Vision doesn't just shape your business, but your entire life.Today, Marty and I will explore the critical difference between pursuing what you love versus running from what you don't. Many entrepreneurs start by enduring the grind for a future payoff, but at some point, you need to ask: When do I start loving what I do?We'll break down our vision framework—a practical triangle that consists of Vision, Void, and Values—to help you define what you truly want, identify what's holding you back, and align your core priorities with your actions. In this episode, we cover:- Why your vision is the key to navigating challenges and making better choices.- The importance of defining your "perfect day" and how it serves as a blueprint for your ideal future.- How to recognize and let go of limiting beliefs and habits that no longer serve you.- Why vague goals like “financial freedom” won't cut it and how to replace them with concrete, actionable visions. This is more than just another conversation about success; it's about becoming the visionary leader of your life.
This is the second part of our Vision Framework: the Perfect Day. It's time to get intentional about your daily routine—not just those rare, idyllic days on vacation, but the everyday Tuesday. What does your ideal normal day look like? We'll explore why grounding yourself in the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day and how building a routine around what matters most can create true fulfillment. Whether it's meditation, time with family, or simply designing your day in a way that brings energy and joy, the Perfect Day is your foundation for success. This isn't just theory; it's the framework I use with clients, in retreats, and in my own life. If you're stuck in a rut, plateauing, or unsure of what's next, this episode will give you actionable steps to align your daily life with your bigger vision. What You'll Learn:- Why vision isn't just for your business, but for your entire life- How to structure your day for maximum fulfillment and productivity- The four segments of the Perfect Day and how to optimize each- Practical tips to implement your ideal routine starting nowStay tuned for more in this series of Vision and taking control of your life once and for all.

Welcome back to the Dible Dudes podcast. This week, we have David, Reid, and Nicole, the three co-founders of Digible to dive deep into a conversation that every company should focus on at some point in the lifetime of the business; the vision. In this episode, we talk about what inspired the start of Digible, how the vision evolved over the years, the framework used to develop Digible's vision, and some of the out-of-the-box strategies Digible uses to build a better work culture and make the world a better place. Whether in life, or a business venture, it's a crucial step to figure out the purpose, core values, and what your goals are. We start today's conversation with a brief review of how the Digible team made their purpose and core values clear and some of the things that inspired the whole business venture. In several of our previous episodes, we've talked about some of the books written by Jim Collins. The Vision Framework by Jom Collins is a great resource that helps entrepreneurs get their vision made clear. We dive deep into the technicalities of the framework and how it paved the path to creating and developing Digible's vision. If you search for #digibledogs on LinkedIn or Instagram, you're going to some of the little friends we have at Digible. And that is just one of the many out-of-the-box things we do at Digible to create a work environment that makes the typical day of work more exciting than ever. We talk about why Digible is dedicated to creating a better work culture, some of the strategies Digible utilizes to make it happen, such as introducing a four-day workweek, and how these efforts have improved the culture of Digible. Another area we explore in this episode is the BHAG, aka the big hairy audacious goal. We talk about Digible's BHAG, the process of defining the BHAG and its key components, Digible's long-term and short-term goals to expand the business, make its technology available for more users, and ultimately make the world a better place. [01:37] Purpose, Vision, and Mission – We talk about the journey of finding purpose, core values, and the ultimate goal for the company, and what inspired the business venture. [07:11] Vision Framework – Reid dives into the nuts and bolts of the framework used at Digible to develop the vision of the company. [12:40] Focus & Niches – David & Nicole discuss how they took into account the long-term expectation of the company and the short-term niches when determining the mission statements. [17:21] Employee Culture – Digible's plans of doing things differently in order to create a better culture in which employees can thrive and how Digible is dedicated to adopting the four-day workweek. [21:27] Progressive Change – Reid talks about some of the work DIgible is doing in order to be a catalyst for progressive change. [24:46] Future Plans for Technology – How Digible will be updating its technology to expand the business and make Digible's technology available for a wider range of users. [26:49] The BHAG – We talk about where the term B-HAG came from and what's behind the big hairy audacious goal of Digible. [32:56] Road to the BHAG – We talk about the importance and the process of breaking down the big hairy audacious goals into a set of key components. [37:40] Beyond Revenue – Why Digible is geared toward building a better, more collaborative work environment and making the world a better place rather than being a typical revenue-focused company. 43: What is Your Nonprofit Career Vision? 6 Questions You Need to Answer (Patton McDowell) SUMMARYThese are challenging times for all kinds of reasons, given the isolation of the pandemic, the obvious disparities of race and privilege we’re seeing up close, and the economic uncertainties that affect our personal and professional livelihoods. These existential questions don’t have easy answers, but nonprofit leaders are looking for guidance as they get their heads around them and evaluate what it means for their career journey. This episode of the Path includes a framework used in Patton’s coaching on Your Path to Nonprofit Leadership, including six specific questions that will help sharpen your goals and design a Vision Framework. We’ve all had more time to reflect these days, and these questions will give you things to consider and perhaps prompt a writing or journaling exercise. As a result, you’ll better articulate your long-term goals on the Nonprofit Path.ABOUT PATTONAfter starting his consulting practice in 2009, Patton and his colleagues have worked with the leaders of more than 230 nonprofit organizations. Before starting PMA Consulting, he spent a decade in higher education as Vice President for Advancement at Queens University after serving in the same role at UNC Wilmington, where he was the youngest vice chancellor in the UNC system. Prior to his tenure in higher education, he worked as the state Program Director for Special Olympics North Carolina and as an Assistant for Education & Training for Special Olympics International in Washington DC. Patton grew up in Elizabeth City, NC, and went to UNC Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar where he received a BA in English Education. He received his MBA from the McColl School of Business while working at Queens, and his Doctorate in Education (Organizational Change & Leadership) from the Rossier School at the University of Southern California. He is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), and a Master Trainer for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) International. EPISODE RESOURCESListen: New to Nonprofit? Which systems are absolutely non-negotiable? Systems for managing money? Time? Communications? In this episode Marina Darlow joins me to talk about designing and implementing essential systems to run a small business, and about building resilience by putting *good* systems in place. Marina Darlow is a systems' expert and a productivity geek. She sees her job as helping impact-driven entrepreneurs get 10-20 more productive hours a week, stop leaking money, and prevent stress-fuel breakdowns. An engineer by training, Marina founded Vision Framework, a company that builds small, purpose-driven businesses from the inside - helping entrepreneurs run their companies with ease by putting effective, easy-to-use, and fun (yep!) systems in place. Many Creative Warriors tend to think it's impossible to harness the thing they are best at: creativity. They think it's just a fountain that you let explode, and try to sort it all out later. There is a way to help with this, and it's by creating a solid system. It seems like rules would restrict your creativity, and a system would burn you out: but that's actually not true. A good system will allow your mind to do what it does best. It'll autonomize the tedious things that waste your time every day. The trick is to find the right system for you. When you make that discovery, you're going to make every moment in your life more valuable. You're going to appreciate your work more, have more time outside of your business, and get rid of the anxiety that being an entrepreneur brings. To dive deeper into this, I brought on an amazing expert on systems: Marina Darlow. Marina Darlow is a systems' expert, and a productivity geek. She sees her job as helping impact-driven entrepreneurs get 10-20 more productive hours a week, stop leaking money, and prevent stress-fuel breakdowns. An engineer by training, Marina came to a realization a couple years ago: working for a conglomerate is not as inspiring as she wants her life work to be. The quest for inspiration brought her to found Vision Framework, a company that builds small, purpose-driven businesses from the inside, helping entrepreneurs run their companies with ease by putting effective, easy-to-use, and fun systems in place. Download this episode today, and learn how you can build the right system that unlocks your creativity. THE SYSTEM WARRIOR “Systems that work well for you are one of the best cures for anxiety.” - Marina Darlow Highlights - People think you need to either be creative or follow the rules. It's possible to use rules and systems to give direction to your creativity. Not having systems dilutes the best of you. Systems help optimize your limited resources. Small business owners have to deal with a large range of emotions. There are methods and containers to help optimize your system. Too many people tend to neglect a project management system. You don't need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to creating systems. Let your system be your boss. Just sit and right stuff down, and you will begin to see patterns. The value of a system is making time more enjoyable.
