Fertile Ground: A mind-body approach to getting pregnant - without it taking over your life.

Was there ever a point in your fertility journey when someone said: “Stop being so sensitive!” “You're too emotional.” “Let it go. It's no big deal.” Or when someone dares to tell you to, “Just relax! Calm down.” As much as we might wanna sucker punch whoever has the balls to say it to our face, what do we usually do? We suck it up. We keep it in. We oppress the sting. We internalize the message. “Maybe I am too sensitive? Shit… something must be wrong with me. My feelings aren't normal. I shouldn't be feeling this way.” The way I see it, there are 2 ways of responding: 1. With shame and hiding. This sits heavy on the mind and body. 2. With self-trust and inner-validation. This restores energy in the mind and body. PLEASE HEAR ME WHEN I SAY: For 100's of years, our ancestors were literally burned at the stake for standing up for what they believed it. It is only recently that women are ALLOWED to express our truths. Allowed to push back. Allowed to say no. Allowed to have our needs met and received. The process of unshaming, is healing your ancestral trauma AT THE CORE. It makes sense that this is part of the fertility journey. It makes sense that the shame gets cleared before the next generation comes through. I was inspired to record a podcast on this and I recorded it off the cuff. It's really raw. I hope you feel something freeing when you listen to it. There is something so liberating to know that you're not only on this journey for you, but for all the women that came for you. Your ancestors are so proud of you. Today I am thrilled to welcome Beth Probst to the show. Beth is the founder and CEO of At The Core. She has inspired parents of college-bound students to think strategically about how to select the best-fit college, major, and career so they don't end up wasting precious time, energy, and money. In today's episode, we're focused on middle schoolers and why it's not too early to be talking to them about careers. No, we're not talking about helping them choose a career in middle school and stick with it. What we are talking about is starting to plant the seeds and open up the window to exploration and awareness. Students in middle school and even younger are exposed to careers every day, whether it's through television, on the internet, or in real life. They see people working in education, medicine, retail, and other fields. And that's helpful but what's even more helpful is helping them learn more about themselves - what they enjoy, what they are good at, what they don't enjoy, and what they can't see themselves doing. During our conversation, Beth shares lots of helpful tips for parents to help get teenagers talking about careers. She also believes, as do I, that self-assessment is a huge part of the process. What about passion? Do teens need to have a passion in order to find a successful career? Stay tuned to hear Beth's perspective on that. Simultaneously saving for retirement and your child's college education requires delicate and intentional planning. You want to ensure you and your student will get a quality return on the sizable investment you're making. On this episode, I sit down with educational planning expert Beth Probst of At The Core to discuss the rising costs of college tuition, setting up high school seniors for success, and the tool she created to help college-bound students get the most out of higher education. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Setting high school seniors up for success and the misnomer of “good schools” [1:48] Ryan's college selection experience, the rising cost of tuition, and questions to answer before investing in higher education [9:07] Beth's Guided Self-Assessment and why students should plan before they leap [20:11] Understanding the cost of higher education It's hard to believe that college ever cost $6,000 a year. Today you would be lucky to pay that per semester for tuition alone. With the average annual cost for the complete college experience (tuition, books, room, and board) coming in around $35,000, you want to know that you and your student will get the most out of that investment before you sign on the dotted line. Parents will want to do everything they can to help their students not only get into college, but leave that place with the training and skills needed to have a successful career. One way to do that is through students taking AP classes in high school. These classes of increased difficulty are taught by high school teachers to prepare students for a three-hour test administered at the end of the year. Students can receive college credit for the subject area depending on their score out of five and the preferences of the institution they are enrolled at. Another option to prepare students for college is dual enrollment. This is where students take actual college classes for credit during high school hours at a significantly reduced rate. Setting students up for success While AP classes and dual enrollment can help prepare students for the college academic environment, knowing why they want to be there in the first place is the key to making a solid academic investment. It's easy to walk onto a gorgeous college campus and fall in love with an $80,000-per-year school, but unless your student can financially justify the price tag, a less expensive option is probably a better investment. The idea that some schools are better simply because they cost more is nothing but clever marketing. The best school is the one that sets your student up for success without crippling debt. It's so important for college-bound students to know who they are and what kinds of careers could be a great fit. College is way too expensive for them to just show up and figure it out. That's why Beth started At The Core. Her guided self-assessment allows students to dive deep into their strengths, struggles, interests, preferences, values, and lifestyle goals through a series of five one-hour interviews. Then Beth and her team compile that information into a report, giving students a snapshot of who they are and potential careers tied to their natural inclinations. Walking into college with solid career goals and objectives for their educational experience helps students get the most out of their educational investment. At The Core, pt 12 - Go The Extra Mile What is the first thing you think when you hear “go the extra mile?” “We go out of our way in every situation and circumstance to show people the love and mercy of Jesus and everything that we do is because God went out his way to show us His love through Jesus.” Luke 10:25-28 25 And behold, a lawyer (a scribe that would have been an expert in the Old Testament Laws) stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” Your relationship with God will reveal what it looks like to live it out from moment to moment. Luke 10:29-37 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii (two days wages) and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.” Why do I go the extra mile? What is your motivation for doing/giving your best?
Is it so you can get praise or is it the outpouring of your relationship with Jesus? What gets my extra mile? Are I giving my best in everything I do or is good enough good enough? Who gets my extra mile? Am I going out of my way to show everyone the love of Jesus or just people I deem worthy?

At The Core pt 11 - Never Too Early Never Too Late -No matter how old or young you are you'll always have a reason to feel insecure. You'll feel too young until you'll feel too old, but you'll never feel just right. -“Age doesn't matter unless you are a cheese” -Our lives aren't determined by how many minutes we've lived but by our response to the moments that God has shown up in our lives. -Never Too Early, Never Too Late -Gen 12:1-3 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country[b] and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” -Abraham was called to make a difference in the world around him. -He didn't let his minutes get in the way of his response in the moment. -Gen 12:7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” -Gen 18:1-2 “And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth.” -Minutes can be measured by clock but moments are measured by their significance. -Gen 18:9-15 “They said to him, “where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “She is in the tent.” The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old? Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” But Sarah denied it saying “I did not laugh” for she was afraid, He said, “No, but you did laugh?” God works best in impossible situations. Gen 21:1 “The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had promised. 1 Tim 4:12 (NIV) “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” -Don't let the number of minutes you've lived, whether a lot or a little keep you from saying yes to God in the moment. -Don't Waste your Life. “But whatever you do, find the God-centered, Christ-exalting, Bible-saturated passion of your life, and find your way to say it and live for it and die for it. And you will make a difference that lasts. You will not waste your life.” — John Piper — -Don't Wait to do what God's calling you to do. -Don't Wish you were someone else. -“Am I the right guy? I don't know, but I'm the guy being asked, and the last thing I want to do is miss an opportunity or make God mad, so I just keeping saying yes. Maybe God is doing some inexplicable things in your life. Each of us gets to decide every time whether to lean in or step back - to say yes, ignore it, or tell God why He has the wrong person.” — Bob Goff— -Do what God is asking you to do. -“God is never late and rarely early. He is always exactly right on time – His time.” — Dillon Burroughs

How many of you have ever failed to apply yourself to something, whether it was school, a job, a friendship, or even a marriage? “Am I a follower of Jesus, or am I a fan?” James 1:22-25 But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works—this person will be blessed in what he does. 22 But be doers (Followers) of the word and not hearers (Fans) only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer (Fan) of the word and not a doer (Follower), he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. Looking into the mirror doesn't change you it only shows you what you need to change. Because without transformation it's just information. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer (Fan) but one who does good works (Follower)—this person will be blessed in what he does. When we are doers of the word we are telling the world that we are valued and loved by Jesus and that we find our worth in loving and serving Him. We are not saved by our good deeds but it does have a direct impact on the fruit of our lives. The goal is to be a doer and not to just a hearer 1. Honest Evaluation 2. The 1 Thing Principle We all need to ask ourselves the question, am I a follower or a fan?

Matthew 5:40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. James 5:2 Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. “It all goes back in the box.” Your box. James 5:3 Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. Matthew 6:19-21 “Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” The treasures we pursue determine where our heart goes. James 5:4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. Generous with God's Resources We want people who go above and beyond to give sacrificially to the work of God in our communities. James 5:5 You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. Matthew 16:26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? James 5:6 You have condemned and murdred the righteous person. He does not resist you. Get Good at Being Rich 1 Timothy 6:17-18 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share. “It is better to give than to receive”. - Jesus(from Acts 20:35) “My life is the best when I'm not the most important in it.” - Jeff Foxworthy Application: Lose your life. One of the big stressors is oftentimes we feel like something big is coming up and we don't have time to really adjust or pivot and be able to be kind to ourselves. That's where Alyson comes in - she takes your operations and makes them flow better and more efficiently. First, they come in and take a look at your business model. What SEO’s do you actually need? What services are you providing? Making sure that everything has a place, right, it's kind of like a puzzle that you need to put together first. The second thing that they do is they take a look at your assets. So your team members, the things that you've currently got in place, like your projects, your tools, those types of things and then the final thing they look at is the integration. What can we make automated? Where can we take out the big lengthy process and save you some money or some time? Then once all of that is wrapped up, they document your recipes for you.Alyson explains that ops and quarterly planning really do go hand in hand, they recommend that all of their clients do quarterly planning, meet monthly to kind of check the pace and then obviously track those things week over week. Just knowing with clarity where to move forward into the next step is a game-changer.Oftentimes, people will take on too many projects in a quarter without project planning, have no idea the bearing that it actually has on their day to day. You have to break down each project. Alyson talks about one of her favorite exercises which is personally writing out her perfect week. Saying, “Okay, leadership team, if I had my perfect week, what would this look like as it relates to my job description?” This exercise is for strategic planning and holding people accountable to projects. Alyson talks about her processes and how to present the workload to the leadership team not coinciding with the other meetings we have talked about but talking over key descriptions of their job description. There are four main buckets they like to attract, sales, metrics, delivery and services. Are you asking questions like, What’s next on the horizon? What do we need to systematize and just if you are struggling with where to start, reach out to Alyson at Operations Agency. These two have been perfecting the social science behind combining grassroots efforts with technology to engage their community and it is paying off. They are “feeding” parents with information, resources, and a connection to something they haven’t necessarily been exposed to, and this grassroots, personalized effort is helping to solve the problem of parents who are starved for knowledge as to how best prepare their students for life after high school. Have you ever been handed a tool but absolutely no instruction how to use it? If the Bible says that we are called to do great things but gives us no instruction on how to use that calling, then how are we supposed to live the life Jesus wants for us? In today’s message we’ll pick up some practical ways of learning to use the tools in our lives. But they won’t come easy. Ultimately, we have to own our growth and personally put the effort into bettering ourselves.Support the show (https://elementchurchlaurel.com/give)

As Pastor Ryan continues to dive into our core values as a church, we confront the truth about dealing with difficult people. It’s easy for us to ask: “What Would Jesus Do?” but it’s much harder to accomplish the same feats. Instead, we have to ask: “What Did Jesus Tell Us To Do?”Support the show (https://elementchurchlaurel.com/give)

Beth Probst, founder of At The Core, a company that was founded to serve students as they prepare to make the very important decisions that surround their transition from high school to their future, joins host Shane Haggerty in the very first episode of the Breaker Society Podcast. After a successful career in sales and marketing for several large technology companies, Beth is shaking up college and career preparation with her company that provides workshops, one-on-one consulting, information and resources, and guided self-assessments to help students figure out their paths before setting off not knowing what they truly want to explore. In this episode we discuss her own career pathway and how she inspires and works with parents and students to prepare for what’s ahead. We also talk about the disconnect our society has with this whole college versus career debate, how to help students discover their passions, and we have some fun in the lightning round where we find out the one thing Beth would “break” to build something better.   Visit breakersociety.com and follow us on Twitter @BreakerSociety

What does it mean to flourish as a human being?  Well, for many of us that might be a question not often asked, but for Aneel Chima it is his life's work to help us figure it out.  While Aneel might be just as happy driving a city bus, he's currently very content as the co-leader of the Stanford University WellnessEd Project, which he co-founded and developed.  In addition, Aneel co-founded At-The-Core, where he facilitates actualization and trans-formative change using emotional, social, and neurophysiological  drivers of optimal team and leadership performance. Above all these lofty goals and ambitions, Aneel is super-nice person, willing to sit patiently and teach what it means to thrive.  We don't guarantee that he would give every stranger he meets a personal walking tour of Stanford University, an hour and a half interview, followed by a falafal dinner, but he certainly made Pete feel welcome by demonstrating what the traits of human flourishing look like up close: compassion, kindness, and wisdom.
