Patrick shares stories of his mother and her ability to light up a room whenever she walks in. "She's always herself," beams Patrick. Patrick attributes, her sense of humor to her brothers and he says "she's a little butch, not too feminine."  And all of that and more makes him love his mother even more. "She unadulterated herself. She never code switches or changes her behavior depending on the crowd. She always her most authentic self."Eight years of piano lessons was tough for Patrick. He didn't like the repetitive method that his teacher was using and he was bored. His mom eventually had to ground him for not practicing. But that's when he started exploring with little chunks, the melodies, the notes, breaking things down, playing them backwards and forwards until he absolutely fell in love with playing the piano. Patrick claims that his mom "gave him that space to be able to do that and what a privilege." He also admits that his ADHD was most likely a big part of the problem and today, finds great relief by taking a prescribed medication. Patrick's philosophy "even though life around you is chaos, you can still find an inner calm/inner peace, and my mom has that in spades. She can re-infect a room with her vibrancy so easily. She walks into a room and it lights up.""My mother knows that she's infectious around everybody else and so she's able to kind of manipulate that too to better suit the environment a little bit. She thinks everyone should be themselves, most authentically all the time.Below is the first first email response that I got from Patrick having asked if he'd be interested in joining me on SHLTMM."Hey Jackie. Thanks for reaching out! I love this concept for a podcast. My story fits perfectly for this since she's been a freelance true crime documentary writer for decades and she allowed me to feel confident in that space, just seeing her succeed and talking about the struggles in that space. I had a good role model. And also… she was the one who grounded me if I didn't practice piano lol, and now I'm a professional pianist so… I owe it to her for a lot of who I am today

I remember the first time I “Marie Kondoed” my therapy room and got rid of materials that were published before I was born. There were shelves of things I never used, and having so many options created unnecessary decision fatigue every time I sat down to plan my week ahead. Over time, I started investing in knowledge instead of flashcards and games. I found my students did better when I kept it simple. I thought my students would be bored, but they actually became more engaged and independent. That's why I was so excited to talk with Marisha Mets from SLP Now, who shares my passion for systems and frameworks that don't require complicated materials. Marisha Mets earned her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington. She has worked as a school-based SLP and shares therapy ideas and resources on her blog (SLP Now). Marisha also developed a membership for SLPs that includes digital tools and resources to streamline evidence-based therapy, including a one-stop caseload management solution that currently supports thousands of SLPs. In this conversation, we discuss:✅How to manage both physical clutter and mental clutter.✅Identifying the point of diminishing returns when it comes to organizing.✅Deciding when to use a batching process vs. habit stacking. ✅Defining the “containers” you use to manage your workflow and your workspace.✅How to identify your “staples”.✅Investing in materials vs. knowledge/skills. You can connect with Marisha on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/marisha-mets-9aa396133/Follow her on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/slpnowFollow her on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/slpnow/ Listen to my episode on the SLP Now Podcast here: https://slpnow.com/blog/how-to-write-iep-goals-an-expert-guide-for-slps/Learn more about SLP Now and read Marisha's free blog posts here: https://slpnow.com/The following resources were mentioned in this episode:“Outer Order, Inner Calm” by Gretchen Rubin: https://gretchenrubin.com/books/outer-order-inner-calm/“Atomic Habits” by James Clear: https://jamesclear.com/atomic-habitsIn this episode, I mentioned Language Therapy Advance Foundations, my program that helps SLPs create a system for language therapy. Inspired by a recent discussion in our Facebook group about the habits that aid in managing anxiety, I recognized the need to explore the often underappreciated practice of mantra. While meditation is frequently celebrated for its benefits, the concept of mantra deserves special attention for its unique ability to cultivate calm and focus through repetition. Drawing upon the teachings of Eknath Eswaran, a pioneer in the integration of meditation into Western education, I emphasize how mantra—derived from the Sanskrit words for "mind" and "tool"—serves as a method of centering our thoughts and invoking deeper levels of awareness. Eswaran's approach highlights how a mantra can become a living force in our lives, shaping our consciousness and directing us toward peace and love. I share personal reflections on my journey with mantras, including how consistency in practice has profoundly impacted my emotional landscape over the years. #AnxietyRelief #Meditation #Mantra #HealingJourney #InnerPeace #Mindfulness #StressManagement #MentalWellness #SpiritualGrowth #SelfCare #Wellbeing #EknathEswaran #RelaxationTechniques #PersonalDevelopment #EmotionalRegulation #CognitiveHealth #HolisticWellness #Breathwork #YogaNidra #SoundHealing #Affirmations #PositivePsychology #Resilience #TraumaInformed #SomaticPractices #NervousSystemRegulation #Neuroplasticity #Consciousness #Spirituality #EasternPhilosophy #WesternPsychology #ChristianMeditation #BuddhistMeditation #HinduMantras #SufiPractices #Prayer #IntentionSetting #DailyPractice #SelfCompassion #GroundingTechniques #PresentMomentAwareness #MindBodyConnection Learn more about your ad choices. “When snow falls, nature listens.” ~Antoinette van Kleeff When snow falls, nature seems to slow down. Everything becomes quieter and calmer. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could harness that sense of calm for ourselves? I believe we can. Hi Neighbor, Welcome you to another unplugged episode of Anchors of Encouragement, this one during a winter storm warning! It involves tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on a specific emotional issue or physical pain. This process can help reduce stress, anxiety, and physical pain. Origin of EFT EFT was developed by Gary Craig, a Stanford-trained engineer who combined elements of acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and other therapeutic techniques. He found that by tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on negative emotions, he could significantly reduce or eliminate them. 10-Minute EFT Tapping Template Here's a basic template you can adapt for your podcast: 1. Identify the Issue: Clearly define the specific issue you want to address. For example, "I feel anxious about my upcoming presentation." 2. Rate the Intensity: Use a scale of 0-10 to rate the intensity of the negative emotion. 0 is no intensity, and 10 is the highest intensity. 3. The Setup Phrase: Repeat the following phrase while tapping the side of your hand: "Even though I feel [negative emotion], I deeply and completely accept myself." 4. The Reminder Phrase: Repeat the specific issue you're addressing while tapping on each meridian point. For example, "I feel anxious about my upcoming presentation." 5. The Tapping Points: Tap on each point 5-7 times while repeating the reminder phrase: Karate Chop Point: Side of your hand Eyebrow Point: Between your eyebrows Side of Eye Point: Outer edge of your eye socket Under Eye Point: Below your eye, under the pupil Nose Point: Below your nostrils Chin Point: Below your lower lip Collarbone Point: Just below your collarbone Under Arm Point: Under your armpit Top of Head Point: Top of your head 6. Rate the Intensity Again: After tapping, re-rate the intensity of the negative emotion. You should notice a significant decrease. 7. Repeat as Needed: Continue tapping and re-rating until the intensity reaches 0 or a very low level. Additional Tips: Be Specific: The more specific you are about your issue, the more effective EFT will be. Use Positive Affirmations: After tapping, replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Practice Regularly: Consistent practice can help you manage stress and anxiety more effectively. Experiment: Don't be afraid to experiment with different phrasing and tapping sequences to find what works best for you. #EFTapping,#EmotionalFreedomTechnique,#StressRelief, #anxietyrelief ,#MentalHealth,#Wellness,#SelfCare,#AlternativeMedicine,
