Today on Beating Cancer Daily, Saranne is joined by Jacqui Bryan, a functional medicine expert, to uncover the essential role of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in brain, eye, and heart health. Jacqui provides a comprehensive understanding of DHA's multifaceted benefits, the importance of acquiring it through food sources, and its significant impact on combating conditions like "chemo-brain." Together, they explore the historical misconceptions about fats and the importance of integrating DHA into a balanced diet. Jacqui Bryan is a certified nutrition specialist, whole health educator, health coach, and registered nurse. With her extensive background in functional medicine, Jacqui has successfully guided many individuals to improve their health through nutrition. Her expertise encompasses various health domains, making her an invaluable resource for those seeking to adopt a holistic approach to well-being. “Nutrition is the foundation of health; with every bite,  we have the opportunity to fuel our body the right way.” – Jacqui Bryan Today on Beating Cancer Daily: ·     DHA is crucial for brain, eye, and heart health and must be consumed through diet as the body cannot produce it independently.·     Saturated fats were historically replaced by sugar in processed foods, leading to increased rates of heart disease and diabetes.·     Omega-3 fatty acids, including DHA, EPA, and ALA, provide vast health benefits, with DHA being particularly important for brain performance and memory.·     DHA has notable anti-cancer properties and aids in alleviating symptoms associated with "chemo-brain."·     Fatigue, dry skin, poor memory, and circulation issues can be signs of DHA deficiency.·     Fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines are rich sources of DHA, while vegetarians might consider algae oil supplements.·     DHA supports heart health by lowering triglycerides and reducing systemic inflammation.·     Remember to consult healthcare providers when integrating new supplements or significant dietary changes, especially during cancer treatments. Guest Contact Information:Jacqui Bryanhttps://www.jacquibryan.com  Resources Mentioned:ComedyCures Foundationhttps://www.comedycures.org Monterey Bay Safe Seafood Guidehttps://www.seafoodwatch.org/ Environmental Working Grouphttps://www.EWG.org  The #1 Rated Cancer Survivor Podcast by FeedSpot and Ranked the Top 5 Best Cancer Podcast by CancerCare News, Beating Cancer Daily is listened to in more than 91 countries on six continents and has over 300 original daily episodes hosted by stage IV survivor Saranne Rothberg!   To learn more about Host Saranne Rothberg and The ComedyCures Foundation:https://www.comedycures.org/ To write to Saranne or a guest:https://www.comedycures.org/contact-8 To record a message to Saranne or a guest:https://www.speakpipe.com/BCD_Comments_Suggestions To sign up for the free Health Builder Series live on Zoom with Saranne and Jacqui, go to The ComedyCures Foundation's homepage:https://www.comedycures.org/ Please support the creation of more original episodes of Beating Cancer Daily and other free ComedyCures Foundation programs with a tax-deductible contribution:http://bit.ly/ComedyCuresDonate THANK YOU! In 2017, Adam Tjolle accidentally discovered he had a brain tumour. At the time, presenter and close friend Claudia Hammond followed him on his journey before, during and after undergoing life-changing surgery. Meeting up now in Malawi, Adam and Claudia listen back to the old recordings and reflect on what has changed for Adam since his operation. Adam still lives in Scotland, but his new life after brain surgery sometimes brings him to Malawi, where he works with the Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA). Claudia joins Adam and Dr Tino Razemba at one of the LSPCA's ‘spay days', neutering local dogs in underserved communities. As well as getting involved, Claudia has a chance to see Adam's passion first-hand. Prior to his surgery, Adam's prognosis was a life expectancy of seven years. That time period has now passed. So what does life mean to Adam now? And today, as one in two people born after 1960 will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point, what can the rest of us can learn from Adam's experience of living with uncertainty?Presenter: Claudia Hammond Producer: Sophie Ormiston and Paula McGrath

If you want to know more, I've recently published interviews with John Grant, Steve O'Hara-Smith, and Gerald McMullon concerning their involvement with the New Brain back in the day.  I also, in the most recent episode, discussed tech specs around the machine with my co-host. Regarding that, in that last episode, to help me talk about the machine, I enlisted Chris Espoinidis to co-host this episode.  Chris manages the New Brain Emulator site from his home in Greece.  Even though Chris created one of the premier New Brain emulators in existence, and that was the primary focus of his Web site initially, his site has become one of the best places (along with Gerald McMullon's Website) to get any and all New Brain information (which quite honestly is quite sparse). The focus of this last episode detailing the machine, Chris and I will cover things like peripherals, Web sites, books & magazines, software, using the machine, emulators and all of the topics that have become the standard for machine coverage on Floppy Days.  This episode will complete all the details we know on the New Brain, with the intent to impart every bit of information to you that I could find about this little-known machine. Before we do that, I will talk about upcoming shows. As you know, I've been hot on the trail of pioneers who were involved with development of this machine.  I've recently published interviews with John Grant, Steve O'Hara-Smith, and Gerald McMullon concerning their involvement with the New Brain back in the day. We are currently covering computers that were released in the year 1982; a banner year for personal computers.  It's actually going to take quite some time to get through this year in history. This is the second episode about a computer that few in the United States know much about.  It was released in the UK and even there didn't get much traction.  It was a unique beast, with its own personality and quirks; before it went quietly into the annals of history.  The machine I'm talking about is the Grundy NewBrain. As it was so relatively unknown, I'm going to be spending a lot of air time talking about its history: in the last episode (Episode 131) I summarized its history, including a short interview with John Grant of Nine Tiles, whose company did some work on the machine This episode contains an very informative interview with Steve O'Hara Smith, who was involved with development of the machine The next episode will have an interview with Gerald McMullon, also having done some work on the early NewBrain, as well as support after its release Finally, there will be 1 or more episodes to cover the usual topics of tech specs, Web sites, emulators, etc.  I will have a special guest co-host for that. So, as you can see, there's a ton of upcoming information about the NewBrain.  Please join me in learning more about this unusual machine. Before we get into this interview, I'll let you know what I've been up to and have been able to acquire lately; which continues to grow seemingly beyond my control. That brings me to some administrative news.  In order to provide maximum flexibility for my listeners, I'm going to start publishing a timeline in the show notes.  It will have a time marker for each section of the podcast, so that, for instance, if you want to jump straight to an interview and re-listen to just that section, you can do so.  This is an easy thing to provide, with the audio editing software I use, so from now on expect to see that information in the show notes. Joe Barros is a New York-based stage director and award-winning choreographer working on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally, and internationally. Joe recently directed and choreographed two national tours of A Charlie Brown Christmas (Gershwin Entertainment), the new musical Love and Yogurt in New York, the musical Aida in Singapore, and A New Brain at Five Towns College on Long Island. New York credits include the Broadway revival of Gigi (associate director, directed by Eric Schaeffer) starring Vanessa Hudgens and Victoria Clark, Cagney (associate director, directed by Bill Castellino), the New York premiere of Dan Elish and Douglas Cohen's The Evolution of Mann Off-Broadway (starring Max Crumm and Allie Trimm, cast recording on iTunes and Spotify), the world premiere of Marc Acito and Amy Engelhardt's critically acclaimed rock musical Bastard Jones Off-Broadway, Nine at CAP21/Molloy College, Out of the Box Theatrics' Alice in Alice's (Alice in Wonderland at Alice's Tea Cup with a company of actors with disabilities, co-writer, world premiere at Weathervane Theatre), I Married Wyatt Earp at 59E59 Theatres (Prospect Theater Co./NY Theatre Barn), Hard Times (NY Innovative Theatre Award Nominee for Best Choreography, NY Times Critics' Pick), Debra Barsha and Hollye Levin's A Taste of Things to Come (associate director, directed by Lorin Latarro, York Theatre Company, Bucks County Playhouse, Broadway in Chicago), and the world premiere of Cheryl Stern's Shoes & Baggage (The Cell). With New York Theatre Barn, Joe produced the new musical Sam's Room, inspired by real stories of nonverbal teens who find a way to communicate. Héctor Flores Jr. is a multi-hyphenate Latino theatre professional whose work meets at the intersection of art and advocacy. Héctor was born in New Jersey and raised by his Puerto Rican grandmother and his single mom. Luckily his mother believes in cultural enrichment & education which instilled a hunger for knowledge, art and change within him. The artform that chose him, however, wasn't made in his image. After being a first-generation college graduate Flores embarked on a career in musical theatre that continues to inspire him to find new ways to break barriers for Latinx people.  Hector is the president of Theatre Barn Records. Theatre Barn Records is a new imprint of Broadway Records and is dedicated to original musicals in development. New York Theatre Barn, which has served as a home for new culture shifting musicals during incubation since 2007, has been evolving its unique development-based programming since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a new program of New York Theatre Barn, Theatre Barn Records will support writers in recording and releasing concept recordings of new musicals in development on global streaming platforms. Theatre Barn Records offers a worldwide marketing platform for musical theatre writers and has the potential to create revenue for writers while their show is still in development. The focus of Theatre Barn Records is to continue to incubate and elevate projects that we are already developing while evolving our storytelling systems. In this critical digital age that we now live in, EP's and concept albums of original musicals in development are potentially the fastest and most lucrative ways that musical theatre writers can now be noticed, supported, and advanced while their shows are in development.

An episode re-watch where I'm not sure we've ever laughed this hard? Yes, please!! Even with the boisterous laughs and the occasional tangent, our list of general wondering-ments still warrants some attention. Is Guadalajara/La Guardia the best Joey joke of the series? It might be. We're pretty sure anybody would call in a noise complaint over how loud those bagpipes are. Susan Sarandon is a legend and George Stultz is not...let's discuss! Joey's character on Days of Our Lives is coming out of his coma via a brain transplant which means the character of Jessica Lockhart is being killed off the show. So, Joey asks the actress, Cecilia, to help him learn how to play Jessica so that she can live on. Phoebe and Rachel see a cute guy leave his cell phone behind at Central Perk and proceed to fight over who should get to be the one to return it and, thus, begin their digital fairytale. Ross learns to play the bagpipes for Monica and Chandler's wedding.  All clips are property of Warner Media. Find us on Instagram! Thank you for listening and for sharing. Throughout history, cultures around the world have used different solutions for social lubrication. And while many of us have been socialized to think that alcohol is the best way to relieve social awkwardness and have a good time, it comes with many negative unintended consequences. So, what's the alternative? That's a question that Botanic Tonics founder, and today's guest, JW Ross, set out to answer. After struggling with alcohol addiction, JW wanted to find a solution for his social awkwardness that wouldn't have detrimental effects on his body. He deeply researched the plants used by different societies worldwide, and that's when he learned about kava. Where alcohol amplifies you, kava calms you down.
