Judge Marilea Lewis joins us on today's show! Judge Lewis served on the Dallas bench for 25 years, and is now a partner at the family law boutique Duffee + Eitzen. Judge Lewis talks about the importance of preparation, how to impress a judge, and finding the right side of the confidence/arrogance line. Her firm/practiceBoard certified in family law (for 25 years)Small boutique firm almost completely family law; the firm also does a little school lawPractices with her son Hunter LewisDuring the pandemic many people have spent more time together than usual, which hasn't always gone wellWaiting to see what the legislative changes are and the impact of the changes to the discovery rulesIn the past, 194 disclosures and accompanying documents might have taken 60-90 days, but now having to do it within 30 days of the answer being filed is significantJudges have adapted so easily to Zoom, which has been a big assist to the docketing systemIn-person hearings are supposed to start soon, and in-person jury trials could begin again as early as July (though criminal cases will happen first)Tarrant and Denton are a little ahead of that paceLooking ahead, some judges are going to handle prove ups and short motions will continue to be done by ZoomShe has learned how to marshal the evidence and managed her time betterAdvice for lawyers in practicePreparation is keyshe sees attorneys who aren't as prepared as they could besometimes that can be a financial issue, but there is still a level of prep required before heading into the courtroomfacts thoroughly fleshed outThe practice area and the law is always changing, so important to be aware of thatNeed to be familiar with the current case lawIf you argue something that has been reversed or refined, it doesn't impress anyoneDon't make frivolous arguments; make your best argument and then stop; if you have nothing to say then sit down! Please don't argue with the court...."with all due respect your honor..."Don't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!Important to get the court to rule. From there you can take steps as the attorney to mitigate, appeal, etc.The best way to build a client base is through word of mouth (i.e. satisfied clients who refer you to someone else)manage client expectationsadvise client wellalso getting involved in community and organizations and invest your timeWhen you are doing good work for clients you are doing business developmentAdvice for lawyers who are lateralingDemonstrate people skills in your resume/cover letter; what have you been involved with?Strong academics are great, but that's a very small percentage of people. So she wants to see someone who shows a commit to the area of practice, and learning that practiceShe has seen strong letters from 5+ year attorneys who haven't practiced family law but communicate a clear change in directionFamily law is not an area most lawyers want to go in, so it is important to show that interest/desire. Great story from years ago about a firm partner who wanted to hire her into the firm to start their family law practice because she was a woman.Be on time for a job interview!Don't come into a full-time position interview wanting to work 20-30 hours. It's okay to ask about policies in a general sense and expectations the firm has of their associates.Be prepared to answer questions about why you should be a candidate for consideration.Giving an indication that you might not stay very long is a red flag, and it also becomes apparent in the work product (leaving every day at 5:30 on the clock; don't volunteer to help out on a project; they are marking time; don't get involved in making decisions and contributing)Final thoughts/wordsThere is a fine line between projecting confidence and being arrogant. Be on the side of confidence! Ask someone you trust to tell you the truth.Everybody has something to offer; focus on your strength.Rapid Fire QuestionsName one trait/characteristic you most want to see in an associate: honestyWhat habit has been key to your success: tenacityFavorite app/productivity tool: ZoomThe first item you would list on the interest section of your resume: Family and DancingFavorite legal movie: To Kill A Mockingbird / Movie Verdicts episodeThanks again to Judge Marilea Lewis for coming on the show!
Alignment Abundance Authenticity are key areas of spiritual awareness and understanding and we need to get these right be able to use them in the right way, which means that they work in our lives to our benefit instead of to our detriment. How can these spiritual principles operate to our detriment?Let me explain:1. When we do not know how they work all of the time instead of working in ‘good’ ways. Universal energy is non-judgmental, there is no good or bad. It is all neutral or equal, there is no better or worse, more or less. 2. When we make judgments about what these concepts represent rather than understanding them as universal principles and then criticize and judge ourselves for not being able to meet these high universal standards. 3. When we try to skip over steps in our healing and growth process and try to negotiate with the Universe to get ahead or to make our lives better in some way by trying to implement these spiritual principles in the wrong way. For example, thinking that focusing on manifesting a better life will succeed even if we do not believe it is possible for us. Let’s talk about AlignmentAlignment means things are lined up and working togetherWe think alignment exists in good ways, we are out of alignment when things are not going so wellThe truth is we are always aligned with everything in our life, all of the timeWhen we want something different we have to create new level of alignment with new energy. Unless we change the energy our alignment keeps moving forward, in the same direction, in the same way. When we feel stuck we’re out of alignment with our current reality and in the process of bringing in new energy to create a new one, we’re in an energy gap and we’re not aligned with anything, which gives us a feeling of being stuck, can’t move forward, and we’re unsure of what to do next. The worse thing we can do in this case is to think we have done something wrong or are being punished. We are not, we’re just in an energy gap, in a space between two different levels of alignment The keys to understanding alignment are:1. You’re always aligned with everything in your life all of the time. There is no better or worse alignment.2. When you’re ready for a new level of alignment with new energies nothing feels right or works for you.3. A new level of alignment is created by setting a new intention for your life and reality and then bringing in the energy to allow it to happen.4. Surrender to the alignment that is now out of synch with you and prepare for something new to create a new level of alignment.Stop judging and criticizing yourself for being ‘out of alignment’ whenever things go wrong or you think you’re not doing things right because they are not working. Let’s talk about AbundanceSo much misunderstanding about abundance because we think it means only good thingsWe have abundance when we have money, freedom, good things, and blessings and if we don’t then we have no abundance. But we always have abundance in everythingThe universal law of abundance states ‘there is abundance in all things’You can have an abundance of problems, bad health, money issues, sadness, and unhappinessYou can have an abundance of joy, love, laughter, miracles, and things you really likeThere is always unlimited abundance in your life – to change the kind of flow you have to change the kind of abundance you are manifesting which means to change your alignment The keys to understanding abundance are:1. Understand that abundance exists in all things, everywhere, all of the time2. You connect with, attract, and receive the kind of abundance that resonates with your own energy frequency3. Whatever you have a lot of in your life exists in abundance4. Changing your level of abundance depends on your own energy frequency and vibration – abundance follows beliefs and beliefs create alignment There are two keys to abundance:1. In a universe that exists in unlimited abundance there can be no concept of lack, where there is nothing. Unlimited abundance is unlimited abundance. 2. The opposite of abundance is not lack, it is limitation. So if your life is not feeling abundant in ways that you want, it is not because there is nothing there for you, it’s because you are limiting the flow of the kind of abundance you want into your life Let’s talk about AuthenticityAuthenticity is the state of being genuine or real, it is not a state of honesty, morality, or good behaviorWhen we say someone is not being authentic that is not true – they are being themselves – we are always being exactly who we areIn this case, that person is not in alignment with our beliefs about honesty, morality, or good behavior – that does not make then not authentic, it makes them themselvesWe spend too much time thinking we have to be authentic – we are always authentic, just like we always have abundance and we are always aligned with what is in our reality They keys to authenticity are1. Everyone is always their authentic self, at all times. Authenticity is not a measure of goodness, kindness, compassion, spirituality, or understanding.2. The only way to be truly authentic is to be yourself at all times3. Who we are changes over time, as we heal, learn, and grow and become more self aware we change our level of authenticity to reflect our self awareness but we are always authentic throughout that process4. We cannot spend time judging our authenticity just as we cannot spend time criticizing others because their authenticity conflicts with what we think is good or acceptable behaviorWe need to look for alignment and not judge others’ authenticity. The person who lies to you, cheats on you, and steals from you is being their authentic self – they are a liar, cheater, and a thief. Instead of judging them ask yourself what it is in you that has chosen to align with that kind of person and look within yourself to do the healing you need to choose people who are more honorable, respectful, and trustworthy.Alignment, Abundance, and authenticity are powerful spiritual principles that govern our use of energy and how we can live in an empowered, powerful way. When we use these spiritual principles in alignment with our soul priorities and our highest potential, they become the keys to joyful, joy-filled living.

Everything is giving permission or taking permission away. We cannot build externally that which has not been built internallyThe work of radical self-love is the work of recognizing where the system is moving inside of the relationship with myself and where the system is moving inside of everyone else. The way to undo the system is to stop participating in it. What are my thoughts? What are the things that I don’t let myself consciously think about? There is a message in absence Am I willing to learn a new language?Am I willing to learn a new language when I know that language is hurting someone?Recognize in your anger that we are both individuals and products of a system. We are both and. Hold Humans inside of compassion, curiosity and accountability. Hold systems to taskHate requires too much of my own personal energy. I reserve my hate for systemsI’m not interested in tearing down humans. I’m interested in tearing down systems that those humans are in. Love and care require intimacy Inside of our own relationships with our own bodies we must get deeply intimate. There is no way to love and care for things unless you are willing to get intimate with Animals are never self-loathingTransition from this form, you can’t loss someone because energy is neither created nor destroyedMother is greatest love and greatest heartbreakDeath is birth in reverseGrief never leavesHow beautiful the transitioned relationship can be. Our ancestors are key to how we move through these systems of oppression: Epigenetics. If we pass on trauma we pass on resilience Our relationship with our ancestors is essential for our healingWe must look behind to go forward. You can have fun and get to know ppl within certain parametersBecause it is structured/organized and often only done at the beginning, it can feel inauthentic even if you do the hard work of being vulnerableThis exposes the separation in our culture that we often experience at work - we hide many aspects of our “true” selves at work, and so are guarded in circumstances that demand we “truly get to know each other” - does that desire exist elsewhere outside of this meeting where we are doing icebreakers? How?From “Reinventing Organizations” - our soul can be shy, especially when around other people, and if we think about our true selves (soul) as a wild animal hiding to see if it’s safe to come out, you do not go barreling through the woods yelling after it, which is what icebreakers feel like to Dan. “Unfortunately in our culture, we too often go crashing through the woods together as a means to build community quickly...under these conditions, the intellect, emotions, will, and ego may emerge, but not the soul; we scare off all the soulful things, like respectful relationships, goodwill, and hope.” (which are v important components of community)How to Do BetterSimilar to our episode on teambuilding, getting to know one another should be embedded in every culture. Creating a space of safety, collaboration and wholeness is an ongoing, everyday process that is not accomplished with icebreakers. So, how do we center humanity and get to know one another at conferences/new meetings/workshops without icebreakers? What’s the alternative? What you are looking for is Check In/Check Out QuestionsWhat is the result of your meeting?Relationships/Resources/ResultThere is power in questions, be intentional about the questions that you ask and why you choose them. They should serve a specific purpose to the time that you are spending together.Check-In Question ExamplesRelationships:What name do you prefer people call you?How are you feeling today? (feel free to project the feelings inventory)What is one thing that brought you joy today?Resources Check In Questions:What is your learning style? What is one thing, if people knew it, could help them work with you? What do you need to do make this meeting valuable to you? Results:What would it look like if this meeting were successful? If a miracle happened, what would you accomplish here today?Check-Out Question Examples:Relationships:In one word or short phrase, how are you feeling right now? What have you appreciated about our time together?Resources:What knowledge, insight, or wisdom have you gained from our time together today? What will you do differently based on the work here today? What worked? What didn’t work? What would you have done differently? Results:On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the progress of this meeting towards our meeting result?Rate progress on each meeting result: high, medium, lowWhat is your next step? What is one commitment you can make?Bottom line: keep your questions simple and relevant to whatever you are spending your time together onA note on small groupsIf you break your attendees into small groups, take note on the level of vulnerability expressed in the check-in questions if you can. Do not put your group in a situation to discuss highly vulnerable subjects the first few times that they meet. Trust takes time.MODEL the vulnerability you would like to seeEnsure the group knows that it is an invitation, and if they can’t think of something/aren’t prepared to share they can say they would like to pass for nowGive people both something to strive for and empower them with choiceOngoing Community buildingIcebreakers are a technical tool, and in a way so are check-in/out questions. Welcome back to another episode of Liberty Revealed, the show dedicated to revealing personal liberty to all who listen. I am your host, Mike Mahony, and today I want to talk to you about the importance of continuing the fight for liberty. The election is over. At least that is what the media has said. Donald Trump clearly has another opinion.Whatever you think about the outcome of the election, one thing is very clear-- we libertarians need to continue the fight for liberty. We must be diligent and do this starting now. We cannot wait until it is an election year. That just doesn’t give us the time to spread the word.I am proposing that libertarians start campaigning now for liberty. The democrats have been very successful by taking control of local elections. They do this by having small democrat clubs that help with donations and campaign volunteers when a candidate surfaces for a given office.Anyone who has run for office as a libertarian will tell you that the sound of crickets is deafening when you ask for volunteers. There is just something about libertarian thinking that creates a selfish attitude. I’ve heard people proclaim that they won’t help because the candidate has no chance of winning. Well, without help, that’s exactly correct.Running a political campaign takes a lot of time, energy, and money. Want to see libertarians in office? Then do like the two corrupt major parties and work together to make it happen. My plan is very simple and will work if libertarians just embrace the concept that the fight for liberty isn’t just happening during election years.Local chapters should look up what cities have city council vacancies coming up. They should then seek to find 1 or 2 candidates who would be interested in filling those vacancies. Pay special attention to school board races because they are very winnable and they get our candidate the “incumbent” tag later when it counts.I am then suggesting that local chapters should form smaller groups throughout their larger geographic areas. These groups can help source potential local candidates. They can help with fundraising. They can be an army of volunteers. This aspect of my plan is huge. Local coordination broken into smaller chunks is going to be more effective. The big move our chapters need to make is finding businesses that are friendly to our cause. We must ask them to donate to our campaign war chest fund. Rather than wait for individual candidates to run for a given position, let’s recruit donations from liberty-friendly businesses right away. Let’s point to the positions we want to fill and then let’s get some money from them. Imagine how much easier it would be to recruit candidates if the recruitment call included the statement “...we will be able to give you $10,000 to fund your campaign right away”? Imagine having the money to put out advertisements for recruiting volunteers? By tackling two of the biggest hurdles a candidate faces, the party is setting the candidates up for success. Fundraising is something that should never stop. As an organization, we tend to rely too much on membership dues and small donations. We need to approach small businesses. They are the most affected by strangling regulations. They would welcome the libertarian approach to government and commerce. Let’s show them we are the only party that is completely business-friendly.To summarize, we need to:Identify positions we want to targetForm small local groups that can help spread the wordRecruit candidates Approach businesses for donationsFundraise all the timeWhen we can have all of this run like a well-oiled machine, we will be making real progress.Tell me your thoughts on this by leaving a voicemail on the Yogi’s Podcast Network hotline at (657) 529-2218.That’s it for this episode of Liberty Revealed. .If you like what you’ve heard, please rate us 5 stars on Apple Podcasts and Google Play. Peak performance is a term we often hear in refernece to sports but it is a term that can be applied to life and business. It is when we execute at our highest level. Bpundaries need to be tested and stretched in order for us to reach our peak performance. Also, our peak performance can and will change as we grow and come in contact with life's circumstances. This is why this episode is such a powerful one. After being considered brain dead and paralyzed by a car accident, Lindsey started at square one in order to reach her pek performance. "Master your mindset and balance your life through self care, self worth and self discipline" Peak Performance begins when you cn be honest about where you are and where you want to go. For Lindsey that meant learning to walk and talk again after waking up a week after her accident. This is not the moment when many would be focused on peak performance. This would normally be the moment when people focus on just survival. Survival is necessary but thriving is where peak performance sets in. It is a daily fight to achieve our greatest life...our greatest business...our greatest relationship. Lindsey's nuggets:~ God has a greater plan ~ There won't always be someone to blame when things happen in your life~ You always have a choice~ Make a commitment to the choice that you make ~ You can'[t focus on the negative and positive at the same time~ The thought may be immediate but the process takes timeWhen you make the decision to fight for something greater you are testing your current boundaries. It may be a physical boundary or a mental boundary. Either way, you will be pushing against opinions, facts, and emotion driven thoughts. You are not alone in that. You may even have people who are close to you saying things that they believe is the best option for you. Reaching your peak performance will test those close to you just as much as it will test you. In this moment you may need to strengthen boundaries and value the word "no". Oh, and yes, sometimes you will even need to say "no" to yourself. Self discipline is valuable. In this episode of the Wild Soul Confidential Tonya gets candid on why she walks in in the woods and why it is important to sit, be silenient and listen. There’s a sense of belonging in the forest - so much to gain in terms of how we relate to life, each other, our sense of righteousness in the world… but in the forest everything means everything and nothing at the same time. 3 things we’re talking about feeling of belonging Feeling of greatness and smallness at the same timeWhen nature shows itself to you There’s a fierceness and a gentleness to nature - things are both fierce in their survival and gentle in the reality of how easy and precious life is. Nature is both brutal in it’s death and it’s unrelenting survival of the fittest, it’s recovery and moving on and amazing in it’s interconnectedness, the respect and how every little tiny thing has a job, a purpose, a meaning. Humans have a tendency to look on nature as a nuisance but nature is truly our home. The more disconnected we are from nature the more disconnected we are from truth. We have no idea what our world does for us. The reason the earth is sick is because humans are disconnected and we’re sick because we’re disconnected. We have no idea of our true place in nature and how we have become a dominator, a taker instead of participant in life. We are on the earth but really we are of the earth as much as the ant we step on, disregarding it’s place in the web of life. Trees speak. There is a wisdom that tells the truth son the ages and truths to come. When you sit in the woods with trees, breathe in the truth, purpose, problems shrink, and purpose magnifies. When we sit with trees we gain access to wisdom that lives within us that normally we can’t hear in the noise of the day to day life, with everything on bust and we’re overcorrected but we’re truly connected in the forest.

This week we are joined by Jordan's son Michael who has been diagnosed with Autism. He has been celebrating Autism awareness month and been begging to come on to talk about his experience. He has a heart to show the world what his "normal" looks like, and has a desire to encourage those with Autism to celebrate it with him. The theme these year for Autism Awareness Month is #CelebrateDifferences and that is what he has been doing! Many questions were asked, and many weren't, but we had a good time discussing his experience and things that he has learned on this journey. Many women desire a healthy relationship with a man that is caring, handsome, honest and romantic. We end up meeting men who we believe will do these things and some appear to have everything that we ever wanted. However, as time pass, we realize that this handsome man is different from what we envisioned. His true colors are showing and now you are weighing your options... should you stay all to tell others "you got a man at home"? Or, should you leave with your dignity and start all over again with someone else? 1. When you are miserableYou love this African man but something about him makes you miserable and you can't put your finger on what exactly it is. I have been in this situation before and I figured out that it was because this dude was not dating me properly. I was trying to make the relationship what I wanted it to be instead of seeing it for what it was which was a dead end. I had to break it off for my own happiness. 2. You make crazy excuses for this man all the timeWhen this African guy is doing something insane, you find yourself having to explain to folks why he did what he did. I had an associate that would always have to apologize and explain to folks why her man was a rude head. I also had to apologize to people when my 1st son's father acted like an ass hole in public. Big mistake. 3. You can't be you/he can't understandYou love this African man but the thing is, he doesn't get you and he doesn't even try to understand your feelings. When you talk to him about something, he brushes it off. Example: After sex, you tell him that you didn't like something he did and you wanted it another way. He then complains and turns the blame back on you. Little situations that you want to talk about to improve the relationship he doesn't want to hear it. Y'all is arguing over and over about the same old things. 4. He is too bossy and refuses to change for the betterNow, you had the talk with him concerning growth and what you envision and he despises it. You want to go back to school and get a better job whereas instead of encouraging you, he is sitting back secretly hating on you. He wants to be better than you and doesn't understand teamwork in a relationship. He is also becoming to argumentive, a pain or super disrespectful. You are no longer really enjoying his presence. 5. You envy other healthy relationshipsYou see the men in these relationships dating their women properly and taking her out and showering them with gifts and you get jealous. Or you see that the man really loves this woman and you are now wondering why this isn't happening to you. Sis, it is time to discover a man that really loves you because once you are in true love, you won't worry about what the next woman and man are doing. 6. You are doing everything You find yourself having to plan date nights and even foot the bill most of the time for vacations. You also see that you have to practically get on him for his lack of thought for ya'll relationship. He fails to show you that you are truly loved by him. He stops putting in effort and commitment. 7. Your gut is screaming/things are looking grimYou frequently question (in your mind) why are you both together and deeply hope for a change. You aren't as happy as you use to be. You can also see that you have changed but not in the best ways. I have seen a situation where the lady has taken on a lot of the guy's negative behavior and ended up very depressed and saddened in the end. He is damaging you for the next man.... leave him asap! Some ladies stay in bad relationships or even situationships for a long time and if you are one that is in one... you should sit down and write out the pros and cons of staying in this relationship. I realized that by writing down stuff in my journal, it gives me a better perspective of everything. Are you staying because he is really handsome? Love sex? He's the breadwinner? You live with him? Whatever the reason is, work towards a plan to leave him alone and be very careful with how you handle this because a lot of men, in general, don't like it when their woman is leaving and may retaliate. I see this a lot on Fatal Attraction and ID. Awesome Treat Yo Self Categories-Go on a walk -Read a book before bed-Close your laptop by a certain point every nightCrappy treat yo self Categories-Screw my budget I will impulse spend $500 at target-Screw my workout I am just going to go home instead-I'm going to buy starbucks or lunch out bc i was late and didn't prepare ahead of timeWhen we act out of a place of instant gratification (like children), we think we are adding to our happiness, but in reality, these aren't actually helping our bigger picture goals. New Treat Yo Self-investing a higher percentage in your retirement-planning out a shopping spree & then taking one-taking a planned rest day from working out-planning out what you'll spend at starbucks & then buying itI want to reiterate that wanting something and buying it isn't a bad thing, but often times this "treat yo self" movement isn't actually treating you long term, it's just a glorified way to say self-sabotaging. Make a list of the things you do when you treat yo self & see which ones are actually you self-sabotaging. Create a new PLANNED OUT, self-advancing, exciting and guilt-free way of treating yourself instead. It's not treating yourself if afterwards you feel sluggish, guilty or mad at yourself. Treating ourselves should be a part of our planned out spending and our planned out activities. So, friend, treat yourself in a way that actually treats yourself.

Sometimes you know you should be doing something but you just don't feel like it. It's tough to form new habits when we've spent a lifetime doing things a certain way. Here are the headlines:Combine activities to make the most of your timeWhen talking to strangers, a few set phrases can be very useful for starting conversationsTurn it into a game - can you make a stranger laugh? It's not about you. It's about the world.Ask people questions.Know why you're doing something. If you know why, you'll go through a bit of discomfort for a potential great result.---- This week's links ----[1] Michael’s new video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV8wdrEVEmc [2] Thinknation - https://thinknation.co/ [3] The Marvellous Mrs Maisel - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06X95VRRQ [4] Good and Kind - goodandkind.org [5] Positive News - https://www.positive.news/ [6] Meat or Two Veg on BBC - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-46459714/comments [7] Pineapple Project - women’s finances - https://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/the-pineapple-project/ [8] Countries for Winners; Countries for Losers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbpY-2nOYRI [9] Podcast on Universal Basic Income - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/waking-up-with-sam-harris/id733163012?mt=2&i=1000414084329 ---- Credits ----Music by http://michaelforrestmusic.comTalking is by Ivanka Majic and Michael Forrest---- Follow us on Twitter ----https://twitter.com/ivankahttps://twitter.com/michaelforresthttps://twitter.com/PodcastGrand---- Grand Podcast Library ----Find links to everything we've mentioned on the podcast at http://grandpodcast.com/library---- Find us on Facebook ----https://www.facebook.com/grandpodcast See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,Too little to be among the clans of Judah,From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago,From the days of eternity.”3 Therefore He will give them up until the timeWhen she who is in labor has borne a child. Then the remainder of His brethrenWill return to the sons of Israel.4 And He will arise and shepherd His flockIn the strength of the Lord,In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God.And they will remain,Because at that time He will be greatTo the ends of the earth.5 This One will be our peace.
