How creativity can fit into the seasons of your lifeGina Farrar has embraced many facets of her own creativity in midlife, and loves to share how doing so can be a great tool for self-discovery and expression. In this episode I talk with Gina about her desire to and experiences of homeschooling her two girls, and how those same girls were pivotal in Gina's rediscovery of and explorations in watercolour and acrylic painting. Gina emphasizes that creativity doesn't have to be confined to traditional art forms, but can be expressed through cookery, gardening, home decorating, and more, and discusses the challenges and joys of working on a moving, three-dimensional canvas, as she has done in the past through makeup artistry and body painting.Gina had a discouraging experience in art class in junior high, which she explains occurred at a particular season in her life that meant it hit her harder than it may have done at another time. Now, she can reflect on her current season of life, where she is evaluating what's next and making intentional shifts towards dedicating more time to her art. We also talk about Gina's podcast, Feminine Roadmap, which she started to create a platform for midlife women to discuss a wide range of topics, beyond just ageing and menopause. Above all, Gina encourages listeners – of Creativity Found and of Feminine Roadmap – to embrace creativity in whatever form it takes and to be open to trying new things without the pressure of perfection: revel in the act of creating and expressing oneself, rather than striving for mastery.CreativityFound.co.ukInstagram: @creativityfoundpodcastThreads: @creativityfoundpodcastFacebook: @creativityfoundpodcast and Creativity Found groupYouTube @creativityfoundpodcastPinterest: @creativityfoundResearched, edited and produced by Claire Waite BrownMusic: Day Trips by Ketsa Undercover / Ketsa CreativePlease vote for Creativity Found in the Women in Podcasting Awards.Click on this link, then on Arts and Design, then on Creativity Found. Anger, Pain, Fear, Aggression….Watercolours and laughs! As we know from our special on Britain's Best Sitcom, Spaced is in both Guy and Rob's top 5, so neither could contain their excitement when it came to talking about Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes and Edgar Wright's seminal turn of the century pop-culture-reference-a-thon.   Skip to the end….but there's more. Joining our very own Tim and Daisy was filmmaker Ross Birks, fresh from stealing a tank and trying to invade Paris, to lend his two penn'orth. We could have done a whole two hours on that, but of course, this is a movie podcast so what better than the film inspired by a short segment in an episode of Spaced, Shaun of the Dead?   The movie that spawned the genre Zom Rom Com was 20 years old at the time of recording and all three of our panelists made no secret of their love, quotability, and rewatchabilty of one of the most influential films of the 00s… despite itself making so many references to all three of the genres it drew from.   After a truly terrible showing in last week's quiz, who would break the deadlock this week with Ross' fiendishly difficult questions?   So let's take the car. Go to Mum's. Kill Phil, grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, listen to Britcom Goes To the Movies, and wait for all of this to blow over.   Simon Pegg and Jessica Stephenson in Six Pairs of Pants https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-ZkItmbFiQ   Edgar Wright directed Asylum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhzHQfSkg0w   Mash & Peas – John Littlerichard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaGF5z4hyzY   Spaced – One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFoU_GG38Tc   Spaced – Clubbing Scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_wVOA_95QU   Spaced – The Matrix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5kLk9gfK_w   Comic Relief Blankety Blank https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUC4un_G5AA   Big Train – Billie Piper fanclub https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_3oU-Z4Vxo   Shaun of the Dead trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIfcaZ4pC-4   Shaun of the Dead record throwing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qHAOY7C1go   Shaun of the Dead – Prink https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cJvDtF1ios   Edgar Wright's Don't https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czR4qJbkSuc

When you were a child did you ever have a particular passion or interest? Did it fade away as life and making a living took over? Or is it something that you have put off and you have been meaning to get back to? If you would like some renewed inspiration this episode is for you! Welcome to a captivating exploration of the harmonious marriage of art and industry, where the rhythmic hum of machinery provides the soundtrack to the dance of watercolor. In this episode, we journey into the world of David Poxon, a maestro of the brush whose vibrant works are a testament to the unexpected beauty found in the gritty, metallic landscape of industry and agricultural machinery. From his boyhood fascination with the rawness of his industrial surroundings, David now masterfully blends the austere beauty of machinery with the delicate nuance of watercolor. His work, an artful conduit between the severe precision of industry and the fluidity of pigment and water, invites us to explore the power of art to transform and to connect. We delve into the story behind his creations, the solace found in the rhythms of his brush strokes, and the strong ties that art can weave between the artist and the observer. With his journey serving as our canvas, you will hear about the sheer joy of creating something. Something that David encourages us all to experience. The principles that David talks about can be applied to any creative pursuit whether that be art, writing, music, anything in fact!Hope you enjoy the episode.Bio - David Poxon is a highly sought after  international water colour artist He is an elected member of the The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and a signature member of the National Watercolour society of America. He is regarded as one of hip-hop's greatest MCs with his powerful lyrical dexterity a key component in Public Enemy's international success, but what is less well known is that visual art was his first passion. It's a love that he has returned to in recent years and he joins Front Row to discuss the first collection of his watercolour and pen paintings. Plus author Jacqueline Crooks on her first novel, Fire Rush, which has been nominated for the Women's Prize For Fiction. 16 years in the making, it draws on many of the author's own experiences of loss, belonging and discrimination to create a music and memory-filled dramatic narrative. Willow Wolfe started off painting little wooden bowls with her grandmother and by 19 was teaching art in her own studio in Winnipeg, Canada. Today she is an award winning art teacher, the author of a library of internationally available books and the designer of best-selling brush lines for over twenty years. Her approachable style and step-by-step painting methods have taken her to events, seminars and engagements across the globe. She is widely recognized for challenging and modernizing today's world of art supplies and education.  At one point in this episode Willows shares a sweet story about how a thoughtful gift from her college boyfriend changed the entire trajectory of her life - And in fact was the seed for what would become one of the most important lessons underpinning all of her teachings. Homework this week is about Awakening the Artist Within  -  an important part of the process of coming into contact with this wordless, wise creative part of ourselves involves loosening the grip that our conditioning and experiences have had on us. We all have developed protective beliefs which over time, become parts of ourselves that can seem very real - like they are the real us. These parts have kept us safe, helped us navigate difficulties, chaos and even trauma in our lives. But they are not our true essence, they are survival mechanisms based in fear and ultimately are holding us back. We can begin to unwind ourselves from being led by these fear parts by looking gently at the conditioning itself. I have created a handful of journal exercises for you that will help you start to put some distance between you and these beliefs  - to observe them better, and to begin to notice and identify more with your boundless, infinite creative self which is how you will set yourself free creatively. WHAT WE TALK ABOUT- How we live with and perpetuate our own programming of the idea “I can't” -The importance of navigating the liminal space between “I can't” and “I can”  changing our own stories of what is possible for ourselves. She gives us her insights as a creative teacher of over 20 years for how to navigate that liminal space between i can't and i can.. As we work to change our own inner narrative-Resiliency and its role in our lives as artists-How choosing to be you is something only you can do, and how it is the only thing you came here to do-How art can connect us to the people we love-How even people who are supported from a very young age to pursue being an artist, we can STILL found ourselves paralyzed by limiting beliefs and the simple thing we must do to bust through this. -How a thoughtful gift from her college boyfriend changed the trajectory of her whole life-Learning a new thing often feels impossible, but if you look closely, it can often be broken down is a series of achievable steps. -Learning how to honour and get comfortable hearing no when it comes to your creative offerings, and how to see these moments as detours taking you somewhere even better -Learning the important messages no's can carry into our lives and how to look for their hidden meanings
