Film Fights is an offbeat movie discussion podcast in which two films go head to head in a battle of genre, style, and wit. It's up to hosts Jono and Konrad to wade through each movie's shortcomings and/or glory through mucking about and radical tangents to declare a new champion every week. And like most competitor sports, there is drinking, yelling, and sometimes blood.
Jono Rodriguez & Konrad Hartman
Wow! Film Fights Podcast hits its 50th Battle (not episode), and what better way to celebrate this occasion but with two 80s childhood fantasy movies! Interestingly enough, BOTH films feature not only a youth interacting with a storybook world (directly or indirectly) but also have parent(s) that are introduced in the opening and to never be seen or heard from again. Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon capture this moment with a very special guest - the very funny (and fellow film-o-phile) comedienne Dani Bee!ALSO! Get pumped for what Film Fights has planned for next year! A spin-off SCRIPTED horror comedy series that poses the question on all you lovely spectator's minds: What if Kon 'n Jon were monster hunters...?Intro/Outro and Review the Reviews Theme by Math the Band.
Happy Halloween Lovely SPOOKtators! Here's a bonus episode, ripped from the archives and gutted for your amusement! Last year, Kon 'n Jon recorded this Film Fights Franchise Frenzy, exploring the first 4 original Texas Chainsaw movies just before their lives got turned upside down (which resulted in the show taking a break). But here it is, unearthed for the world to enjoy! Leatherface? I hardly know her face... Yea, that was reaching for straw. Straw from a scarecrow. BECAUSE HALLOWEEN!Stay tuned next month for our spectacular 50th BATTLE with a VERY special guest!Intro/Outro by Math the Band. "Hey Now Everybody" by They Might Be Giants (from "Fingertips" medley).
Hello again BOILS & GHOULS and Lovely SHRIEKtators! Resident Film FRIGHTERS, Kon & Jon continue their journey down memory LAME with Are You Afraid of the Dark. On this episode, Konrad & Jono discuss The Laughing In the Dark and The Pinball Wizard (The Tales of). Happy Halloween! And we'll see you on the 31st (wink)!Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band. Stay tuned for new series "Hard Talk With Hard Dicks."
Boo-urns! It's that spooOOky time of the year again, Lovely SHRIEKtators! And your resident Film FRIGHTERS, KonDEAD & Jon(OH N)o, are here to muck up your precious childhood! But in all seriousness, Are You Afraid of the Dark is a classic anthology horror series that found itself targeted at kids but appealing to all ages. On this episode, Konrad & Jono discuss The Hungry Hounds and Dark Music (The Tales of). Will there be a winner? Will there be a part 2 later this month? Will there be another Halloween surprise? The answer to all of these questions is a resounding "yea no duh".Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band.
We do want to close our eyes. We do want to fall asleep, 'cuz we don't miss anything really - we're pretty sharp. Except when it comes to judgement calls on what movies to watch! This time, we decided to visit a (not at all) innocent time when film studios respected each other and didn't try to release the exact same premise to a movie mere months apart in order to milk a seasonal trend. It's the end of the world as we knew it, and we were actually pretty okay with it. Listen to Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon battle through this classic duo of films to discover just why the heck was Robert Duvall such a cranky crab. Or why Bruce Willis was such a cranky crab. Or why Cranky Crabs™ never took off - WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THAT THING I JUST MADE UP JUST NOW BACK THEN?!?!Intro/Outro and Review the Reviews Theme by Math the Band. Opening bit by Eddie Izzard (from Glorious). Don't Wanna Miss a Thing slowed and reverbed by Future Jono.
If you thought we were going to discuss the TMNT original movies without touching on the Godfather III of this conclusion, you are SO wrong! From bad animatronics and bizarre plotting to questionable character motivation and nonstop quipping, this was (at the time) the proverbial nail in the TMNT film coffin. Uniquely, Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon each saw this movie when it originally released in the theater in 1993 (7 years before they each met in IRL real life). They only watched it one more time for this show, 21 years later. This is their analysis.
COWABUNGA! Yo bro, it's time for Turtle Power in the studio apartment studio as your resident Film Fighters discuss these nostalgia-tinted ninja classics. Before CGI, there was Jim Henson - a true hero in a half shell! And also a "sometimes" working animatronic giant talking rat.In all seriousness, thank you to all our supporters and listeners during our (way too long) hiatus. We hear your words of kindness and battle ideas. We are working hard to keep this fight going and look forward to bringing you all the scares and the smiles that fill us up with joy-joys! Please rate, review, share and subscribe - it means the world to us! Thank you!Intro/Outro by Math the Band.Review the Reviews Theme by Crazy & The Brains.
Happy Independence Day you wonderful Lovely Spectators! Speaking of 4th'ses's, OhEmGee! It's Film Fights Season FOUR!!! And we're kicking it off with a BANG (wink wink) with a Battle of the 'Merica! Who will win? Nick Cage's hairpiece? Or Will Smith's cigar? Find out on this very special and exciting episode of FILM FIGHTS!In all seriousness, thank you to all our supporters and listeners during our (way too long) hiatus. We hear your words of kindness and battle ideas. We are working hard to keep this fight going and look forward to bringing you all the scares and the smiles that fill us up with joy-joys! Live from Dallas Comedy Club, famous Film Fighters, Kon 'n Jon, present these two classic 90s slasher films! Well, one of them more classic than the other. Which one? I think the answer is obvious, but tune in to find out WHY! Special thanks to the wonderful James Prewitt.
This is the end. The end of Film Fights. Season 3. Going out with a BANG, Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon finish this wonderful run of battles with a hot new game show called Back of the Box! Who will be crowned "You're Winner"? Tune in to find out!On a rare serious note, we would like to thank the Lovely Spectators for tuning in to the show and all their support. We will be taking a brief hiatus as we transform from Film Fighters to Life Fighters but will return in time to celebrate Independence Day. Additionally, there will be more live shows coming up, a video series, and more silliness to come! Dare we tease... Film Fights Adventures!?
Finishing up our Spring Time Vexed Vamps theme is the Nic Cage Dracula film, Renfield, which focuses on the titular character, played by Nicholas Hoult. Goofy, gory, and refreshingly different than the current landscape of paint-by-numbers flicks of late, will Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon prove that the entire world really HAS gone mad and that Renfield is GOOD ACTUALLY? Well, we're not reinventing the wheel here, but it's nice to see Cage be a Dracula.
Spring Time is here! What a perfect time for Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon to discuss the VERY specific genre of 90s Vampire Romance Horror (the Rom-Vom, if you will). So take a bite out of these tearjerking lovey dovey horror(ish) films, and you'll be turned into Waah-mpires! Yup. That terrible joke was absolutely worth you reading this. Please listen, rate, share, and subscribe. Thanks.
It was inevitable that Evil Dead Rise would pop up in your Film Fights feed after that Deadites Franchise Frenzy. These are the times, Lovely Spectators! When opinions are white hot, and Intellectual Properties are played safe. Your resident film fighters are not sure about the critical climate lately, but if Evil Dead has taught us anything, it's to go AGAINST the grain! With extreme prejudice! Also, it's the debut of Film Rights™.
What's YOUR Boomstick? Email us at battles@filmfightspodcast.com! Spring time is coming and Deadites are in the air. And your resident Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon are gearing up for a nice trip to an old cabin to revisit the Evil Dead series. Listen in HORROR as the discussing of The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness will have you questioning your sanity! But seriously - why wasn't the 3rd Evil Dead called "Medievil Dead"?! Oh, and Jono goes on a nerd-fueled rant about the comic books and the TV series Ash vs Evil Dead.
Last week, Kon 'n Jon took to Game Fighting by discussing Sonic and Mario games, but now that the be-sneakered Blue Blur and the red-capped Jumpman have hit the big screen, it's time to take them to task - the Film Fights way!
Gotta go fast! So let's a-go and talk about two of the most recognizable and successful video game franchises ever created! Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon turn GAME Fighters while discussing some gaming memories and critiques of these once rival mascots. Stay tuned next week when the Game Fighters turn back into Film Fighters for a special battle of these lovable characters as they take to the silver screen...
What's the matter, Sport? All that Seagalin' making you THIRSTY! Then EXIT WOUNDS the Gift Shop and pick up a sweet refreshing DMX Energy Drink! "The drink that makes you THIRSTIER!"Drink it all in, LOVELY SPECTATORS - we're finishing up our SEAGAL SLEAZE with this 2001 NOTbuster Exit Wounds! Don't bother asking for SECONDS, because this movie feels like HOURS! Sorry about the all-caps and that weird curveball metaphor at the end there. DMX is rubbing off on us.Intro/Outro Music by Math the Band.
Remember when Steven Seagal wasn't an embarrassing, racist, sexist, lying, unfunny, phony baloney jerk with zero self-awareness and even less charisma? No, seriously, did that ever happen?Tangents include: Hard to Kill Weekly, Real Life Wife, Fancy Slob, Sardines & Milk, Crook Magazine, Tommy Jones' Two-Face, Under Fridge, Mullets & Bullets, Honolulu, Steven Stallone, Anvil Steel, and The Birds vs Bee Movie.Intro/Outro and Review the Reviews Theme by Math the Band.
Movies get remembered. Classics never die! After our last battle of Baseball Kids Movies, we conclude our outing with a true legend, The Sandlot! Lifeguards hooked up with children, Dogs were eating people, and Smalls was killing EVERYONE! Unless you've seen this movie, this description sounds insane - and honestly, even if you have seen this movie, yea this description is bonkers! Bonus fact: While this is Jono's millionth time watching this week's Singlie, Konrad is popping his Sandlot cherry!Tangents include: Drinkball, Star Gwars, Eye Steak, 50s Microwaves, Frank Welker, Steg-o-Steak, and Mary Kay Cadillacs.Intro/Outro Music by Math the Band.
Batter up! And we're talking about cake batter! Yep. That's about as involved in baseball as we get here at Film Fights, so we are enlisting the help of a good friend, Jamie Gravitt, to join us for this special Baseball Kids Movies Battle! Which movie hits the home run and goes to the Stanley Bowl? One of them, probably! Also, are these movies allegories for Christian propaganda!? No.Tangents include: Sports Bar Kids Movie, Nolan Ryan Mounds Bar, Oil Field Baseball, Bike Turn Signals, Rookie of the Year The Musical, Air Bud of the Year, Dad's D**k, Fantasy Baseball, Fathering a Baseball Team, Baby Angels, McConaughey's Lincoln, Pennant Talk, and Christian Allegory.Intro/Outro by Math the Band.
When you're on a roll, you are butter, and butter is hot - just like John Travolta was in 1996! And yes, that metaphor was super smooth - as smooth as this Summer schlockbuster, Broken Arrow! Keeping the theme going from last week, Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon finish up Travolta's '96 catalog with a movie that marks the ONLY time in "Siskel and Ebert" history that Roger Ebert convinced Gene Siskel to change his thumb rating from Up to Down!Tangents include: Dawson's Creek, Future Jono the Pickler, Un-un-boxing Videos, Nuclear Sportsball, Air Force Fashion Show, Butterflies, Stock Screams, John Madden Rom-Com, Alternate Ending, Burger Sex, and Tupperware.Intro/Outro Music by Math the Band.
After the success of 1994's Pulp Fiction, John Travolta found an incredible resurgence in carrying big money-farming films. And lo, 1996 reared its grungy head and produced a trio of Travolta brilliance (citation needed) by way of a wise and charismatic Angel and a down-to-Earth dum dum genius. Boil up some books and get ready to learn how to eat a lemon, because it's Film Fights Time!Tangents include: Carmen Sandiego, Movie Ages, Etsy Chairs, Smartness, Book Soups 'n Stews, Nostradamus, Alphabet Animals, Buffoon/Baboon, PopeCorn, Subway Waivers, Delicious Brain Surgery, The Gabriel Band, World's Biggest and Flattest, Country Western Lyrics, How to Eat a Lemon, and Jello Jail.Intro/Outro by Math the Band.
Happy Valentine's Day you Lovely Spectators! Continuing from last week, love is still in the air, and to wrap up this Battle of the Teen RomComs, your resident Film LOVERS - Kon ‘n Jon - discuss the 2001 Spoof Movie that is last week's film battle mushed into a single ridiculous comedy (plus some other movies I guess).Tangents include: Jono's Dyslexia Again, Child's Play 4: A New Hope, Porn Versions of Parodies, Pie Cutting, Film Fights Spoof, Dyslexia's Jono Again, Tough as Nails Jesus, He's All That, and Kiss Me Thanos.Intro/Outro Music by Math the Band.
Love is in the air, and so are weird high school bets that force (questionably) young men to date (questionably) young women in the year 1999 wherein these fellas learn a valuable lesson about judging a book by its cover while the ladies warm up to being taken advantage of for a few weeks. Yup! It's another classic Battle of the Classics, helmed by your favorite no-nothing know-it-alls for Film Fights: Valentine's Edition! Plus! A brand new segment - The Good, The Bad, and the FightersTangents include: Bambi vs Nosferatu, Food and Scary Guy Podcast, Sun With Sunglasses, Softmores, Bananas and Stop Lights, Too Many Books, Bob A. Ganoosh, TLC and Other Timeless Hits, Hacky Sack Hero, 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Hate About You, Cliques and Stews, Pregnants Man, Concussion Discussion, D.A.R.E. (Don't Ask, Really, Ever), Cashew Cheese.Intro theme by Jens Lekman; Outro by Math the Band.
Film Fights Stickers! WANT SOME!? HAVE SOME!! Email us at battles@filmfightspodcast.com!OMGRobots! For those who were thinking this movie was a cheap Child's Play knockoff, guess what? We thought so, too! M3GAN makes fools of Film Fighters and Lovely Spectators alike. We close out our January Trash Movies with a film that (by all accounts) probably shouldn't belong in this category. But one could argue that the titular villain was done dirty not just by frightened Hollywood execs but a rushed A.I. algorithm that-- you know what, just watch Short Circuit 2. You'll understand.Tangents include: Comedy SFX, Mount Everest aka Mount Cemetery, Robot In the Family, Furry Chandler, Drill Bots, Short Circuit Knowledge, M3GAN Photo Studios, TikTok Song, M3GAN Meter Dash, CSI Detective's Tight Five, The Sandwiches ‘n Cockroaches Bit, Fresh Gender Rolls.Intro/Outro Music by Math the Band.
It's that wonderful time of year again - when Hollywood has nothing to promote for Award Season OR Summer Blockbusters! That magical period when cheap productions yield profitable returns in a time when no one wants to go to the cinemas! Though it seemed difficult at first, Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon found the "perfect" battle in the January dumpster fodder by way of Plane starring Gerard Butler and The Devil Conspiracy starring Uncanny Flat Lighting!Tangents include: Movie Theater Floor Dog, Lox Cream Cheese, Jono Cannae Do Accents, Better Daughters, Accidental Manslaughter, Mistakes On a Plane, SLAYover, Whirlpool Exerciser, Butter Daughters, Piccolo Soloist Album, Ricky Martin, Give a Hoot Eat a Boot, Alpha Lucifer, Bobbing For Chicken Strips, More Doors from Mordor, Jesus Reads Sports Illustrated.Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band
Ever get the feeling that you've been reliving the same scenario everyday? Or perhaps that that you've been reliving the same scenario everyday? If so, then UH-OH! Looks like you've been Groundhogged! Allow Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon to give you the Same Day Treatment with their thoughts and opinions on the squirrely gopher in this freezing new Singlie!Tangents include: Batting Cages, MILFs & Younger Dads, Bill Girly, Biscuits ‘n Gravy, Grand Theft On Auto, Cupid vs Icarus, Breads ‘n Spreads, Grandmaster Slam the 9th, Man Movies, Bennigan's Kilkenny Salad, The Andie MacDowell Tangent, Hand Lasagna (Again), Same Day Treatment, Ned TalksIntro/Outro Music by Math the Band.
It's that suspiciously warm winter time again! And while resident film fighters Kon 'n Jon are cursed/gifted with the gift/curse of No-Snow, the mention of the very niche sub-sub-genre "Snowed-In Horror" brought about the classics - John Carpenter's The Thing and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Which film do YOU think will be victorious? Well, it doesn't matter, because whichever the answer is, Konrad is totally wrong about [spoiler]Tangents include: James Bond, Jesus Carpenter, L'Objet de Toilette, 'They Live' Fight Scene, Bloodscicles, Tommy Tarantula, Helicopter Murder, Dr. Shaquille O'Neal, Dunking On the Stars, The Blair Thing, Oven Family, Cigarettes For Breakfast, Kubrick's Stacks ‘o Books, Tony the Finger.Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band.
You know how they say that Christmas never ends? First off, who said that? Seriously. Like, what were they thinking? Were they high? What does that even mean? Secondly, of course it ends. It immediately ends. For some, it ends before it begins! But for Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon... yea, it also ends - in fact, it's not even worth mentioning really. Although, it may not be surprising that Jono (not so secretly) does not like Christmas movies. Well, some Christmas movies. Quite a few actually; enough to indicate maybe he doesn't actually hate Christmas movies but wanted to discuss the annoying logic of them in a mini episode!Tangents include: Rudolph the Coke-Nosed Reindeer -> Jurassic Deer, Soused Singles for Santa, The Santalorian, Cuffing Season, Romantic Christmas Movies, Gritty Horror Remakes of Kids Shows.Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band.
Christmas In July is overrated. It's time for Summer In December - which is Texas living to a T - which is akin to black gold - which is what Jed referred to when describing an oil eruption in a pond when "shootin at some food". Speaking of food, it's a Summer Camp Battle with the handsome hams from Heavyweights going up against the lonely losers of Camp Nowhere. Which one will win the Family Day Apache Race Cheese Whiz Candy Secrets- wait what were we talking about?Tangents include: Towel Allergy, Lake Milk, Brain Bath, iCarly Generation, Dog Shave, The Tony Perkis Connection, No Sex Dad, Jonathan Frakes: Fact or Fiction, Cheese Pun Debates, Tom & Jerry Pie.Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band.
In a world where Santa is real and is hardcore and is come after by bad guys and has a moment where he must face his dark past and overcome adversity with renewed confidence and make dumb selfish people believe in him despite him being real the whole time, comes an exciting trailer that completely falls short of its expectations in every way! No, we're not talking about Fatman. It's Violent Night! The critically acclaimed Christmas action film that makes people think they liked a movie just because of a handful of silly moments that somehow overshadowed long, drawn out, and boring scenes. But what did the Film Fights guys think of it? Have a listen and find out!Tangents include: Frozen Orange Juice, Breakfast Sugar, A Terrible German Chocolate Cake Metaphor, Combos™, Violent Night Mall Santa, The Fight Coordinator's Work History, The Power of Belief, and Medieval Doctor Tips.Intro/Outro music by Math the Band.

Find out RIGHT HERE!Tangents include: Car Batteries, Interstellar Tangent [Gender Swapped Muppets -> Muppet Pastor -> Hannibal History -> Sound of Muses -> A Christmas Song], The Odd Weapons, 14 Year Old Girls (the band), Moon P'Eyes, Buds's, Jackie Chan's Mr. Nice Guy, A Christmas Carol, Soup Cases, Box 'o Butter, Meat Bar -> Food Gloves, Super Dutchio Brothers, Carl Wind-In-the-Winslow, Robert Evans.Intro/Outro by Math the Band.
We hope the Lovely Spectators had a wonderful and deservingly gluttonous Thanksgiving! With leftovers to tide over til Christmas, Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon are Sweatin' to the Foodies this week as they discuss memorable foods from memorable movies - with MANY suggestions from fans and friends alike! Still reeling from overload of Halloween horror movies, we turn to the next best thing about yesterday's holiday: Candy! But what kind of candy? The best kind - John! It's a tale of two Johns in this case as the Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon discuss the John Hughes / John Candy films Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors.Tangents include Konrad's Superlatives, Modern Buck, Erick Merrick's Bones, Film Fights Pancakes Packages, Name Brand Cereal, Lollygagging Alligators, Getting Away With Not Getting Caught, Prayer Limit, Trading Places Shared Universe.Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band.
Time for another Pancakes episode! What are Pancakes? Other than a delicious breakfast treat, it is what we call our Outtakes episodes. "Why not just call it Outtakes?" Why indeed!During October's Franchise Frenzy last month - in which Film Fighters Kon 'n Jon watched and reviewed 40 horror films over 4 episodes and a live show (thank you for your continued support)! - it's understandishable that some episode recordings ran PRETTY long, and necessary edits were needed before release. After scouring some of the best japes and tangents, we've compiled a wonderful stack of Pancakes to tide you lovely spectators over until our next full length episode, which will be back to form - classic Film vs Film format!
Happy Halloween you Lovely Spectators you!We come to the end of our Franchise Frenzies for October - many thanks to those who came to our LIVE finale of Nightmare On Elm Street - and have concluded with a malicious mini to perfectly cap this (nearly) 40 film affair! Also, we field fan-suggested mini battles for this special occasion!Tangents include: Freddy Vs Jason: The Musical, Shuck Shock, Shuck Shake, “Let's just say…”, The Odd Couple of Maniacs, Freddy AND Jason, Battle Guys, The Old Affair, Chucky Rap, Oscar The Grouch's Rap.Fan Battles Mentioned: Sally vs Jack Skellington , Sandworm 3-Way (Beetlejuice vs Dune vs Tremors), Ash vs Leatherface, Robocop vs Terminator, Robocop vs Johnny 5 (Short Circuit), Demonic Toys vs Chucky, Blade (Puppet Master) vs Chucky, Rocky vs Rambo.

He's a doctor? He's a vampire? He's a villain? He's a hero? It's a Spider-Man-Verse/Venom-Verse/Marvel movie? I guess all of those things? Sure! Because Sony is on a roll, baby! He's awesome!Tangents include Milkshakes and Milkshapes; Marinara Trench; The Predator at home, work, and play; and AVP: Alien vs Predator.Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band.
In space, no one can hear you scream. But in the space of the studio apartment studio, the hunt will soon begin. And we'll be screaming alright. For the best Alien/Hunter film ever! [chainsaw sfx] AHHH! Oh no! Look out! It's another one of those Film Fights Singlies! Yuppers, nothing to fear here - just a bunch of laughs with a whole ton of filler. JUST LIKE THIS MOVIE!!! It probably goes without saying that the Family Saw has gotten pretty dull after NINE installments, so there is probably not much hope for a tenth after this butchered beast. But hey! If the movie's a lemon, let yer Film Fighters, Kon 'n Jon, mutilate it til the sour in your mouth has gone south. South to Texas - YEE-HAW! [does any of that even track- who wrote this dribble?!]Tangents include Fruit Leather Man, Bull Dick Dog Treats, Movie Making Chef!Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band.
In a world where silly nicknamed criminals reign supreme, there comes a time for Batboys to become Batmen. Our resident Film Fighters take a look back at how the film game changed for DC's Dark Knight and where it currently lies. Is it better? Is it worse? Will Kon 'n Jon go ham on tangents this time? Welcome to our first Singlie episode! What's a Singlie? It's a silly fancy way of saying single. As in, we discuss just one movie and fight each other. Spider-Man: No Way Home was arguably the best Spider-Man film Marvel has done to date, tying up some loose ends and creating a means to continue on without Spidey's BIGGEST villain - Sony! But what do Kon n' Jon think of this behemoth film? Prolly the same; Check it out!Tangents include Other Movies, Pr0n, Duck Grindr, Mario 2, and Pedro Parker - Hombre Araña (The Ricky Ricardo Spider-Verse)!Intro/Outro Theme by Math the Band.

Both are legacy horror films with legacy characters finding new audiences (and possibly new sequels). While the original films still hold up due to their timeless nature and staying power, which of the newbies will take the title for this match-up?
