During the COVID-19 pandemic, while many of us were working remotely through 2020 and perhaps felt like we were putting our lives on pause, ambitious entrepreneurs were plowing ahead with their hopes, dreams and business plans. In the case of Stephanie's two guests on this edition of Out to Lunch Baton Rouge, this perseverance has turned out extremely well. Cool Heads Jack Karavich is owner of Tigeraire, a sports technology start-up founded at LSU's Innovation Park that has developed an in-helmet airflow system for use in sports helmets, construction hardhats, and military helmets. This high tech head wear utilizes a small device that leverages the air vents in a helmet using a small battery, a couple of tubes and a tiny fan. It enables air circulation that keeps athletes and other wearers cooler, drier, safer, and better able to perform. Jack developed the helmet-cooling technology in partnership with LSU which has since licensed the product for its football team. Several other universities, including Albama, Auburn, Clemson, and Texas A&M have since followed suit. Tigeraire is now designing batting helmets that incorporate the technology and has plans to tackle lacrosse helmets and ice hockey helmets after that. Tigeraire has opened new offices in Richmond Virginia, which will serve as its corporate headquarters. Prior to founding the company, Jack served as chief digital architect of Honeywell, GlaxoSmithKline, Walmart Labs, and Capital One.  Hot Bodies While Jack's technology is designed to keep its wearers cool, April Hill is focused on making them hot. April is owner of Yoga Studio 90, a health and wellness studio offering high intensity interval training, yoga and Pilates in one complete, full body workout that is intended to be done in a steamy 90-degree-room. April has owned the studio for more than a decade, but one month into the pandemic in 2020, when everyone was under lockdown and no one could go to the gym, April rebranded her studios and launched an online platform of virtual workouts available on a subscription basis that has enabled her to reach a much broader clientele from anywhere in the country.  This show was recorded over lunch at Mansurs on the Boulevard. Kan du egentlig få livsændrende oplevelser flere gange i livet? Vi er nået til Savannah, Georgia, og vi har været 40 dage i vores van, som vi har lejet hos Cruisearmerica.  Vi er lige nu der, hvor vi ikke har plads nok i bilen. Vi er blevet lidt rejsefatique. Men det gode er, at vi er så vant til at rejse, så vi ved, det er en del af pakken. Turen i van er nemlig både ups and downs. Det er ikke  nemt, når temperaturen falder og der skal arbejdes og gå i skole. Men hårdt er ikke noget, der gør os bange. Hårdt er ok. Engang blev jeg skide bange for mine følelser, hvis jeg ikke synes, det var top-fedt, men nu er jeg blevet så erfaren en rejser, at jeg ved, det er en del af pakken. Vi taler om, hvorvidt det er muligt at få de her nye livsændrende oplevelser, eller om vi bare bygger ovenpå vores erfaringer. Oplevelser som kan rykke os og forandre os. Syden er for vild, og du bliver nødt til at prøve det. Det første der skete da vi kørte over grænsen til Alabama, var at vi blev mødt at et skilt, hvor der stod Welcome to sweet home Albama. 200 meter længere fremme, hang der en skilt på et hus, hvor der stod fuck Biden. Velkommen til Sydstaterne. Men selvom du ikke er politisk enig, så må jeg sige, at du møder ikke et mere imødekommende samfund. Du kan ikke stå i et supermarket, gå på gaden eller gøre noget uden at nogen kommer og vil tale med dig eller hjælpe dig.  Vi blev en del af det lokale community i Jackson city i Alabama. Vi boede hos kate, som vi havde lejede et hus af på Airbnb. Det var magisk, og den måde de er på i syden er en overdreven mega imødekommenhed. Der er en årsag, som egentlig kom bag på mig. Kristian fortæller mig noget i podcasten, som jeg slet ikke har hørt og det er ret vildt, for vi er sammen 24/7 også får jeg et kæmpe chok, midt i vores snak.   Vi har også forsøgt at få vaccinen, hør med i dag om det er lykkedes.   Kærligst Mille

In 1969, a former coffin show room located at 3614 Jackson Highway in Sheffield, Albama was converted into the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. Huge names in music like the Rolling Stones, Cher, Bob Seger, Lynrd Skynrd and many more recorded songs and albums within its' walls. Only a decade later, in 1979, the studio would close. Following a documentary titled Muscle Schoals in 2013, interest was peaked in restoring the forgotten building.  Today, on Small Business War Stories, we talk to Andrew Kelly of the Muscle Shoals Music Foundation about how they helped restore this building to help establish an iconic music museum.

We took the show on the road this week.  All the way out to Avondale Estates to the home of Wild Heaven Craft Beers.  The folks there were busy, you see. They were brewing a collaboration with a little place from Florida called Cigar City.  So we were able to interview two amazing brewers at once - Wild Heaven's Eric Johnson and Cigar City's Wayne Wambles.  We talk about Eric's non traditional entry into brewing, Wild Heaven's move to canning, and many more things...including what he and Wayne are cooking up! We'll also learn about the success of Emergency Drinking Beer and crack open a special sour that's in the works. Truck and Tap's Beers of the week included Wild Heaven's Autumn Defense, and a surprise from across the pond. Wayne and the Cigar City crew have spent the last several months traveling around the world, collaborating with brewers. One of their collabs happened to be with Ireland's Galway Bay Brewery, home of friend of the show Wil Avery. We sampled the result - Phaethon IPA - and gave Wayne his first taste as well!  In the headlines (sponsored by Your Pie - Perimeter), we talk about Atlanta's newest planned brewpub, headed by former Stone Brewing brewmaster Mitch Steele.
