If you were hoping to see dominance from the Atlanta Braves against the Philadelphia Phillies, you got it. Starting pitcher Bryce Elder was that dude in their 5-1 win that went to extra innings. According to host Tenitra Batiste and guest Dylan Mathews, Elder showed command, poise, and control to keep the Phillies scoreless through seven innings pitched. The Braves were able to get a late push from their offense thanks to exploiting a weak Phillies bullpen with contributions from Marcell Ozuna, Austin Riley, and Michael Harris II. They are among several Braves players that are deserving of all-star votes and the Braves hope to carry over their recent success to get a tougher test coming up against the Cincinnati Reds. Did the Atlanta Hawks stay the course with their goals and plans in the 2023 NBA Draft? Tenitra Batiste and Dylan Mathews discuss if the Hawks drafting Michigan guard Kobe Bufkin and Penn State guard Seth Lundy was confirmation of Hawks GM Landry Fields' plans all along. Should the Hawks been more proactive on draft night and did they set themselves up for future success. They discuss if Bufkin's path to playing time is greater due to his defensive potential, and if Washington State center Mouhamed Gueye is going to be a big piece for the future of hte Hawks frontcourt. In For the Culture, Tenitra Batiste and Dylan Mathews are checking the fits of not only the Atlanta Falcons but the top-rated NBA draft prospects. They discuss if they're shedding any tears over the Atlanta Falcons doing away with their alternate gradient uniforms this year, and grade the fits of some of the next great NBA stars. They also give love for how Georgia is home to some great basketball prospects like Scoot Henderson and the Thompson twins, and not just a football powerhouse! FanDuel Make Every Moment More. MLB – AP source: Aaron Judge, Yankees reach $360M, 9-year deal A person familiar with the deal says that Aaron Judge has agreed to return to the New York Yankees on a $360 million, nine-year contract. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced. It’s the largest free agent deal in baseball history. Judge will earn $40 million per season, the highest average annual payout for a position player. The contract trails only Mike Trout's $426.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels and Mookie Betts' $365 million pact with the Dodgers for biggest in baseball history. MLB – Braves acquire former All-Star reliever Jiménez from Tigers The Atlanta Braves have traded for former All-Star reliever Joe Jiménez, sending two minor leaguers to Detroit to help restock a bullpen now minus Kenley Jansen. The Tigers acquired outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy and left-hander Jake Higginbotham. The swap at the winter meetings on Wednesday night came after Jansen, who led the NL with 41 saves last season, left the NL East champion Braves and got a $32 million, two-year deal with the Boston Red Sox. Jiménez, who turns 28 next month, was 3-2 with two saves and a 3.49 ERA in 62 games with the Tigers last season, striking out 77 in 56 2/3 innings. The right-hander has spent all six of his seasons in the majors with Detroit and was an All-Star in 2018. MLB – AP source: Cardinals, Contreras agree to 5-year contract Willson Contreras is going to St. Louis to replace Yadier Molina at catcher, agreeing to an $87.5 million, five-year contract with the Cardinals. A person familiar with the negotiations confirmed the move to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal was pending a physical. The addition of Contreras fills a major void for St. Louis, which won the NL Central this season with a 93-69 record. That’s just two days after the Rams claimed the former No. 1 draft pick off waivers from Carolina. McVay wouldn't rule out the possibility of Mayfield playing against Las Vegas, but the Rams coach indicated it likely would happen only if John Wolford's persistent neck injury forces struggling Los Angeles to try a desperate solution to its quarterback woes. Mayfield arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday night to join the Rams. Penn State football entered its 2022 offseason with tumultuous news, with the eventual loss of two coordinators. It continued with six starter opt-outs of the Outback Bowl and has concluded with several players leaving the program early for the NFL. So with all of that change happening, what can Nittany Lions fans expect for 2022? Blue White Illustrated reporter Dave Eckert joins the BWI Daily Edition to discuss that exact topic. He has a list of 22 things to be optimistic about in 2022 for Penn State football, and he joins the show to talk about a few highlights from the list. Host Thomas Frank Carr also asks him to answer a listener-submitted question about the quarterback room in 2022. Finally, they finish the show talking about Penn State Basketball's big win on the road last night against Northwestern. The burning question on every fans' mind heading into the offseason is about Penn State's future at quarterback. Starter Sean Clifford announced that he would return for a sixth year shortly after the season, and some are worried that head coach James Franklin will not open up his job to competition. So will redshirt freshman Christian Veilleux or incoming freshmen Drew Allar and Beau Pribula have a real shot at unseating the incumbent? Eckert gives his thoughts on the matter. T-Frank is skeptical of Eckert's conclusion and shares his concerns about the subject. Next, they discuss three of Eckert's 22 reasons to be positive in 2022. What are his thoughts on the offense, youth, and transfers? Dave thinks that big things could be in store for the Nittany Lions on that side of the ball. Afterward, T-Frank adds one of his reasons to be positive based on what he saw in the Outback Bowl. Finally, they wrap up by talking about Penn State basketball's 74-70 win over Northwestern on Wednesday. The Nittany Lions have now won two Big Ten games in a row and have gotten solid play from key players. They discuss Seth Lundy's big night and what Dave thinks has changed since the team got a key player back from injury. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: http://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://bluewhiteillustrated.podbean.com/ Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Learn more about your ad choices.
