Vanguardistas have more fun—so if you don't already subscribe to the podcast, join the Vanguard today via Apple Podcasts or extratakes.com for non-fruit-related devices. In return you'll get a whole extra Take 2 alongside Take 1 every week, with bonus reviews, more viewing recommendations from the Good Doctors and whole bonus episodes just for you. And if you're already a Vanguardista, we salute you. Well hurrah hooray because this week it's a Toby Jones show (not a Noby Jones show) and he joins Simon to chat about ‘Mr. Burton'. In this true story Toby plays the title character, schoolteacher Philip Burton, who spots the talent of young pupil Richie Jenkins in the Welsh mining town of his birth. Burton nurtures Jenkins' acting flair as he becomes Richard Burton—taking his guardian's name as the stage name by which he became internationally famous. The erudite everyman as always, Toby chats to Simon about accents, pyjamas, and the future of TV drama. Mark reviews ‘Mr. Burton' too, as well as ‘Restless', a psychological thriller about nightmare-inducing noisy neighbours—or at least they would be nightmare-inducing if Nicky (Lyndsey Marshal) could get any sleep. Plus, A24's ‘Death of a Unicorn'—the starry satire where Paul Rudd & Jenna Ortega's father and daughter accidentally run over a unicorn on the way to visit the billionaire Leopold family (Richard E Grant, Téa Leoni and Will Poulter). Mark's verdict on all these, plus your correspondence on everything from search engines to The Stath—and memories of the late Val Kilmer. And if you're already a Vanguardista, we salute you. A smashy crashy action movie double bill on the review slate this week. First up, ‘Novocaine'—the action comedy where Jack Quaid plays Nathan Caine, a man born with a disorder that leaves him unable to feel pain. When the bank he works in is robbed and the girl of his dreams taken hostage, he discovers his physical quirk can be a superpower. But will it make Mark wince? Plus, The Stath returns in ‘A Working Man'--where he's Jason Statham, doing Stath things. That's probably all you need to know... but Mark will tell us where it's at in the Stath stakes. Our guest this week is none other than Gorgeous George MacKay, who plays ‘Son' in Josh Oppenheimer's post-apocalyptic bunker-musical (yes, you read that correctly) ‘The End'. Set 25 years after an environmental catastrophe leaves the earth uninhabitable, MacKay and his ‘Mother' (Tilda Swinton) and ‘Father (Michael Shannon) carry on a life of luxury and denial in their opulent underground shelter—where Son was born and raised, never having known life before. As Father writes a memoir nobody will read, and the family sing and dance their way through their bizarre existence in Golden-Age style, their brittle harmony is broken by the arrival of an unexpected guest. George tells Simon all about singing, dancing, having the most arthouse onscreen parents evs, and how his own new fatherhood has made him feel differently about the end of the world. Plus more correspondence on Flow from our Latvian listeners, the Milennium Bug from ‘Y2K' defenders, and of course Snow White--including a message from a young critic giving Mark a run for his money. When we last had concept artist Nick Stath on Perfect Organism (way back at episode 240, released on Alien Day 2024!), we were just months from the release of Alien: Romulus. Given how intimately involved Nick was with the artistic appearance of that movie, we had to be very careful to avoid spoiling anything. But now we've had Romulus out and in the world for seven months (can you believe it?), and we circled back with Nick to discuss his Romulus contributions in great detail. Please make sure you follow Nick on IG @nick_stath so you can see just what we're talking about! // Apple Podcasts: bit.ly/perfectorganismitunes // For more on this and our other projects, please visit www.perfectorganism.com. // If you'd like to join the conversation, find us on our closed Facebook group: Building Better Worlds // To support the show, please consider visiting www.perfectorganism.com/support. Harry, Gary, and Sarah the A.I. Bot are back, and this week they're joined by the brilliantly funny Jamie Demetriou creator of Stath Lets Flats, and you might have seen his face pop up in Fleabag plus Hollywood hits Barbie, Paddington 2 and Cruella. Jamie chats about growing up in a comedy-filled household, with his sister — comedian Natasia Demetriou - and how it all led to him bagging four BAFTAs. Plus, author Lindsay Littleson dives into this week's theme: the Titanic! Find out more about Lindsay's work at lindsaylittleson.co.uk Follow Jamie on Instagram here. We were so excited when Alien Romulus conceptual designer Nick Stath agreed to an interview! In this very special discussion, Stath takes us through what it was like to be chosen to work on Romulus, each step as a designer, expectations and being able to walk through the sets he designed. We hope you enjoy this as much as we did! We have a veritable guestapalooza this week as George Clooney and Callum Turner join us to talk The Boys In The Boat, Kevin Hart and Gugu Mbatha-Raw give us the lowdown on F. Gary Gray's heist movie Lift, and Dan Levy chats about his directorial debut Good Grief.Other than that, it's another fireside chat with just Helen and James this week as they mull over numerically titled films, shake their heads at the Golden Globes, and wade through an incredibly busy week for movie news. And that's before they get into the deranged masterpiece that is Poor Things, the simply deranged new Stath movie The Beekeeper, and the aforementioned Lift, Good Grief and The Boys In The Boat. Finally, apologies for the slight sound problem at the beginning of this week's show (one of the mics had the wrong setting) it only lasts for the first four minutes, though.
In this episode of The Robcast, Messrs. Daniel & Wallis give their verdict on Expend4bles, the belated fourth-quel in the action franchise. The Stath is back with the Meg(an Fox), joined by series regulars Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture. Also along for the ride are action legends Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais, plus perennial quality act Andy Garcia. But, does it deliver the wham and the bang? Listen in to find out. Hello and thank you for downloading another episode of The Flixters Podcast! On this week's show, The Flixters go deep. So deep in fact that we may bump into Jason Statham on the way. Just kidding that would be ridiculous. Or would it? We've got a review of The Meg 2: The Trench, the second instalment in the Meg franchise. The Stath is back as ‘Jonas', Meg Slayer, and he's on a mission. This film has ‘B-Movie' written all over it, but that's not necessarily bad. Check out the show to find out what we thought. On Anniversary Corner we look back at Sharknado (2013). And if that wasn't enough for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. This week's episode of the Empire Podcast puts the 'Meg' in mega, as Ben Wheatley returns to the podcast to talk about his new film, Meg 2: The Trench. This interview, conducted by Chris Hewitt immediately after our Empire VIP Club screening of the film earlier in the week, is a ton of fin-related fun, with Wheatley talking about how he came to direct a film that is unlike anything else on his filmography, emerging from Spielberg's shadow, and working with The Stath. It all starts around the 55-minute mark. Chris is then joined in the virtual podbooth by James Dyer and Ben Travis to discuss the best band in Star Wars, franchises that run the gamut from five-star to one-star entries, the week's movie news including the possibility of Wonder Woman 3 and Scream VII, and review Meg 2, Joy Ride, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Oh, and Ben (Travis, not Wheatley) finally loses his cool. Enjoy.

Rob and Ellie from KVIKMYNDAPOD join Flixwatcher to review Rob's choice Crank. Crank is a 2006 action film from directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and starring Jason Statham as hitman Chev Chelios. While asleep Chelios is injected by Chinese synthetic drug by small-time criminal Ricky Verona, which inhibits the flow of adrenaline, slowing the heart and will eventually kill Chelios. Chelios learns of this via a DVD recording and calls his Mafia surgeon Doc Miles who advises him to keep his adrenaline up by engaging in risky behaviour. Cue 88 minutes of the Stath driving recklessly, fighting with the police, taking drugs - including epinephrine, and having sex in public with Eve (Amy Smart) his girlfriend. Crank is a wild, insanely silly, occasionally offensive and innovative action film. Filmed on digital it allowed the directors to adopt a Gonzo approach to filming which adds to its overall feeling of craziness. Recommendability for Crank were pretty good, repeat viewing and engagement ratings were boosted by the sweet 88 minute runtime to give an overall rating of 3.38. It's an all-British affair on the Empire Podcast this week, as we finally get a chance to bring you the interview Chris Hewitt did with Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre director/star combo, Guy Ritchie and The 'Jason Statham' Stath over a year ago, before the film's release was delayed. Now it's out on Prime Video, here's the perfect chance to hear the duo talk about working together over the years, and Ritchie's unique approach to choreographing action sequences. Then, in an interview that hasn't been locked away in a vault for over a year, Chris sits down with Nicholas Hoult, returning to the pod after a four year break (damn you, Covid!) to talk about playing the title role in Renfield, fizzy water, his approach to choosing roles, and whether or not he has a Draclier in him. Ooer missus and no mistake. Then, in an epic pod either side of those, Chris is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara, Ben Travis, and James Dyer to talk about (some of) the greatest arrest scenes in movies (yes, we know we haven't been exhaustive. Yes, we know The Usual Suspects is missing, for one), review Renfield, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die, One Fine Morning and The Portable Door and, in an expanded news section, talk at length about Star Wars Celebration and all the news that emerged from that, the just-announced Harry Potter TV show, the new Indiana Jones trailer, some MCU casting news and much, much more. So line up a cool refreshing glass of the Devil's Pee and have at it. Enjoy!

The Action Movie Landfill is our side-project that explores the classic (or otherwise) movies made during the golden age of sell-through video. The film we have chosen for this edition, is The Transporter. Made in 2003 it is at the end of the golden age but was still a big hit on the DVD market. The movie is significant for tough guy actor and former diver, Jason Statham who had played memorable supporting roles in Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. In The Transporter, "The Stath" had a vehicle of his own. While not a stonewall classic, this low budget French action flick, co-written by Luc Besson, has a slick European feel combined with some high-octane Hong-Kong style action sequences. The moderately engaging plot serves to move the story from one action set piece to the next and it has a supporting cast that, it is fair to say, are doing their best. We really enjoyed talking about it and hope you enjoy listening. If you've not seen The Transporter, do so before listening to this podcast.Download the podcast here or you can listen to it on the player below. This week on the pod as a film just like Jaws is coming out called Beast, just minus the ocean, the orca and ruddy great big shark. Instead imagine a desert, bushes and a ruddy great big lion. Theres only one man that can defeat a ruddy great big lion and I am of course talking about big dris himself, Idris Elba. Yes we are talking about our favourite Idris Elba films for this week. And we are joined by the Pointless Spin-Off who know a thing or two about hiding in bushes, Sonny and Rory. Warning we will be talking SPOILERSThe Pointless Spin-Off pod, went for a film thats, well on brand for them, Fast & Furious Hobbs & Shaw. On this one we do frankly have a good giggle at this this one. We talk about the crazy action scenes. We talk about the creative banter The Rock and The Stath have. Plus we talk about the eternal force that is known as, family. Greetings stranger! All Hallows' Eve is finally upon us… To mark the occasion we bring you our latest episode a day early. A shameless attempt to bag more listeners who may be looking for scary recommendations to see them through this festive period. In the interest of being transparent, those listeners may be left with a bitter taste in their mouth, as our watchlist is jam-packed with reviews that have nothing to do with the spirit of the episode title. James has hardly anything positive to say about Locke & Key, Invasion, or Inside Job. Meanwhile, Dan has mixed feelings on The Outlaws (Bad), Stath lets Flats (Ok) and The Trip (Good). As always, we also discuss the world of Film and TV news but this is similarly devoid of horror-related content. To ensure we stay somewhat thematically relevant, we stab our way through multiple plot holes and carve out a thorough analysis of the latest addition to the Michael Myer's franchise, Halloween Kills. Here at GoodBadRemake, we're conscious of getting up ourselves and using this podcast as an excuse to talk only about prestige pictures. Which is why this week, we're watching two dyed-in-the-wool B-movies. Death Race 2000 - starring David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone - was made in the mid-70s for a pittance and went on to become a cult favourite. Its remake Death Race - starring Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson and Ian 'Lovejoy' McShane - was made for $45 million, has spawned three sequels so far and Catherine didn't even know it existed. Will either of them quench our collective thirst for blood and carnage? Can any three word review ever beat 'Samurai Cowboy USA'? And can the Stath follow where Matt Damon went before and secure a GBR seal of REMAZING? If you're interested in the team's views on non-remake properties, you can follow us on Letterboxd: Neal's profile - https://boxd.it/1EHhT Ben's profile - https://boxd.it/1lH3J We want your feedback, 3-word reviews and suggestions for any other films that have been remade, so find us in these places: Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Goodbadremake/ and on Twitter: twitter.com/GoodBadRemake And get in touch here: goodbadremake@gmail.com Music is 'Bring Me the West' by phlaala

Welcome back to the last episode of 2020, a year that has not been what anyone ever expected and a time where it was hard to have new movies to talk about when nothing basically opened in cinemas for most of the year! However it has not stopped us from finding plenty of news to talk about, and this is no different in our most recent episode! And as a bonus in between are plenty of asides and random rambles, including Ryan's plans on how he will make money from his burger idea! It will all make sense when you hear it! After a couple of follow-ups to Episode 21, we talk about Alan Rickman's diaries, rebooting Short Circuit, another Predator sequel, and a Hollywood Toxic Avenger film with Peter Dinklage! The guys discuss what it means when the Space Jam sequel isn't supposedly an actual sequel according to LeBron James before Ryan ponders the world of the Donald Trump cameo when the explanation for why he was in Home Alone 2 is discussed again. One of the guys biggest issues about over expanding your media multiverse before it grows naturally comes up time and time again this episode, first with plans to make several films in the Kingsman franchise and the Russo brothers future for the Extraction film franchise... which Rob expects will become Extractions because it sounds funny. Coming 2 America has been pushed back 4 Amazon, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are taking on Universal Monsters, and we ponder the reasons as to why the 5th Scream film is just called... Scream. "The Stath" as Rob calls him has a new job with Audrey Plaza, Ryan Reynolds is up to his usual tricks, and we talk giant observatories, monoliths, and German wooden penis statues for some strange reason. The still fake-looking shark from Jaws is now hanging up in the soon to be opened Academy Motion Pictures museum in LA, we talk stunt driving in Mission Impossible, Rick Moranis, Elliot Page, Pink Panther, and a possible video game James Bond series. More game news follows with updates on Sonic The Hedgehog 2, HBO's Last Of Us, Metal Gear Solid, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evil.As we recorded the night before the Disney investor's meeting, we missed out on all the news but took some time to throw out some wild theories on what could appear - some we got right, some missed the mark. But we touch on the live action Disney films, as well as Star Wars and Marvel content including some updates already announced or rumored like Black Panther 2, Chris Pratt in the next Thor, the Hawkeye Disney Plus series, the return of Alfred Molina, and others to Spider-man and Deadpool 3. We also cover numerous DC news after including the branding of the TV universe, the extra cast added to James Gunn's Suicide Squad film, and other Justice League related nonsense. We then tackle last month's bombshell HBO Max/Warner Bros announcement, and all the backlash surrounding that by filmmakers and others in the industry. We finish out the episode with the monthly In Memorium section, look at teaser and trailers for Clifford The Big Red Dog, Tom And Jerry, The Godfather Coda, docos The Baby God and Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Chaos Walking, and Cobra Kai Season 3, and reviews on Freaky, the Fresh Prince Reunion, and the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special! This week, host Jesse David Fox sits down with Jamie Demetriou, the creator/writer/star of the acclaimed British comedy, Stath Lets Flats. During the summer, Stath Lets Flats took home the Best Scripted Comedy award at the BAFTAs, beating out Catastrophe, Derry Girls, and even Fleabag. To translate the title to American English, Stath is Jamie’s character’s name and “lets flats” means leases apartments. That’s what the show’s about - a English-Greek idiot working at his family’s leasing agency. The scene we play comes from season 2, episode 5, in which Stath goes on a double date with his sister, Sophie (played by Jamie’s real life sister, Natasia). Sophie brings her new boyfriend, Cem (David Mumeni). Stath asked Sophie’s roommate/music and dance partner, Katia (played by Natasia’s real life comedy partner, Ellie White), who said no, but showed up anyway. When she said no, Stath invited his best friend Al (Al Roberts), but the only problem is Al and Sophie secretly love each other. Comedy ensues! You can watch Stath Lets Flats on HBO Max.
We've got no intro music. And no family quiz or old school Top of the Pops to talk about. So, how will we open this week's show? Rod Hull and Emu, that's how! Following on from our recent BAFTA special, we've caught up with some winning shows we missed first time round. We review the first series of Race Across The World (4:10), Stath Lets Flats (13:14) and The End of the F***ing World (19:13). Plus, Elaine made Mark watch the first episode of new Channel 5 psychological thriller, The Deceived (27:08). Safe to say, Mark had strong views... Our Date Night film is gothic revenge drama The Crow (1994) (35:17). Which became, quite frankly, an excuse to talk about goth clubs we went to in the 90s.

For episode 90 Dario and Neil go old school for the film and the format. In this classically structured episode the focus of attention is on the 1994 action classic Speed, screened for the Film at Falmouth 2019 Freshers audience at The Poly in Falmouth. The discussion ranges across contemporary and classic action movies and stars including Harrison Ford, Arnie, The Stath, Cruise, Aliens, Dredd and much more, as well as the film as in service of pure spectacle, the uniqueness of Keanu and the special chemistry he shares in this film with co-star Sandra Bullock. Thanks to The Poly, and Dr Verena Von Eicken for co-hosting the live event. --- Here's a link to Neil's piece on Doc 'n Roll Fest for the Quietus that he discusses early on this episode. Our instant reaction after watching the first official F&F spinoff starring The Rock and The Stath.
Hey peeps, this week we're talking about the new Fast And Furious spin-off movie. We talk about how little sense these films make if you're trying to pay attention and how the original cast might not have been too happy about the announcement of this film. I talk about how The Rock and the Stath seem to be the only two main characters that understand that these films are comedies. Oh and I briefly mention the Shaven Twins. I guess I'll let you listen to find out who they are. Enjoy. If you want to check out further blogs that I've written then you can visit them here... http://ademonsvoice.blogspot.com And most importantly, again, don't forget to follow me on twitter here... https://twitter.com/ADemonsVoice Of course some of you might not be on twitter in which case I've got Facebook for you... https://www.facebook.com/ademonsvoice/ Cheers!

In honor of the 2019 Golden Globes, the group discusses their favorite action hero actor, their die-hard actor, and the one whose movies they will never watch.
With a bloated budget, an international cast headed by, none other than, The Stath and a plot that sounds like it was ripped from the notes at a SYFY Channel Producer's brainstorm, Jon Cross and Jim Wallace take in The Meg!Can a film be called a Summer sleeper hit if it clearly went money crazy with its advertising? I don't know but it certaily came out of nowhere and became quite the must-see, giant shark movie of our age - giving Statham a giant, bulbous hit all of his very own! Your hosts discuss the film, Jason Statham, Texas eggs, disgusting cinemas, uncomfortable seats, pokey diner tables and much much more!CONTACT US and give us feedback at aftermoviediner@gmail.com, Call us on 347 669 0053 or leave us a voicemail from your computer at www.speakpipe.com/aftermoviediner
This week - Stath Lets Flats Series 1 Episode 1Stath Lest Flats is a brand new E4 sitcom, written by and starring one of the UK's leading young character comedians, Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag, Paddington) - described by the Independent as 'a Steve Coogan in the making.' Main character Stath is a chaotic but well-meaning lettings agent, working for his Greek-Cypriot father in North London. Across the series, Stath tries to prove himself a worthy heir to the family business, 'Michael and Eagle', despite his epic incompetence and divisive personality.Against the backdrop of London's property market, Stath is a highly original workplace comedy with family at its heart, which offers a unique glimpse of Greek-Cypriot life in the city. The series is co-written by Robert Popper (Friday Night Dinner) and directed by Tom Kingsley, director of BAFTA nominated feature Black Pond.Stath Lets Flats is available on All4 https://bit.ly/2MyCnQ6 and DVD.The Comedy Slab Podcast with Adrian Lacey & Shane O'Connor is available on Apple Podcasts, Spreaker, Stitcher, iHeart Radio and Youtube.Subscribe for a new episode each Monday. We're @ComedySlab on Twitter and @ComedySlab Facebook.
The Legend of Cedric Graham's been practising his terrible Jason Statham impersonation for a whole week, but in the end it's Mark who covers the Stath's shark-'em-up The Meg. Rob, Aidan and Graham, meanwhile, turn their attention to Michael Lehmann's cult classic Heathers, now back in cinemas for its thirtieth anniversary. Is it still so very, or has it accrued some damage? A full Off the Shelf sees Rob looking at an uncharacteristic film by one of his favourite directors - Hirokazu Koreeda - in Arrow Academy's new release The Third Murder, Graham goes in the slammer with Frank Sinatra and Leslie Howard in The Premium Collection's triple-format release of Von Ryan's Express, and Aidan initiates our new feature Devil's Advocate. For its first run-out, we're asking a question that could result in fisticuffs: is David Fincher's Fight Club really any good? Apologies for the background noise this week, Rob's water tank was kicking out all sorts of noise. It shouldn't stop you from enjoying this week's packed episode. Joining us this week is creator and star of upcoming series Stath Lets Flats Jamie Demetriou who stars as the inept Stath, who works at a dodgy London lettings agency run by his father. This week, four movies made from TV shows. We start with tour de force The Untouchables (1987), written by David Mamet, directed by Brian De Palma, music by Ennio Morricone. Then Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones square off in The Fugitive (1993); a high-stakes chase that grinds to a slow end. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu are strong independent women in skimpy outfits in Charlie’s Angels (2000). Generation-subverting, meta-breaking bro-fest 21 Jump Street (2012) puts thirty-somethings Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum back into high school. Also: Joe does every accent going in 1930’s Chicago. We guess what the porn remake of The Untouchables would be. Joe refuses to fat shame a baby. The Stath punches a shark. I’ll have the McG please. Dee explains Jiggle TV. Joe doesn’t want help remembering John Candy’s career. We play a game of “... the Movie!”
On this week's thrilling installment, Marc and Ian chow down on Sausage Party, get some hot Stath injections with Mechanic Resurrection, Ian follows through with his promise to watch Jen & The Holograms and Marc continues to make poor film choices. @ianloring @dudefozz @dudeandamonkey dudeandamonkey@gmail.com
This week's show we have fantastic music from Amy Lynn and the Gunshow a New York songstress with an awesome RnB, jazz backing band, then we have talking genitals with our new 'randomly call Jamie Jenkins' segment, then we learn all about The Stath, The Hammer and 2 new, great indie movies from Jason Hewlett and John Fallon. You won't want to miss this one, it's jam packed, funny and fresh despite me being hollow, miserable and tired!! ENJOY!
Fully hair headed, Steven Hurst and Staham stalker, Suzanne King tackle the filmography of the Stath only to find themselves talking about his bald head and his often naked body. Spoilers are bound to pop up.
