Welcome back to the kitchen table. As mothers, the weight of responsibility often rests heavily on our shoulders. We grapple with the fear that one wrong step could profoundly impact our children's lives. Bethany reminds listeners that amid this chaos, there is a beacon of hope – the realization that our sacred calling as mothers is simply to point to Jesus.   In today's episode, Bethany brings listeners to the profound insights that guide us as mothers, learning to be warriors who point to the One who holds our children's hearts. In the whirlwind of motherhood, we discover that our only sacred calling is to point to Jesus. This simple yet profound realization transforms how we approach our role as mothers.    Everything else falls into place when we make Jesus the focal point of our lives. Bethany encourages mothers that our dual role is clear: to pray and to point to Jesus. In this process, we introduce our children to little snapshots of God, weaving the truths of faith into the fabric of their everyday.    This journey, guided by scripture, transforms the way we navigate the challenges of parenting. As we cling to God's word, we find solace in the knowledge that the Holy Spirit is at work in our children's hearts.   Related Scriptures: John 17:3 1 John 5:20 Romans 9 Deuteronomy 7 Purchase The Warrior Mama's Prayer Journal   Connect with Bethany: Website Instagram Facebook

Principle Season 3 Ep 4This episode is about teaching our children principles.Principles govern the consequences of our choices. So let's figure out what they are - especially when it comes to very important things like our relationships. We have two choices when we encounter a principle: 1) align with it; or, 2) ignore it to our peril. Take the principle of gravity: we can align with it– build a hydroelectric dam, start a skydiving company, build a ski resort, etc.–or we can ignore it to our peril and fall off a cliff. Gravity doesn't change. Our respect and alignment (or not) with the principle is the only thing that changes. Principles govern relationships, too. They, like gravity, are ancient and timeless. And we have the same choice: align or ignore. Learn how principles govern the consequences of all of our choices. The Golden Rule is a human relations principle that is as real as gravity. How can we best teach our children principles?

THIS MONTH'S PRAYER GUIDE: Praying God's Word for Your Child to Have Wisdom Purchasing a device for your child, and allowing them access to social media opens a door that must be crossed with care. Discerning parents need to address and respond to safety issues regarding their children with an appropriate dose of both realism and faith, and on today's show, author Julie Lowe is going to tell us how. Julie answers questions like: Why is it so important for parents to be teaching these kind of skills to kids? What are some of the best strategies to teach safeguarding skills to kids? What are some of the differences in how tweens and teens need to be protected? Safeguarding our children isn't just about helping THEM make wise decisions, but parents, too. What are some of the wisdom issues you address for parents? Tune in now as Julie helps us learn to be discerning, ask the right questions, and do our very best to make sure our kids have a safe experience with online media! THIS MONTH'S PRAYER GUIDE: Praying God's Word for Your Child to Have Wisdom The Bible tells us that there are basically only two types of people—the foolish and the wise. The Proverbs are filled with wisdom for Christian living, and serve as a guide, helping us know how to make decisions, which paths to take, and how to understand the life God has called us to live as believers. Doesn't that sound exactly like what you want God to accomplish in your child's heart? And we can leave a legacy by the way we live our lives that will echo for many generations.

In this episode, Matt and Sam join Moira Donegan and Adrian Daub — co-hosts of the new podcast “In Bed With The Right" — for an in-depth look at the life, times, and work of the late Midge Decter, who died in 2022. Decter was inspired by a distinctly conservative, mid-century American reading of Freudian psychology, mobilized in defense of traditional family hierarchies, which made her an important link between neoconservatives and the religious right — unsurprisingly, she helped found or served on the boards of numerous conservative organizations, including the Heritage Foundation, Committee for the Free World, and the Independent Women's Forum, among others.  Her essays, books, and memoirs represent an anguished counter-revolt against the sexual liberation movements of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, and her trajectory from (ostensible) New Deal liberal to anti-feminist Cold Warrior proves a perfect subject for Know Your Enemy. Decter also was married to Norman Podhoretz (another subject of KYE lore) and the mother of John Podhoretz, current editor of Commentary magazine. Have y'all ever driven down the East Coast? I don't mean to spoil the magic for you but I gotta say, it's basically a straight shot through a wall of trees. So I was pretty excited when I noticed a few colorful billboards dotting my path. That excitement quickly turned to disgust when I realized that those billboards were super-duper racist. These billboards not only appropriated Mexican culture but also used broken English and made fun of Mexican accents. Yikes.  In this episode we break down linguistic racism and dig deep into what it looks like and what we can do about it. Press play to learn: What linguistic racism looks like. The detrimental effects of linguistic racism. Why it's so important to talk to our children about unfamiliar accents.  Concrete ways to introduce unfamiliar accents to our children and fight linguistic racism.   Join us for a Policy Party You know what anti-racism looks like in your home, now let's take it into our communities! Join us for a Policy Party on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. ET, where Lindsay Dusard will talk to us about refugee allyship! At each Policy Party, we hang out over Zoom with experts from community-based organizations who will help us understand the issues and policies relevant to their area of expertise. Each party focuses on a different subject — anything from immigration to environmental justice and more! You'll leave each party with specific actionable steps you can take to make your community more compassionate, inclusive and anti-racist. My friend Lindsay will join us to discuss how we can be better allies to members of the refugee community. She has worked in refugee resettlement for over eight years and is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education, where her work focuses on understanding factors related to refugee and immigrant students' sense of belonging, wel-lbeing and success in the U.S. school system. First Name Basis Patreon members will receive free admission, or you can purchase a one-time Policy Party ticket at firstnamebasis.org/policyparty. If you can't attend the Policy Party, replays are also available with admission.    Check out our Thanksgiving resources Thanksgiving is next week, and we have a gaggle of free resources for you — including multiple episodes, sample letters to send your kiddos' teachers and resources you can use in your home!
