Today on Women in the Nude, I open up about the weight of what we see in the world and how hard it can feel to stay human through it. I talk about caring deeply while protecting peace, about privilege and empathy, and about finding a way to keep feeling without shutting down. This is not about having answers but about being honest, choosing compassion, and holding on to hope even when everything feels too heavy to carry.

We live in an age of empire and resistance - a shifting geography of global power. The military, political and financial support of one country, the US, above all others has allowed a small country - Israel - to commit genocide in Gaza, to the horror of the vast majority of people worldwide. The US military, its corporations, its digital giants, its banks, and its culture continue to dominate globally. Yet at the same time, US-led imperialism has never felt more fractured and resisted. The heavily-resourced US army has been forced out of Afghanistan and was recently expelled from Niger. Nations such as Nicaragua and South Africa are taking powerful former colonial countries to court. Other international institutions, long seen as vehicles for exporting or enforcing US-led neoliberalism, such as the World Trade Organisation have seemingly run out of steam. The US is also increasingly isolated globally: Brazil, China, India, Russia and other nations are directly challenging its hegemony, and the US' dysfunctional democracy is less and less cited as a model by other countries. There is a growing popular sense that the post-Cold War neoliberal globalised order is in crisis. Is US hegemony really fading? Does any other nation, including China, pose any real challenge to US power, let alone offer a political or economic alternative? Has the heralded hope of a BRICS bloc collapsed amidst its contradictions? What would it take to build a more equitable and just new international political and economic order? In this episode, to properly examine where geopolitical or geoeconomic power lies today – and how it is being exercised and how that might be changing, TNI's Nick Buxton speaks to Adam Tooze, and Walden Bello. Adam Tooze holds the Shelby Cullom Davis chair of History at Columbia University and serves as Director of the European Institute. In 2019, Foreign Policy Magazine named him one of the top Global Thinkers of the decade. Walden Bello is a TNI associate and author of more that 20 books, a human rights and peace campaigner, academic, environmentalist and journalist who has made a major contribution to the international case against corporate-driven globalization.

For 90 years, the British Council has been creating connections between the UK and the rest of the world. Although much has changed over the decades, its central aim of bringing people together to support peace and prosperity remains crucial. In the final episode of our first season, host Christine Wilson is joined by Scott McDonald, Chief Executive of the British Council, to explore the main themes from the series—culture, connection, and empowerment— and offer insights into how the British Council builds bridges at a global scale through its work in arts and culture, education and languages. Together, Christine and Scott reflect on the organisation's 90-year history, how it has evolved to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world, and why the British Council's work is as relevant now as it was in the 1930s. And looking to the future, they discuss how the British Council can support the next generation to continue creating connections to build a more peaceful and prosperous world. Today's an episode of another download that I had in regards to what we deem successful and what makes us feel valuable in a world that is always judging us. Are we of the world? How much are we allowing the world to define our very existence? I reflect on these topics. Let me know your thoughts.

I wouldn't call this list “exhaustive” since we let the ADHD faeries carry our discussion wherever they liked, but I'm pretty impressed with this briefing:Key Takeaways:1. The episode delves into the complex intersection of art, culture, and artificial intelligence. It brings to light the implications of AI on our lives, potentially liberating us from the attention economy and the idea of work as a requirement for survival.2. The conversation touches upon the significance of local scenes in the era of globalization and scrutinizes the perils of celebrity worship.3. Intellectual property rights and ownership boundaries in the age of late capitalism are explored, sparking a debate about fairness and the redistribution of wealth in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world.4. The episode delves into socio-economic issues, discussing how rising real estate prices and the scarcity of affordable housing impact culture.Unanswered Questions and Potential Inquiries:1. How can AI be used to promote cultural diversity rather than appropriating and diluting it?2. How can the power of AI be harnessed to address socio-economic issues such as housing affordability?3. Can AI help us understand and navigate the complexities of celebrity culture, or will it exacerbate the problems?4. What does the future of intellectual property rights look like in an age of increasingly advanced AI?5. How can the insights of indigenous and black sci-fi writers inform our approach to the future?6. As technology continues to reshape our world, how do we maintain the importance of local scenes and individuality?7. How can the lessons of metamodernism inform our approach to the future, particularly in relation to technology and AI?8. Can AI play a role in addressing ancestral traumas, and if so, how?Overall, this podcast episode offers a thought-provoking exploration of the intersections of art, culture, and AI, sparking questions about our future in an increasingly AI-driven world.HA! Wow. There you have it. Brave New World - Reflections on Humanity by Aldous Huxley Huxley is often called one of the brightest minds of the last century, and I gladly agree. His probably best known book is "Brave New World" about society in the year 2540. In the future peace and freedom have finally become reality (or does it only seem so?). The painful experiences of a long war have produced a particular form of community that constantly disperses and primitively distracts itself with sex, consumption, and a new drug within a caste system (sound familiar?). The world is run by a single government, procreation takes care of breeding centers for humanity. Encouraged to promiscuity, marriage and family were abolished, people are "bred" in constant quantity. Yes, distraction, that seek today also the most! No matter whether cell phone, face book, television or cinema, we can be sprinkled so gladly, only not think, gladly still a few beers (if I already hear the belittlement (*chen), I drink NO alcohol), drugs are there now at each corner (also intoxicating means are TABU for me). This brave new world of Aldous Huxley I can highly recommend to everyone as reading, the way of life presented here is exactly the opposite of Buddha's teachings, enlightenment. In Huxley's utopia, people enjoy themselves to the bitter end and are distracted from reality. Isn't this kind of distraction too similar to the way people will live in 2020, have Aldous Huxley's visions of the future perhaps already arrived today? And do we really want to live like this, distracted, drugged up and remote-controlled? Constantly on the lookout for the next kick? A bit more brutal, a bit more perverted, more sugar, more drinks, stronger drugs, further, higher, harder, more boom? I for one don't want that! I don't like this brave new world in 2020, I find it artificial, alien, harmful. I like the way of the Buddha, the attitude of the holy man impresses me. Yes, everyone should be happy in his own way, I don't see the brave new world of Huxley as utopian at all. Many have already accepted this world as their new home. I, for one, do not want to go there. According to the historical Buddha, emptiness is form and form is emptiness. Art is the governor of utopia - Max Frisch - Swiss architect and writer - 1911 to 1991 Progress is only the realization of utopias - Oscar Wilde - Irish writer - 1854 to 1900 Socialism is not a utopia but a tragedy, that is the point today - Wilhelm Röpke - German economics professor - 1899 to 1966 Copyright: https://shaolin-rainer.de (Please also download my app "Buddha-Blog English" from the Apple and Android stores) Please rate us on Apple, Google, or Spotify podcast to help us promote the show

The Place of the Church in the World: Reflections on K. Schilder. A conversation with Dr. Marinus De Jong, pastor of the Oosterpark Church, Amsterdam. Marinus recently published his dissertation, The Church is the Means; the World is the End. This dissertation is a historical theological examination of Klaas Schilder's theology on the "place of the church in the world". Schilder is one of the most important "theological fathers" of the Canadian Reformed Churches but his teaching on "the place of the church in the world" has been mostly lost in the post immigration decades since the 1950's. Bill and Winston discuss Marinus' discoveries in researching and reading Schilder's many-faceted writings beginning in the years of the Great War and continuing through the rise of Nazism in pre-WWII in the Netherlands. You will learn of his public theology published in his newspaper, denouncing the NAZIs during the German occupation in the War years. Marinus tells of how Schilder was considered to be a literary critic before he was a theologian of merit engaging his contemporary culture with biblical critique. Though Schilder was not "intentionally" missional, he has much to teach us today about "the place of the church in the world".www.tyrannushallpodcast.cawww.facebook.com/tyrannushallpodcast
