For The Lonely, For The Ashamed, The Misunderstood, And The Ones To BlamePsalm 102:1-2, 6-7, 27-28 “Hear my prayer, Lord; let my cry for help come to you. Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. … I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins. I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof. … But you remain the same, and your years will never end. The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you.”Today's prayer point is to pray for those with a spirit of loneliness. It surprises me how we can live in an age with so much technology and yet have so many people who feel lonely. It is easier than ever to stay in touch with people. When my mom and dad were dating, my dad joined the military. They would write each other letters and then have to wait for them to arrive in the mail. Now, you can send an email, and the other person can get it instantly. You can also send a text message on your cell phone; you can send a Facebook message, an Instagram message, a Snapchat message, and so many more messages that people will get immediately. Our teens are on their phones all day, every day, and they are on social media often. They have hundreds of friends online, and yet they feel so alone. I was talking to someone the other day who said she can be in a room full of people yet feel alone. Why is this?It is because that is how the enemy wants us to feel. He wants us to feel alone so that we pull away even more. He wants us to feel like no one will understand what we are going through and no one likes us. He wants us to feel like we are different, don't fit in, and are awkward. He whispers these things in our ears even when we are in a room full of people. That way, we don't take a risk and meet someone new. He persuades us not to talk about what we are going through for fear of judgment because he knows if we talk about it, we will find others going through the same thing, and then we won't feel so alone.Even though we have more ready access to communication, it is not meaningful communication. My kids have Snapchat, where you send messages, which they call snaps, back and forth to each other. The app has a streak system to count the days you “snap” back and forth with each contact. The kids obsess about getting and keeping these streaks. In theory, this might be good as it motivates the kids to stay in contact with their friends. However, they aren't actually writing anything important. They can snap a photo of the wall, the ceiling, or the floor and send that. So, it is not actual communication; it is just something to keep the streak going. I think this is why they feel so alone. They see how many “friends” they have on social media, yet most don't know them. There has been a song in my head all morning since I read what the prayer point for today was. The song is called God Only Knows by For King and Country. I want to go over the lyrics with you. It begins with:Wide awake while the world is sound asleep andToo afraid of what might show up while you're dreamingNobody, nobody, nobody sees youNobody, nobody would believe youThis is what the enemy tries to get us to believe. He convinces us that we can't talk to anyone about our feelings because they won't believe us. And sometimes our loved ones can make us feel this way. It is hard when a loved one tells you they feel all alone and depressed. If they are good at hiding it, we might disagree with or downplay it. We might say they will be fine. We might tell them things will be ok and that they need some sleep. We might tell them things aren't as bad as they think. We might tell them they have nothing to be sad about. I am not saying these are things we should say; I am saying these are things we do say at times, and they don't help the situation. They make the person feel more misunderstood and alone. If someone comes to you and tells you they are sad, lonely, or depressed, then they have probably been suffering in silence for a long time before coming to you. Do all you can to take them seriously and get them the professional help they need.Every day, you try to pick up all the piecesAll the memories, they somehow never leave youNobody, nobody, nobody sees youNobody, nobody would believe youThose who are lonely and afraid try each morning to pretend they are fine. They try to get out of bed and put on a happy face so no one knows what they feel inside. They do their best to smile while around others. However, inside, they still have all the bad memories of what happened. They still have all those negative voices from the enemy telling them they aren't good enough, don't fit in, and don't measure up. They truly feel like nobody sees them, and nobody would believe them.God only knows what you've been throughGod only knows what they say about youGod only knows how it's killing youBut there's a kind of love that God only knowsThis is what we need to help our loved ones understand. God sees them. God knows what they have been through. He knows how they feel. God knows the depths of what they are going through, and He is there for them. We need to help them realize they are never alone. God is with them now, then, and forever. There was never a time when God wasn't with them, and there will never be a time when He is not there. They can always talk to Him, and He will always listen. They can invite Him into any situation. You keep a cover over every single secretSo afraid if someone saw them, they would leaveBut somebody, somebody, somebody sees youSomebody, somebody will never leave youGod sees them. God sees you. If you are listening to this and know exactly what I am talking about because you feel like you could be the person in this song, I want you to know that God sees you. That God will never leave you. He knows what you are going through. He hears you crying out, and He is working on your situation. He is right there by your side. We learned in Encounter School of Ministry that we can ask God to show us where He is right now. You can ask Him where He was during a particular memory. You can ask Him how He is loving you right now. You can ask God anything you want to ask Him, and if you are willing to listen, He will answer. For the lonely, for the ashamedThe misunderstood and the ones to blameWhat if we could start over?We could start overWe could start over. This part is great because it asks if we could start over. What if we could begin again? What if we did things differently? What if we spoke up? What if we didn't pretend we were fine? What if we let people in? How would things be different? It is also a great question for those of us who have loved ones who are lonely, feel ashamed, misunderstood, and the ones to blame. What if we could start over, too? What if we believed them? What if we supported them? What if we got them the professional help they needed? What if we loved them through all of it?God only knows where to find youGod only knows how to break throughGod only knows the real youThere's a kind of love that God only knowsThis last part is really important. God knows where to find you. You are never hidden from God. You may not want Him to see you. You may not want to share your innermost thoughts with Him, but nothing is hidden from God. He sees them, and He is crying with you. God knows how to break through to you and how you can break through the darkness to the light. Turn to Him, ask Him. If it is a loved one in the darkness, ask Him to give you the wisdom and knowledge to help your loved one break through. God is the answer!! God knows the real you. The enemy will try to get you to believe lies about yourself. He will try to convince you that God couldn't love you. That God couldn't forgive you. That God doesn't like you. These are all lies. You are a beloved son or daughter of God, and He loves, forgives, and likes you. He knows the real you. Not the you that you show everyone else, the real you. Who you are down deep inside. He knows the real you and loves all of you!Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we ask you to touch all the hearts of those listening today. Lord, we ask you to reach out in a special way to the lonely today. Lord, fill their hearts with love. Help them feel your presence today, Lord. Help them to see the lies the enemy has been telling them. Help them to know that you are with them and that they are never alone. Help them to see that it is never too late to start again. Help them know how loved they are. Lord, we ask you to show their loved ones how to be there for them. Show their loved ones what to say and how to support them. We need you, Lord; they need you, Lord!! We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name. Amen!!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. Reminder: tomorrow is mentoring day. If you want to join, you can go to my website, walkboldlywithjesus.com, or click the link in the show notes. I hope to see some of you tomorrow night, Tuesday, at 8 P. M. EST. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you, and so do I! Have a blessed day!Today's Word from the Lord is in the form of an image someone received. “I saw a large pit, and thousands and thousands of people were around that pit. We, as believers, were surrounding the people who were headed for the pit, and we were trying to convince them not to go there. Not to go there. So, every prayer we say, every lifting up of a soul that we do, we actually turn them around and bring them back to the Lord instead of falling into the pit. No matter what you do, if it's a phone call if it's saying hello to somebody, you change their hearts in mind just by being in their presence because you are His disciples. So your presence is Magnificat to those who have fallen.”

Det här är berättelsen om Australiens genom tiderna största popstjärna, den korta tjejen med det breda leendet som som fick sin första hit redan 1987 och som år 2023 återigen toppar listorna. Lyssna på alla avsnitt i Sveriges Radio Play. Royal Albert Hall, London. – Well I did not expect to be here, but I have come with words that I did not write, which I shall read to you.Publiken vet inte riktigt vad dom ska tro när den australiensiska popstjärnan Kylie Minogue, som dominerat det sena 80-talet och tidiga 90-talet med sin tuggummipop, kliver ut på scenen.– In my imagination there is no complicationI dream about you all the timeIn my mind a celebration, the sweetest of sensationThinking you could be mineI gröna träningsoverallsbyxor börjar en osminkad och kortklippt Kylie, med glimten i ögat, recitera en av sina första hitlåtar.– I'm dreaming, you fell in love with me like I'm in love with youBut dreaming's all I do if only they'd come trueI should be so luckyLucky, lucky, luckyI should be so lucky in loveKylie tar förvånat emot dom exalterade applåderna och ler. 143. Lessons On Anxiety From Stevie Nicks

The Anxious Morning

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 29, 2022 4:02

It’s the end of July already, so it’s time for a guest writer on The Anxious Morning. Today we’ll hear from someone actively engaged in the recovery process. Lindsey is doing the work right now. She’s struggling through challenges and doing her best to surf through hard days to learn the lessons she needs to learn. She’s gaining ground and making good progress. When she told me about this little lesson she learned from an old Fleetwood Mac song, I asked if she would be willing to share this bit of wisdom and insight on The Anxious Morning. I’m so happy she agreed to do it!How can Stevie Nicks, one of the greatest singers and songwriters of our time help you with your anxiety? Just hear me out. I recently took a writing course that focused on songwriters. While studying Stevie Nicks, one story in particular about the song, “Landslide,” stopped me in my tracks. If you haven’t listened to the song, you should do that now. And if you are familiar with it, you, like most people, probably assumed it was about love – love with a man, love with a woman, love with a parent, love with a child – love with someone. What if I told you it was never about loving someone else? What if I told you it was written about loving herself, about loving her art, about not giving up on her own dreams? Landslide was written about one poignant moment - a moment in Colorado with her guitarist and then boyfriend, Lindsey Buckingham. Their first band, Buckingham Nicks, had flopped - the band she had given up everything for – and she and Lindsey had gone to Colorado to get away. Faced with having to quit singing and give up her dreams, she looked up at the “snow-covered hills” and Stevie said to Lindsey, “we’re going to the top of that mountain.” With not a dime to their names, she told him in that moment, she wasn’t giving up. And within one year, they were Fleetwood Mac. You know the rest of the story. It got me thinking about my anxiety journey. About all the times I white knuckled through large crowds. Grocery runs. Endless doctors’ appointments. Those days when I was sweaty and dizzy on long highway drives with crying babies in the backseat, looking for the nearest exit. I was always pushing through to appease someone else - my husband, my boss, my kids - to make everyone around me believe I was ok. But I wasn’t ok. And years of talk therapy didn’t fix the panic attacks. Nothing did. Nothing worked until my reason and my why became me. It never worked until I decided not to give up, until I loved myself enough to chase my own dreams and climb to the top of the mountain for me. Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?Well, I’ve been afraid of changin’‘Cause I’ve built my life around youBut time makes you bolderEven children get olderAnd I’m getting older tooOh! I’m getting older too. – Stevie Nicks, Landslide We don’t get unlimited time to be who we want to be and do what we want to do. Love yourself enough to go climb that mountain today for you. Take it from Stevie. Don’t give up. Don’t spend all of your time trying to FIND yourself. Spend your time CREATING yourself into a person that you’ll be proud of. - Sonya ParkerEvery Friday I’ll share one of my favorite quotes. They’ll often have direct application in recovery, but sometimes they’re just generally funny, inspiring, or thought-provoking.  I hope you enjoy them This is a public episode. Stiff Necked This is Steve and welcome back to another segment of Press On. This called Stiff Necked.Usually every morning I wake up with a sniff neck and body because of arthritis i and of course theres that thing called gravity and age.Ive often complained that I "feel like the tin man" from the wizard of Oz caught in a rain storm without an oil can. In Micah 6:8 God answers the Jewish people regarding what he wants from them: He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of youBut to do justice, to love kindness (mercy), And to walk humbly with your God?God was clear about what was important to Him and it wasn't their ritualistic practices it was the attitude of their hearts and in this He wanted them to walk humbly with God.So what does humility and being stiff necked have to do with each other...they are the polar opposites. Throughout the OT God often referred to the Jews as stiff necked people this was figure of speech when describing the attitude of Israel toward God.The term stiff necked was originally used to describe an ox that refused to be directed by the farmer…it refused to turn the head or was very slow in order to take a different path.Sound familiar...perhaps it should. Pride, arrogance, and yes being stiff necked exist in abundance first in our own heart, particularly my own, Yet God Identifies it as an obstacle in walking with Him.Jesus in the sermon on the mount brings attention to it when he said “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. This was not about material possessions He was speaking to spiritual realities: He always did: To be poor in spirit is to recognize our utter spiritual bankruptcy before God.There is much more to this story but for today think about this Unlike this world in Gods economy humility is not a weakness its a strength, and more than that the kingdom of God is only accessible when our hearts our right before God.This is Steve and until we meet again Press ON See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I am going to read Psalm 118 to youBut first, I’ll say something about this poem– it was written by one person• that’s obvious from the singular personal pronoun in first 24 verses• we’ll hear other voices — perhaps a priest giving a benediction◦ and the poet will speak for the whole congregation of worshipers◦ but he will return to his own voice at the end of the psalm– the reason I’m pointing this out,• is because many biblical scholars now see it as a liturgical composition◦ that is to say, an outline for a service of worship in the temple• but even if the poem became that, it began with one person,◦ who went through a terrifying ordeal◦ then after God brought him through it he was inspired to give thanks

Today’s Scripture reading comes from Micah 6:8, quoting from the NASB: “He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of youBut to do justice, to love kindness,And to walk humbly with your God?” How does God speak justice, mercy and humility to you? The issue of Micah 6:8 was that God’s people wanted to know how to placate God. They seemingly wanted to offer Him what did not require a change of heart or compassion on their part. God rejected their offer of materialism and issued His precise requirements of man: to do justice, to love mercy and to be humble. Service done in God’s name is best received when done with a compassionate heart and sincere concern. The people of Micah’s day erred through ingratitude to God, religious pretense, dishonesty, idolatry and the like. The same could be said for the sin of choice today. In view of God’s requirement for justice, mercy, and humility, what does it mean to practice these on a daily basis at home and on the job? Within the confines of a close knit, selfless community, it is not a stretch for leaders and subordinates to express selfless love for those they serve alongside. Let’s face it, when a leader goes out of his or her way to ensure compliance with safety directives and take extra steps to discourage illegal or potentially harmful behavior, that leader is not only practicing justice but is also demonstrating love and sincere concern. The practice of upholding standards discourages one from straying, thus avoiding unwanted consequences. Humility helps the servant leader find balance between justice and mercy. The reminder of God’s requirements to do justice, love kindness and to walk humbly with Him suggests that the people were doing the opposite. Consider the opposing actions to his instructions: lack of justice would result in unfair treatment, unreasonableness, and unconcern for others. The opposite of mercy would reflect a lack of compassion, unforgiveness, and unkindness. Absent humility, one becomes prideful, self-serving, and arrogantly assertive. What is God speaking to your heart regarding the application of justice, loving kindness, and humility? God’s preferred sacrifice is a “broken spirit and a contrite heart.” He rejects self-justification but embraces compassion.   // Points to Ponder Over the next week, here are 3 points to ponder during your personal time of reflection or with a small group or mentor. First, what sacrifice of service are you offering God? Second, when was the last time your heart was pricked to demonstrate selfless concern for one who did not deserve it? Third, is God pleased with your heart of service?   // About the Narrator COL Laurence Mixon, USA, a 1986 graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point, retired in June 2016 after a 30-year career with the Army and transitioned to an Army Senior Executive assignment at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. David has no reason to think anything is awryZiba has shown up with provisions to help David- so david gives him what belongs to mephibosheth3 Then the king said, “And where is your master's son?” And Ziba said to the king, “Indeed he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, ‘Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.' ”Here's the problem tho- Ziba was lying. We'll find that out in 2 sam 19. Mephibosheth says in v 26 “O king, my servant deceived me.”Ziba told Mephibosheth and lie and then told David a lie to cover up his lie. He was a liarMephibosheth assumed his servant was honorable, and so did David- Why wouldn't he?But he wasn't He was a self-serving miscreant. Most agree he wanted to be seen as the last heir to Saul so he could claim land and influence. That's why liars typically lie- they want influence, valuables, or notoriety to get the former. You probably already know this- but God doesn't like liars or lies.Proverbs 19:9 A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish.Psalm 101:7 He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence.Jesus even went so far to say in John 8:44 that Satan is the father of lies. Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another. What does it mean to you?First off- Don't be a liar. No one likes a liar. There's no need to lie, but people do it for many reasons- Protect their image, denigrate another (to increase their image), Deflect attention to someone else, And just like Ziba- be trying to influence you so they can get what they wantDon't be that person. Don't be a liar. The problem with a liar, is that you can never trust them. But what should you do to the liar? Expose them? Always be distrustful? No- Be you.Love the liar- Liars are people too- God will deal with them- You don't have to work it so hard4 So the king said to Ziba, “Here, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours.”And Ziba said, “I humbly bow before you, that I may find favor in your sight, my lord, O king!”David took Ziba at his word- He gets found out in 2 sam 19- but David can't worry about itWho Ziba is will be found out eventually- and so will every liar in your life- And if you're a liar, you will be found out as well. On All Saints Day, Christians have traditionally remembered those they have lost. Co-pastor reflects on the hope that despite the reality of death, all will be well.Readings:Revelation 7:9-17After this I looked, and behold, a great countless crowd from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing before the Lamb, clothed in white robes and with palms in their hands; and they shouted loudly saying, "Salvation to our God who is enthroned and to the Lamb." And all the angels stood around the throne with the elders and the four living creatures and prostrated themselves before the throne and worshipped God saying, "Amen; praise and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might to our God forever and ever; Amen." And one of the elders spoke to me saying, "Who are these who are clothed in bright robes and from whence have they come?" And I said to him, "My Lord, you know". And he said to me, "These are the people who have come through the great ordeal and have washed their robes and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb.  On this account, they are before the throne of God, and they worship night and day in his Sanctuary, and he who is enthroned will shelter them.  They shall not hunger anymore or thirst anymore, neither shall the sun nor any scorching heat fall upon them, because the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."Four Poems in One" Anne PorterAt six o'clock this morningI saw the rising sunResting on the ground like a boulderIn the thicket back of the school,A single great emberAbout the height of a man* * *Night has gone like a sickness,The sky is pure and whole. Our Lady of Poland spireIs rosy with first light,Starlings above it shatter their dark flock.Notes of the AngelusLeave their great iron cupAnd slowly, three by threeVisit the Polish gardens round about,Dahlias shaggy with frostSheds with their leaning toolsRosebushes wrapped in burlapSkiffs upside down on trestlesLike dishes after supper.* * *These are the poems I'd show youBut you're no longer alive. The cables creaked and shookLowering the heavy box.The rented artificial grassStill left exposedThat gritty gash of earthYellow and mixed with stonesTaking your bodyThat never in this worldWill we see again, or touch.* * *We know littleWe can tell lessBut one thing I knowOne thing I can tellI will see you again in JerusalemWhich is of such beautyNo matter what country you come fromyou will be more at home thereThan ever with father or motherThan even with lover or friendAnd once we're within her bordersDeath will hunt us in vain.
