We talk with Julia Walda about the moment she realized she loved Jesus but did not actually understand the gospel well enough to live free. She shares how righteousness, renewing the mind, and rejecting lies reshaped her fight with lust, anxiety, condemnation, and self-hatred.• her shift from casual posting to intentional gospel teaching on social media• why she values local church authority over a self-made platform• growing up with a “do your best” Christianity and missing identity in Christ• dreams and encounters that convinced her God is real and Jesus is the only way• prophetic guidance around marriage and the wisdom needed in charismatic circles• purity struggles, deep shame, and counsel that normalized sin without empowering freedom• the gospel training camp where righteousness finally clicked• learning freedom as release from sin's power, not only future punishment• anxiety as fear fueled by lies, fought through Scripture and renewed thinking• “God doesn't make junk” as a turning point for self-image and healing• exposing lies out loud, declaring truth, and taking thoughts captive• practical view of the mind as trainable, like an algorithm• why she challenges works-based language that masquerades as holinessGo to TimothyGen.com, and follow Jules underscore Walda and Jacob underscore Walda on Instagram, and check out her YouTube channel for the upcoming gospel series called This Is The Gospel
In the late 1960s Detroit was ripe for revolution: a wave of urban insurrections had swept the country from coast to coast, and the 1967 Detroit rebellion was one of the largest and most consequential; Black auto workers who had experienced marginalization and discrimination in the industry as well as from their own union (UAW) were organizing grass roots resistance; and Detroit was a center of Black radical thought, notably fired by the presence of the Marxist leader CLR James, as well as James and Grace Lee Boggs. On May 2, 1968, 3000 workers at the massive Dodge Main plant participated in a wildcat strike, and soon the Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement (DRUM) was born, and workers began organizing radical caucuses at other factories. There are several useful accounts—books, articles, films—about the life of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers, its history and its impact, but with Motown and the Making of Working-Class Revolutionaries Walda Katz-Fischman and Jerome Scott add a necessary and illuminating element: Oral History. The focus is meaning as it's constructed by human beings—meaning made by actors in their particular situations—and this leads to story, to narrative, to approaches that are person-centered, shamelessly interpretive, and unapologetically subjective. Far from a weakness, the voice of the person—the narrator's own account—is the singular achievement of this work, a worthy antidote to propaganda, dogma, imposition, and stereotype.
On this episode, we speak with Walda Katz Fishman, longtime peace activist and writer whose work centers on anti-war organizing, Palestinian solidarity, and movements for global justice, and Jerome Scott, veteran Black liberation organizer and writer, and a founding member of the Black Power movement organization the League of Revolutionary Black Workers — about their upcoming event promoting their book Motown and the Making of Modern Revolutionaries. They will be hosting events promoting the book on January 19th at 5 pm — Oakstop, 1721 Broadway, Oakland and on January 21st, 7 pm at Medicine for Nightmares — 3036 24th St. San Francisco — Subscribe to this podcast: https://plinkhq.com/i/1637968343?to=page Get in touch: lawanddisorder@kpfa.org Follow us on socials @LawAndDis: https://twitter.com/LawAndDis; https://www.instagram.com/lawanddis/ The post Motown and the Making of Modern Revolutionaries w/ Walda Katz Fishman and Jerome Scott appeared first on KPFA.

This paper will assess the nature of the Ethiopian written intellectual tradition (mainly history of ideas), and its relation to the controversy on the authenticity of the texts, and their philosophical significance for Ethiopian and/or African philosophy studies in particular and history of ideas in human civilization in general. An examination of external sources related to religious, historical documents and the literature from scholarly research, and in-depth content analysis of the original Hatatas (the Ge'ez, Amharic and English versions) reveal both the exceptionality and situated-ness of the Hatatas in the Ethiopian intellectual tradition from which they originated. Informed by the careful analysis of scholars like Claude Sumner, I argue that the Hatatas are authentic and attributable to the Ethiopian Authors of the 17th century by examining new findings from the documents on Ethiopian history of the time, a rather untouched issue so far. While the social and historical context, the cultural bases and educational background of their authors bear the signature of Ethiopian philosophy, as outcomes of freethinker individual's rational reflection, they entertain elements of exceptionality. Regardless of the exceptionality and some possibility of European elements in the texts, one cannot deprive them of the Ethiopian soil in which they are grounded. But by no means are the Hatatas the sole examples of philosophical treatises, nor do they showcase a peak in the history of ideas in Ethiopia; nevertheless they can be examples that give us a flashlight in search of philosophical wisdom. Apart from their contemporary contribution to ethics, epistemology, metaphysics and social-political philosophy they are pathways to the studies of the hidden voices of the non-Western world.

“ You can't tell anyone this is my fault!” Archie said. “You just can't!” He'd snatched up a blade of his own, one too heavy for him to wield properly, although there wasn't much to be done about that. The entire way back to the Illager Mansion, he'd kept well behind Thord, making sure to stay far out of range of the bigger Illager's spells. He'd paid the price for being too careless around Thord once today already. He didn't care much to make that mistake again. For his part, Thord ignored Archie's pleas, with the exception of the occasional smug chuckle. Archie knew the evoker would sell him out the moment they got back to the Illager mansion, but he didn't see what he could do about it. He kept begging until his voice grew hoarse, and then he finally gave up.When they came within a bow shot of dimension dash a large three-story building in house most of the tribe – the other villages rushed out to greet them and Archie's stomach twisted in his guts he knew exactly how they were going to take the news of the raiding parties defeat and who they were going to blame if he left them.An idea blazing In his head, Archie set his jaw, braced himself, and raced out in front of Thord. The evoker growled at him as he passed him by, but with his injuries, he couldn't keep up. He barely even seemed to try.The Illager leader - a tall, skinny one by the name of Walda- stepped forward from the pack of anxious people who had gathered for news of the raiding party. Archie could tell by the disgusted looks on their faces that they already suspected how awful the raid had gone. No one ever came back alone from such a venture with good news.“A hero did it,” Archie told Walda. “He came up while we were fighting the undead mobs—and beating them—- and stole our victory!”Support the show

When the Inauguration came I did the only reasonable thing I could think of: I ran to my mommy. We will hear from Doña Edna, a retired RN, former union member, Independista, and my mom. Also, I interviewed Walda Katz-Fishman. Walda is a professor and one of the founders of Project South (www.projectsouth.org). She doesn’t pull any punches in this episode about what the political situation is going to be. But she also speaks plainly about what we need to do. This episode is another in the Feeling Political series, a collection that looks at the interaction of emotion, politics, and action.
