Astrid Holleeder is voormalig strafrechtadvocaat en schrijver. Sinds 2015 leefde ze ondergedoken omdat ze getuigde tegen haar broer Willem Holleeder. Ze schreef vier autobiografische boeken over haar criminele broer en de impact die zijn handelen had op haar leven. Zo schreef ze ‘Judas', over onder andere de impact van de Heineken-ontvoering in 1983 en de verwijdering tussen de goede vrienden Willem Holleeder en Cor van Hout. Ook kwamen van haar hand ‘Dagboek van een getuige', ‘Familiegeheimen' en ‘Wie praat, die gaat'. In augustus 2025 verscheen ze voor het eerst herkenbaar op televisie. In Nederland leven ruim 200.000 mensen met epilepsie, vaak met aanvallen die ’s nachts plaatsvinden zonder dat patiënten of ouders het merken. Die nachtelijke aanvallen kunnen gevaarlijk zijn en zijn bovendien lastig te documenteren, waardoor behandelaars vaak onvoldoende zicht hebben op het echte aanvalspatroon. Een speciale wearable moet daar meer inzicht in geven, maar het Zorginstituut lijkt niet voldoende overtuigd. Te gast zijn Jeroen van den Hout, CEO van het bedrijf achter de NightWatch, en Roland Thijs, neuroloog bij het LUMC en onderzoeksdirecteur bij SEIN. De NightWatch is ontwikkeld binnen een brede samenwerking tussen epilepsie-experts, ingenieurs en productontwikkelaars, en wordt inmiddels gebruikt door duizenden patiënten en zorginstellingen in meerdere landen. Presentatrice Nina van den Dungen spreekt met hen over hoe de wearable werkt: een armband die via hartslag- en bewegingsmetingen risico’s op tonisch-clonische aanvallen detecteert en direct alarm slaat in de thuissituatie. De verzamelde data blijkt niet alleen van waarde voor veiligheid, maar ook voor de behandeling van epilepsie. Veel patiënten onderschatten het aantal aanvallen, mede doordat de aanvallen het geheugen beïnvloeden. Thuismonitoring levert daardoor nauwkeurigere informatie op, wat helpt bij het aanpassen van medicatie of het beoordelen van zwaardere interventies zoals epilepsiechirurgie, diepe hersenstimulatie of nieuwe vormen van neuro­modulatie. Toch stuit de technologie op uitdagingen. Zorginstituut Nederland wees vergoeding van de NightWatch recent opnieuw af, omdat er volgens het instituut onvoldoende direct bewijs is dat de wearable sterfte voorkomt. Wat betekent dat voor patiënten, en voor de opschaling van dit soort zorginnovatie? Verslaggever Stijn Goossens sprak met neuroloog Frans Leijten van UMC Utrecht over het gebruik van de NightWatch in het ziekenhuis. Je auto slim laden scheelt flink in de laadkosten, is goed voor het milieu, goed tégen netcongestie en je maakt beter gebruik van de zonnestroom die je opwekt. Kortom: bijna hetzelfde als wereldvrede. Maar wat als je auto (looking at you, Renault!) of laadpaal (looking at you, Alfen) niet slim kan laden?

In zijn nieuwe boek 'The Timber Truth' rekent Pablo van der Lugt af met hardnekkige houtbouwmythes. Is houtbouw duurder, slecht verzekerbaar, lastig te financieren, onveiliger, minder stevig, saai en slecht voor bossen? Welnee, toont Van der Lugt, mits bouwers en ontwerpers de juiste keuzes maken en het materiaal leidend laten zijn. Tegelijkertijd wil hij eerlijk zijn over uitdagingen waar hout géén antwoord op is.
