IT'S SEASON FOUR, EVERYONE! This year we are doing quarterly themes - and I'm so excited to bring you the theme for the second quarter: Business Strategy. I feel like as we go into the second part of 2023, it's so important to be able to take a look at what you have done so far, and then look to the future as we prep for the rest of the year. Business Strategy is going to encompass social media strategy, hiring practices, internal business structure and more. Today's episode is with Aubree Malick, and we are discussing a highly debatable platform right now: TikTok. It's so important to stay up to speed on the trending platforms to decide if they're right for your company - so Aubree is teaching us why businesses are using (and thriving) with TikTok, what it looks like to batch create content, and her top tips on being successful as a business on the platform. Find Aubree HERE.
Are you a business owner, but you feel more like a gopher- going and doing all the little things? Does scaling seem impossible because you are drowning in to-dos? Maybe even finances are tight, but you just know that you cannot do any more in your business without help. I invited Aubree Malick- former Virtual Assistant turned business coach for freelancers- to come on the show- partly so that I could ask her all the dumb questions (and some not-so-dumb ones) that we ALL want to know the answers to. We chatted about the differences between a Virtual Assistant, an OBM, or just a freelancer. Where to find good help, how to start passing off tasks, and how to do it in a way that feels less scary and overwhelming than you probably think it does. Aubree Malick is a boy mom, former teacher, and host of the Freelancer to CEO podcast. Recognized by Yahoo Finance as a Top 10 VA Coach, she helps overworked and underpaid moms and (soon-to-be former) teachers experience the freedom and joy that comes from designing a freelancing business with the skills they already have. After taking her own leap of faith over three years ago and replacing her teaching income within two months, she became passionate about helping other women start and grow their own businesses from home. When she's not supporting her own freelance clients (still walking that walk!) or members of her programs, you can find her looking for her next DIY project, binging her fav reality TV shows, or snuggled up on the couch with her boys. TAKEAWAYS: + When Aubree's business really started to take off and she surpassed her teaching salary, she had to come to grapple with the pull to do more. She had set out to accomplish this goal, and she did, so why did she want more? After some soul searching she realized that by stepping into her definition of “more” she was paving the way for others to do the same. + Aubree contributes most of her success on Tik Tok to the platform's focus on authenticity. There are no “best practices” when it comes to Tik Tok and the platform is very streamlined, making the focus on creativity the main focus for most creators. + At first, Aubree committed to trying Tik Tok out for 30 days and then reevaluating, to see if it was worth her time. What she found is that she loved how supportive the platform is, and she hasn't looked back! In episode 322, Aubree Malick, host of the Freelancer to CEO podcast, teaches us how to monetize the blogging skills we've mastered by turning them into invaluable services we can offer other bloggers and businesses. Aubree helps people in conventional careers become freelancers, growing their own online businesses. She shares the tactics bloggers can use to identify their strengths and outsource this to other bloggers who might find the same tasks tedious or who've got too much on their plate. In this episode, she unpacks the most important steps to start a successful freelance career. -Find your ideal clients in online communities and in your local network. -Niche down with the type of service you offer or the type of client you serve. -Research other freelancers' pricing to find a good balance between NOT undervaluing or overpricing yourself. -Ask yourself: What price point is going to make me feel resentful? What is going to make me feel good? -Best way to build relationships with your audience is through authentic video. -Have a system in place to make the process smooth and keep your clients satisfied. We all know that social media acts as a key visibility platform player and a core part of your marketing activity - at the very least, you need somewhere to point listeners to at the end of your podcast guest slots. But finding authenticity in marketing can feel complex when it comes to social media. Thinking through each platform you can utilize, TikTok may not be top of your list even though it was one of the top three fastest-growing brands of 2020, alongside Zoom and Peacock. My guest today was one of the many people who experimented with TikTok that year, and she now uses it as her main marketing channel and visibility platform - alongside podcast guesting and hosting her own show. Aubree Malick is a mom, former teacher, and host of the Freelancer to CEO podcast. Through her podcast and programs, she helps overworked and underpaid moms and (soon-to-be-former) teachers experience the freedom that comes from designing a freelancing business with the skills they already have. After taking her own leap of faith over three years ago and replacing her teaching income within two months, she became passionate about helping other women start and grow their own businesses to 5K+ months from home As you'll hear, the key with social media and marketing isn't to simply do ALL THE THINGS (which would be a terrible idea). Rather, you need to show up where you can truly be yourself, provide value for your audience and find authenticity in marketing. Topics covered include: How Aubree was able to transition from teaching into a successful freelance career - and how her podcast helped her to see where her focus should be The channels that Aubree initially used to market her coaching programs, and how she found her home on TikTok Aubree's first 30 days on TikTok and her first video to go viral! The ways that Aubree uses TikTok in her business The podcast pitches that stand out for Aubree Full show notes and resources: https://www.thepodwizegroup.com/authenticity-in-marketing-visibility-platform
Let me ask you a question? Are you on TikTok? Maybe you are, and you watch all the funny videos, but are you using TikTok for your business? I know what you might be thinking, “Another platform to learn and more time creating content!” After listening to this episode, you might rethink TikTok, especially when our guest shares how she uses TikTok to help her create new content that she can use on other platforms. You know I'm a big fan of repurposing! Today, Aubree Malick joins the show to share how she leverages TikTok to build her audience, and I'll take her word for it because she grew her TikTok following to almost 300K in under a year, which I think is pretty impressive! Aubree is the host of the Freelance to CEO podcast and she's dedicated to moms who are eager to design a freelance business. In this episode you will learn: Why TikTok is a good place to grow an audience How to use the caption/comment sections to create evergreen content How to show up and have fun The power of repurposing your TikTok videos Connect with Aubree: Website: https://aubreemalick.com/ Podcast: https://aubreemalick.com/blog/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aubreemalick/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@aubreemalick hello@aubreemalick.com Before you go, I'd love to connect with you and give you some gifts to help you grow your online presence! I was super excited to chat with Aubree for this episode as her story felt so similar to mine, just in a different industry. We had our kids at the same time and decided to make the leap after our second, so I resonated with so many of the thoughts, doubts and challenges she brought up. Hear Aubree discuss how she transitioned from teaching to becoming a Virtual Assistant and is now coaching other virtual assistants. She explains how she tried a lot of different things, but nothing stuck, which seems to be a commonality amongst so many of my guests! We talk about how her support system allowed her to have flexibility and how she shifts her mindset from losing time with her kids to allowing her husband to foster his bond with them (TOTALLY STEALING THIS)! She tells me about the growth she has made in the last 2.5 years and how she has gained so much power from it! Aubree then tells me what a VA does and how she has learned from her lessons ((which you KNOW I am a huge fan of!)), what her schedule looks like now, and how it's shifted from her time as a teacher, and even the first few months of her new role. I know you will find lots of relatable moments and feelings in this episode and for those that are currently VAs or looking to become one, this is your episode!! Make sure to follow Aubree on Instagram, Facebook and check out their website -- which includes her own podcast! Full show notes here.
