Historian Louis Pulford reveals how a 13th-century religious persecution became the blueprint for centuries of persecution. The Albigensian Crusade (1209-1229) marked the first time the Catholic Church turned its crusading armies inward, targeting the Cathar religious minority in southern France. Pulford, who recently completed his PhD research on firsthand accounts of the crusade, traces how tactics developed during this campaign - from systematic interrogations to public marking of the accused - would later be deployed in witch trials across Europe and colonial America. By understanding how these persecution methods were first developed and refined during the Albigensian Crusade, we gain crucial insight into the mechanics of later witch hunts and how established systems of persecution could be turned against any marginalized group. Join us as we explore this pivotal moment when methods of mass persecution were refined and institutionalized, setting dangerous precedents that would echo through the centuries. A second-generation skydiver born to a father who'd managed to make hundreds of jumps back when “sex was safe and skydiving was dangerous”, Ellen Pulford had grown up with the lure skydiving even though both her jumping parents had hung it up before she was around. Late to the game by some standards, it had been the corporate game she'd been playing and playing well without much distraction, right up until that first tandem in her 30thyear. For a time she had both business and skydiving in her life, but a cancer diagnosis, difficult decisions and the supportive power of the skydiving community pulled her away from the so called “American Dream”. Now working hard at living, getting healthy and staying happy take top priority for this deeply devoted member of the Lunatic Fringe.

Today's ewes are more productive and efficient lamb-machines than their predecessors could have ever hoped to be. Yet even so, as veterinarian Dr Peter Pulford reveals, selenium deficiency can still put the brakes on their potential. A long-acting supplement might be in order. Proudly sponsored by Selovin LA Injection.
Ewe lambs are the future of your flock. Convenient, long-acting Se is one way to help them grow into healthy, fertile ewes, especially if you're drenching less to manage parasite resistance. Veterinarian Peter Pulford unpacks the benefits. Proudly sponsored by Selovin LA Injection.
By the time they have their first calf, you've already invested thousands in your heifers. The only way to get a return on that investment is through good growth, reproduction and longevity. Long-acting Se can make all the difference. Veterinarian Dr Peter Pulford tells us more. Proudly sponsored by Selovin LA injection.
Dry-off is a well-earned break for both you and your cows. But it's also a time when they may not get as much selenium as they and their unborn calf need towards the end of pregnancy. Veterinarian Dr Peter Pulford explains how long-lasting Se can help. Proudly sponsored by Selovin LA injection.
Beef cows don't spend much time in the yards and when they do, it's usually all about their calves. If you want more calves next spring – but not more yard work – giving cows long-acting Se at marking time could be worth a shot. Veterinarian Peter Pulford explains why. Proudly sponsored by Selovin LA Injection.
Neither grass, nor grazing animals, need cobalt in its pure form to survive. But animals absolutely need something only cobalt (or a supplement) can give them – Vitamin B12. Are your sheep and cattle getting enough? The answer is not as simple as it might seem, says veterinarian Dr Peter Pulford. Proudly sponsored by Prolaject™.
Vitamin B12 is essential for lambs to grow, but did you know they can't physically create it in their own bodies in their first few months of life? A fast-acting injection can keep them thriving from birth to weaning. Veterinarian Dr Peter Pulford explains. Proudly sponsored by Prolaject™.

An interview with Bradley Pulford, MD of HP South Africa, on the importance of technology to lifelong learning. Technology has, now more than ever, become a critical component to a learner's journey and ongoing success after school. The chalkboard and textbooks serve a purpose, but having access to an infinite wealth of information, dedicated resources and online learning through a practical 15-inch screen is radically more beneficial. Bradley Pulford, vice president and MD of HP Africa, joins the TechCentral podcast to talk about some of the offerings HP has in the market to empower Africa. While one would assume processing speeds, storage capacities and other important technical specifications would be at the forefront of the conversation, this was not the case. Pulford was very clear that just as important are security tools. He also elaborated on the fact that we all know that having access to a laptop device is a privilege but knowing what to do with it and having access to the materials is life changing. For more insights as a learner, a teacher or, indeed, as a parent, have a quick listen to this frank conversation and be reassured that HP is far more than just a technology hardware provider. Don't miss the discussion. Learn more about the programmes discussed in this interview: The HP Idea (Innovation and Digital Education Academy) programme offers teachers and educators the opportunity to create digital capabilities based on educational frameworks from leading international universities.
