CAN YOU HELP THE PODCAST?Dear Podcast Listener, Thank you for your support. This podcast aims to support dads all over the world, especially those struggling with their mental health. This podcast is my hobby, but I'd like it to become much more than that one day. For that to happen, I need the support of either one very wealthy angel investor or a few thousand, possibly slightly less wealthy (but no less generous) angel investors. To develop the podcast and hopefully support more dads, I need some help. With that in mind, if you enjoyed this episode and want to help me with what I'm trying to do, here is the link where you can leave a tip. ALL tips, regardless of size, are hugely appreciated, and as a thank you, anyone who leaves a tip will be entitled to a voice note message from me on their next birthday. After about a decade of setbacks & enough coffee to sink a ship, I'm a much happier dad. As previously mentioned, I want to try & help other dads be the best they can without losing their mental health. Mental health battles are something I am all too familiar with. In 2010, my GP suggested I do a 12-week CBT course with the NHS. During this course, I was diagnosed as having Pure OCD, which explained a lot.To Buy My Audiobook, First Time Dad, Click this link FREE & "HOPEFULLY" USEFUL RESOURCESFor your free digital copy of my book First Time DadPlease click this link.To be really quite awesome & leave me a review on Amazon Please click this linkFor your free digital copy of my book One Dad & His DogPlease click this linkAgain to be double awesome & leave a review on AmazonPlease click this linkAffiliate linksIf you're a content creator looking to try some state of the art production & editing software you really need to check out Descript. Marco Ciappelli and Sean Martin, your hosts, were joined by Madeline Van Der Hout, Paul McKay, both from Forrester, and various other experts to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and solutions within the cybersecurity landscape. This exciting episode of "On Location With Marco and Sean" dives deep into essential topics such as the significant role of the human element in cybersecurity, skill shortages, industry fragmentation, and future trends.Reimagining Cybersecurity: Back to the FutureThe episode begins with a nostalgic touch as Sean Martin and Marco Ciappelli discuss the iconic movie "Back to the Future". Drawing a parallel between the film's theme of time travel and the evolving cybersecurity landscape, they emphasize how the industry might benefit from lessons of the past while anticipating the future. The Reality of Cybersecurity InnovationMadeline Van Der Hout and Paul McKay shed light on the changing dynamics of cybersecurity events. Paul mentions that events like Infosecurity Europe must now compete with other regional events like CyberSec Europe in Brussels. This healthy competition fosters localized insights and innovations.Madeline adds that cybersecurity innovation often stems from startups. She believes these events stimulate larger vendors to communicate with smaller startups, thus supporting the entire ecosystem.API Security: A Case for ConsolidationBoth Paul and Madeline reflect on the notable presence of API security vendors at the conference. Madeline points out the consolidation in the market driven by various approaches to API security. CISOs today expect API security to be an integral part of their infrastructure, driving the conversation towards prioritization and efficient resource management. The Human Element and Mental HealthOne of the crucial points discussed was the significant skill shortage in the cybersecurity industry. Madeline stresses the need for more conversations around mental health and burnout prevention among cybersecurity professionals. Paul supports this by highlighting common hiring challenges where organizations are often looking for the "purple squirrel" or the "five-legged sheep."Training and Educating Future TalentThe conversation moves towards the barriers to entry for new talent in the industry. Both experts agree that focusing on certifications alone can create a class divide. Paul argues that this practice restricts access to the industry for those unable to afford costly certifications.Madeline emphasizes the need to work closely with HR departments to create better job profiles and hiring practices. This could alleviate some of the industry's talent shortages.Cybersecurity's Future: More Than Just a Business ProblemMadeline takes a broader view by asserting that cybersecurity is not just a business problem. It's a civilian issue as well, affecting everyone with a digital footprint. She encourages leveraging the power of informed voting and education to address cybersecurity at a societal level.Data-Driven Decision Making: The Key to Security's EvolutionSean Martin concludes by discussing the immense data available in the cybersecurity sector. He emphasizes the potential for the industry to drive businesses by making better, data-driven decisions. Paul agrees, pointing out the need for cybersecurity to evolve similarly to how the CIO function has over the years. Conclusion: A Call for Innovation and HumanityThe episode wraps up by reinforcing the focus on the human element. Marco highlights the need to utilize existing resources effectively rather than being distracted by the latest technological gadgets. Madeline's call to talk more about humans in every cybersecurity breach serves as a profound takeaway. As the conversation echoes through the media room at Infosecurity Europe 2024, it's clear that the journey forward in cybersecurity involves a blend of technology, human touch, and innovative thinking.Be sure to follow our Coverage Journey and subscribe to our podcasts!____________________________Follow our InfoSecurity Europe 2024 coverage: https://www.itspmagazine.com/infosecurity-europe-2024-infosec-london-cybersecurity-event-coverageOn YouTube:

In this episode, we travel back in time, to a world that didn't have easy access to medicine or reliable food supplies. We discuss a world in which gardens were vitally important and provide a really interesting insight into the medieval world. Andy was once a history student and this episode of the Growing Up Podcast might just be his favourite yet.
Historical fiction author, Jacquie Bloese draws her inspiration from atmospheric locations with intriguing histories, and people – both real and imaginary – whose stories are calling out to be told. Her latest release, The Golden Hour, set in Victorian Brighton is a compelling and deeply atmospheric read. In this fascinating episode, Jacquie discuses the inspiration for her second novel, the challenges of researching the Victorian age and growing up in Guernsey, the island which inspired her debut novel, The French House,_________________________________________________________________________________________In the genteel squares of late-Victorian Brighton, Ellen and Reynold Harper - twins, companions, colleagues - ply their trade as portrait photographers. But at the golden hour, the models arrive to pose for the lucrative - and illicit - photographs that really keep the Harpers' business afloat. This is the other, shadowy world of the city: a world of erotic tableaux, boundary-crossing music hall performers, and the sinister figure of the local gangster, the Croc. When Ellen is drawn into the orbit of unhappy newly-wed Clementine, she finds herself torn between loyalty to her brother, her dangerous attraction to new model, Lily, and her burgeoning friendship with Clem. And as the two worlds of Brighton collide, the three women discover that there is only a knife edge between the promise of freedom, and the threat of ruin . . .Atmospheric, sensual and powerfully moving, The Golden Hour is a spellbinding portrait of three women determined to find their freedom - perfect for fans of Sarah Waters, The Doll Factory and The Essex Serpent.

“You can look in your bedroom and it looks old fashioned, yes there might be a TV and a kettle, but fundamentally, you feel like you're stepping back in time. We really want you to come and feel relaxed, almost as if you are in a different age. People will come and say it's like stepping into an Agatha Christie novel, and that to me is a sign of success.” We're in great company with Steve O'Sullivan, Owner of the Haweswater Hotel, an Art Deco hotel he happened upon and meticulously restored to its former grandeur. Reminiscent of the 30's rich textures and vivid textures, the Haweswater embodies a design defying the passage of time. Here, guests can experience this unique and characterful hotel in an extraordinarily secluded spot, set amidst a stunning haven for wildlife in the Lake District of Cumbria, England. All are welcome to go for a short stroll or pack a picnic for a long hike, sit by the fireplace sipping on a craft cocktail or savor the regional flavors refined by renowned chef Mark Greenaway. In this episode, as we begin to celebrate the festive season, Steve tells of the hotel's storied past, how his team brings it to life today, and how he is invested in seeing it so for generations to come. Top Takeaways [1:40] From studying at Cambridge to spending a career in consulting, Steve saw a lot of similarities in his business experience that he wanted to invest in his next project - the “wounded animal” that was the Haweswater Hotel. [5:15] “You know how Google works, you try to find something and it tries to sell you something. In this case it tried to sell me a hotel.” Was it a mistake or meant to be? [6:40] Steve shares the history of the storied halls of the Haweswater Hotel over the past 90 years since its inception in 1937, a magnificent piece of Art-Deco Architecture for its time as part of the Haweswater Dam project enacted during the global depression. [13:20] What exactly is Art Deco design? “We look back on it with nostalgia, but at that time it was futuristic. A time of travel, of reinvention.” [15:50] Why staying at the Haweswater Hotel is a cross between a scene from Snow White and a visit to your slightly wealthy relative's house. [20:45] Expect to Dine In Good Company in the English countryside - from an expertly crafted and refined tasting menu upon arrival to the hearty comfort food perfect after a long day's hike. [32:10] The Spirit of Christmas is very much alive at the Haweswater Hotel - with the classical Christmas jazz playing as guests cozy up by the fireside with a glass of mulled wine or a plate of mince pie. We travel back to 1935 with Babe Ruth Author, Bob LeMoine and the Sauce is the Boss with Sweet Baby Ray's, Dave Raymond, a 2023 Barbecue Hall of Fame inductee. Bob LeMoine loves baseball and this love began at a very early age. He would lay in bed at night, listening to his small transistor radio and cheer on the Boston Red Sox. Bob is fascinated with Boston and 19th-century baseball history. His latest project is When the Babe Went Back to Boston: Babe Ruth, Judge Fuchs and the Hapless Braves of 1935. It is a fascinating look at Babe Ruth after his time with the New York Yankees ended and he tried to pursue a a second act career as a manager as well as all else from that time until his death. Babe Ruth is considered by many to be the greatest baseball player and this book provides much more interesting information on his life. Dave Raymond aka Sweet Baby Ray has many years of experience in the barbecue industry. In 1982, Dave and his lifelong friend Mike O'Brien used the sauce which Dave's brother Larry developed to build Sweet Baby Ray's, which is now the best-selling barbecue sauce in the country. They sold the business in 2001. In 2005 Dave partnered with his nephew, Larry's son Duce and they opened Sweet Baby Ray's Restaurant. Now a multifaceted business operation, Sweet Baby Ray's boasts two restaurants and two premier catering companies. Dave is also a member of the competition team, Duce's Wild, which has won over 40 awards since it began competing. Dave is a member of the newly inducted 2023 Barbecue Hall of Fame class. It takes us from the savannahs of Pliocene Kenya to watch a python chase a group of australopithecines into an acacia tree; to a cliff overlooking the salt pans of the empty basin of what will be the Mediterranean Sea just as water from the Miocene Atlantic Ocean spills in; into the tropical forests of Eocene Antarctica; and under the shallow pools of Ediacaran Australia, where we glimpse the first microbial life.
