In this episode I'll talk about five of the most important factors for you to consider if you're in a breakup or divorce. My writing career kicked off with a book about how to use the pain of your breakup or divorce to transform your life, so this is my bread and butter! Since that book I've worked with thousands of people who are now on the other side of heartbreak and most are living lives they never thought possible.Knowing these are the keys to the kingdom:— You will be okay, you just won't be for a bit— It's okay to not be okay— You won't die, but part of you will and that's a good thing— Pain is fuel (this is a BIG one)— The reasons your breakup happened can lead you to a goldmine.Heartbreak is brutal, but on the other side of it can be a freedom you only dreamed of.Please do me a favor and share this episode with one person in your life.Cheers,TraverInterested in one of Traver's books? In this episode I'll talk about how and why you need to get past the idea that people who don't live like you do or even want to, are supposed to understand you.If there's one thing that needs to be navigated in order to live a life outside of the box — it's being misunderstood. This comes from family, friends, and of course, perfect strangers who have internet access to you.Learning to work through what's different about you (these are good things) and owning the fact you can't have uncommon or UNcivilized outcomes while being celebrated by folks trapped in the matrix is a big deal. And on the other side of it is freedom. Please do me a favor and share this episode with one person in your life.Cheers,Traver

In this profound and powerfully honest episode, Andrew is joined by Traver Boehm—author, speaker, and founder of the Uncivilized Men's Movement. This raw and revealing conversation dives deep into the emotional and spiritual reality of being a man in today's world. Traver shares the personal story behind his movement, how heartbreak and disillusionment cracked him open, and why he's devoted his life to helping men reclaim both their primal power and emotional truth. Together, Andrew and Traver explore men's sensitivity, the cultural disbelief in men's inner lives, and the loneliness and pain so many carry silently. Traver also opens up about his experiences with darkness retreats—radical, solitary immersions into absolute darkness—and how they've initiated him into deeper self-understanding, ego death, and trust in his own soul's call. He offers a powerful challenge to men: Dare to feel. Dare to be fully human. This episode is a must-listen for any man who's ever felt alone in his pain… and for anyone who's ready to meet the courage that lives inside vulnerability. ⸻ What You'll Learn in This Episode: • How Traver turned heartbreak into a mission to support men • Why emotional sensitivity is a masculine strength, not a weakness • The hidden epidemic of male emotional isolation—and how to break it • Why the phrase “I've never said this out loud before” changes everything • How to balance emotional expression with purpose, structure, and spine • The truth about numbness, avoidance, and the cost of living half-alive • What it's like to spend 28 (and soon 49) days in total darkness—and what that journey reveals • Why Traver believes something must break for a man to be reborn • How to cultivate a human experience that's raw, real, and relational • Two sentences every man needs to hear: “I believe you. I just returned from an immersive training run by the Uncivilized Man Organization with Traver Boehm and led by one of the wisest men I've ever met - Duey Freeman. With over 50 years of experience in psychotherapy, he impacted me in a big way. One big theme stood out and it's the root cause of so many of our issues with each other - our struggles aren't about trauma, they are about fragmented attachment that prevents us from grieving and healing trauma. While we are full-fledged adults in many aspects of our lives like work, leisure activities, productivity; we are small children relationally. When our earliest needs were not met we subconsciously imprinted a belief system about our place in the world and how we should relate to others. The beliefs, many times, sound like - I'm not good enough, the world is not safe, I can't trust anyone, They will probably leave me, etc.As we dive into healing relationships and understanding the opposite sex more and more having a good grasp on this ‘operating system' that we run throughout lives is the most important thing as it's the root cause of everything we experience or don't experience in our lives.Timestamps:00:00 - 00:51 Intro and Overview of today's episode00:51 - 02:52 What I learned from Duey Freeman02:52 - 04:43 Attachment, not trauma Issues04:43 - 05:18 What the healing process is about05:18 - 07:35 Why are men hurting so much?07:35 - 09:25 Where hyper-stoic men come from09:25 - 11:28 When do attachment breaches begin?11:28 - 14:21 What happens when babies don't get attunement?14:21 - 16:23 How does unhealthy attachment manifest?16:23 - 17:57 Where 'Nice guys' come from17:57 - 19:17 Does anyone have a perfect attachment?19:17 - 19:53 Outro and closing remarks____________________________________________If you found some value today then help me spread the word! This is showing up in his challenge around meal planning and workout programming, as well as the deeper issue at hand: — This is a protection mechanism keeping him from getting what he really wants. What does he really want? A deep connection with the men in his life. A deep connection with friends and loved ones. And of course, not take all of the time and energy that he's spending keeping every single option open to him (how exhausting) and use that time and energy to reach a higher purpose. This is potent conversation about responsibility, maturity, and discipline and how all three actually do foster more feelings and experiences of freedom. Enjoy. "THE UNCIVILIZED MAN... Is Unapologetically Male. Dangerous but not a danger. Makes still his mind, makes savage his body. Knows his gifts grow in the garden of his wounds. Practices presence and performance. Honors the men before him, the women who bore him, and the children who will inherit his Earth. Has equal and easy access to his head, heart, and balls. Lives, by the rule — there are no rules — but there is responsibility. Loves fiercely, openly, and without reservation. Knows strength without love is tyranny. Knows love without strength is victimhood." These are the words you will find on the „about me“ page of the website „Man Uncivilized, created by the founder Traver Boehm. Traver is a man who knows men deeply. And much of the wisdom and insights he imparts to other men actually from his own lived experiences, particularly the breakdown moment that flipped his life upside down and catapulted him on his path of transformation. In a mere period of 24 hours, his wife and his business partner at the time both decided to go their separate ways – resulting in the loss of his marriage, business partnership, and business. Dumbstruck by what had happened, Traver knew the only way he could overcome this loss was by consciously moving through it. He created a program for himself called the "Year to Live Project," where he deliberately lived an entire year as if it was his last. And in that year among other things, he volunteered in hospice, spent 28 days in a dark room, and completed a one-month outdoor survival course. Eventually his own journey of growth led him to birth "Man Uncivilized" – one of the fastest-growing men's movements in the world where his mission is "to stop the unnecessary suffering in men in order to stop the suffering caused by men." I first became exposed to Traver's work three years ago when I read his book "Man Uncivilized." At the time, I was on a deep journey of self-discovery, exploring what it even means to be a man, but also how I could integrate the aspects of myself that I had locked away, such as my assertiveness, anger, grief, shame, and desires, among many other things. Traver's work has been absolutely pivotal for me in my own journey, and it was an honor to come full circle and invite Traver to "Heart of Man." As I see it, this conversation deeply lived up to the anticipation I had for it. We delved deeply into Traver's personal journey and extracted some of the deepest lessons, as well as what helped him move past rock bottom. And from there, we transitioned into our conversation around men and masculinity, diving into various areas such as moving through pain as men, relationships, and sexuality. This has been an absolutely powerful deep dive – and I can't wait for all of you to dive in. Summary Traver Boehm, founder of the Uncivilized Movement, shares his journey of personal transformation and the creation of a men's movement. He discusses the need for men to be vulnerable and open up about their struggles, challenging the stigma that men don't reach out for help. Traver explains the concept of being uncivilized, which combines the best of traditional masculinity with emotional intelligence and self-improvement. He emphasizes the importance of resilience, faith, and tenacity in pursuing one's purpose and making a positive impact in the world. Believe in yourself, believe in your heart, and believe in something bigger than yourself. Follow these three beliefs to find satisfaction and joy in life. Take the time to sit with yourself and listen to what your heart and soul want. Don't chase material possessions or external validation, but instead focus on building meaningful relationships and following your true purpose. Remember that life is a series of micro steps and setbacks, and that success is not a linear process. Embrace the challenges and opportunities that come with rock bottom moments, and use them as a chance for growth and self-discovery. Takeaways Men often face stigma and resistance when reaching out for help, but it is important for them to be vulnerable and open up about their struggles. The Uncivilized Movement combines the best of traditional masculinity with emotional intelligence and self-improvement, challenging the notion that men have to be either tough or sensitive. Resilience, faith, and tenacity are key qualities for pursuing one's purpose and making a positive impact in the world. The concept of being uncivilized involves rejecting societal norms and systems that are not working and embracing a more authentic and fulfilling way of living. Building a supportive community and having meaningful conversations can be transformative for men and help them navigate challenges in their personal and professional lives. Episode 193 is a deep dive into the changing landscape of masculinity and the challenges men face today. In this episode, you'll meet Traver Boehm, the founder of the UNcivilized Men's Movement, author of Man UNcivilized, host of the UNcivilized Podcast, and a two-time TEDx speaker. Traver's goal is to end the suffering in men — to end the suffering caused by men. He is dedicated to understanding how men think, what's behind their behavior, and, most importantly, their unique challenges in the modern landscape. In 2016, after losing a pregnancy, his marriage, and his business partnership all within weeks of each other, he created a radical year-long social experiment to answer the question, “Who am I as a man?” During that year, he lived alone in a pitch-black room for a month, sat among men nearing the end of their lives in hospice, and called all of his exes to ask where he was deficient as a man. It was also when he realized that he might be able to help other men answer the question for themselves, “Who am I as a man?” Drawing upon an eclectic background ranging from professional bodyguard and mixed martial arts to a Master's Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and meditation, he's helped men all over the world become UNcivilized as they wake up to the power of their hearts, the brilliance of their bodies, and the wisdom of their souls so they can blaze their own path. He does this through one-on-one coaching with men or women, couples coaching, and group mentorship. If you want to take risks and live boldly to create a fulfilling and meaningful life, you've got to listen to this episode!Key Takeaways:Grounded masculinity involves being physically strong, emotionally present, and having a sense of purpose. Men have core needs, including the need to feel seen, heard, and celebrated, as well as the need for a purpose beyond family. The concept of toxic masculinity oversimplifies the issues men face and can be harmful.Men should strive to be authentic and express themselves rather than conform to societal expectations. Integrity is crucial for men, aligning thoughts, words, and actions, leading to confidence and purpose. Fitness plays a significant role in masculinity, providing strength, capability, and safety. Meditation and presence are essential for men to cultivate self-awareness, improve relationships, and navigate the challenges of modern technology. Today I'm excited to bring you my conversation with Traver Boehm. Traver is a good friend of mine and a legend in the work we do supporting men. We've had Travor on the show a few times before to discuss topics like the importance of brotherhood. In this episode, Travor and I dive deep into his UnCivilized Movement. We break down what it means to be an "uncivilized man" and explore different paradigms of masculinity. Traver also shares some of the challenges he sees men facing today. I asked Travor about finding one's purpose and listening to your inner voice. We even talked about what he would do if he was President - you'll have to listen to hear his answers. Traver is a man of great depth and insight. I know you'll walk away with something valuable from our discussion. So sit back, press play, and enjoy the show! In this quick and dirty solo episode I'm answering a question I got on Instagram about what exactly boundaries are and how to set them and keep them. Boundaries are the special sauce of relationships. With them your relationships will thrive and can last forever. Without them you will slowly build up resentment and until you explode. Trust me as I speak from personal experience on this. I'm diving into how to understand boundaries more deeply, why you need them, and the magic sentence that you can use to enforce them. We men often don't stop and ask ourselves, “Whose rules am I playing by? Are they mine? Do they work for me? What if I changed them?” In this short solo episode I share a conversation I had with a man after Jiujitsu who has changed his entire outlook on life just by questioning whose rules he was living by. This is especially important for Nice Guys who often aren't playing by ONE set of someone else's rules but changing depending on who is in front of them. This episode is hard hitting and will help you shift both your perspective and your actions to be more aligned with you want to be! Enjoy. Talking points: trauma, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, trauma culture, therapy I was connected to Katherine Ann through my own mentor, the incredible gestalt therapist Duey Freeman. Her story is intense, powerful, and most importantly, it's shows the importance and possibilities inherent in trauma work and group work. I applaud Katherine Ann for coming forward and sharing her story. [00:01:12] - Katherine Ann's defining moment [00:08:50] - the role Katherine Ann's father played in her life [00:15:12] - Were you believed about what was happening, and how did your trauma start manifesting? [00:26:44] - How did what happened shape your perception of men, and how has that evolved since doing trauma excavation? [00:40:16] - What would you say to people who struggle with forgiving what's happened? [00:45:27] - What is trauma excavation? [00:54:44] - Do you get the sense that trauma work has become so mainstream it's been watered down? Katherine Ann is a mother of five grown children – 2 daughters and 3 stepsons. She resides in Boulder, CO with her beloved husband. After years of abuse and trauma, followed by 30 years (thus far) of healing, she recently released her website – see KatherineAnn.com – and is sharing her life story and experiences in hopes of helping others heal from trauma and abuse, and transform from a place of just surviving to thriving in life. The connection Katherine Ann has with (Connor) is through Duey Freeman, who has been a therapist for almost 50 years with about 80,000 contact hours with clients. Katherine Ann has worked with Duey individually and collectively with her siblings. Recently, Duey stated on Traver Boehm's podcast that, Katherine Ann, and her brother and her sister, “were involved in probably the most bizarre and intense situation of abuse – both physical and sexual – that I've seen.” In 2008, in a letter of promotion for the three siblings when they planned to write a book together, Duey wrote about the abuse as, “the most intense, insidious, and malicious case of abuse and incest I have ever known. It is a story of love and hate, of physical and sexual abuse, of incredible humiliation and manipulation. A story that makes you cry and then pray for both forgiveness and healing.” Katherine Ann's book will be published later this year.
