On Thursday, after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. got confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Mitch McConnell, the only Republican to vote no, issued a powerful statement citing RFK's anti-vax conspiracy theories and crediting vaccines for saving millions of lives around the world. That prompted two unhinged, angry rants from Trump in which he absolutely savaged McConnell as a loser, a failure, and worse. We talked to veteran congressional observer Norm Ornstein, who explains what this Trump-McConnell rift tells us about Trump's ability to terrorize today's GOP into submission—and why we can't count on Republicans to stand up to him going forward. Senate Republicans will vote today to select their chamber's next leader. Who they pick will have a profound effect on whether the mandate Donald Trump received – which, among other things resulted in the election of several new GOP Senators and the flipping of control of the Congress' upper house – will translate into transformative legislative successes essential to making America great again.  Unfortunately, two of the three candidates – Senators John Thune of South Dakota and John Cornyn of Texas – are lieutenants of the longtime, outgoing top Republican, Mitch McConnell. Unlike the third contender – Florida Senator Rick Scott who ran against McConnell previously and is closely aligned with President-elect Trump and his agenda – Thune and Cornyn will reliably do the bidding of the virulently anti-Trump McConnell.  As it happens, McConnell has long been deeply compromised by the Chinese Communist Party. It certainly wants to see Trump fail. And Senators casting secret ballots for his proxies will effectively be voting to put the CCP first, not America.  This if Frank Gaffney

In this episode of Mid Atlantic, host Roifield Brown leads a discussion with an expert panel featuring Ira Shapiro, Aram Fisher, Steve O'Neill, Tonye Altrade, and Michael Donoghue. The main focus is on the launch of the UK party manifestos and the impact they may have as the general election approaches. The panelists examine key pledges from the Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democrat parties, analysing their potential influence on voters. The discussion also covers recent events in US politics, including President Joe Biden's response to his son Hunter Biden's conviction and the significance of a recent meeting between Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. The panelists debate the implications of these developments and the broader state of American politics as the 2024 election season heats up.Key QuotesSteve O'Neill on UK Party Manifestos: "The thing with manifestos, they are in some way shopping lists of policies, but they also tell a story. Labour's manifesto tries to tell a story about the kind of government Keir Starmer wants to run."Tonye Altrade on the Conservative Manifesto: "There was no story whatsoever I could glean from the Conservative manifesto. It was a ramshackle of different things, some bold, some pandering to far-right wingers."Mike Donoghue on US Politics: "It's a brutal time to be an incumbent president. When you've got a country that seems angry, divided, depressed, they tend to blame the incumbent for everything."Ira Shapiro on Mitch McConnell and Trump: "McConnell staying with Trump despite their differences shows the extent of partisanship. It's clear McConnell will support the nominee, no matter who it is."Aram Fisher on Biden's Strategy: "Biden has taken steps to re-engage with black voters, appearing alongside Kamala Harris in Philadelphia. How effective this will be remains to be seen, but it's a crucial part of his campaign strategy." Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The political reasons behind Mnuchin (and Trump & McConnell) actions to ‘take back’ the money allocated in the last March Cares Act from the Fed. Nevertheless, the Nobel group keeps giving awards to pro-free market theories that argue capitalist markets are efficient and therefore superior to government. Is it economic ‘science’ or economic ‘ideology’, supporting the fiction that markets always produce the best prices—and therefore the government should sell off (privatize) public goods (wireless spectrum) using auction markets at a lower price than it might sell otherwise. What are the hallmarks and indicators of ‘economic ideology’ (ideology defined as misrepresentation of reality, facts, & truth)?

Get ready for a whirlwind primer in the GOP donor-funded Trump-McConnell takeover of the U.S. judiciary. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has essentially shut down the Legislative Branch for anything except confirming Trump judges. They know they’re not going to finish in Trump’s first term. If he gets a second term, they WILL finish. Already, the Trump-McConnell controlled courts have a unanimous victory on the 80 corporate cases that have appeared in front of the Supreme Court. That is 80, 5-4 decisions, in favor of corporate interests and that is EVERY case decided in favor of private interests and against the public good. Their priority is to pack the courts with judges who are young, inexperienced, and pro-corporate. McConnell and the Senate Republicans have turned the Senate and the Legislative Branch into  a conveyor belt for confirming Trump judges. The House Democrats have passed over 350 bills, 90% of which have bi-partisan support, that have yet to even be considered by the Senate. The courts are all but captured and with Justice Ginsberg’s seat now vacant, the stakes for America have never been higher. Click here to view the episode on our websiteClick here to view the episode transcriptLinks to research used in this episode:The Myth of 'Captured Courts' | OpinionPresident Trump's re-election rally in TulsaAn inside look at how Trump's Supreme Court list is made: ‘A tremendous investment of time’DPCC Report: Stabenow, Schumer, Whitehouse Unveil Report Detailing GOP's Big-Money Assault on the Constitution, Our Independent Judiciary, and the Rule of LawMitch Part 4: 'Not A Happy Choice' : Embeddedhttps://www.motherjones.com/politics/2020/07/he-defended-anti-gay-and-anti-muslim-causes-now-hes-an-immigration-judge/ Frequently Asked Questions, fedsoc.orgTrump’s New Judicial Litmus Test: Shrinking ‘the Administrative State’Economic Inequality and Political Representation

I rant about the dishonesty (and/or stupidity) of House Republicans during the impeachment debate. Also, about the shameless bad faith exhibited by Mitch McConnell. And the unraveling of Donald Trump’s mind – to the extent it was ever raveled. Plus, my frustration with the Democratic presidential debate our candidates failing to lay a glove on Trump. And with the Democratic candidates, who beat up each other, but failed to lay a glove on Trump.

Some conservatives expressed dismay, and even a sense of betrayal, over the President's recent press conference with Mitch McConnell, in which Trump praised the Senate Majority Leader for his loyalty and effectiveness. What did Trump have in mind, McConnell's many right-wing critics seemed to wonder? Very likely, he appreciated the Kentucky Senator's stellar record on Judicial nominations. It's not just that McConnell blocked Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, enabling the superb appointment of Neil Gorsuch. He also delayed scores of liberal lower court nominees, so that Trump took office with 107 key vacancies to fill—more than four of the last five presidents going back to Reagan. Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal praised both McConnell and Trump for nearly 60 consistently conservative judicial appointments so far. She wrote: “McConnell just happens to have a steely passion for remaking the judiciary and deserves credit for the extraordinary class of judicial nominees now coming through.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
