Tonight, on a Very Special Episode, the Waffles unpack the collective childhood trauma and weirdness that was...the Very Special Episode. From the silly - beer that turns you into monsters - to the differences between Canadian and American PSAs, to topics that were way too serious to be properly addressed in 22 minutes, they dig into the whys of this extremely distinct television phenomenon.
In this VERY SPECIAL EPISODE, we describe our first encounters with a film that is a mix of fiction and documentary fact. While that can be a bit off-putting, it doesn't much detract from the beauty and meaningfulness of Chloe Zhao's Nomadland. The lifestyles and people portrayed in this film are quite different from our understanding of #vanlife as depicted by millennial influencers. This is the story of a seemingly forgotten generation, a story of community lost and found, that spans the sublime and dangerous American West. Where do we go from here? That question has perhaps never been as relevant or as painful within the Whedony community as it is right now. It’s a difficult time to be a fan, as the recent and continuing alegations and revelations about the man that has, so far, given this entire fandom its name, force us to reckon with some hard truths. I thought this podcast could continue with perhaps just a passing mention of the controversy, but it quickly became clear that I, and thankfully some much smarter people than myself, would have to address this head on. And so I welcome you to this Very Special Episode of Conversations with Dead People. I ramble on uselessly, as usual, but two of my very favoritest people in the world, let alone the field of Whedon Studies, Nikki Stafford and Dale Guffey join me to talk about how and why all of this feels so much more personal than similar fallen pop culture icons; what, if anything, I should do with this podcast going forward; and what we think this might all mean for the Whedon Studies Association. It’s a horribly unpleasant topic of conversation, made so much more enjoyable by having it with such wonderful people. NEXT: Dale is sticking around to record the podcast we’d PLANNED to record this week. We’ll be continuing our journey through Angel: The Series with episodes 103, “In the Dark,” 104, “I Fall to Pieces,” and 105, “Rm w/a Vu.” LIBRARY Bite Me!: The Unofficial Guide to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Seven Seasons One Book), by Nikki Stafford Once Bitten: An Unofficial Guide to the World of Angel, by Nikki Stafford Faith and Choice in the Works of Joss Whedon, by K. In this week's episode, we're discussing Marvel's WandaVision S1E5 "On a Very Special Episode...". The joys of parenthood are keeping Wanda and Vision on their toes, but not every aspect of this picture perfect world is sitting right with Vision. Meanwhile, not everyone in the SWORD ranks agrees with what kind of threat they are facing...or how to deal with it. Just when it seems we can put the puzzle pieces together, an out-of-this-universe wrench gets thrown into the mix.
Securing embedded systems presents unique and complex challenges when it comes to organizing and assessing software assets during assurance activities. The closed source nature of the supply chain and volume of differing components has made this a onerous and costly activity -- IIOT World On this Very Special Episode of InSecurity, Matt Stephenson spoke with BlackBerry CTO Adam Boulton and IoT Security Services Lead Ian Todd about protecting embedded systems and how that applies to the automotive world and national public infrastructure. Do you know how to protect embedded systems? Do you know what they are? Do you know what that has to do with your water supply? These folks do… dig it About Adam Boulton Adam Boulton is a highly experienced and qualified software security professional, with over 15 years’ experience within security engineering. Having successfully accelerated through career progression, Adam is employed as the Chief Technology Officer for BlackBerry Technology Solutions About Ian Todd Ian Todd leads the BlackBerry IoT security services practice which has developed a set of security solutions for embedded systems across industries such as automotive, industrial, medical, defence and aerospace, transportation and robotics globally. About Matt Stephenson Insecurity Podcast host Matt Stephenson (@packmatt73) leads the Broadcast Media team at BlackBerry, which puts me in front of crowds, cameras, and microphones all over the world. I am the regular host of the InSecurity podcast and video series at events around the globe. I have spent the last 10 years in the world of Data Protection and Cybersecurity. Since 2016, I have been with Cylance (now BlackBerry) extolling the virtues of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and how, when applied to network security, can wrong-foot the bad guys. Prior to the COVID shutdown, I was on the road over 100 days a year doing live malware demonstrations for audiences from San Diego to DC to London to Abu Dhabi to Singapore to Sydney. One of the funniest things I've ever been a part of was blowing up a live instance of NotPetya 6 hours after the news broke... in Washington DC... directly across the street from FBI HQ... as soon as we activated it a parade of police cars with sirens blaring roared past the building we were in. I'm pretty they weren't there for us, but you never know... Every week on the InSecurity Podcast, I get to interview interesting people doing interesting things all over the world of cybersecurity and the extended world of hacking. Sometimes, that means hacking elections or the coffee supply chain... other times that means social manipulation or the sovereign wealth fund of a national economy. InSecurity is about talking with the people who build, manage or wreck the systems that we have put in place to make the world go round... Can’t get enough of Insecurity? You can find us at Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music & Audible as well as ThreatVector, GooglePlay, Gaana, Himalaya, I Heart Radio and wherever you get your podcasts! I don't even know how to process it all. This is definitely my favorite episode of the show so far but I'm sure it'll keep getting better from here. I do wonder just how many things they're seeding with this one series. Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-Man 3 clearly, a Fox Mutant finally crossing over, Captain Marvel 2 with Monica's origin (and maybe Kamala's, if the Maximoff anomaly replaces the comics' terrigen bomb), Young Avengers with Billy and Tommy, and I've even heard that the astrophysicist and large containment vessel mentioned could lead to Fantastic 4. All that to say, generally the projects that serve as MCU lynchpins (like Iron Man 2 and Age of Ultron) aren't looked back on favorably. Civil War was the rare one that managed to jumpstart characters and still hold up really well, and I'm happy to see that this show is living up to that incredibly difficult task. Keep it up Marvel!!! Apply for the Alchemical Business Intensive: https://thedirtyalchemy.com/abi Let's stay in touch!Join our free private Facebook Group!Instagram: @thedirtyalchemyWebsite: https://thedirtyalchemy.com TRANSCRIPTWelcome to our third very special episode! We’ve been doing the BAAMP podcast for over 6 months which is mind-blowing & so fun! When I started this podcast I had no idea where it would go, and it blows my mind to think we now have thousands of downloads and that so many of you come here to tune in every week. And I just love that there are so many of you out there using your magical businesses to change the world. We’re like this big beautiful magical community of people and it’s so cool having this chance to connect with you through this platform. So, thank you :)So for anyone new here, Very Special Episodes are where we deviate a little from what we usually talk about. We’re still talking about spirituality and entrepreneurship and how to use your business as a magical practice (duh) but with a fun turn from our standard teachings and interviews. We do Q&As, behind the scenes, what I’m loving right now — basically whatever you’ve requested to hear about.Okay, so starting with things that I have been loving right now...1. Robot Vacuumhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079QYYGF1/Lovingly known as our third pet, EufyMy favorite purchase of 2020Black Friday $100 purchase2. Rich As F*ck: More Money Than You Know What to Do WithBy Amanda Francishttps://www.amazon.com/Rich-As-More-Money-Than-ebook/dp/B08QY57GFY/I read this book as a part of her book club when she was writing it & had a very magical $30K unexpected check from an uncle I haven’t talked to in a decade.I realize that this may be a very strange result, but if you watch her IG Stories then you know that unexpected checks & money coming from crazy places & ALSO creating stable income streams are really common for people that participate in her work.+unexpected client referrals out of nowhere. Like 3 big referrals in 1 week.I went into it saying “This is going to change my life.”(which is something that I do going into any program I buy)And committed to taking the book & the journal exercises that are included in each chapter very seriously.Big bonus is that her approach is super feminine. Which is amazing for women business owners - creating businesses & making decisions based on DESIRES versus the “right” or “standard” or even “rational” way of doing business.Go binge it. It’s a quick & fun read. It’s worth it.3. Prepping for the Alchemical Business IntensiveOne final thing I’ve been loving… I have been having SO much fun preparing to start the Alchemical Business Intensive. You know when you fall in love with someone and you just can’t stop thinking about them? And even when you’re hanging out with your friends or doing other things all you really want to do is be back with that person? That’s how I feel about this program.I keep looking back at the sales page and just feeling so excited for the 10 women who are going to begin this journey with me in March, and I can’t wait to see the impact they’re going to have on the world. And it just feels so good and so powerful - and so juicy!! - to be reading through the applications that have been rolling in and feeling so connected to these women and their magical & spiritual businesses already. And I can’t wait to get to work. The program caps out at 10 women, so if you want to become part of this program, you can learn more about it on our website @ https://thedirtyalchemy.com/abi. Now, let’s take a look at some of the questions I’ve gotten from you recently…A lot of these questions came in from our Facebook group, Business as a Magical Practice, or on instagram @thedirtyalchemy.If you want to ask questions for the next Very Special Episode, which will be episode 44, you can post them in the Facebook Group or DM them on instagram.Okay, so.QUESTION 1: What should I do if one of my previous offerings doesn’t resonate with me anymore, but I know that it could continue helping other people?QUESTION 2: Should I pay for a tool to get followers on Instagram? Which is the best one?QUESTION 3: How many offerings should my business provide to my audience? I have so many ideas for great programs and I don’t know where to start.QUESTION 4: How do I know if my business is in the right place to Alchemical Business Intensive? I’m a mid-6-figures business owner and my team is just me and a virtual assistant. Yes yes yes. This is the PERFECT place to come into the ABI!You’re at a place where you have the funds to scale, to build a team, to spend on advertising, and you just need support and guidance on stepping into that CEO role & the nuts and bolts of the systems! The very minimum requirement for the Alchemical Business Intensive is that you have an offer that you love that you have already sold to people. If you don’t have a business or don’t have an offer or you haven’t sold anything in your business… this isn’t for you. You’ll be better served in a more beginner course that’s just teaching you how to get started online or how to sell! Also, this is for women selling services or online programs - so coaches, astrologers, web designers, or other online service providers, and people leading memberships, online courses, trainings, or masterminds. So… not local businesses or e-commerce stores that focus on serving a small geographic location or that only sell physical products. If you’re transitioning from one-on-one to online programs. This is perfect for you.If you have launched before but want to make it BIGGER without hustling or burning out, this is perfect for you.If you love love love your offer & you want to get it to way more people, this is perfect for you....And, just so you know, the first few people who apply and are accepted into the program will get a marketing strategy session with me, which is a 1:1 meeting that lasts a few hours, where I dig into your marketing & business strategy before the program even begins. That’s my thank you to you for being one of the first women to join this container and for taking the chance to infinitely scale your business & letting me be your guide on this leg of your journey. So if you want to take advantage of this special bonus offer, all you have to do is go to https://thedirtyalchemy.com/abi and apply to the program. Then we’ll have a 1:1 call to see if it’s a mutual fit. And if it seems like a great fit for both of us, we can go ahead with digging into your business and marketing plans and see what you can work on.That’s all I have for this week, friends! If you want to see more of what we’re up to planning for the Alchemical Business Intensive or just in general, head over the @thedirtyalchemy on Instagram. It’s no joke that I’m dropping wisdom in IG Stories. I’m committed to giving transformative business lessons there most days in Feb - you can watch all of those in the ABI and ABI 2 highlights too.Feel free to comment that you came from the pod because I just love engaging with you guys and having the chance to learn more about you and your badass business.Until next week... bye!

FEEDBACK [38:19] Oh8four Fri, Jan 29, 4:29 PM (2 days ago) to stargatepioneer We wanted answers? We got 'em!! The scene at the start with Monica unsnapping into complete chaos was everything I wanted and more. The episode could have been complete garbage after that and I would still call it a winner. But since it was decidedly not complete garbage, I'll keep talking! So many tidbits about the Rambeau family and its S.W.O.R.D. origins and I loved every second of it. I also loved how Darcy spent the last 10 years since we've seen her following in Jane's footsteps and becoming a doctor. My little continuity-loving heart has grown 3 sizes this day. I don't want to over-ramble, but something clear that stuck out to me is that Dotty and Agnes weren't identified by the task force in this episode. That definitely points to the Agatha and Mephisto theory for those two. Herb being identified as a real person might unfortunately rule him out as the High Evolutionary, unfortunately (cue sad trombone) There's so much more I want to gush about from this episode, but I'll cut it off here. So freaking excited!! Until next time OUTRO [41:51] Lauren, Michelle and Stargate Pioneer love to hear back from you about how you would rate the episode we just discussed, your top 5 Marvel character lists, your science of Marvel questions, who would you pick in an all-female Avenger team, or which Marvel male you would like to see shirtless. I was a peripheral visionary I could see the future, but only way off to the side -- Steven Wright, 1990 A Very Special Episode of InSecurity… Matt Stephenson hosted a web event with BlackBerry Senior Leadership including CTO John McClurg, Chief Evangelist Brian Robison, VP Research Operations Tony Lee and Director Threat Hunting & Research Claudiu Teodorescu. We had a chat about what they were looking at in the cybersecurity universe for 2021. They are particularly interested in the rolls that Cyber Attacks, People and Technology will play when it comes to securing the world’s data. Film writer/historian Lee Gambin returns to tell us all about the history of the very special sitcom episode! We count down 5 of the wildest episodes as Lee explains the social and historical history behind these educational, wild, and controversial departures from the typical television sitcom plot. His new two volume book "Tonight, on a Very Special Episode" features essays from Lee and a group of super-talented writers on the most notable examples of this genre from 1956 - 1998. Pick it up wherever! It's GREAT! (And I have a lot of film/tv books)
On a Very Special Episode of Great Disturbances, Paul and Rich talk (again) about the one that started it all: Star Wars. Or as future generations would come to call it, Star Wars: A New Hope. Our very first episode was all about this flick...but it never saw the light of day, as it died a horrible death when Rich's computer shuffled off this mortal coil. Spoilers abound in this VERY SPECIAL EPISODE where we travel back in time - back to the 80s - to discuss our initial reactions to Wonder Woman 1984. And guess what? We didn't hate it. But it did give us a lot of things to think on: the varied portrayals of female and male superheroes, the unfortunate treatment of Kristen Wiig's Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Wonder Woman's origins, Chris motherfuckin' Pine, and Wonder Woman's wardrobe. Tangents include: how the hell to pronounce Gal Gadot's last name, great hair days of our pasts, Teen Mom 2, and watching from home vs watching in the theater.
This week we're taking a little break from our narrative to bring you A Very Special Episode. No, it's not about peer pressure but we do talk about why everyone should be playing Stars Without Number (come on, all the cool kids are doing it) plus dish on answers to all the behind the scenes questions we assume you want to know! Why is Hilde such a fantastic and assertive team member? How come Mackie has the strength and dexterity of a 19 year old football player and, well, the intelligence of a 19 year old football player who keeps forgetting to wear a helmet? And why is Cullen always hoping Anton will just die already? Find out answers to some of these questions and more in our first ever discussion-based episode of Astronomica. PS: A brand new episode of Astronomica narrative next week, and (in Anton's voice) that's our guar-on-tee If you enjoy the show, please follow us on your favorite platform for new episodes every Wednesday. On Teencenter, we usually get right on the gravy train of wacky and ride it into the sunset. But once in a while we get deep, balls deep, in emotion. Listen as JP turns this into an 80's sitcom style "Very Special Episode", by talking about a really, really bad breakup. Like when Dudley almost got diddled by that bike owner on "Different Strokes".
