BROADWAY (& off-Broadway) REVIEW ROUNDUP!!!! I saw three amazing shows: Liberation, Romy & Michele, and Beau The Musical and I NEED to tell the Broadway Besties everything! In Broadway News:
Jim Sharman's The Rocky Horror Picture Show Cinema is art, Viewing Cinema is an artistic experience. We sit in the theater and drift into the beauty of a story that either entertains, explains, or enlightens. Sometimes all of these and even more. In 1975 20th Century Fox would distribute a film that would fail miserably with mainstream audiences, but would survive box office death and be reborn on the Midnight Movie Circuit. The Rocky Horror Picture Show has played non-stop since it began midnight screenings in 1976. With a rabid fanbase that acts out scenes, musical numbers, and improvised attacks on the action, the film has become a cinematic cultural experience . . . But, what is it, and is it actually a good movie? This week Mr. Chavez & I return to our shared experience with a NuArt screening, his return to the theatre, and my home viewing, alone in a dark room without any of the supporting distractions. This week we discuss Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and - a legendary - Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Take a listen as we dive into a month of Cult Films & Midnight Movies. It's going to be a good time. Reach Out: gondoramos@yahoo.com - Many, Many Thanks. A cult classic. The wholesome and chaste couple Brad and Janet (Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon) take refuge from a storm in the castle of the charismatic sweet transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania, Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

Send us a textKatie and Bridget learn about lips as they re-watch the 70's cult classic: The Rocky Horror Picture Show! Come along as we take you on a strange journey... Filled with corsets, Frankenstein monsters with bowl cuts, and songs that we don't understand the lyrics to. Hey - we said it was gonna be a strange journey! Our main stars are Brad and Janet, two PRUDES (I GUESS) who find themselves lost at Dr. Frank-N-Furter's castle; a place filled with music, boning, and apparently aliens. When the two unwillingly spend the night there they encounter a loss of clothes but a gain of STDs! So there's that! This movie asks the deep questions, such as: If you make a Frankenstein monster, is it the age of it's brain or the age of a newborn? Did this movie help or harm the general public's perception of transvestites? Why was Meat Loaf there and what the hell was he singing about!? All this and more in this movie that you'll wish you took an edible or a nap during. Released in 1975, starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O'Brien, Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell, Peter Hinwood, and Meat Loaf.

Welcome to this special bite-sized Bonus Episode of Revolutions Per Movie with Linus O'Brien, director of “Strange Journey: The Story Of Rocky Horror", which documents the cult phenomenon created by his father, Richard O'Brien. We talk about Richard's curious charisma, his personal struggles & his accidental creation of Rocky Horror, Drag Race's Trixie Mattel's early life-changing experience with the film, how Rocky screenings continue to provide a safe space for everybody to be their authentic self, Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon, Rocky Horror being the longest running theatrical release in the history of film (and how the Clinton St Theater continued to run the movie to an empty theater during the pandemic so the run wouldn't be broken), the amazing archival footage of teenage Michael Stipe of R.E.M. speaking in the afterglow of the movie while dressed as Frank-N-Furter, 70s newscasters trying to crack the whys of Rocky, the live shadowcasts and toast & rice, and how the legacy of Rocky Horror boils down to two words: community and connection. So please support this great film in person this weekend when it's being independently released in theaters all over the world, and continue to support indie!GET TICKETS TO STRANGE JOURNEY (in theaters this Friday Sept. 26th):https://rockyhorrordoc.com/LINUS O'BRIEN:https://www.instagram.com/linus.obrienREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. “It's just a jump to the left…” Join Ian, Megs & Liam for our 297th episode as we put on our fishnets, grab some toast, and throw rice in the aisles for a dive into the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Kev? He makes a very late entrance—literally busting through the door in gold hotpants shouting “Don't dream it, be it!” in our 297th episode as we discuss: Is this the greatest cult film of all time—or just the weirdest date night ever committed to celluloid? Do we forgive this film for its lack of consent based on the overall themes of inclusivity… when maybe we really shouldn't? How Tim Curry turned Frank-N-Furter into one of cinema's most iconic characters—and why no one else could've pulled it off. Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as “the straights”—and why they're the perfect foils for absolute chaos. We've got some thoughts on free speech and what's happening with Jimmy Kimmel—because much like Rocky Horror, controversy loves a stage. Why the soundtrack still slaps nearly 50 years later—and which numbers we still belt out. How the midnight screening culture kept this film alive—and whether fan participation is more fun than the movie itself. Which jokes land, which ones haven't aged well, and why the film still divides audiences. Is Rocky Horror satire, celebration, or just… unexplainable? And finally, whether The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the Best Film Ever—or just the best excuse to dress up and sing badly in public. The new Devoncast covers the biggest stories across the county. In Torbay, the parents of deaf children are angry at council plans to change the way schools cater for them, while in the House of Commons the local bus service gets a rough ride. Winemakers in East Devon are celebrating their success and there's news of a crackdown on rural crime. A long-running planning battle at Ottery St Mary has finally come to an end and an important wildlife haven in Totnes has been opened up to the public. Plus, Doctor Frank N. Furter - alias actor Adam Strong - tells us what we can expect when the Rocky Horror Show rolls into Torquay. It's all in the latest edition of Devoncast, from Radio Exe and the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Tonight on the show, we're diving into a trio of cult-favorite musicals that blur the lines between horror, comedy, camp, and tragedy: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975, starring Tim Curry), Little Shop of Horrors (1986, starring Rick Moranis), and the 2001 filmed stage production of Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical, featuring David Hasselhoff in a career-defining dual performance. At first glance, these might seem like wildly different productions—ranging from glam-rock alien chaos to doo-wop-infused plant horror, to a dark, gothic tale of split identity—but together they tell a broader story about how musical theater has embraced monstrosity as metaphor. Each of these works asks: What happens when the line between man and monster blurs? What desires are we really afraid of? And can we sing our way through the madness?Tim Curry's Frank-N-Furter is a force of nature—part scientist, part seducer, part destroyer. Rocky Horror was a revolution in form and content, upending gender norms, mocking genre tropes, and creating an interactive cult ritual that has endured for nearly 50 years. It's a cultural milestone not just because of what it is, but because of what it unleashed—a safe space for the weird, the queer, and the outsider.Rick Moranis' Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors gives us a very different kind of mad scientist: a nebbish pushover corrupted by power, ambition, and a bloodthirsty plant. The film (based on the Howard Ashman and Alan Menken stage musical) blends 1960s Motown stylings with Faustian tragedy, capturing the dark side of the American dream—and warning us what happens when we feed the things that promise us love and success. And then there's Jekyll and Hyde, the most classical of the three, but perhaps the most psychologically intense. Hasselhoff's performance—often memed, but undeniably committed—gives us a musical take on Robert Louis Stevenson's timeless story of duality. It's a sweeping, gothic powerhouse of repression, temptation, and the dangers of scientific hubris—a thematic cousin to both Frank-N-Furter and Seymour in ambition and eventual ruin.Reviewing these three together allows us to trace how musicals have uniquely adapted horror and moral ambiguity to the stage and screen. From parody to tragedy to grand melodrama, these stories use music to heighten emotion, build absurdity, and expose the deep fears and fantasies lurking behind every monstrous transformation. So grab your fishnets, your gardening shears, or your top hat and cane—we're about to explore the darker, stranger side of musical theater, where the monsters are often the ones singing the loudest.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Director Kirt Graves and actor Zeb Metzler join the guys to talk about The Birder on Broadway's production of The Rocky Horror Show. The show is a musical with music, lyrics and book by Richard O'Brien. A humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s through to the early 1960s, the musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist, Dr Frank-N-Furter, unveiling his new creation, Rocky, a sort of Frankenstein-style monster in the form of an artificially made, fully grown, physically perfect muscle man complete "with blond hair and a tan." Click on the link above for show times and ticket information. Then Kristen Ambose from Point Mortgage Corporation is in with more details on the the changes in interest rates, and what it REALLY means for folks looking to buy a home. This stuff can be pretty complex, but Kristen has many years of knowledge to help steer you in the right direction! Happy Anniversary to the original Australian company of The Rocky Horror Show - the production opened at the New Art Cinema, Glebe on April 19th, 1974. This outrageous musical has a book, musical and lyrics by Richard O'Brien, and is a tribute to the B-grade Science Fiction and Horror films of the 1930s to early 60s. It's premiere production was produced and directed by the brilliant Australian creative Jim Sharman, upstairs at the Royal Court Theatre on 19th June, 1973.The iconic Australian production was produced by the legendary impresario Harry M. Miller and directed by the brilliant Jim Sharman.A veritable who's who of actors filled the roles throughout its first Australian productions. The musical continued to host extraordinary talents in the flamboyant roles through the decades since, and the show has morphed through different production approaches to realise the camp tale of Dr Frank N. Furter and the disturbed, disruptive and decadent inhabitants of his isolated castle. The show awakens a sexuality and excitement in each new generation that witnesses the stage production, or the iconic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show: also directed by Jim Sharman and designed by celebrated Australian designer, Brian Thomson. The STAGES podcast featured Brian Thomson in a thrilling double episode. We've also been honoured to traverse the careers of many of the original Australian production's sensational cast, which include Maureen Elkner, Reg Livermore, Sal Sharah, and Kate Fitzpatrick. In this very special episode of the STAGES podcast, we recall the experiences of those artists in that very first Rocky Horror Show, and salute a musical that has become an intrinsic part of that theatrical form. The STAGES podcast is available to access and subscribe from Spotify and Apple podcasts. Or from wherever you access your favourite podcasts. A conversation with creatives about craft and career. Follow socials on instagram (stagespodcast) and facebook (Stages).www.stagespodcast.com.au
Pauline Murray kept a diary when she and Penetration were on the punk rock frontline and her vivid and emotional memories appear in a new memoir, Life's A Gamble, beautifully illustrated with personal photos, press cuttings, late ‘70s gig listings and other lovingly archived memorabilia. It teleports you back to a time when pop music made daily headlines and battles were lost and won in fragrant dancehalls and knackered vans on motorways. As does this podcast, recorded with an audience at London's 21Soho club in late November. Aged 14 she was travelling to London from County Durham and sleeping in railway stations to see the Pistols and the Clash. She formed Penetration in ‘76 and for two hectic years they were caught up in the whirlwind. This account of it all includes Alan Freeman, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Jonathan Richman, Tim Curry (as Dr Frank-N-Furter), why the deaths of Sid and Nancy has such symbolic significance, the female punk ‘sisterhood' giving her the cold shoulder, her unwise marriage, and the profit and loss statement of the debt she still owes Virgin (the annual reminders have never stopped). And she talks movingly about the experience every group endures when their first flush of mutual love and enthusiasm turns to bitter inter-personal fall-out. One of her kids was in the audience. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is, without a doubt, a Halloween movie. It's got blood, gore, murders, a creepy castle — what more do you want? And the best way to see it is in a crowd, so Big D flew 5,000 miles to experience his first viewing in a theater with props, a shadow cast and Gene Lyons. In this Shat The Movies Halloween Spooktacular commissioned by listener Jeremy, Ash joins Dick and Gene to discuss whether the "Time Warp" deserves to be the film's most famous song, whether Dr. Frank N. Furter is hot or dangerous and whether film reviewers should consider audience participation when rating a movie.
