Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a 2024 American supernatural comedy film directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. It is the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and the fifth film in the Ghostbusters franchise. The film stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, and Logan Kim reprising their roles from Afterlife, alongside Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton reprising their characters from the earlier films. Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Emily Alyn Lind, and James Acaster also join the cast. Set two years after the events of Afterlife, the veteran Ghostbusters must join forces with their new recruits to save the world in New York City from a death-chilling god who seeks to build a spectral army. Following the success of Afterlife, Sony Pictures announced the sequel in April 2022, with Reitman returning as director. Co-writer and executive producer Kenan later took over as director from Reitman that December, with the latter staying on as a co-writer and co-producer. That same month, Rudd, Coon, Grace, Wolfhard, O'Connor, Kim, Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson, Potts, and Atherton were all confirmed to reprise their roles. New cast members including Nanjiani, Oswalt, Lind, and Acaster were announced in March 2023, with principal photography commencing that month and wrapping in June. Dario Marianelli was hired to compose and conduct the film's score, replacing Afterlife composer Rob Simonsen. This is the first film in the Ghostbusters franchise to be released following the death of the franchise's co-creator and Jason Reitman's father Ivan Reitman, who posthumously receives credit as a producer alongside his son and Jason Blumenfeld. Additionally, the film is dedicated to Ivan's memory and celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first film. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire had its world premiere at the AMC 13 Theater at Lincoln Square in New York City on March 14, 2024, and was released in the United States on March 22, by Sony Pictures Releasing under its Columbia Pictures label. The film received mixed reviews from critics --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/popcorn-junkies/message

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got the ringleader of the year's weirdest experimental hip-hop album, who also happens to be a well known comedian, along with two guys who helped him make it: James Acaster along with NNAMDÏ and Quelle Chris. Now Acaster isn't a household name in the States just yet, but he's definitely a known quantity in the UK, where he's from. He's a stand-up comedian, a TV presenter, and an author—he wrote a great memoir a few years back called Perfect Sound Whatever, which uses music as a starting point for telling his own story. Which sort of bring us to his musical project, which he calls Temps. Before his comedy career took off, Acaster was an aspiring musician, and he jumped back into that pursuit during the pandemic, creating a collective of over 40 contributors to make an album called Party Gator Purgatory. It's a wild mix of experimental hip-hop with rock and jazz elements, and it's chaotic in all the right ways. For this conversation, we put Acaster together with two of the guests he brought on to help out with Party Gator. NNAMDÏ seemed like a natural choice for a multiple-personality record like this one, since he's one of the most restlessly engaging musicians working right now. The Chicagoan's latest album, Please Have a Seat, was his first for Secretly Canadian, and it's a blistering mix of hip-hop, electronic music, trap, and lots more—all tied together by his voice and outlook. Also in this chat is Detroit's Quelle Chris, who's been making records as a rapper, producer, and writer for the past decade plus. His latest album, Deathfame, also came out last year, and it's a smart, politically pointed collection of songs that showcases both his incredible flow and sense of humor—again, it makes perfect sense that Acaster would've called on him to bring something special to Party Gator. Let's check out one of the album's tracks that features all three of these guys; here's “no, no.” In this fun and insightful conversation, these three guys talk about collaborating long-distance, how whoever's mixing an album is incredibly important, whether or not one should order cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory, and how Macklemore ruined thrift stores. Allegedly. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to James Acaster, NNAMDÏ, and Quelle Chris for chatting. The record is credited to Temps, and it's called Party Gator Purgatory. If you liked what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite platform, and check out all the goodness at Talkhouse.com. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time!

Some people embrace change and some resist it? The Hack is back again with hosts Leon McQuade, Paul Longley, and Jo Kent. This time, The Hack is joined by guest Gale Acaster. In this episode, we open discussion on the books that have greatly influenced or changed our lives - to quote Gail who quotes Francis Bacon, knowledge is power, after all. We then move on to looking at the positive side of life following all of the negativity that more than a year of COVID-19 has brought us. We also begin by talking a little about how our pasts have shaped us, whether that be for better or for worse. However, it's important to remember that our pasts do not necessarily define us in the present or even in our future selves. How schools have changed in recent years and how we can learn from these changes is also a big part of this conversation. Video games, violence, natural aggressions and more all make an appearance. Spreading love and kindness in the modern world is something our hosts and guests also discuss, alongside daily mantras, meditation, and gratitude journals. So, yeah, quite a bit of contrast in the topics talked about. Much of this episode's discourse is led by the idea of the chimp paradox, based on the book of the same name by Professor Steve Peters. The chimp paradox is a mind management model that allows you to understand and take care of your own emotions, overriding the primitive response of fight, flight, or freeze. Stepping back from the complexities of the modern world is something that our team today has learnt with age, whether that be by going for a walk or listening to music. We finish off the episode talking about who in history we would like to talk to about modern society. Einstein and Princess Diana are two of the prominent names featured. His guest this week is the Rod Hull faced comedian James Acaster. You will find out what it's like to survive three car crashes and two train derailments, how much you could expect to earn selling slurpies in Kettering in the 1990s and what it is that draws the police to conspiracy theorists. Acaster also completely Mitchells the new emergency question. But has he ever seen a Bigfoot? You'll have to wait until the end of the podcast to find out. Paul is joined again by Gail Acaster, and her daughter Ruby, to discuss the differences in the generation gap - including differences in music taste, the gap between young and old, and how that gap can be bridged. KEY TAKEAWAYS Mum plays a lot of old rock and heavy metal music but it's nice to hear the music that she grew up with and how it's changed from back then to now, I listen to a range of music, and it depends on my mood or what I'm doing. But it's more DJs than bands. A lot of people have different ways of looking at things, which can be down to the way they were brought up. Older people can sometimes blame young people for things or call them stupid, but everybody is responsible for themselves and live in the moment. More communication needs to happen with people over 60 because they weren't brought up to interact with young people as much, the men went out to work and the women looked after the house. People in their 40s and 50s are spending more time with their children. I'm an adult and I have bills to pay, but seeing the world through the eyes of my children is a daily reminder of youth and life and all the possibilities in front of them. I'll still adopt that attitude in my old age. BEST MOMENTS ‘I can relate to young people because of my daughter.' ‘I don't think the older generation get to know the young generation as much as they should.' ‘Age actually is just a number.' ‘the world is a playground, it's what you make of it.' Paul is joined once more by Gail Acaster to talk about how we manage the four types of relationships in our lives: General relationships with family, friends and work colleagues, romantic relationships, our relationship with ourselves and our relationship with the Source – or higher power. KEY TAKEAWAYS Each relationship has different wants and needs, which is the most important for you? We're all experience emotions and feelings each and every day, they're a massive part of our lives. Big emotions and receiving love can be overwhelming, a good relationship with yourself can help you with that. We all need somebody to help us push the first metaphorical domino over, by putting an arm round us and letting us know they're with us, is a very powerful first step on the path to self-love. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you don't know who you are and love yourself then you won't plug into the higher source.' ‘Take ownership of yourself and accept the world around you.' ‘If you trust yourself and your judgement that will give you the ability to trust others as well.' ‘Embrace every good and bad thing in any relationship.' In the third part of their conversation, Gail Acaster returns to talk to Paul about the wonder of the world around us, and the concept of spirit - where it resides, and how it can be found inside us all. KEY TAKEAWAYS Spirit is the force that keeps us unique - that sets us apart - and that can be called upon as a resource when we need it. Communication is not just a one way street. We must pay attention and attempt to listen effectively, so that we do not misunderstand or misconstrue. We should always focus on the here and now instead of thinking too much about what might come next. We only get one ride out in life. We must think of life's journey with gratitude - we must reframe defeat as a lesson learned. We can produce positivity from darkness. BEST MOMENTS 'Spirit is all around us' 'Listen and be present!' British comedian James Acaster explains how experiencing the worst year of his life led him to create his new comedy special, Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999. Toronto-born actress Jayne Eastwood discusses her 50-year career and the joys of playing a shockingly shameless senior citizen in the CBC web series Hey Lady! — a lead role written just for her. Canadian cartoonist Aminder Dhaliwal talks about how she uses the mythic cyclops as a surprising metaphor for racism in her latest graphic novel, Cyclopedia Exotica.
In the second part of their conversation, Gail Acaster returns to talk to Paul about the magic that is all around us, and the wonder to be discovered in our everyday surroundings. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes the most magical moments in life are the ones that arrive unexpectedly. There is a beauty in flirting with the unknown. As human's we need basics things such as water, food and human connectivity. The human connection element is why lockdown has been so hard for many. Life is made more magical by injecting love and compassion into small moments. Consider the small things we can do for ourselves and for others. We can spread a little light into lives by focussing upon the positive news, and not the negative points of view. BEST MOMENTS 'Life's too short to be worried about whether we're good singers or not' ''We're flirting with the unknown' 'People who aren't so happy are the ones who have trouble connecting with others' 'We need to make the world a better place' VALUABLE RESOURCES Paul’s Story: Emerging From The Forest (UK): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Emerging-Forest-Pain-Purpose-Mastering/dp/1719373272 Paul’s Story: Emerging From The Forest (USA): https://www.amazon.com/Emerging-Forest-Pain-Purpose-Mastering/dp/1719373272 Mastering The Game Of Life Book (UK): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mastering-Game-Life-Paul-Lowe/dp/1782227679 Mastering The Game Of Life Book (USA): https://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Game-Life-Paul-Lowe/dp/1782227679 Speaking From Our Hearts Books: Volumes 1-3 (Available on Amazon) World Game-Changers Group ABOUT THE GUEST Gail has experienced a Recruitment, Sales, Marketing and Business Development career spanning over 20 years, gaining knowledge and expertise in the recruitment industry, finding the best people to fit in the jobs needed to grow businesses in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and beyond. Paul is joined by Gail Acaster, to talk about the magic that is all around us, and the many ways in which the true beauty and splendour of the world positively impacts our every day. KEY TAKEAWAYS Society seeks to constrain us by labels, but human beings are far more complicated than a simple tag. Magic is not just a matter of conjuring or illusion. It is found in the wonder of every day life. The world is a magical place. It is very important to reflect and take stock of what is around us. We need to embrace the desire to re-align with the beauty of life. We can overcome any obstacle in life through resilience and hard work. It’s a matter of keeping faith with ourselves, and remembering to open our eyes to enjoy the magic when possible. BEST MOMENTS ‘Music always gets the juices flowing’ ‘As humans, we become so immersed in our own self-importance’ ‘We have to make a conscious effort’ ‘It’s a case of opening your eyes’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Paul’s Story: Emerging From The Forest (UK): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Emerging-Forest-Pain-Purpose-Mastering/dp/1719373272 Paul’s Story: Emerging From The Forest (USA): https://www.amazon.com/Emerging-Forest-Pain-Purpose-Mastering/dp/1719373272 Mastering The Game Of Life Book (UK): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mastering-Game-Life-Paul-Lowe/dp/1782227679 Mastering The Game Of Life Book (USA): https://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Game-Life-Paul-Lowe/dp/1782227679 Speaking From Our Hearts Books: Volumes 1-3 (Available on Amazon) World Game-Changers Group ABOUT THE GUEST Gail has experienced a Recruitment, Sales, Marketing and Business Development career spanning over 20 years, gaining knowledge and expertise in the recruitment industry, finding the best people to fit in the jobs needed to grow businesses in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and beyond. This time, Paul is joined by fellow Nottingham-ite, Gail Acaster, to talk about the ways in which we can all do our part in changing the world for the better. KEY TAKEAWAYS Forests secrete essential oils, and so when we take ourselves for restorative walks around them, they really do have a positive impact on our mental wellbeing. Sometimes we are given a rare insight into how we are connected. It is not something we feel consciously, but more on a primal level. It's a magical experience. Emotion is seen as a sign of weakness, especially in men. But the releasing of our emotions shows that we are strong enough in ourselves to want to share our vulnerability. Those who choose to give rather than receive, are usually the happier breed of people. Selflessness always trumps selfishness. BEST MOMENTS 'We both felt this very surreal spirit - this energy' 'I've made most of my big life decisions out in nature' 'Everybody needs to be vulnerable sometimes' 'We're all in this together' VALUABLE RESOURCES Paul’s Story: Emerging From The Forest (UK): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Emerging-Forest-Pain-Purpose-Mastering/dp/1719373272 Paul’s Story: Emerging From The Forest (USA): https://www.amazon.com/Emerging-Forest-Pain-Purpose-Mastering/dp/1719373272 Mastering The Game Of Life Book (UK): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mastering-Game-Life-Paul-Lowe/dp/1782227679 Mastering The Game Of Life Book (USA): https://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Game-Life-Paul-Lowe/dp/1782227679 Speaking From Our Hearts Books: Volumes 1-3 (Available on Amazon) World Game-Changers Group ABOUT THE GUEST Gail has experienced a Recruitment, Sales, Marketing and Business Development career spanning over 20 years, gaining knowledge and expertise in the recruitment industry, finding the best people to fit in the jobs needed to grow businesses in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and beyond. The Lost Treasures Of The Black Heart is a sort of comedy club in Camden town each month, where comedians, writers and musicians write special sets venerating an unsung hero or celebrating an obscure thing. It's very rough and silly. It's compered by Josie Long, who tries out new ideas and improvises things. We hope you like it, we wanted to make it as close to the bizarre, ramshackle nature of the night as possible. Welcome to Christmas 2011. You can hear James, the sound man, podcaster and web boss of the club at the start of this recording! I wasn't in great spirits the night of the gig but I hope it's ok.. It's a pretty slow starting one and there's a hat frenzy game near the beginning in which I encourage people to steal each other's hats (they're the hats from the christmas crackers that we had...) The guests this month were James 'Pancakes' Acaster (http://www.jamesacaster.com / @jamesacaster) , Cairn McDonald, Nikesh Shukla (http://www.nikesh-shukla.com / @nikeshshukla), Martin Croser (@M_Croser), Leo Healy, Nadia Kamil (http://www.nadiakamil.co.uk), Phil O'Shea (@PhilOSheacomedy) and club regular Nathaniel Metcalfe (@natmetcalfe) who treats us to a festive reading.
