"Hey, come on PEP Talk and tell our listeners about this great evangelistic tool you've made!" we said. "Of course!" they said, and...here they are.Chris Sinkinson serves as Associate Minister & Programme Director for the School for Discipleship at Lansdowne Church, Bournemouth. He has previously worked for UCCF and served as a pastor in three local churches. He taught theology for many years at Moorlands College and has a PhD in Theology from Bristol University. Church of England revs with a difference Daniel French and Jamie Franklin sit down with "orthodox ordinand" Anna Mayo, one of the two leaders of the group of 78 trainee vicars who this week have petitioned the Church of England House of Bishops to desist in their attempts to move the church away from orthodoxy in the areas of marriage and human sexuality. In a wide-ranging conversation, we consider the long-term consequences of the proposed liberalisation of the Church's teaching and practice and we review a recent letter of dissent, signed by twelve bishops, which expresses concern that the proposed course of action is divisive, unorthodox and that it is being pushed through without regard to the obligations of good and proper governance. After that we select interesting issues from the week: Jamie reviews the unfolding controversy around the University and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF) and Daniel follows up on some Twitter exchanges on Israel that came after the release of the episode last week. That and much much more as ever!To contact Anna: orthodoxordinands@gmail.comPlease Support!Support us on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/irreverend) or Buy Me a Coffee (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/irreverend). From a cross-cultural guest, today's episode picks up two different strands to sharing faith. First, how do we respond to those who reject their experience of church, even those who have suffered spiritual abuse? As well, what can the contrast between "Christian" and "secular" cultures teach us about conversations centred on Jesus? In both areas, it can be tricky to unpack the individual's experience from the true gospel.Inonge Siluka grew up in Zambia and moved to Scotland with her family when she was 14. She studied law at university after which she did some student ministry with UCCF and training with Cornhill Scotland. She works full time for a Cancer charity, and is also the founder of Restored Hope Zambia, a Charity that supports Church abuse survivors in Zambia. She is passionate about evangelism and theology and runs Overflow Chat, a blog and YouTube channel aimed at encouraging women and girls in their evangelism and faith. First, we cover an article he wrote in the Fall of 2020 which articulated his understanding of how the state had over-reached and over-realized its ability to control a disease based on faulty assumptions regarding humanity and God. Next, we discuss the concept of resisting the state in the mind of Calvin. We explore the next generation of Reformed perspectives on resisting tyranny and how that informed a variety of viewpoints related to the relationship of church and state. Finally, we discuss the idea of being a magisterial baptist. Do baptists have a place within the magisterial reformed tradition? What limits are placed upon government in the Christian tradition? Watching the final Relay races at Tokyo reminds me of the start of the Relay Programme in the UK. The idea of this internship was born in a chat with Nigel Lee walking round a golf course in Leamington Spa. I had known him for a number of years through OM and he had recently started working with UCCF. I was planning to finish my time with the organisation at the end of the year and he asked “If I was trying to persuade you to stay to help lead some change and you could do anything you wanted to do, what would it be?” This is number thirty six of a series that began life as a commitment to Counting my Blessings every day after ankle surgery on July 2nd 2021.Initially I made a brief post on social media and wrote a personal daily reflection on a Psalm following the same numerical progression.Later on in the 100 days I began to also reflect on other scriptures and combine those into my public postThese thoughts from Psalms earlier in the journey have not been made public  until now as I was writing primarily for my own benefit. I have been encouraged to share these now.

Our special guest is Krish Kandiah (PhD, Kings College London) the author of the book Paradoxology: Why Christianity Was Never Meant To Be Simple. It seems that the God of the Christian faith is full of paradoxes. A compassionate God who sanctions genocide. An all-powerful God who allows horrific suffering. A God who owns everything yet demands so much from his followers. A God who is distant and yet present at the same time. Many of us have big questions about God that the Christian faith seems to leave unanswered, so we push them to the back of our minds for fear of destabilizing our beliefs. But leaving these questions unexamined is neither healthy for us nor honoring to God. Rather than shying away from the difficult questions, we need to face them head on. What if the tension between apparently opposing doctrines is exactly where faith comes alive? What if this ancient faith has survived so long not in spite of but precisely because of these apparent contradictions? What if it is in the difficult parts of the Bible that God is most clearly revealed? In his new book Paradoxology Krish Kandiah makes a bold new claim: that the paradoxes that seem like they ought to undermine belief are actually the heart of our vibrant faith, and it is only by continually wrestling with them—rather than trying to pin them down or push them away—that we can really move forward, individually and together. He is also the founder and director of Home for Good, a charity finding homes for foster children and young refugees. An international speaker, he teaches regularly at Regent College and George Fox Seminary, and is the author of several books, including Home for Good. Krish is the vice president of Tearfund, a Christian relief and development agency. Previously, he was president of London School of Theology and also on faculty at Oxford University. He has also worked with students in the UK with UCCF, and in Albania with IFES. Krish lives with his wife, Miriam, and their seven birth, adopted, and foster children.
