Gear up everyone because it is the Thirty First episode of the Kink Kloset!Riding in from Los Angeles, it is the Mexican Texan, Marcus Barela. Marcus left his hometown in Midland Texas and moved to Los Angeles in search of adventure, diversity and popstars. In his early 20's he started working as a barback and bartender for the famous Eagle LA. It was these early years where Marcus was exposed to the local queer and kink communities wherein he felt accepted and could call the Eagle his home. His passion for the leather community ignited over the past 3 -4 years, especially galvanized with overcoming the challenges Covid had on the community, which inspired him to be more involved. This involvement eventually led to Marcus competing for International Mr Leather in Chicago last May, where he was successful in becoming International Mr Leather 2023.Marcus' journey hasn't always been a smooth sailing. Working in a lively and social workplace, coupled with excitement of queer life, Marcus found himself engaging in big nights out and not always able to recall the tale. There came a tipping point in his late 20's where he was continuously breaking his own self-promises regarding his drinking, and decided to engage in the sober community for help. Marcus has found that continuous engagement and support from sober community is key to maintaining his sobriety. As we discuss in the episode, it takes a village, and for Marcus the sober, and leather and kink communities are multiple villages which have helped make him into the outstanding kinkster and human he is today.

In case you missed it, WPC24 took place recently in Calgary, Alberta, for the second time in its history. WPC itself was established way back in the 1930s as a forum for the global industry to discuss common themes on a triennial basis. As a global event, it attracts an audience from around the planet.. The voices discussing the global energy industry's challenges included the Energy  Minister from Saudi Arabia, and the CEOs of Saudi Aramco, ExxonMobil, Repsol, WestJet, Accenture, Pertamina, KNOC, Kuwait Petroleum Corp, ONGC, NNPC (Nigeria), NOCK (Kenya), Oil India, and managing directors, presidents, vice presidents, and board chairs from Cenovus, Petronas, Petrobras, Petronet, Suncor, Deloitte, Brookfield, Platts, S&P, Shell, and many others.  You never know who you'll meet at such a gathering. As I ascended the escalator to the event floor for the opening ceremonies, I found myself standing beside a trade ambassador from Libya, who shared some personal details of the immense tragedy stemming from the floods from his country. My fellow panelists hailed from Calgary, Houston, and Saudi Arabia. I have a collection of business cards from Tema (Ghana), St. John's, Midland (Texas), Bogotá (Colombia), Pittsburgh, Berlin, Washington, and Uruguay. Under the broad theme ‘path to net zero', the range of topics under discussion were in equal parts bracing and confronting, taking in supply and demand, energy transition, decarbonization, industry growth and/or decline, financing strategies, infrastructure challenges, energy security, hydrogen developments, carbon capture and storage, net zero pathways, indigenous engagement, and talent issues. It is impossible for one person to summarize the conference because there are multiple parallel tracks, a full poster and paper show, and dozens of talks and panel discussions. You simply can't take it all in. Then again, you can always form a point of view based on the dialogue you did take in, so here's mine.

Did California Do Something Right?. Once upon a time, in the year 2030, California had achieved its ambitious goal of becoming a zero-emissions state. It had taken years of hard work, dedication, and innovation to reach this milestone, but the people of California had done it. It all started in the early 2000s when California began to recognize the dangers of climate change and the negative impact of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment. The state government began to implement policies to reduce emissions, such as incentivizing the use of electric vehicles, encouraging the adoption of renewable energy sources, and imposing strict regulations on industries to minimize pollution. As the years went by, California's commitment to reducing emissions grew stronger. The state invested heavily in renewable energy infrastructure, built new wind and solar farms, and invested in research and development to improve battery storage technology. The transportation sector also saw a revolution as electric cars and trucks became increasingly popular, with charging stations popping up all over the state. By 2025, California had already made significant progress in reducing emissions. However, it was the year 2030 that marked a historic moment for the state. California had officially achieved zero emissions, meaning that it no longer emitted more greenhouse gases than it removed from the atmosphere. The impact of this achievement was immediately felt. The air was cleaner, the water was purer, and the natural environment was flourishing. People felt a sense of pride in their state, knowing that they were leading the way in the fight against climate change. The rest of the world looked to California as a shining example of what was possible when a society came together to solve a global problem. In the years that followed, other states and countries began to follow in California's footsteps. Governments around the world began to take action to reduce emissions, and the world slowly but surely began to move towards a more sustainable future. Looking back, it was clear that the journey to zero emissions had not been easy. There had been challenges and setbacks, but the people of California had never given up. They had worked together to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable state. And in doing so, they had paved the way for a better future for all.
