Daily Soap Opera Spoilers by Soap Dirt (GH, Y&R, B&B, and DOOL)
Click to Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Youtube-Subscribe-SoapDirt Young and the Restless finds Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) has been painted as a villain by the writers despite behaving more ethically than many other CEOs in Genoa City. The lawsuit pursued by Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) and Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) against Chancellor Winters has been a major point of contention. Despite the criticism, Lily stands firm in her belief that she owns Omega Spear, a game she financed and developed, and that Daniel betrayed her on the CBS soap opera. The intellectual property law is on her side as development deals don't usually allow creators to retain ownership. Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), and Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) have all criticized Lily for her actions, despite their own questionable pasts. The episode also displays the hypocrisy in the treatment of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle), who have been involved in much more unethical business practices. The narrative around Lily is creating a double standard, and fans are eager to hear Jill Abbott's (Jess Walton) perspective on the ongoing conflict on YR. Despite the criticism, Lily is determined to protect Chancellor Winters and its assets from ex-employees seeking unjust compensation. I have notoriously bad handwriting, and being left handed, I often smear ink on the page. In order to write correctly, I have to slow down. Success works the same way. In a world of "do it now, do it fast," we must focus on doing it correctly and by doing so, get results faster.
An editor at Vanity Fair and a contributor to the New Yorker, among others, Mike Sacks is the author of ten books. Two of those books are collections of in-depth interviews with profoundly influential comedy writers from the legendary to the less known but no less important. His other books take a little more explaining. Two of them are being re-published this week: “Stinker Lets Loose” is a deliberately badly written novelization of a 1970's trucker movie that never actually existed. “Randy!” Is an “unpublished memoir” Sacks “found” at a yard sale written by an average Maryland dirtbag who's come into some money. Sacks also co-wrote “Welcome to Woodmont College,” a fake catalogue from a really expensive (and really shit) boutique college, out in hardback last month. Today we discuss his approach to comedy — both writing it himself and what he's learned from interviewing some of the best to ever do it. This week we unironically appoint ourselves as judge Judy and executioner when it comes to deciding what constitutes "good" and "bad" writing. We wade, like treaclenauts through the metaphorical linguistic molasses, to address profligate supererogatory expatiated prose as well as the down right boring and clunky – in a quest to get to the bottom of the question; “So, what exactly makes bad writing bad?”

This week we finally return to our review of American Marxism by Mark Levin, a man we can only assume is still angry he was never given a pony to kill. In this second half of chapter three we learn mostly how staggeringly and completely lazy Levin was in writing this book. In all absolute honesty, and with complete disclosure that I do not have the time to sit and count words, Levin appears to have filled this chapter (and probably the book) with more words that come from block quotes written by the people he hates than his own original writing. Sincerely, this book is a snarky quote-tweet of a 2000 word deeply researched and detailed article, in other words, the same thing as Levin's Radio and TV shows. Because as we all know, when you don't have the facts, scream that your enemies are commies. We also saw Levin engage in some of the most blatant bullshitting of the book thus far (while we're sure there is plenty more to come) in deliberately attempting to deceive his audience into believing that somewhat hacky scholarly work about “Millenialists” actually applies to “Millenials.” I can assure you the two terms have almost nothing to do with one another. Welcome back everyone, Today I discuss basic fundamentals of good and bad writing (especially philosophical writing). The most useful tip I can give is to write succinctly and with a purpose. Make it so that you need to express as much thought with as little words as possible. In addition to advice you should implement while writing, I also give advice on what you should NOT do while writing. Enjoy! Follow me on IG with any questions, comments or concerns. Welcome back to The Writing Apothecary and our last lesson on dialogue. I'd like to think that we all agree on how good dialogue is and what its purpose can be. You can use dialogue to make a story more lifelike and really it's the part that allows your characters to speak for themselves. In real life, you can't really get to know someone unless you talk to them and it's the same principle for fiction. Your readers will decide if they like your character just by what they say and then they will make the assumption of whether or not they want to actually spend time with them. The main points in today's lesson:We all speak differentlyCharacter's dialogue needs to be unique so they can stand on their own.Look at ways to give your characters different distinctions when it comes to their speech.Look at the way subtext works for your characters too.We are great at talking but we always have trouble communicating and why should our novels be any different? Capitalising on miscommunication is a huge strength in fiction because it makes it more true to life. When character seem like a puppet and that they're just things and creations of us writers, and they are, but to the reader, they need to be lifelike.Bad dialogue also can expose your writerly voice into the piece, when a reader can see the mechanisms behind the writing and the entire illusion of a story is lost. You can't use words that are out of character for your own character. Use profanity and swear words sparingly as they will jolt the reader out of the story.Whew and that's it, dialogue is done. Tell me what you think about dialogue, I'd love to know what you classify as good and bad dialogue.Tell me what did you take away from this week's lesson?I'd love to know. Also, I would really appreciate it if you took the time to rate and review the podcast it helps people find our community and gets the podcast out into the world a little more.If you're looking for a cheerleader for your writing, then head on over to https://dreamingfullyawake.com/work-with-me/ and let's have a chat about how we can work together to get your writing on track.

This week in the Cold, we're talking about what a bad writing day is really like. We've all had them. Days when none of our usual tricks work. We can't go for a walk to reboot - the weather is crap, no amount of research or internet surfing is delivering that spark of inspiration, the words trip out onto the page like bad dancers. But there's a method to the madness, and there are ways we can turn these terribly, awful, no good, very bad days into something we can use. There are many writing advice columns that won't help you write good—that will actually encourage you to write bad, or at best mediocre. The post Bad Writing Advice by Matt Keeley appeared first on Kittysneezes.

FREE GUIDE LINK: https://songwritertheory.com/freeguide/Website: https://songwritertheory.com/Follow Me on Twitter: @josephNVadala Episode Writeup:Yes, be ok with writing badly. I know we're hard-wired to see failure as a bad thing. I know school teaches us we have one shot to get it right. But real life isn't like that. Real life is fail until we get it right. We need to practice. We need to hone our skills. We need to master our craft. The only way to do that? Write. Write on the days you feel like it and write on the days you don't. Don't spend 10 minutes staring at a blank page to come up with the perfect line - just write. Embrace the cringe-worthy things you write. Embrace the imperfections. There are 3 main reasons why.Bad Writing is Still Good ExerciseLet's say you work out 1 hour every other day. Today is a day you are supposed to work out, but you feel tired and only have 30 minutes to do it. Should you work out anyway? Of course. Those biceps won't build themselves while you eat a cheeseburger. Obviously a 30 minute workout is still better than a 0 minute workout. Even if you don't work out as hard due to being tired, something is still better than nothing. Exercising our creativity is the same. Some days will be off days and some days you won't have as much time to write as you'd like. But it's important to do it anyway. Even if your writing was entirely garbage that day, it still isn't wasted. Because you exercised your creativity. You honed your talents. Just like working out with fewer reps will still help your biceps be gym-worthy, deciding to write on an off day will still help you become a better writer.Every Bad Writing is One More Bad Writing Over WithIf you haven't lived under a rock your whole life, you've probably heard the Thomas Edison quote “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” Every time you write garbage, you've just worked through some lyrics or music that won't work. If you're afraid to write garbage, you'll never be able to put the bad writing behind you. Just dive in. Write. Don't judge every line as you write it, just allow yourself the freedom to write. I'm not a huge fan of “safe spaces” and the like but, in this one instance, give your writing a safe space to be judgement free.Bad Writing can be Reworked Into Good Writing LaterHere is my favorite. Just because your first draft is junk or your third draft makes Rebecca Black seem like the Picasso of songwriting doesn't mean it can't turn into gold. Even a terrible lyric or musical theme can inspire greatness later. Maybe your concept is great, but the actual lyrics just aren't working. Maybe your concept isn't great, but it can inspire a much better concept later. No matter what, keep all your writing. Yes, all of it. Go back to it sometimes and see if there were hidden gems you didn't notice before. Or just allow yourself to be inspired by the thoughts or lyrics of your past-self. Most of the time, your first draft and final draft isn't going to be the same, so don't spend so much time trying to make sure everything you write is perfect. It can and should be tweaked and edited over time. It's ok if the first draft is junk. Most first drafts of anything are.
