Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa's cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I've photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I've tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that's the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world. Founded by Roy Weatherby in 1945, to say the company that bears his name is an iconic brand in the firearms industry would be a gross understatement. The Mark V Deluxe with super high gloss blued barrel, mated to the “strongest in the industry” 9-lug action, bedded into diamond patterned inlaid fine walnut Monte Carlo styled stock and pistol grip , has been for decades the epidemy of the gunmaker's art. Times have changed and so has Weatherby. Third generation leader of this fine brand, Adam Weatherby joins Sheep Fever co-host Gray Thornton to share the company's beginnings in South Gate, California to its current state-of-the-art factory and headquarters in Sheridan, Wyoming. Adam shares his vision for the transformation of the brand and products which still include the Mark V Deluxe, to ultra-lightweight sheep rifles borne from titanium and carbon fiber, new Weatherby magnum and non-magnum calibers, the new Model 307 700 action-based platform named for Wyoming statewide area code, and an expanded line of sporting and field shotguns. Adam uses what he makes and sells testing new products and calibers from the first game animal with the then new 6.5 x 300 Weatherby, his Dall's sheep in NWT, to his Oregon bighorn also with the 6.5x300, to his third wild sheep, a Fannin taken with the Weatherby WSF Thinhorn Edition in 6.5 RPM. Adam is donating the Thinhorn Edition he used in the Yukon and Brenda Weatherby's WSF Bighorn edition used in a Montana's Unlimited unit for auction at the upcoming Sheep Show® to complement their Presenting Sponsorship of WSF and our convention.

When Adam Weatherby's grandfather Roy started Weatherby Sporting Goods in 1945, his focus was on developing the fastest hunting rifle cartridge in the world. What began as an obsession in a small shop in southern California has evolved into a multi-million dollar company headquartered in Sheridan, Wyoming with nearly 100 employees. It is a quintessential American company, and the name Weatherby is now synonymous with premier hunting firearms and the sporting way of life.Adam Weatherby is carrying the torch as the third Weatherby generation to lead the company, and he has been at the helm through Weatherby's migration to Wyoming and its unprecedented growth. Adam, his family, and his Weatherby team have worked hard to balance the company's growth while keeping its compass firmly pointed toward the innovation, hunting traditions, and family-oriented management that has guided Weatherby since its inception.Adam and several members of his team dropped by the MTNTOUGH Lab for a workout, and Adam took some time to sit down with Dustin to talk about the Weatherby journey. The conversation covered Weatherby's origins, the move to Wyoming and finding a new place and community there, the company's exponential growth, how hunting informs Weatherby's research and development, Weatherby's future, family, faith, mental toughness, and of course, guns.
If you hunt or grew up around the outdoors, you've heard of Weatherby Rifles. It is a company that was started in the most unusual spots and times, Southern California in 1945. Founder Roy Weatherby built his business just miles from Hollywood and rubbed shoulders with celebrities like John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and Gary Cooper. Adam Weatherby, the now CEO of the company, and grandson of Roy, has since moved the company to Wyoming and has continued his families quest of innovating the world of hunting rifles. We cover the history of the company, the why behind moving it to Wyoming, current and future 2nd amendment issues, innovation, being a leader, and much more. Enjoy.

This around-the-campfire episode details three proper backcountry hunts for big Kudu bulls, and two nail-biting hunts in Namibia's historic Caprivi region along the Okavango River for massive, ancient Cape buffalo bulls. Adam Weatherby, Rob Gearing, Austin Brown, host Joseph von Benedikt, and PH Jacques Strauss dig deep into what worked, what didn't, and how to re-group and sort out a problem when it occurs. And of course we tell the stories of each of the tremendous animals taken, from the butt-puckering stalks on buffalo to the challenge of glassing and getting on a mountain-country Kudu bull. African conservation success stories and meat-providing processes are part and parcel of the discussion, and in truth provide some of the most passionate elements. Eating the "Poop Chute" and Buffalo balls as a pre-dinner delicacy come into play, too. And of course, there's plenty of rifle, optic, cartridge, and bullet performance discussion, too. ENJOY! As part of the Weatherby move from California, they have dealt with the stress and busy schedule by getting out after some amazing critters in big, wild country! We talk about the Wyoming One-Shot event and it's traditional links between generations, and a little bit about aviation mechanics... or lack thereof. This episode is a recap and conversation with Adam Weatherby and Kevin Wilkerson, following our week-long moose hunt here in interior Alaska. We had plenty of challenges to deal with, but it was a great time exploring and hunting new country. Adam and Kevin are both great dudes, it was a pleasure being miserable together, and I look forward to sharing many more campfires with them. Enjoy. “I’m here today because of the way my grandfather established this brand. I’m still riding the wave today.” — Adam Weatherby Seven decades ago, Weatherby magnums were flipping the industry on its head for their velocity and flat trajectory performance. And they’re still leading the way. Weatherby needs no intro. It’s the gun you’ve lusted for. It’s an elite brand you respect, even if you’ve never fired one or even seen one yourself. That kind of brand equity takes sweat equity. And Roy Weatherby had that and more. Today we're talking to Adam Weatherby, the President of Weatherby and grandson of Roy. In this episode we'll talk about the legacy and brand that Roy built, how Roy impacted his son, Ed, and Adam's journey to lead. Adam’s done a lot of podcasts, but I promise you, if you’ve heard him before, stick around. He even said at the end of the show, he’s never done a show like this. Sitting down with Adam Weatherby of Weatherby Firearms at the Western Hunting Expo we learned about 73 years of family craftsmanship. Weatherby is currently moving their family business from California to Wyoming. Adam explains why they're moving after 73 years but most importantly why the move is emotionally tough. In 2016 Weatherby released the 6.5-300 Weatherby Mag caliber and we wanted to get the low down on that "hot rod" as Adam refers. We shared some great hunting stories and we all shared our insight and support for conservation. Adam Weatherby Instagram
