Revolutionize the Way You Look at Chanukah and Tu B'Shevat (and your life)! Chanukah – a time of joyous celebration — the radiance of menorahs glimmering in the darkness, the family gatherings, the traditional foods and songs … Yet there is so much more depth and meaning to the holiday, so many rich and inspiring lessons it has to elevate our lives. And though Tu B'Shevat is often almost overlooked, or simply marked by a few moments of eating dried fruit, it, too, is a day of profound spiritual awakening and significance. The unexplored depths of Chanukah and Tu B'Shevat beckon the thoughtful and perceptive Jew to discover the treasures that lie beneath the surface. In this collection of wide-ranging, stimulating, and original essays, Rabbi Daniel Glatstein draws upon a vast array of sources, many of them rare and some almost unknown, to show us the deep inner dimensions of these two holidays, and how they relate to contemporary times. What makes the mitzvah of Chanukah candles “beloved to Hashem” — and why is the mitzvah so hard to fulfill properly? Why did we need the miracle of the oil at all … and what does it tell us about our own daily lives? Why was the miracle of Chanukah not recorded in Tanach? What is the connection between Tu B'Shevat and repentance — and what is the difference between the teshuvah of Rosh HaShanah and that of Tu B'Shevat? Rav and Founder of Machon Maggid Harakiah in Cedarhurst, New York, Rabbi Glatstein is one of the contemporary Jewish world's most popular speakers and respected maggidei shiur. As you read these brilliant and illuminating essays, you will understand why his more than 5,000 shiurim have garnered literally millions of views and downloads on Torahanytime.com and other venues, while his Hebrew-language sefarim, too, have been acclaimed throughout the Torah world. Like the glowing flames of the Menorah, The Light and the Splendor brings us a luminous new understanding of Chanukah and Tu B'Shevat, an important contribution to Torah Literature and a precious gift to us all.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another episode of The Chai on Life Podcast. I'm Alex Segal, and today we are speaking with Miriam Pineles, a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine practicing in Cedarhurst, NY.Miriam is someone who really heals from the inside out. I met Miriam almost five years ago now when I was pregnant with my first son and experiencing really horrible back pain in my third trimester. Miriam healed me in one week. I couldn't believe it. Honestly, before going to her, I was skeptical about acupuncture and had no interest in it but afterward I was completely sold and talking about it to everyone I knew.Throughout the last few years though, I've learned that it wasn't just the acupuncture or the healing techniques she used, it was Miriam herself. She is meant to be a healer. She is someone that holds space for so many individuals and when you're with her, she makes you feel like you are the only person that matters. In addition to her clinical practice, Miriam teaches “Living With The Elements,” a course she created to help women gain deeper self-awareness and foster harmony in their relationships and homes. If you want to learn more and sign up (it starts September 9!) you can do so at livingwiththeelements.com.In this interview, we speak more about the course she created and what you will get out of it as well as:-How she got into Chinese medicine and how it's deeply connected to Torah and Kabbalah-What is going on under the surface when you're getting acupuncture or Chinese medicine treatments and why they work-Where a lot of unhappiness and disease stem from-How we may be passing unresolved trauma and issues onto our kids — and how you can stop that-What the five elements of Chinese medicine are and how they connect to Judaism-We go through each element and learn a little bit more about what each one means-What the framework of seeing yourself and child through the elements can do for your parenting-Practical parenting takeaways you can start today…and SO MUCH MORE!More about Miriam:Miriam Pineles, DACM, is the founder of Conscious Health and Wellness, Inc., a premier Chinese medicine clinic located in Cedarhurst, NY. With a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (DACM) and certification from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), Miriam is also licensed in Acupuncture by the State of New York. Her extensive training includes mentorship under some of the most revered practitioners both in the United States and internationally. Join your host, Ken Pilot, as he interviews Steve Madden, Founder and Creative Chief of his eponymous Footwear and Accessories brand, Steve Madden.Key Highlights:Steve Madden's Early Career: Steve Madden's career in retail began when he got a job at a shoe store in Cedarhurst, Long Island. He got the job by mentioning he was Johnny Madden's little brother, and the owner hired him on the spot. This marked the beginning of his journey in the shoe business.Creative Influence in Shoe Business: Steve started working in the shoe business during a creative period, particularly in men's shoes. Platform shoes, especially for men, were in trend during the mid-'70s. The store owner, whom he looked up to, fancied himself as a shoe designer, and this environment fueled Steve's interest in the creative side of the shoe business.Mentorship at Gildor: After working at Toulouse, Steve joined Gildor, a well-known shoe retailer. Larry, the son of the owner, became a significant mentor for Steve. He emphasized attention to detail, such as maintaining perfect displays, which left a lasting impact on Steve's approach to business. The Influence of Sobriety: Steve's journey towards sobriety played a pivotal role in his success. He mentions that getting sober was one of the most significant factors in his achievements. It allowed him to focus and make better decisions for his business.Impact of Jordan Belfort: Steve acknowledges that meeting Jordan Belfort, also known as the Wolf of Wall Street, had both positive and negative consequences. Jordan's entrepreneurial spirit provided encouragement to Steve. However, the financial dealings with Jordan and his associates led to legal troubles and eventually Steve going to prison. Despite this, Steve recognizes the role Jordan played in his journey.Appreciation for Teamwork: Steve emphasizes the importance of having a strong team. He credits his success to the people around him, highlighting the pivotal role of his childhood friend, Jamie Carson, who became CEO in his absence and played a crucial part in protecting the company during a challenging period.International Business: Steve Madden's brother, John Madden, played a significant role in building the international business of Steve Madden. John's skill set, including his charm and ability to build relationships, complemented Steve's more hands-on approach to business. International business has experienced tremendous growth, expanding to approximately 50 countries and showing substantial potential for further expansion. Steve Madden is an advocate for using business and trade as a means to foster international relations and promote prosperity. He believes that trading with other nations can lead to mutual understanding and peace..The Steve Madden Group: owns several other brands, including Betsy Johnson, Dolce Vita, BB Dakota, Big Buddha, Blondo, and Greats. Steve Madden is open to further acquisitions, particularly in the apparel sector, with a focus on good management and innovative ideas.Steve Madden is an entrepreneur, an award-winning designer, and a business titan whose eponymous company is currently worth over 3 billion dollars. He is also a recovering addict and a devoted family man. Over the past thirty years, the provocative shoe designer built a booming brand and nearly lost it all to “The Wolf of Wall Street,” only to rebound by giving back and creating a global empire. In 1990, with a mere $1,100 in the bank, Madden followed his intuition and set out to create the next big thing: a company able to anticipate consumer needs and subsequently deliver collections that were both cutting edge and highly saleable. Channeling his creative energy to produce a variety of silhouettes and vibrant styles in his Queens-based factory, quickly his dream became reality and the Steve Madden brand was born.30 years later, with over 200 stores across the globe, the acquisition of notable brands such as Dolce Vita, Betsey Johnson, and Blondo, to name a few, standout collaborations with stars including Sydney Sweeney, Nessa Barret, Cardi B, Winnie Harlow, Ja Rule, Keyshia Cole, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, the designer and entrepreneur continues the hustle. While Madden can recognize success, he is mindful of his humble beginning and support he has received on his journey to achievement. As a recovering addict as well as someone who has learned to manage his ADD, Madden is an active philanthropist and mentor who supports several organizations that help those in need of a second chance.A native New Yorker, Steve currently resides in Manhattan with his children, and is more present than ever at his company's Long Island City headquarters, the various showrooms throughout Manhattan and his namesake stores worldwide.

In 1949 the nine women of the Arthur Murray Girls baseball team took the field against the all-male squad from the Patchogue Athletics. By that year, the Murrays had been together as a semi-pro outfit for some time. Formed out of the sandlots and playgrounds of Queens, they grew under the tutelage of New York Times sportswriter Mike Strauss to become the nucleus of a league that by the late 1940s became the American Girls Baseball Conference. On today's episode, historian and Suffolk County Community College librarian Fabio Montella presents his research into the Murrays, their game with Patchogue, and their full, storied history. Although based out of Cedarhurst in Nassau County, the women traveled a loop that saw them taking the field against the likes of the Glen Cove Clovers, the Perth Amboy Cardinalettes, and the Stamford Nutmegs. Fabio also introduces us to Gloria Del Percio, the last living member of the Arthur Murray Girls. The story of 20th century women's baseball has been popularized by the movie A League of Their Own, but women had their own leagues all across the country. The Murray Girls encapsulate that story at the local level, both as a team and as individual women who loved to play the game. Rivka is an Israeli Haredi political administrator. Since 1999, she has worked for Israeli politician Reuven Rivlin, first as his bureau chief and campaign adviser, and, since his election as President of Israel in 2014, as his chief of staff. She has received extensive media coverage for being a frum mother of 12 in a high-profile political position.   Ravitz considers her high-profile position an opportunity to display her religious commitment and make a Kiddush Hashem (sanctification of God's name). She wears modest clothing, and covers her hair with a wig. She does not fraternize with male colleagues or participate in "staff-consolidation days", and refrains from shaking hands when greeting men, in keeping with halacha.   During Rivlin's 2015 visit to the Vatican, a photograph showing Pope Francis bowing to Ravitz. Despite it being a high profile visit, the Pope had bowed to her in respect of her religious resilience.   During Rivlin's visit to the United States towards the end of his term, President Biden kneeled before Ravitz upon hearing that she is a mother of 12 children.   She has incredible stories with Putin, Wonder Woman and other high profile kings, queens and leaders of the world.   Special Thank You To - Rabbi Yoel Gold of  @hashkifa   go watch his epic vid about Rivka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOyGuavJxks&t=24s&ab_channel=YoelGold   Also thank you to The Orthodox Union's Woman's Initiative for connecting me  with Rivka.   ____________________________________ ✬ SPONSORS OF THIS EPISODE ✬ ____________________________________    ▶ The OU Women's Initiative is EPIC   The OU Women's Initiative implements national programming for women of all ages and stages of life to help each woman find her personal and communal leadership voice.   It's brilliant and you can get involved!   See all that they're doing here: https://www.ou.org/women/   ____________________________________ ▶ Your Next Podcast: UNRESTRICTED! ....LIVE   Join Steve Savitsky the president of Bnai Zion on his new podcast: Unrestricted.   On June 1st, at 8 PM you can hear Steve interview Yaakov Katz, Former Editor in Chief of the Jerusalem Post, in the Five Towns at The Young Israel of Lawrence - Cedarhurst (Spruce ST, Cedarhurst, NY)   Steve's interviews noted public figures that have returned to a more private life, sharing stories, lessons learned, and the values and ideas that kept them loyal to their missions.   Listen here: https://www.timesofisrael.com/topic/unrestricted/ or here: https://open.spotify.com/show/5TSSQffc73Z25LOKBOVnh0   ____________________________________ This episode is in memory of:  • Shimon Dovid ben Yaakov Shloima  • Miriam Sarah bas Yaakov Moshe    Our free call-in-to-listen feature is here:  • USA: (712) 432-3489  • UK: 0333-366-0154  • ISRAEL: 079-579-5088     Follow us on social media for more content:    • TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@livinglchaim • IG - https://www.instagram.com/livinglchaim/ • FB - https://www.facebook.com/livinglchaim • LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/living-lchaim • Website - https://www.livinglchaim.com/   Have a specific question? email us hi@livinglchaim.com WhatsApp us feedback and get first access to episodes: 914-222-5513   If you are interested in sponsoring an episode in memory or refuah shilama of a loved one, please send an email to hi@livinglchaim.com   Lchaim.

Welcome to another episode of GET INTUIT WITH GILA. I have on today Mimi Yaffe. A bit about Mimi here: "Mimi Yaffe is a High School teacher, student coach and Fitness Instructor for Strong Nation TM. Her love for teaching started just 6 years ago. She currently resides in Cedarhurst, NY after moving from Jerusalem, Israel this past summer. Strong Nation TM Classes have changed her view on fitness, movement and exercise. She hopes to share her passion through her teaching group fitness classes to women of all ages!" I started taking Mimi's class a few months ago, and I instantly fell in love with it. Yes, its hard and intense, but its also fun and enjoyable at the same time. Great music with a great beat and a great instructor. I also love that Mimi and the Strong Nation's mantra is that this class is to feel strong and not to manipulate your body- so of course, it's right up my ally. We discuss how Mimi got to this place and why she is so passionate about getting this class up and running. If you'd like to join a class, reach out to Mimi at 516-524-3817. Gila took me through the journey of getting to understand my relationship with food. My triggers and reactions. After a few sessions with Gila, and doing her group coaching, I got to have a greater understanding of my relationship with food, make peace with my body, make peace with food and learn how to approach food from a loving place that is nurturing. Forgiveness: The Jermaine Ewell Story

Forgiveness: The Jermaine Ewell Story This story hits closest to home for us, our town, our friends and our family. The decision was made for me to handle it solo (and to pretend that she wasn't kinda terrified to do so). It was June 2nd 1991 and with school ending and former Lawrence High School students returning from their first year of college, it only seemed right that a party was in order. The Lawrence football team had a fantastic year thanks in large part to Jermaine Ewell, a starting defensive linebacker and offensive fullback at Lawrence. He was also a track team sprinter who was nicknamed “Streak” because of his speed. Everyone we spoke to absolutely adored Jermaine. He was a good guy, a genuinely nice person who looked after his sister and his neighborhood and just did his best.   He, like many of his friends, went to a house party in Atlantic Beach, where the alcohol flowed and emotions ran high. At one point, a former classmate who Jermaine had been friendly with, Shannon Siegel, became angry that Jermaine was talking to a girl who Shannon had once dated. There was a racial slur used -- the worst racial slur -- and the other kids at the party shut that shit down. Everyone will tell you that what happened at the party, and the atrocity that followed after, was not about racism. At least, not until Al Sharpton showed up and tried to make it about racism.   This is a story about a brutal attack that changed Jermaine's promising future as an athlete and ruined Shannon's life as well. But, in the end, when I was thinking about how to title this, how to describe it, how to tell the story with all of the complexity it deserves -- I was left with Jermaine's overwhelming ability to forgive Shannon. And I would like to think that in the end, both Jermaine and Shannon were able to find some sort of peace.   I hope those of you who contributed to this story feel that your words were heard and respected, and as always, we welcome feedback, positive or negative. Feel free to email us at lindsay@crimesoflongisland.com or mark@crimesoflongisland.com and let us know how we did, what we missed, and anything else you need to get off your chest after listening to this episode.                     --Lindsay

In this second part of a 3-part series on Health At Every Size, and how it relates to the perinatal period, Rachel Tuchman LMHC joins us once again to further challenge the traditional belief that weight loss in and of itself is the solution to better health. She expands on the harm of diets and moralizing of food, solutions for how to confront the stigma of high weight gain during pregnancy,  and the feelings of failure when the weight remains postpartum. Rachel also brings awareness to those who are thin on sensitivity toward those who are in bigger bodies, and how their comments, even when well-intended, can be hurtful.    Rachel Tuchman is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with over ten years of experience. She has worked with many diverse populations including incarcerated women at Riker's Island Correctional Facility, kids and adults with developmental delays, kids with behavior issues, overwhelmed parents looking for skills and support, teens struggling with the pressures of adolescence and life in general, adults going through difficult life circumstances (divorce, infidelity, phase of life challenges) and women experiencing infertility.   Rachel is HAES (Health At Every Size) aligned clinician and dedicates a lot of her time out of office to educating parents and kids on the importance of body respect and the behaviors that truly honor our health.      Currently, she offers services in her Cedarhurst, NY office for kids and teens ages 5-18, adults, and women experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss and post hysterectomy.     Rachel also does speaking engagements for schools, synagogues and various community organizations.     You can find Rachel on Instagram: @rachel_tuchman_lmhc and contact her by email: Rachel@lilmhc.com.     Learn all about the new Yoledet Community here. She uses her platform to raise money for those in need, while also advocating for important causes to her such as current events with Israel and COVID19. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Michal Lara Weinstein is a busy mom of 4 who has perfected the art of juggling multiple businesses and causes. A graphic designer for 23 years under her business MLWDESIGN, she opened Events 360 in 2017, a full circle of creative services and one stop shop for your event. Located on Central Avenue in the heart of Cedarhurst, her showroom is a pre-teens dream filled with colorful swag and everything you can imagine to enhance an event. Michal is also co-founder of Couture for a Cause, a non-profit organization that has raised hundreds of thousands towards worthy Jewish causes through fashion shows and other creative means. Michal was the designer of the famous Lion of Zion logo that raised funds for the family and causes of Ari Fuld, HYD who was murdered by a terrorist. In March 2020 when the pandemic hit, Michal created a campaign she titled KARANA (call out to G-d) that raised funds for families impacted. Michal is an outspoken advocate for Israel and has developed a social media following where she shares truthful censored information to thousands. Recently her 22K Instagram account @mlwdesignny (as well as 2 backups) were de-platformed with no explanation, fueling her to continue onward and not give up. She attributes her tenacity and strength to the tragic murder of her father at age 10 and the hardships that followed. During the early days of quarantine, Michal began writing and publicly sharing a memoir that was very well received and she hopes to finish it soon. Michal attributes her life experience to giving her the strength to navigate and lead in these difficult times and she continues to be a voice to those afraid to speak while juggling a very busy life. In todays episode of Get INTUIT with Gila, I sit down to speak with Rivka Breuer. I felt like I had to have Rivka on this show because besides for her being an amazing Registered Dietitian, she is also a Certified Diabetes Educator. Now, this is a very much needed specialty in the field. But besides for that, Rivka's approach is unique because she understands that this is an individualized plan of care for each and every client. We cannot use scare tactics or shame when trying to help someone manage their diagnoses of diabetes. This is not something YOU caused. This is not something to be ashamed of. So much of our physical and mental health has to do with genetics and we have to be aware of this. Diet culture shames people into changing their body. Look how that has worked. It hasn't. We need to start giving people the medical care that they need, irrelevant to their weight. If you are struggling with diabetes or know someone that is, I think this episode will really enlighten you. A bit about our interview: To see the full transcription of this episode, please visit my website www.gilaglassberg.com Rivka has been a dietitian for 20 years. She is also a certified diabetic educator which means she specializes in helping clients who have diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder where the pancreas doesn't have the ability to make insulin. The management for type 1 diabetes is much more controlled and may include insulin shots. With type 2 diabetes and prediabetes, there's still some activity left in the pancreas but with a resistance to insulin. If you can stop it early on, you're ahead of the game and you just have to focus on making lifestyle changes. Most of her clients have type 2 diabetes. She has a private practice based in Cedarhurst, but it is all virtual now. She realized that virtual sessions are very productive with regard to nutrition. Clients are in their own comfort zone so they feel like they can open up a lot more. She works in a nursing home and a doctor's office on the side seeing patients with diabetes. A bit about Rivka: Rivka received her Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Illinois in Chicago and completed the coordinated program internship there as well. She is currently based in Long Island, NY, where for over 20 years, she has been providing nutrition and wellness counseling as a Registered Dietitian to patient groups and individuals in long term and primary care settings, including private practice. As a Certified Diabetic Educator Rivka is uniquely qualified to empower people with Diabetes by gently guiding them with the necessary tools to improve their health and quality of life. She also specializes in Prediabetes, Heart Disease, and Metabolic Syndrome. Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere, Hewlett, Inwood. Somehow the individual names come together to form the larger Jewish community of the Five Towns. Historically an upscale suburban area that boasted country clubs and golf courses that didn't welcome Jews, the demographics began to change in the post war.  Shuls like Beth Shalom, Young Israel of Woodmere, Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst were formed over time. They were led by pioneering Rabbis like Rabbis Gil Klaperman, Shya Lebor, Nochum Tzvi Kornmehl and many others. With the arrival of Rav Binyamin Kamenetsky in 1956 and the founding of the Yeshiva of South Shore, Jewish education was ensured a future in the Five Towns.  Of course eating is an important component of Jewish life in the region, and Central Avenue would become the home of a variety of famous eateries. Colorful personalities, philanthropists, politicians and activists all called the Five Towns home, and we'll meet some of them on this Jewish history journey into Long Island.   Subscribe To Our Podcast on:   PodBean: https://jsoundbites.podbean.com/   Follow us on Twitter or Instagram at @Jsoundbites You can email Yehuda at yehuda@yehudageberer.com

Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Podcast-In this episode we talk about a YouTube video that was being passed around recently by some click bait channel called "Company Man". The title of that video reads "The Problem Facing Harley-Davidson" and the description reads "Harley-Davidson is the biggest name in motorcycles...but they've seen better days. This video discusses the big problem they are facing." and nothing more. No, I'm not linking to that video as it's clearly biased.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE! We won't completely trash the video or the creator as it at least brings up some points for discussion, so thanks for that. Be careful with channels like this as we can't confirm the guy who made this video even rides or is involved in the motorcycle industry at all. He just took a bunch of video clips he got elsewhere online and made a voiceover with different information he found. He's likely not even qualified to speak about this issue. We think it's mostly hype about Harley-Davidson having any sort of substantial problems and we don't think they have any more than they always have. Many articles are floating around the internet on this subject, very few being credible. This has been going on for a long time and of course, Harley-Davidson is the longtime leader in the United States. Many competitors want them to go down and so this sort of propaganda floats around. That happens to every big leading company, regardless of the industry. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! We really break it down in this episode, so you'll have to listen in to find out the truths and of course our opinions. Yes, because we are actual bikers and involved in the biker industry, unlike the creator of that particular video. I'm not biased. Heck, I'd be the first to tell you if I believed Harley had any new or major issues. With that said, Harley has been changing and trying new things for some time and they'll need to continue to be very progressive to stay relevant or they will face serious problems. Clearly, Harley knows they have to step up their game and change with the times. They have several other manufacturers biting at their heels and trying to get a piece of the pie.   Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE!
