As sustainability strategies mature, the pressure is increasing on how companies communicate progress, both within their value chains and to consumers. Many organisations are now asking the same questions: how do we talk credibly about targets, trade-offs and incomplete journeys, without overclaiming or oversimplifying? In response, Innovation Forum is launching the Sustainable Communication and Engagement Series. Across a set of focused events, we will explore how companies can build more honest, evidence-based narratives around sustainability, and how to engage different audiences. This first webinar in the series explores how B2B companies are working with suppliers, partners and customers to strengthen trust through transparent and authentic sustainability communication. We discuss how businesses are engaging stakeholders around goals, which strategies have worked (and which have not) when communicating across global value chains, and practical steps to keep messaging action-oriented and credible. Panellists include: Nikki Barber, head of corporate communications, ofi Hannah Rizo, director of sustainability communications, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Enda Buckley, head of sustainability, Carbery Group Sara Neame, sustainability communications lead, Givauda The session was moderated by Tanya Richard, chief operating officer and head of stakeholder engagement & sustainability communications, Innovation Forum The Sustainable Communication and Engagement Series will continue: Building credibility in sustainability storytelling: B2C brands and the consumer trust gap Thursday 22 January 9am EST / 2pm GMT / 3pm CET As consumers pay closer attention to brands' sustainability claims, the challenge is no longer solely what companies do, but how they explain it clearly and honestly. The second webinar in the series will focus on consumer-facing brands and retailers. We will explore how to talk about complex topics such as supply chains, product impact and targets in a way that makes sense to everyday consumers – without overclaiming or greenwashing. Discussion will cover what works (and what does not) in campaigns and product communication, approaches to avoiding greenwash and “greenhush” while staying ahead of regulation, and how to measure whether sustainability communication is building trust and influencing behaviour. Panellists include: Sarah Whittaker, head of sustainability communications, Primark Ozlem Senturk, senior partner, global sustainable transformation practice, Kantar The session will be moderated by Tanya Richard, chief operating officer and head of stakeholder engagement & sustainability communications, Innovation Forum with more panellists to be announced
Listen to the recording of an expert-led discussion with Unilever, Nestlé, Klim and Rabobank on how regenerative agriculture can drive ROI and reduce supply chain risk. As pressure mounts to decarbonise agrifood supply chains and meet Scope 3 targets, the case for regenerative agriculture is clearer than ever. Yet many corporate sustainability leaders still face a critical hurdle: how to make the internal investment case. This webinar looks beyond the carbon tunnel vision to unpack the true ROI of regenerative agriculture – not just as a sustainability strategy but as a long-term value driver that builds resilience, reduces supply chain risk, and meets growing stakeholder expectations. What we cover: How to position regen ag as a business advantage, not a cost burden Making the internal investment case to decision-makers Why regenerative agriculture is key to risk-proofing future UK and global supply chains Lessons from companies leading the way in climate-smart sourcing The panel includes: Erin Hermsen, sustainable business and program lead, Unilever Robert Gerlach, CEO and co-founder, Klim Emma Keller, head of sustainability UK and Ireland, Nestlé Lissy Smit, global head of sustainability at Rabobank Wholesale and Rural, Rabobank
Ann Morris Electronic Voice Phenomena: The unwitting manifestation of anomalous sounds on to audio recording equipment. In this episode I am talking to the wonderful Ann Morris who has over a number of years and many hours of sitting late at night recording in prisons, old forts, battlefields and places of trauma. She studies and records EVP – Electronic Voice Phenomena: The unwitting manifestation of anomalous sounds on to audio recording equipment. These voices appear on the recording on playback. These are then meticulously documented and researched. This just happens to be close to Halloween but I have been trying to get Ann on the program for a couple of years so I am really pleased that she could finally make it. This is a brilliant episode Here are Ann's notes to her work. Ok, here goes… I investigate EVP – Electronic Voice Phenomena: The unwitting manifestation of anomalous sounds on to audio recording equipment. I believe that EVP is a link to the disembodied consciousness. • At the time of recording absolutely nothing is heard – it is only upon playback that these sounds (often voices) become apparent. The sounds are of frequencies undetectable by the human ear ‘in the moment'. • These sounds/voices are not echoes. They are not from what we would deem to be ‘the past' – they are very much in the here and now, and right with us. Many of my captures are of an intelligent nature, often using my name, calling out, interacting. Of course I am unaware of this until later, but because I'm a frequent visitor, I can always pop back to the same place and try to encourage interaction at another time. I have several communicators who I recognise – Mr Romeo, as I call him, who's always uttering lovely things. He's not always in the same place, and I've recorded him all over the prison. Then there's ‘Sam' – on 3 separate occasions he was named, and then on my asking, a gent' answered my questions within mere seconds of my speaking. That's 3 different dates, the same man replying, in the same cell. I have called him Frank – I don't know why! • I record alone to minimise audio pollution on location – a double edge sword, because the critics will say that I am at liberty to fake my recordings. I give my absolute 100% guarantee that I never have, and never will, fake anything. All of my work is genuine. • I have been interested in EVP since around 2009 when I first heard of it, and since 2010, actively researching and investigating. • Anyone can do this, and anywhere. You do not have to be in a ‘haunted' environment. At this point, I'd just like to clarify something that bugs me a little. The stereotypical acceptance of what ‘haunted' means. Personally, the word ‘haunted' to me, means a place that consistently produces anomalous phenomena. Weird stuff. Paranormal activity. And, whilst I'm at it, another word that tends to get bandied around as a ‘one size fits all' misnomer, is ‘paranormal', simply meaning something that physics cannot explain. Does this mean that things can't exist beyond the boundaries of science? No! And EVP is just one such example – because I assure you, that it is very real indeed. This also goes for all other forms of anomalous phenomena too, which although may appear different, is I believe, intimately and ultimately connected. (I have had many other experiences that give credence to this!).

Ed Pitcher joins me to announce that he and Ricardo Velarde have given me permission to read and publish "The Flying of Falcons" as part of the Fat Bird, Ugly Dog Podcast. We begin the episode discussing Ed's use of mantras to guide the way he develops and flies his birds. We then focus of two mantras that Ed used in the book, and now regrets to some degree - the first is “being touched by the Angel of Death”, a metaphor he used in the chapter about a female prairie falcon called “Amos". The second is "a sharp hawk is a smart hawk", which Ed used in his chapter on "weight Management". We conclude the episode talking about two people with whom Ed trained and flew falcons - Terry Heath and Steve Sanders - and we talk about the way the three friends influenced one another. Thanks for listening, I hope you enjoy this prelude to the reading of "The Flying of Falcons".

Following the release of the JFK files, we uncover lost audio recordings of President John F. Kennedy, where he passionately speaks out against the dangers of censorship and the global dark forces threatening the freedom of the American people. Through his stirring words, JFK warns of the insidious powers that seek to suppress truth and manipulate public discourse, revealing his deep concerns about the erosion of democratic values. This rare, audio offers a glimpse into the mind of a leader who understood the critical importance of free speech and the fight for liberty in the face of powerful adversaries. JFK's quest to expose the globalist agenda may just have gotten him killed as more evidence points to the CIA as the culprit. Episode 151 Chapter 12, The History of Audio Recording Technology. Works Recommended from my book, Electronic and Experimental Music Welcome to the Archive of Electronic Music. This is Thom Holmes. This podcast is produced as a companion to my book, Electronic and Experimental Music, published by Routledge. Each of these episodes corresponds to a chapter in the text and an associated list of recommended works, also called Listen in the text. They provide listening examples of vintage electronic works featured in the text. The works themselves can be enjoyed without the book and I hope that they stand as a chronological survey of important works in the history of electronic music. Be sure to tune-in to other episodes of the podcast where we explore a wide range of electronic music in many styles and genres, all drawn from my archive of vintage recordings. There is a complete playlist for this episode on the website for the podcast. Playlist: THE HISTORY OF AUDIO RECORDING TECHNOLOGY Time Track Time Start Introduction –Thom Holmes 01:30 00:00 1. Leon Scott “Au Clair de la Lune” (1860). Phonautograph. One of about 50 recordings made around 1860 by Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville's on his invention, the Phonautograph that were digitally restored in 2008 by the First Sounds collaborative. These were created using the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's virtual stylus technology, which sought to track the wavy lines scratched on soot-covered paper as though they were standard record grooves. 00:20 01:38 2. Alice J. Shaw, an improvised whistling performance (1888) from an Edison Records cylinder recording. 02:13 01:58 3. George J. Gaskin, “Drill Ye Terriers Drill” (1896) from an E. Berliner's Gramophone shellac disc. 01:24 04:10 4. Sousa's Band, “Happy Days In Dixie” (1897) from an E. Berliner's Gramophone shellac disc. 01:43 05:36 5. Emperor Franz Joseph, short message recorded on Valdemar Poulsen's Telegraphone (1900). Early magnetic wire recording. Recording made without microphone. 00:09 07:18 6. Sousa's Band, “The Mosquito Parade” (1904) from Columbia Records shellac disc. Note the higher fidelity of the instruments compared to earlier recordings on disc, recorded without electrical microphones but optimizing the use of acoustic horns for sound intake. 02:54 07:28 7. Noble Sissle (vocals) and Eubie Blake (piano), medley of popular songs (1923). Recording using onto an early sound film using the Phonofilm process invented by Lee de Forest. 06:51 10:22 8. Paul Whiteman And His Concert Orchestra, “Rhapsody In Blue” (1924) from an RCA Victor shellac disc. This is an acoustically recorded version of this piece, without the benefit of vacuum tube amplification or electrical microphones. Compare to the 1927 version (next), also by Whiteman, produced using electrical recording. 09:06 17:12 9. Paul Whiteman And His Concert Orchestra, “Rhapsody In Blue” (1927) from RCA Victor, His Master's Voice shellac disc. An electrical recording using vacuum tube amplification and electrical microphones. 08:59 26:30 10. Paul Hindemith, “Trickaufnahme” (excerpt) (1930), an experiment in turntablism using turntable discs to both record, mix, and playback the result. 00:58 35:28 11. BBC, “Pieces of Tape” excerpt of a program (1933) produced by editing together segments recorded previously using the Blattnerphonesteel tape recorded that used a magnetic process. This was the first audio recording assembled using tape editing. A dozen years prior to the available of magnetic tape, edits made to steel tape had to be made by spot welding. 05:29 36:28 12. Sidney Bechet, “Blues of Bechet” (1941) from an RCA Victor shellac disc. An early example of overdubbing/multitracking. Bechet played every instrument on this track, including the piano, clarinet and soprano saxophone. Each instrument was recorded onto a new master disc and mixed on another disc to create the final recording. 01:57 41:56 Additional opening, closing, and other incidental music by Thom Holmes. This show has been flagged as Clean by the host. TuxJam co-host Kevie follows up on HPR4287 with a bit of a tweak to the Crontab, but still using the ffmpeg command to record. In the previous episode, the example stream url that was given proved to be unpopular with ffmpeg due to the characters that it contained. A quick work around for this was to put it in a url shortener, for this example I'm using TinyURL . Another issue arose when the stream recorded without first removing the audio file, I could see this being an issue when you want to record a show when you will be away over multiple weeks. To overcome this we simply edit the Crontab file (command crontab -e ) and add the following to the end of the file, before the extension: $(date +"%Y_%m_%d") So the template chances from: * * * * * ffmpeg -i https://streamurl -t HH:MM:SS /path/filename.ogg to * * * * * ffmpeg -i https://streamurl -t HH:MM:SS /path/filename$(date +"%Y_%m_%d").ogg I forgot to say in the show that you need to add before % in Cron or it will not behave as expected. The example of recording Dan Lynch's Pic and Mix show on Arrow Radio every Thursday at 7pm would now be: 00 19 * * 4 ffmpeg -i https://tinyurl.com/msm6ya6f -t 02:00:00 ~/Recordings/DanLynchPickMix$(date +"%Y_%m_%d").ogg Provide feedback on this episode.

This show has been flagged as Clean by the host. TuxJam co-host Kevie does a follow up show to episode 4249 with a look at scheduling a stream recording using crontab and the ffmpeg command. The two things that we will need to set this up are the audio stream url and the time of the show. To set this up we need to go setup a new Cron task: crontab -e and navigate to the bottom of the file. The first thing that it will expect you to enter is the timing for this task, this will be written as * * * * * with the information needed being converted into an appropriate number: minute hour day of month month day of week (0-59) (0-23) (1-31) (1-12) (0-7) * * * * * Then we need to enter ffmpeg -i followed by the stream URL. It is important that we include the duration of the recording, so that this doesn't output a huge file. To set the time enter -t HH:MM:SS making sure to replace the HH(hours) MM(minutes) and SS(seconds) with numbers. Almost done. The last thing we need to do is to enter the location for the file to go along with the name /path/filename.ogg. So in short form the command is * * * * * ffmpeg -i https://streamurl -t HH:MM:SS /path/filename.ogg. The example used in the show for Dan Lynch's Mid Week Pick and Mix: 00 19 * * 4 ffmpeg -i https://arrowestream.radioca.st/;?ver=737183.mp3 -t 02:00:00 ~/Recordings/DanLynchPickMix.oggProvide feedback on this episode.

The rapidly escalating problem of plastic pollution poses a significant global challenge, adversely affecting environmental, social economic and health aspects of sustainable development. According to WWF, if current trends continue unchecked and no immediate measures are taken, global plastic waste could almost triple, reaching approximately 1.2 billion tonnes by 2060. After intense negotiations at INC-5 in Busan, a plastics treaty remains elusive, leaving many feeling disappointed and disheartened. Countries have been unable to finalise a crucial agreement on addressing plastic pollution, after over two years of discussions. As we look ahead to INC5.2, what's the solution to reaching an agreement? What can the industry do in the meantime to ensure progress on these important matters? Our expert speakers discussed these questions, the outcome of INC-5 and more. The chapter was about life in a small village in the 1930's. In addition to the text I had a couple of black and white photo prints from those days. I said black and white. But honestly, an eighty year old black and white print is not only black and white. Because of aging, type of paper and development method, the black and white print has colours. Should the photos in the book chapter be of best black and white photo quality, or should they reflect the prints as they are at the time of the book release? There is no right or wrong answer into that question. But it relates to the topic, why digitize? I have found the web site "Preserving history. How to Digitally Archive and Share Historical Photographs, Documents, and Audio Recordings". The main focus is photographs, but as the title states it is also about documents and audio. The web site is written and organized as a book and is a very comprehensive and useful resource. It is a few years old but is still to a large extent accurate and relevant. The exact details, which equipment, formats, settings and so on can be discussed. And as technology has evolved, what the book describes as best has to some extent changed so the best practise can now in some cases be seen as good practise. The book has a chapter titled "Historical Archive Versus Personal Photograph Collection". The historical archive is about to preserve the object in every detail, e.g. colours, scratches, borders and dimensions. It is applicable for true archives, like museums and other public archives. The other reason to digitize is of personal and family reasons. In this scope, the focus is to have good photos. This approach gives better flexibility in method, equipment and settings, and in general the work will probably be less time consuming. So the take away from this episode is that I recommend you to give the purpose of why you digitize photos a thought before you start a big digitizing project. And that you need to balance any desire to make the best possible archival copy with the best possible equipment and all time in the world with what is realistic for you, and what is good enough. And at the other end, the happiness to have and share a digital photo copy of any quality is better than none at all, but considering a bit more of work and attention may improve the quality significantly. Finally, I also want to give a few remarks to my own episode number 4244. I talked about placing the negative or positive in direct contact to glass under or above it. Be observant, there is a risk this will create Newton rings which can affect the result in a not acceptable way. The problem that the object is not totally flat in a flat bed scanner should in most cases not be a problem because the scanners are normally designed to manage a bit of focus depth. Remarks on my repro setup: My digital camera is mounted on a repro stand. The stand is similar to the stand used in an analog darkroom. The "duplication direction" is opposite to the analog darkroom: The camera is mounted on the stand, while the object to be duplicated is placed on the base plate. I have a light table on the base plate when a negative or positive is duplicated. Mounted on the camera, depending on lens, may an extension tube be needed to achieve the macro distance to duplicate a small object. References: Preserving history. A confidential source sent me an audio recording of ICMA West Coast Regional Director Pat Martel discussing the American Association of Municipal Executives. This discussion took place two weeks ago at the Oregon City/Count Management Association conference.. In this audio clip, Martel states that the ICMA is very much aware of the AAME, that it supports the AAME mission, and that it is perfectly acceptable for ICMA members to join AAME and other organizations. In this episode, I talk about how many ICMA members who are supportive of my efforts have expressed an unwillingness to join the AAME. They state they fear retaliation. And I urge the ICMA executive board to make a public statement attesting to the fact that members will not be targeted if they do join the AAME. WOW - Case closed! This tape is quick and stunner. A previously unheard tape proves Donald Trump had no idea what Michael Cohen was up to when he allegedly okayed a payment to stormy Daniels. In fact, judging by this tape and Hope Hicks, his testimony, along with David Peck's testimony, it appears as though the entire payment was facilitated by Michael Cohen without the knowledge of Donald Trump. If true, then why did the prosecutor Alvin Bragg bring the case? Politics! And this is ladies and gentlemen - precisely why Donald Trump is moving higher and higher in the polls. I have the latest. Plus, Roaring Kitty is BACK in the house! I'll explain. And, prices are soaring YET AGAIN (sorry for that but you need to understand what's at stake!) Meanwhile, Minnesota has a brand new flag. It's lovely. But, why did they need a new one that bares such resemblance to another country's flag? See the homage to Somalia in the newly depicted flag. It's… a little odd. This week: Trump's 2016 election interference/hush money trial continues. There have already been two contempt rulings; a third one is likely and may result in jail time. We've heard testimony from Gary Farro, the banker who helped Michael Cohen open the accounts the $130k moved through; lawyer who negotiated the payments to Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels, Keith Davidson; audio and video specialist Douglas Daus; paralegal in the Manhattan District Attorney's office who has been monitoring Trump's social media, Georgia Longstreet; former Trump aide, Hope Hicks; and Trump Org accountant Jeff McConney. So What Else“We're on a mission to ensure no child in our Maryland and Washington DC community experiences hunger and has access to meaningful opportunities to learn and grow outside of the school day.”https://www.sowhatelse.org/Allison Gillhttps://post.news/@/MuellerSheWrotehttps://twitter.com/MuellerSheWrotePete Strzokhttps://twitter.com/petestrzokThe Podcasthttps://twitter.com/aisle45podWant to support this podcast and get it ad-free and early?Go to: https://www.patreon.com/aisle45podTell us about yourself and what you like about the show - http://survey.podtrac.com/start-survey.aspx?pubid=BffJOlI7qQcF&ver=short Allison Gillhttps://post.news/@/MuellerSheWrotehttps://twitter.com/MuellerSheWrotePete Strzokhttps://twitter.com/petestrzokThe Podcasthttps://twitter.com/aisle45podWant to support this podcast and get it ad-free and early?Go to: https://www.patreon.com/aisle45podTell us about yourself and what you like about the show - http://survey.podtrac.com/start-survey.aspx?pubid=BffJOlI7qQcF&ver=short
