This week on The About Her Podcast, Abigail answers listener-submitted questions. Questions answered in this Ask Her Anything include: What is fasting and why do Christians fast? What should women do if they want to work in vocational ministry but don't see job openings? How can women not give into a secular message of self-care while also stewarding their health, body, time, and resources well? A lot of “Christian” books and teaching aimed at women seem to be focused on personal strength, empowerment, success, etc., instead of on Christ. Why do you think that is? Do you have any tips for leading a small group Bible study? How did you find good Christian community after you graduated from College? How often do you and your husband go out on dates? How do you prioritize time together? What does your work morning routine look like? What do you do to rest? What are you consuming right now? I've been wanting to start a podcast for a while. This week on The About Her Podcast, I chatted with Gracilynn Hanson about the ontological question, "What is a Woman?". Gracilynn is a wife and a mom of two boys, and she and her family currently live in Austin, Texas. She recently completed her PhD at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, located in Louisville, KY. Today we discuss the subject of her dissertation, formally titled: Establishing a Framework for Female-Gendered Embodiment in a Redemptive Context. Don't worry, she thoroughly breaks down this academic title throughout the episode, but if we were to sum up the content of this dissertation in a single question, that question would be: What is a Woman? Specifically, Gracilynn addresses this question from an ontological perspective and evaluates the intrinsic nature of the female. She focuses less on what women do and, instead, gives attention to what the Scriptures say we are. She traces what is true of women in our intrinsic nature from Genesis until now. Dr. Gregg Allison served as Gracilynn's academic supervisor and much of the content of today's discussion is consistent with Dr. Allison's book, Embodied: Living as Whole People in a Fractured World, as well as Nancy Pearcy's book, Love Thy Body. Lydia is originally from the Pacific Northwest, and graduated from George Fox University with a Bachelors of Arts in Biblical Studies and a minor in Philosophy. She previously worked in a variety of non-profit organizations addressing the needs of at-risk children, women facing unplanned pregnancies, and refugees. She is eager to encourage others toward biblical literacy, and to normalize hospitality and edifying friendships within the local church. She also currently lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and is a member of Emmanuel Church. I discovered All Things Bright And Beautiful shortly after their podcast launch earlier this year. I was so encouraged to find another podcast with female hosts who love God, love His Word, and love chatting about how we ought to apply God's word in our daily lives. In this week's episode of The About Her Podcast, I chat with Sam Allberry about Singleness, Sexuality, and Biblical Friendship. Sam Allberry is a pastor, apologist, author and speaker. He is the author of Is God Anti-gay?, 7 Myths About Singleness, Why Does God Care Who I Sleep With?, and, most recently, What God Has to Say About Our Bodies. He has also written extensively for a variety of organizations including The Gospel Coalition and Desiring God. I had the wonderful privilege of learning under Sam Allberry as a student at Cedarville University while Sam served as visiting professor during the 2017-2018 academic year. During this time, I grew to greatly admire Sam and appreciate his unique voice on the topics we will discuss today. In this episode, we will merely scratch the surface of his insights on singleness, sexuality, and friendship, but I highly recommend purchasing a copy of 7 Myths About Singleness if you would like to consider his biblical insights on these topics further. This episode is for the single woman, the dating woman, the engaged women, the married woman, or the widowed woman. If you truly believe that the church is a family, and I hope you do, then this issue is for you. I admit that as a married woman, I did not realize just how big these stakes are. I hope you will learn alongside me. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theaboutherpodcast/support

Missie also speaks frequently at various conferences and ministry events, and is a co-host of the Women & Work Podcast. I first met Missie while attending a women's event at the annual Southern Baptist Convention meeting in June of 2021. I was struck by Missie's eloquence of speech and by her understanding of, and love for, the Word of God. To no surprise, I was left with the same admiration after chatting with Missie about perfectionism and comparison in this podcast interview. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theaboutherpodcast/support

Mary currently serves in ministry as the President's Wife at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. She is the founder and director of The Seminary Wives Institute, an academic program that seeks to educate and equip Seminary wives at both Southern Seminary and Boyce College. Despite these impressive achievements, you will find that Mary's preferred title is, “Follower of Christ” and that her primary aim is to serve the Lord with thankfulness and joy. In today's conversation, Mary and I chatted about Biblical femininity. Together, we seek to determine what it means to embrace femininity in our modern day, debunked myths and misconceptions surrounding femininity, and consider the impact of the Feminist movement upon our understanding of biblical womanhood. Mary rightly reminds us that we must not seek to define our womanhood according to cultural standards, but instead according to the Word of God. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theaboutherpodcast/support

In this weeks episode of The About Her Podcast, I chatted with Mary Kassian. Mary has faithfully served the Lord in a variety of roles including wife, mom, author, public speaker, and distinguished professor. Mary is coming up on her 30 year anniversary as an author, and in those thirty years, has authored several books which have been formative in my own understanding of God's Word, biblical womanhood, identity, and more. A few of my favorite books authored by Mary include Girls Gone Wise, The Feminist Mistake, and True Woman 101 and 201. Mary's knowledge of theology and history always leaves me impressed, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to share that wisdom with you today as we discussed a topic familiar to us all, Feminism. As Mary will state later in the episode, Feminism is an ideology that is in the air we breathe in our current culture. I greatly appreciate Mary's balanced approach in this episode as she dissects feminism as an ideology, and compares its underlying beliefs to the Scriptures. I have considered Mary a mentor from a distance for many years, and it was an honor to chat with her up close in this very special podcast interview. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theaboutherpodcast/support
In this week's episode of The About Her Podcast, I chatted with Jordan Brown. Jordan is the lead pastor of Hebron Church of Hope in Hebron, Connecticut. A church that first gathered in October of 1716. Jordan is a graduate of Cedarville University located in Cedarville, Ohio. It was during his time at Cedarville that my husband and I met Jordan, and his now wife, Rachel. Jordan and his wife served in the youth ministry at our local church, and both Jordan and Rachel quickly stepped in to mentor young High School Caleb and Abigail. After graduating from Cedarville, Jordan returned to Connecticut to serve in pastoral ministry and has since graduated with his MTS in Church Revitalization from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jordan and Rachel were married in 2014 and together they have one daughter, Maeve Elisabeth. Jordan's favorite passage of Scripture is Hebrews 4:14-16. This passage states, "Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." As Jordan and I chat, you will quickly recognize just how much he desires to faithfully communicate the message of the Bible, to see dying churches come to life in the Gospel, and to see more and more people come to know Jesus Christ. I am grateful to have the opportunity to share Jordan's love for the Gospel, the Word of God, Theology and Church History with you today.
