Some things are just meant to be. And today's guests are an example of just that. When Young's ceased its London brewing operations in 2006, it looked to signal the end of a historic site where beer has been brewed since at least 1533. The brewery would officially close on 25th September 2006 but, thanks to John Hatch, a nano-brewery was kept on-site throughout construction and development. This ensured that Ram Quarter would remain Britain's oldest continuous working brewery. And two years later in 2008 a new brewery - Sambrook's - was founded just down the road in Battersea. In the decade that would follow, Sambrook's would go from strength-to-strength accelerating its need for new premises. And in the same period, development plans for Ram Quarter continued at pace. Thankfully its owners Greenland Group had developed a vision of the quarter's industrial brewing heritage through discussions with Wandsworth Council and other key stakeholders. Come 2019 Roger Mears Architects was appointed to work with Sambrook's Brewery on its relocation to the Ram Quarter. The project provided a solution to the vacant site addressing the setting through the creation of a working Brewery linked to a Taproom and a Heritage Centre and shop. And in opening its new site, the Sambrook's team would welcome the legendary John Hatch to their team. As someone who had kept brewing going on the site, brewery founder Duncan Sambrook and the team knew that John becoming part of Sambrook's made complete and total sense for all involved. As heritage brewer at Sambrook's John complements a brewing team led by head brewer Harley Williams, an experienced leader that helped oversee the move to the company's fantastic new premises. In this episode we speak to John and Harley about life in Wandsworth, John's storied brewing background, their love and commitment to cask and how, together, they continue to help make Sambrook's a beer destination in the capital that's not to be missed.

YOUTH, producer of a huge range of artists (including Kate Bush, Crowded House, The Orb, KLF, The Verve, Guns 'n' Roses and Primal Scream) and Jesse Goodman of the Allen Ginsberg Estate come to the Bureau to talk of the beat poet's impact on music and the British counterculture. We hear about Youth's 'Iron Horse' project and two albums of interpretations of Ginsberg's Fall of America poems by an astounding range of artists and we get deep into counterculture, the power of poetry, creativity and the possibility of a third summer of love.. -- Youth and Jesse will be with us in March, when we are presenting a program of happenings to celebrate Ginsberg's London Life. See the EVENTS page for full details. -- In May 1965, Allen arrived in London and gave a free reading at Better Books in Charing Cross Road. It was an event described by poet-provocateur Jeff Nuttall as "the first healing wind on a very parched collective mind” and one that provided the impetus for the International Poetry Incarnation at Royal Albert Hall, a hugely significant catalyst for the first British Summer of Love. Music featured prominently in Ginsberg's work - both in his self-accompanied performances and live collaborations with artists including Dylan, Paul McCartney and Patti Smith - and in the inspiration it has had on the wide range of musicians who have set it to music. We are taking an editing break for the rest of July while we recharge, plot, and plan our future world domination. So I thought to share with you one of my favourite conversations from last year. With Moira Ní Ghallachóir a story of home coming and making a huge difference. Talk about global impact. My guest on the show creates stories with her words and has captivated audiences worldwide with her powerful presentations. But how that all began is one of those stories of the unexpected. What does a girl do when some money arrives out of the blue just before her birthday? For my guest, that would normally have meant a party. But this year was different, it felt like there was a reason for this money to arrive. Moira Ní Ghallachóir was born in Donegal but left to explore the world. She was living the London Life as a youth worker. From her Instagram feed, she was having a ball. But in reality, it was draining her soul, and there was a desire for something more. When the money arrived with a birthday coming up, she saw it as a gift and packed a small bag, her journal and took the Eurostar to Paris. Sitting in a cafe, with coffee, croissant and journal, mulling over her future – the phone rings. On the screen comes up the word ‘Home'. That is the moment that changed Moira's life. It was the signal to go home to Ireland. On returning to Donegal she saw the place with new eyes and wanted to share it. She told the story and became a one-woman tourist development agency. Our conversation is about her journey from uninspired Youth Worker to Irish Tourism to Business Mentor and International Speaker. And as she explains, success is reflected in the transformative experiences. It's no secret I have fan-girled over Ash London for a long time. Prior to moving to Australia I admired her broadcasting style on air as she always kept away from yuck salacious gossip and was genuinely interested in the artists she interviewed. RESPECT! She keeps it real and is a beautiful, soulful light in this often discombobulating world. She also loves a colourful outfit... Double respect.Ash and I have many weird parallels in our life in recent years and I wanted to get her on to discuss decisions made and lessons learned. Asylum Speakers Podcast with Jaz O'Hara: Stories of Migration
Today we share the story of how The Worldwide Tribe began.I'm joined by my brother Nils who has been there with me every step of the way. From that first life-changing trip to Calais, to speaking at the UN Headquarters in New York less than a year later. He coached me through my nerves, unpicked my imposter syndrome and laughed through the negative comments. He was the stability I needed when my emotions got the better of me. Together we visited camps in France, Greece, Turkey, Jordan, Croatia, Italy and more, and went on to set up projects and spread the word in schools and events together. Now, Nils focuses on running Jangala Wifi - a project started by the Worldwide Tribe, Richard Thanki and Samson Rinaldi, that has gone on to be a charity and social enterprise in it's own right, providing connectivity in emergency situations all over the world. Through our conversation we share how this journey changed our lives forever, and how we went from working in the advertising and fashion industries in London, to creating this global community of people who care.Support the show (https://www.justgiving.com/prism-worldwidetribe)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/asylum-speakers-podcast-with-jaz-ohara-stories-of-migration.
