In today's episode I speak to a well respected leadership coach, The Natural Leadership Coach and host for The Game of Leadership Podcast, Paula Eddy Wilcox.  Paula and I discuss how you can regain clarity on your purpose and passion when you've lost your way, we chat about vulnerability and how being true to yourself can be frightening, we also touch on links between mental toughness, vulnerability and psychological safety too.  It's a great listen for those interested in leadership, and the business world though it does roll over to life in general and sport too. Key Learning Points: When you face challenges and you come out the other side it's important to recognise what strengths you used. Being around people who are aligned with your values aids your sense of well-being. Having the guts to show up as your true self can be daunting. Putting yourself out there, showing your true self makes you vulnerable. As you get older, a lot of people seem to care less what others think. Some elements of Mental Toughness, eg, risk orientation and interpersonal confidence will explain whether you make yourself vulnerable in different situations. A fixed mindset can prevent you from showing vulnerability. There are links with showing vulnerability and psychological safety. EditHey ya'll, it's 7 with Hard Times Strong Men. After feedback on, and review of, Episode 2 I need to address a mistake that I made. When describing the vascular system I said that your femoral artery is branched from the inferior vena cava. That is obviously false. The inferior vena cava, while part of the vascular system, is a vein. It transports deoxygenated blood from the body back to the heart. Arteries transport oxygenated blood from the heart to the body. So, to clarify and rectify; from the heart, blood travels through the abdominal aorta, branches at the iliac arteries, then to the femoral artery that I referenced, and on even farther. We always try to bring ya'll the best, most accurate information that we can. We strive to remain above reproach, but we can never be above accountability. That being said, we'll need to do a medical class here soon. As with everything, we'll start at zero and build up. Stay safe, and be better.-7Mercadante AA, Raja A. Anatomy, Arteries. Mentally tough athletes do things differently. They think, speak, and behave in a way that stands out and allows them to be confident on the court/field and in their life. Here's the deal - all athletes are guaranteed to face similar challenges.  it's part of being an athlete. But what separates the mentally tough, confident athletes from the ones that aren't is how they respond to these common experiences. Today we'll talk about 5 characteristics of mentally tough, confident athletes:#1: They Move Past Mistakes QuicklyMentally tough, confident athletes have tools to be able to move past their mistakes and be ready for the next play quickly. They know that time spent dwelling on mistakes is taking away from playing in the present moment. They have adjusted their mindset to know that mistakes are necessary for growth, have pre-rehearsed their reaction to mistakes, and can quickly move past them in the moment. #2 They Can Perform Under PressureMentally tough, confident athletes also have routines that help them play well when the stakes are high. Therefore they have the mindset that they want the ball to come to them, that they can be counted on, and they can perform through the nerves. They see nerves as excitement rather than something to avoid. #3 They Focus on What Is In Their ControlThese athletes know what is in their control and what is not and they don't waste a second ruminating on the things they have no influence over. They also stay away from complaining and complainers. What we focus on expands, so they keep their focus on their own attitude, effort, behavior, and preparation. #4 They Are Intentional With Their Self-TalkMentally tough, confident athletes know that their thoughts become their reality. They are intentional with what they say to themselves, especially when it gets hard, the pressure is on, or they are making mistakes. They have mantras and affirmations on repeat and challenge the negative thinking that comes into their mind. #5 They Are Not Afraid of Success (In Themselves and Others)Mentally tough athletes don't hold back (especially for fear that others might not like them). They don't dim their light or anyone else's. They can be seen lifting their teammates up and celebrating their successes (rather than tearing them down or talking behind their backs). Mentally tough, confident athletes don't just happen by accident.  These type of athletes also won't just develop "with time" or experience. We have to provide the opportunity for our athletes to develop these skills and build their confidence, just like any other skill in their sport. **********Helpful Links:Join our upcoming Building #RealConfidence FREE 5 Day Challenge for MomsVisit our podcast website for more on this episodeDownload the free resources we've created for youJoin us inside our FREE Facebook Group - The Elite Competitor Society - for weekly Q&A, periodic trainings and challenges, and the support of an amazing community of moms, coaches, and the men who partner with us!The BEST way to help us spread the word and get this information into the hands of millions of parents, coaches, and female athletes is by leaving a rating an**If you're looking for a way to help your athlete daughter come back from mistakes, stop beating herself up and start playing to her potential... without being pushy or worrying about what to say... join our FREE training: www.trainhergame.com**

Take a tour at: www.GoPipelinePRO.comIn a world going soft where mental toughness and resiliency is becoming a thing of the past, as a business owner, you MUST step up and buck this trend today or you will lose big in the years ahead. And most likely lose control of your organization. Not a pretty picture. We broke down how to play this game to WIN versus playing playing not to LOSE -- Big difference!IN THIS EPISODE: Here's peak inside what we covered in Episode 26: Mental toughness is about being able to persevere through hard times.Business is a lot like sports, to win or excel you must have endurance.Losses are where learning comes from. The country's current environment lends to victimhood, rather than coming out of terrible situations and overcoming mistakes.Mental toughness is about staying emotionally ‘together' through the hard times until the win.  You need a mental reserve to pull from during times where the work is tough.Pushing and forcing yourself through it all, you can start building yourself up.It takes a brick-by-brick approach, tearing away the negative self-talk and self-doubt to build up self-esteem and mental strength. You must come out of your comfort zone to build mental toughness.Building mental toughness is like preparing for retirement financially, it's tough and you have to get out of your comfort zone.Sometimes in business (and life) a coach or consultant can help to stretch your comfortableness, to challenge and build strength in uncomfortable situations. As part of mental strength, you need healthy habits to develop the momentum for mental toughness.RESOURCES:How To Raise Great Kids In a Generation of Assholes - Liz Parkinson Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds - David GogginsFollow Sales Velocity TV on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.Sales Velocity TV and Radio is sponsored by PipelinePRO, the Ultimate “All-In-One” Sales Pipeline Management & Marketing Automation Platform that makes ALL others obsolete. Mentally Tough Athletes Athletes Put the Reps In 6. Mentally Tough Athletes Are Selective About What They Allow Into Their Minds The mental toughness you work on and develop inside the gym actually has potential to translate outside of the gym as well. We hear from our members that they feel great, and see results in the gym... but that these results are also translating outside of the gym into their everyday lives. Mental Toughness isn't necessarily something you're simply born with or without, but rather something we believe can be developed through mental toughness habits.

“I can say with probably 99% [certainty], I would never be at the Games if it weren't for my mental coach.  I think I would be good but I would've gotten fourth place instead of third place at the 2014 Regionals, and who knows what would've happened after that, but I think that was the edge that I had in my training.  I was not better physically than any of the other girls there, I just performed when I had to and when the pressure was at its highest. And I think that's what kept me in the game for all these years, too. I perform at Regionals every single year.  If you looked on paper, my stats are not super good compared to a lot of the other athletes, but I am able to PR.  I've PR'd my snatch in every single Regional since I started. I am able to perform when it really, really matters. And that's the difference, that's where the mental training comes in.” - Kristin Holte   Over the last 8 years, Kristin Holte has been quietly climbing her way to the top of the CrossFit Games leaderboard. A native of Oslo, Norway, Kristin grew up in an active household and competed in a variety of sports, including gymnastics, track and field, soccer, triathlons and cross country skiing.  The work capacity and discipline she developed in her youth would help lay the groundwork for her success as a CrossFit Games athlete, where she is known to excel at endurance events and gymnastics movements. Kristin has competed at last 6 CrossFit Games, never placing outside the top 20.  After spending two years in 7th place, Kristin knew she wanted to go from good to great.  She doubled down, surrounded herself with a team of coaches, and addressed as many nuances in her training, nutrition, and recovery as possible.  The attention to detail paid off with a second place podium finish at the 2019 CrossFit Games in Madison.  Her third place finish in the 2020 CrossFit Games Open earned her an invitation to this year's Games, and Kristin is excited to return to the Ranch to continue to put her training to the test. Since qualifying for her first Regional, Kristin has also put a tremendous amount of focus into training her mind and credits her competitive edge to her mental game.  With the help of a mental coach, she has improved her confidence and her ability to perform at her best under pressure by using a variety of exercises including an intensive training camps, visualization, mantras, and more. Kristin and I first competed alongside each other at the 2014 CrossFit Games, where as a rookie she took an event win in Triple 3.  I was excited to catch up with her to learn more about her mental training game, how she continues to improve as a competitor year after year, and why she believes that when it comes to training volume and intensity, sometimes less is more.   In this episode we discuss: How Kristin's training and day-to-day life has been impacted by coronavirus Her thoughts on the CrossFit Games being hosted at the Ranch, and how she's preparing for the Rogue Invitational What it was like growing up in Norway How Kristin found CrossFit The importance of using a mental coach for her training Exercises Kristin does with her coach to improve her mental game Overcoming a lung injury and realizing the impact of her mental training Her experience making the podium at the Games Her mindset after placing second at the 2019 CrossFit Games Where Kristin is at in her recovery process from a wrist surgery for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome The factors that have played into her ability to improve every year The key people on Kristin's team Why she uses a nutritionist even though she's a nutritionist herself How she's preserving her longevity in the sport Her proudest CrossFit accomplishments What Kristin enjoys when she's not training Her outlook for her career and future Three things Kristin does on a regular basis that have the biggest positive impact on her health One thing she thinks could have a big impact on her health, but she has a hard time implementing What a healthy life looks like to Kristin You can follow Kristin on Instagram and Facebook.
