo fight only TWO months after the Yarde fight and Sergei explains all the behind the scenes nonsense he had to deal with to get that fight. We talk about moving up to cruiserweight, beating the undefeated Pulev, and when we can expect to see him next in the ring. We hear why he doesnt watch TV, the last celebrity he took a photo with and when he is able to buy a new phone. All this with the former Champ!!

IN this week's episode we examine the latest news regarding Conor Benn and the WBC and BBBofC following recent conversations with Mauricio Sulaiman and Robert Smith. On a far brighter note is the fight between Artur Beterbiev and Anthony Yarde, largely because of the latter exceeding all expectation as he handed an established world champion his toughest fight to date. This Week goes back to a time when the light-heavies were ruled by another fearsome banger, Sergey Kovalev.
Promoter Kathy Duva was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020, but officially goes in this year as no induction ceremonies have taken place since the pandemic. Kathy's journey includes plenty of star names, and we talk about Arturo Gatti, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Vinny Pazienza, Andrew Golota, Sergey Kovalev, Tomasz Adamek and many more. But it's Kathy's own story that hits the hardest. She lost her husband Dan when he was just 44, brought up their three children, went back to university, survived cancer, has built and rebuilt Main Events several times over and she's been ringside at some of the biggest fights in history. She's also battled institutionalised discrimination on her way to a deserved plaque in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

A tremendous weekend of championship fights is on tap and from Australia to Minnesota to Wales, we're ready to preview it all on the latest "Big Fight Weekend Preview" Podcast. Host T.J. Rives and Dan Rafael, insider for BigFightWeekend.com, are back with plenty to discuss, preview and predict. First, the guys go over the news of the week with Dan's exclusive story that Triller has failed to prominent fighters from their May 14th PPV in Los Angeles, including Sergey Kovalev and Kubrat Pulev. The guys discuss whether this is the legitimate end to the floundering Triller being able to do boxing business on any scale in the future due to their latest financial mess? Then, they talk about the Gervonta Davis PPV numbers coming in from last weekend in Brooklyn and Dan details what his present day sales success means relative to others. T.J. and Dan also discuss the decision by former heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua to pick American trainer Robert Garcia to work with for his upcoming rematch with Oleksandr Usyk later this year. Next, Dan has an interview with unified Jr. Featherweight title holder Stephen Fulton, who defends Saturday night against former 122 lb. champ Danny Roman in the Showtime Boxing main event in Minneapolis. Fulton gives insight into his mindset and whether we'll see him rematch Brandon Figueroa in the short term, if he wins Saturday. Finally, the guys get to the biggest bout of the weekend, as unified lightweight champ George Kambosos defends his three titles in his home country Sunday afternoon Australian time against American WBC titleholder, Devin Haney. How will Haney fair "down under," especially without his father/trainer Bill, who cannot enter Australia due to a previous criminal conviction. Will the moment be to big or will Haney stun Kambosos? And, in addition to more on Fulton-Roman, Dan previews the IBF Super Featherweight title bout between Kenichi Ogawa and Joe Cordina in Cordina's home of Cardiff, Wales. It's Ogawa's first defense against a decorated, unbeaten challenger.
