Born the son of a Ph.D. historian and homeschooled for most of my childhood, I was fortunate to grow up steeped in the story of humankind. When I wasn't drawing, reading, or inventing, I was asking questions. This instilled in me a passion for discovering the transcendent through the unique expression of every individual. As an entrepreneur and innovator with a track record of successful advertising campaigns and product launches for leading social ventures and NGOs, I've developed a high level of proficiency across multiple disciplines including brand identity, product development, event production, and digital strategy. From 2014-2021 I grew and scaled a niche marketing firm for social impact entrepreneurs and leading nonprofits from 2 to 12 employees. I served as Creative Director and CEO, leading a diverse team from early startup to successful company exit. Concurrently, I Co-Founded and sold a creative professional network, and leveraged partnerships with top international NGOs to host a premium leadership summit. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the business side of creative work, as well as the superpower healthy, trusting teams wield in accomplishing the hard work of invention. My fascination with how stories and symbols bring us together evolved into a love of brand narrative across all media. My work brings together strategic insights, market analysis, and a studied application of the universal archetypes that move us. This allows my clients to claim meaningful territory in the psyche of their audience. Most days you'll find me cooking with my wife, Augusta, and my son Marcellino VI. They are the heart and soul of my life. I love Spartan races, brazilian jujitsu, Shakespeare plays, and poetry. Some might say that's a strange combination, but such people probably haven't read the Iliad.

Sam is the Founder and Chairman of Falling Forward Foundation which makes grants to pay for continued outpatient rehabilitation after insurance benefits run out. Sam saw the need for such support and launched the Foundation after his own rehab experience.   In 2011, Sam suffered a spinal cord injury that resulted from an accident while on vacation in Italy.  Sam was paralyzed from the waist down and faced a long, uncertain recovery. Thankfully, Sam learned that, unlike most medical insurance, his policy had no “therapy cap” and placed no limit on rehabilitation. Sam's insurance covered nearly two years of intensive physical therapy.  With the skill and support of many rehab professionals, Sam recovered.  He's now able to walk with a cane, drive a car, work part-time and live a productive life.   During his two years in rehab, Sam saw the impact of therapy caps first-hand.  Sam met hundreds of people whose recoveries were cut short when their insurance benefits stopped, and they were unable to pay out of their own pockets.  In August of 2013, Sam launched Falling Forward to give other patients the same opportunity that he had --- to continue outpatient rehabilitation and to recover to their full potential. So far, Falling Forward has funded continued outpatient rehabilitation for more than 190 people at four rehab centers in Colorado, Illinois, Kansas and Missouri. To see their stories and learn more, visit www.fallingforward.orgPrior to his accident, Sam spent more than 25 years in marketing and advertising, building some of America's largest brands in snack food, household products, footwear and retail.  Sam grew up in Peoria, IL and earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
