Tal Yahalom is an award-winning jazz guitarist and composer and you'll be getting a preview of his compelling quintet album Mirror Image  with  refreshingly unique instrumentation: violin, cello, percussion, sax and flute and both nylon-string and electric guitar. You'll be hearing excerpts from the album and hear about Tal's creative process and collaborators including percussioninst Rogerio Boccato and David Leon on sax and flute. Tal told me about some great advice he got from Pat Metheny, whom he met  when Tal won the Detroit Jazz Festival National Guitar Competition, and the invaluable guidance of key mentors throughout his education and career. Tal recently came back from musically immersive travels in Brazil and Argentina, and it was inspiring to hear about his experiences their as well as hear about several of his collaborators,  including his band KADAWA, and we're featuring a track from their new album as well. Towards the end of this interview, Tal shared some personal reflections on his new duo with vocalist Danielle Wertz, and some very wise insights into student-centered learning, which I think apply quite broadly, not just to music.  Like all my episodes, you can watch this on my YouTube channel or listen to the podcast on all the podcast platforms, and I've also linked the transcript to my website https://www.leahroseman.com/episodes/tal-yahalom Tal Yahalom Website Mirror Image Album (pre-order link; releasing March 21, 2025)KADAWA band Buy me a coffee? Jonathan Noble and Filip Cleeren kick off the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend as they handle media day at Interlagos. A lot of the discussion is centered around Max Verstappen and the criticisms of his racecraft after his 20 seconds of time penalties in Mexico, and whether Verstappen will show any signs of change as a result. Included are some behind-the-scenes thoughts on Lando Norris' and his reflections on Mexico, and the surprising lack of conversation between the two drivers since. There's also talk on the newly resurfaced track at Interlagos and the tyre management difficulties the teams are set to face over the weekend, Liam Lawson and Sergio Perez continuing their back and forth with the press after their own Mexico clash, and some talk from Franco Colapinto as Red Bull's interest in the Argentian driver goes public. Our first premiere of the week comes from one of the most exciting techno prospects from the Southern hemisphere as Argentiain producer Gina Demarchi features on Rave Your Soul. We premiere ‘Don't Run To The Fire', a slamming tribal groove that exudes funky 90's flavour while maintaining a rough-edged feel. Osijek via Rotterdam label Rave Your Soul has been putting its focus on a new and electrifying generation of techno producers. Inspired by the 90s and early 00s style of groove-infused techno, the label aims to shine a light on those who continue to keep the 90s fire burning with new techniques and a fresh approach to vintage techno swing. The label has welcomed a number of up & coming Irish producers including Dylan Fogarty, CULT, Chris Flannigan, and more. The label's highly anticipated fourth release finally is here and this time they welcome a new and thrilling name in the techno scene – Gina Demarchi. The Argentian presents a 5 track EP of radical loop-orientated techno funk, with 4 originals and a remix from Dublin-based CULT. The EP takes inspiration from dancefloor memories, evoking an infectious and high-powered groove, as Gina lusts for an everlasting groove. This is an EP made for DJs, as the young producer keeps things locked, rolling, and effortlessly funky. We premiere ‘ Don't Run To The Fire' a disco-licked slice of rolling 90's inspired heaven. Gina keeps her foot firmly on the pedal as speeds through at the blistering pace of 145bpm. The track has got all the perfect ingredients for a fun-loving groove-soaked tool, as Gina provides pulsating basslines, jarring percussive elements, disco-tinged samples, and vocals that tie the whole project together. This festive techno arriving in the midst of festival season – delightful.

Then she remembered that she had been told of an earlier reincarnation where she was named Layli Gundrich... (Teh Holy Spirit:: "Oh My God....Layli? Is that YOU? Where have you been all this time?") It was all news to her, but she just pasted her present name of Linda onto Layli, and then couldn't decide which way she liked it best, so kept both.. So, that's what she's called by the Upstairs Gang. Though she wasn't at the time, Linda Brown is now pretty pleased that some dumb psychiatrist once slapped her with the Schizophrenic label. Ha! Ep 144 - Bringing authentic Argentian food to the Melbourne faithful with Dan Szwarc from Dan's Empanada Bar Born and raised in Argentina, Dan Szwarc's driving passion is food and, most of all, honesty when it comes to food. His food style is multi-faceted combining influences from his French training, Australian lifestyle and South American heritage. Dan is bringing the flavours of his homeland to Australia with Dan's Empanada Bar, a concept that combined comfort food with snack elements. A tradition in Argentina and a legacy that he wants to share. The talented Chef began his career as a student at the prestigious cookery school The Bue Trainers in Buenos Aires. He graduated with distinction at the top of his class before gaining experience at the Hyatt, Claridges and Gate Gourmet. Dan moved to London to work under Peter Kromberg at the Intercontinental Hotel. A stint in cruise ships followed before he finally landed in Melbourne at Sofitel Hotel's Le Restaurant with Marcus Moore. Dan's career took off in Australia at Crown casino, helming the kitchen of Number 8, before opening Les Boucheries Parisiennes with Phillipe Aubron. Next up was running Joseph Vargetto's Oyster Little Bourke, Albert Park Hotel and Livebait, before becoming Head Chef at Gary Mehigan's Fenix restaurant and Made establishment's Hellenic Republic in Brunswick and Hellenic Hotel in Williamstown. Dan has represented Australia at the finals of LCDR in Singapore and in 2020 he will judge the renowned Chef of the Year Competition, which sees professional chefs compete against other chefs and the clock in a test of creativity, kitchen skills and ingenuity. In this podcast we discuss how Dan ended up coming to Melbourne, what true Argentian food is to him, and his plans as he scales his amazing Empanada bar concept. The Upper Realm Answers Questions About Earth - Linda J. Brown grew up in Winter Haven, Florida and graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Journalism and Communications. She was active in campus leadership as an officer in Mortarboard, (national university women's leadership honorary); Women's Student Association, and the Blue Key Speaker's Bureau. She married a physician and raised two children, later becoming involved in the Citizen Diplomacy movement at the opening of the Soviet Union in 1990, leading a number of grassroots tours to encourage people-to-people friendship and to increase the prospects of world peace. She spent a total of eighteen months within Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Siberia. Brown was raised in the Episcopal Church, then spent thirty-three years as a member of The Baha'i Faith, resigning in 1997 to pursue her own inner spiritual life. Her first book is HEY BOOMERS, DUST OFF YOUR BACKPACKS: Travel The World On A Limited Budget (Amazon.com). It tells of her adventures on the around-the-world backpacking trail as she circled the globe for a year, alone, using only her social security income. She turned sixty-eight-years-old in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Brown targets the leading edge U.S. Baby Boomers, who become eligible for full-time Social Security in 2011, but really, it's a good read for anybody - traveler or not...old or not. Her extensive travels continue whenever she can find time to hoist a backpack; most recently in January, 2009, when at age seventy-two, she took four months to explore the unique spinal column formed by the Andean Mountain Chain - from Bogota, Colombia to Ushuaia, Argentian in Tierra del Fuego - from top to tip of South America. She likes to say that she performed chiropractic on the backbone of the world." To continue with stuff that's not in the book bio: Linda Brown took on the spiritual name of Linda Layli, Layli Linda when she began to communicate one-on-one with The Holy Spirit. This was before the days of making up names for internet presence and she was a tiny bit stumped when asked to create her own moniker. On this edition of Parallax Views, A.M. Gittlitz of the Antifada podcast joins us to discuss his new book I Want to Believe: Posadism, UFOs, and Apocalypse Communism (Pluto Press, 2020). For the uninitiated Posadamism is most popularly known as a strange online meme of a nihilistic and ironic bent that references communism, nuclear war, dolphins, and UFOs. If that sounds weird, well, the true story of J. Poasadas, the 20th century Argentinian communist from which the meme gets its name, is perhaps even more bizarre. It's a story of spies, lies, and, yes, communists UFO hunters that features appearances from historical figures from the controversial Argentian authoritarian leader Juan Perón to Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara. Even Leon Trotsky manages to show up in A.M.'s historical overview of J. Posadas' life and times! But why has this unusual, marginal figure within communist thought become a popular meme with alienated youths with far left-wing tendencies? A.M. tries to answer that in I Want to Believe as well and the answer may surprise. We discuss all this as well as SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), Carl Sagan, futurism, and much, much more on this wild edition of Parallax Views! SUPPORT PARALLAX VIEWSON PATREON!
