After 20 years of being eligible for the World Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, INXS finally, on February 25th, 2026, have been formally nominated for inclusion, leading to an outpouring of global joy and pride amongst music fans and critics. Andrew Farriss exclusively shared with Billboard how proud he, his bandmates and the late Michael Hutchence would have been to be recognised amongst their peers. "To matter musically" was more important than fads, trends and commercial success, and this nomination is an important validation of this notion. INXS were one of ten new nominees out of a field of 17 artists recognised, and were understandably faced stiff opposition from fellow nominees such as Joy Division/New Order, Billy Idol and Phil Collins insofar as the Hall's recognition of artists that peaked in the 80's. In April 2026, the final induction list shall be announced, but you can have a voice and influence this outcome by voting via the Rock Hall's fan voting portal https://vote.rockhall.com/ So do yourself a favour, share the link with everybody you do and don't know and in the words of Michael Hutchence' lyric to Kick: “Cmon, Cmon, Cmon, Cmon” and ensure justice is done in April whereby the band INXS are rightly ordained into the Rock Hall of Fame along with their many influences The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Roxy Music etc… and we can all congregate in Cleveland and celebrate this iconic and wonderful recognition Love and peace  Haydn & Bee https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/

With a catalogue as extensive as INXS', there was bound to be moments in time when certain songs captured the zeitgeist attention of the music buying public and critics. Look no further than January 28th, 1988 when a humble hard working sextet from Australia hit number one on the Billboard Charts with Need You Tonight. A song, that now, sounds so familiar, crisp and radio friendly but then, a new modern twist on funk, soul and pop with sound production so cutting edge, every breath, ooh and aah sounded like Michael Hutchence was singing it to you directly from your living room. Combined with an innovative, breathtaking and cutting edge video clip, Need you Tonight put INXS into the stratosphere of superstardom and success. MTV awards ensued, world tours were booked and the album Kick had the necessary momentum to spawn 4 subsequent hit singles and international acclaim. Five years later in February 1993, a less prominent and commercially successful track was released as the fifth single to Welcome to Wherever You are, namely Beautiful Girl. A self-penned track by Andrew Farriss as an ode to new fatherhood, this restrained, mellow and resonant song showcased a maturity, subtlety and consciousness to both the INXS writing and recording process. Charting steadily if not spectacularly, the film clip by Mark Pellington of U2 and Pearl Jam fame would garner a Grammy nomination for Best Video of the Year losing out to Peter Gabriel's “Steam” clip. That aside, the social conscious messaging of the clip resonated nicely with the lyrical content whilst Michael's channeling of Lou Reed, circa The Velvet Underground era only added to its worthiness. So sit back and reminisce as we step back in time and honour two distinct but two important songs in the INXS catalogue that still resonate 37 and 32 years later respectively.

After 4.5 years, INXS: Access all Areas reaches a special milestone of 200 episodes and what better way to celebrate than commemorate the Mini Series: Never Tear Us Apart starting with a deep dive into Part One. The episode that we coined “The Ascent” where we see the band climb from humble beginnings to the career zenith of Wembley 1991. With impeccable casting and production values from Endemol Shine Australia, this iconic mini series launched on Australian TV on Sunday February 9th, 2014 and concluded the following week on February 16th to record ratings for the Channel 7 network. Filmed in Melbourne Australia with a cast of known but not overtly famous actors, Director Daina Reid elicits heartfelt and acute performances particularly from industry veteran Damon Herriman whose portrayal of INXS Manager Chris Murphy may be the shrewdest casting in many years. With a swathe of songs representing INXS' early career success in Australia, fans and the less initiated are taken into a heady and nostalgic period when music and gigs were the soundtrack and vehicle for youth culture and entertainment. Additionally, we get to see the work ethic, commitment and sacrifice of an emerging band who had the courage to leave the safety and earnings potential of Australian shores and “risk it all” by tackling the behemoth that was America. Inspiring, endearing, passionate and purposeful, go back and watch with fresh eyes and ears before listening to this podcast!! Interview by Kris PetersWhile the term family is often bandied about in the world of music, it is generally used as more of an affectionate term when used to describe the bond that develops between band members. Not often is it used in the literal term. But when it is, you can be sure that you are in for something special.Think Angus and Malcolm Young from AC/DC, Andrew Farriss, Jon Farriss, and Tim Farriss (INXS), Eddie and Alex Van Halen to name but a few, but while the natural chemistry of siblings is a powerful force when harnessed by verse, it is an all too rare occurrence.Looking through that list, there are a few bands with three family members spread here and there, but I have yet to come across a band from the rock persuasion that is made up of four members of the same family. Until now.Australia's own Sisters Doll, (Brennan, Austin and Bryce Mileto) have expanded their numbers by one to include younger brother Sage as part of their line-up moving forward, with the newest devotee to rock and roll showcasing his wares on the new track Don't Give Up On Us, with the music video announcing his addition to the band's legions of fans.Brennan and Austin both sat down with HEAVY to talk about the new song and… well, family."It's done really well so far," Brennan enthused of the new track. "We did a bit of a livestream before the video dropped to build the suspense and build the hype, because we really believe in this song. It's kind of been one of our favourites from the album. It is more of the ballad from the album, but so far we've got a great response. A lot of good responses on the video too, which is exciting. Obviously, it unveils our new bass player, which is kind of the talking point at the moment. Having Sage in there has sparked a few more people to jump on and have a look - especially people back home. Compared to the last one Change, which we did last year, it's probably doing a little bit better."In the full interview, the boys discussed a range of personal and professional topics. They talked about the positive response to their new album's ballad and the unveiling of their new bass player, Sage. They also discussed the strategic decision to release the audio before the video to boost streaming numbers and create anticipation for the music video.Additionally, they highlighted the need to strategically unveil Sage to maintain the surprise for the show. They also delved into the meaning behind their new song Don't Give Up on Us, highlighting its dual significance related to relationships and the band's perseverance.Furthermore, they provided insights into their plans for the album launch show at Max Watts on January 25 next year, indicating that it will feature a mix of new and existing songs, with a focus on gauging audience reception for future performances. They also discussed the evolution of their performances, emphasizing their dedication to delivering high energy shows and their commitment to creating a memorable experience for the audience. The conversation also covered the band's upcoming plans, including the release of their new single, pre-orders for the new album, and their upcoming shows and tours, showcasing the band's excitement for the future.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

INXS (a phonetic play on "in excess") were an Australian rock band, formed as the Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. The founding members were bassist Garry Gary Beers, main composer and keyboardist Andrew Farriss, drummer Jon Farriss, guitarist Tim Farriss, lead singer and main lyricist Michael Hutchence, and guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly. For 20 years, INXS was fronted by Hutchence, whose magnetic stage presence made him the focal point of the band. Initially known for their new wave/pop style, the band later developed a harder pub rock style that included funk and dance elements. In 1984, INXS had their first number-one hit in Australia with "Original Sin". The band achieved international success in the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s with the hit albums Listen Like Thieves, Kick, and X, and the singles "What You Need", "Need You Tonight" (the band's only US number-one single), "Devil Inside", "Never Tear Us Apart", "Suicide Blonde" and "New Sensation". After Hutchence's death on 22 November 1997, INXS made appearances with several guest singers, and toured and recorded with Jon Stevens as lead singer, beginning in 2000. In 2005, members of INXS participated in Rock Star: INXS, a reality television series that culminated in the selection of Canadian J.D. Fortune as their new lead singer. Irish singer-songwriter Ciaran Gribbin replaced Fortune as lead singer in 2011. The guests keep coming, with Bee and me proud to welcome legendary recording engineer Mike Plotnikoff to the INXS Access all Areas Podcast. Having paired up in his formative years with famed producer Bruce Fairbairn, he was half of the Canadian duo responsible for some of the biggest-selling records of the 1990s by acts including AC/DC, Aerosmith, and the Cranberries.   Come 1997, both Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence reached out to Bruce and Mike, having put together a wealth of strong material and demos via an extended songwriting session in London where Michael had the best and most honest lyrics of his career.   In the first of our two-part series, Mike opens up on the recording process of Elegantly Wasted with huge respect for the professionalism, talent levels, and preparation of Andrew and Michael. Feeling Michael's rock-star aura and swagger, Mike shares great insights into how great INXS were to work with whilst providing never before seen photos of Michael and the band, both in the studio as well as Spain where recording duties extended.   This and a whole lot more! So, sit back and remember an important time and place where Michael's last musical contribution started and lives on today.   Love and Peace ✌️ Haydn   https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com Check out our fan engagement page to buy a Hot Ticket!
